Glyph of Hun'afin, Gift of Lolth

Qu'ellar Hun'afin is made from the stalagmites and stalactites of the great Undergaia, overlooking Ulorbbath from the plateau of L'Orbben Har'ol. A great spider is carved into the surface of the foremost pillars, and through the grooves runs the purple flames of faerie fire, giving the impression that a massive neon arachnid is eternally defending the estate.

The central portion of the house is a massive stalactite, the point of which hangs 50 feet above the ground. In there reside the Hun'afin nobles and their servants. Two smaller stalactites flank the main one, and four sentinel stalagmites rear up in square formation around this, making seven major towers in all. A series of catwalks, all containing numerous concealed traps, connect the seven towers and allow those unable to levitate (the slaves and commoners) to move between structures to perform their duties. Commoner mages, soldiers, craftsmen, slaves and livestock dwell in these or in numerous smaller buildings huddled around the roots of the stalagmites.

Walls and defenses exist around the estate, courtesy of founder Matron Kikato. Many of the defenses cannot be seen and their very nature is a house secret. Wards are in place around the house to prevent scrying, teleportation, and planar travel into the house, especially from the Plane of Shadow.

Of the soldiery, there are 125 trained Drow warriors and 125 hobgoblins, orcs, goblins and other assorted slave races, along with approxamately 100 assassins and magi.
There are areas for lizard breeding, fish farming, weaving, carving and such. A smithy provides enchanted armor and weapons. Hidden rivers and springs provide fresh water. As with most noble houses, Hun'afin is virtually self-sufficient.

Background

Long ago, a renegade Drow appeared in the city. She wandered around for years before anyone bothered to take her in. The minor house Hun'Duis, Sisterhood of the Whip, adopted her as they needed another noble female. The renegade was known as "Zilv'Driira," also known as the Forgotten Mother. At the first opportunity, she struck the Hun'Duis matron, took over the house and renamed it Hun'afin: the name of her own family.

Hun'Afin ascended slowly over the years, eventually reaching the ranks of the royal top eight. Shortly after it reached Fourth Rank, Matron Kikato adopted the assassin Veldrin, who at the time was House Assassin for the then Third House Qu'ellar Gaundroth, as Captain of the Guard as well as the commoner mage Jys'yl as the First Daughter of the House. Kikato disappeared not long afterward and left instructions that Jys'yl was the new Matron.

One of Jys'yl's first acts as Matron was to order a strike against both the Second and Third Houses, which was facilitated by Veldrin's status as a double agent and the infiltration of Gaundroth's Shadow Guard by Hun'afin agents. Both strikes were total successes and the Sisterhood of the Web ascended to the penultimate position in the ruling council.

Recently, though, with the passing of Jys'yl the House has undergone a radical change in leadership. Veldrin, now Weaponsmaster, managed to cover up the Matron's demise long enough to covertly establish himself as the new ruler and controls the day to day operations from the shadows, while publicly using his influence and a fair bit of intimidation to set up a newly adopted priestess as the new Matron, although she rules in name only, and primarily serves as figurehead and ambassador to other noble Houses as well as leading religious ceremonies for Qu'ellar Hun'afin.
