As they progressed through the dark tunnel things became more menacing than they were before. Soft whispers could be heard along with muffled laughter in the shadows all around them. The ball that Era held seemed to be dimming a bit, although it was most likely just a trick of their minds, and the shadows around them were moving, or at least appeared to be. For the time being, they just tried to ignore it, all of them writing it off as nothing to be concerned with, although they all could feel the fear that was beginning to stir within them.

The sparks in the Light Ball were kept heightened by Era's excess static from her fur, and with her heightened sense of nervousness there were more sparks than usual to flow into the ball, causing it to light their surroundings more brightly. The swimming shadows around the edges of the ring seemed to move faster the more light there was, and the whispers grew louder, accompanied by rather frightening giggles that were heard every now and then. ”I'm not the only one hearing this, right?” Riley said softly his ears pressed back slightly from fear.

”No, you're not,” Era said, glancing around. ”Something's weird here...” The sounds were heightening, seeming intolerably loud and yet deathly quiet at the same time, and then all at once they stopped, at the moment the light touched something's form that lay on the ground, unmoving. When they came closer, their light revealed a sickly green Gloom breathing shallowly, looking rather beat up. Era leaned down and shook the Gloom tentatively, ”Hey, are you all right?” she asked with concern.

The creature's breathing grew harsher as it turned to look at her, sounding deathly ill as it spoke. ”Alright...” it panted, ”Am I...alright?” The three looked at one another with concern, something was clearly wrong with this Gloom, although what it was, they couldn't be sure. The Gloom began to laugh, a horrendous rasping sound that grated against their ears and caused them to wince. ”What a question to be asked...by my attackers!” There was hardly time for to register shock before a burst of Acid was fired at them, and they were forced to scatter, the Acid grazing over Riley's ear. The Gloom was on her feet now, an expression of nothing less than insanity on her face. ”I'll show you!” she rasped, ”You can't kill me that easily!”

”We are not your attackers!” Ethfael said, ducking as another Acid was fired at him when he spoke, ”We want to help you!”

”Lies!” the Gloom hissed. ”You didn't let yourselves be seen so that you could trick me again! I know your kind!” A light orange power came off of the Gloom's flower, a Stun Spore came out into the air causing all three of them to gasp, holding their breath so as to not breathe in the dangerous spores. The diplomatic approach was clearly not working, leaving them no choice but to attack.

Riley dove in, hitting the Gloom with a Quick Attack and jumping back out of the surrounding spores to take a breath before repeating the process, this time with Tackle. Ethfael summoned an Icy Wind to his aid, attacking from afar to keep away from the paralyzing spores, the wind also helping to clear away the Stun Spore. Era jumped in a bit too soon however, hitting the Gloom with a Swift Attack and gasping with surprise as she froze mid-attack, paralyzed as the Gloom hit her with yet another Stun Spore. ”Fools! You take me lightly!” she cried, reaching out to touch Era and using Mega Drain on her, cackling in the same raspy laugh.

”Era! Watch out!” Riley said, pushing her out of the Gloom's touch and taking the last of the energy draining attack. The Pichu fell stiffly to the floor, unable to stop her fall, and the Light Ball which she had been holding fell to the ground beside her. Ethfael went in front of her, using Extremespeed to beat the Gloom to her attack, and getting a face full of Acid in doing so. The attack burned him, and he felt the poison seep into his skin, shivering as it made him wince in pain. He fell back, beginning to convulse slightly as shudders wracked his figure.

Riley continued a barrage of Tackle attacks, weaving in and darting back out, infuriating the Gloom while keeping its attention off of his two companions. ”Come here child!” the Gloom cried, hurling a Sleep Powder out of its flower toward him. Riley held his breath, determined not to fall asleep again when Era and Ethfael needed him. A Thundershock headed the Gloom's way shortly after, Era picking herself up onto all fours and ducking down to avoid a returning Acid that bubbled rather evilly on the ground in behind her. ”You'll pay for that,” the Gloom hissed beginning to head towards Era once more. Riley hit her with a Quick Attack, throwing her off balance, and causing her to tip over and fall down on her side.

On the other side of the room, Ethfael stood again, having shed his skin to rid himself of the poison. The efforts left him fatigued but they were all tired by this time. He aimed another Icy Wind which hit her directly, freezing the edges of her flower. She shrieked in pain, and Ethfael used Agility to dash over to her and Slam her to the ground, finishing the job. The Gloom pushed herself upward, trying to stand back up and Riley once again pulled out his deck, a single shimmering Trump Card forming for him to grab in his mouth once more. He threw it with even more accuracy than the past ones hitting her inside of the center of her bloom and dealing the final blow, the card revealed to be the Ace of Spades as it flashed by embedding itself in its target. ”Curse you!” the delusional Gloom cried, breaking off into a hacking cough, ”You'll never have it...I'll die before I let you have it...” With a last cough she slumped to the ground, unconscious once more, and the card in her bloom dematerialized.

The trio instantly lost their tension, the weariness of all of them showing as they met up in front of the Gloom, weariness dragging at their steps. ”Everyone here is so suspicious...” Era said, hardly having the capacity to feel much grief over attacking the Gloom, feeling numbness inside,”What could possibly have been done to these Pokemon?”

The laughter from before recommenced and the whispers intensified sounding rather delighted for some reason and Ethfael looked about warily. ”If I'm right, we'll probably find out sooner than later.” They all sat down and Ethfael removed an Oran Berry for each of them. ”Eat up,” he murmured, passing them out, ”We need our strength, and it can't be much longer until we get there.”

The picture was rather gloomy, a trio of exhausted Pokemon eating berries next to an unconscious Gloom, lit by a small but bright ball of electricity charged by Era. They all were silent as they allowed the Oran Berries to restore their energy once more, their eyes growing a bit brighter once more as the healing began to take effect. ”This place is worse than it looks from the outside,” Riley said jokingly as they stood up again, ”I know I keep saying this, but I couldn't have done this without you guys.”

Era smiled again, brightening up the dark tunnel with her cheerful expression, ”It's been worth every minute Riley. You're a great friend. We wouldn't have made it half as far without you here with us.” Ethfael nodded, even he having warmed up to the Eevee a bit by his time, and Riley smiled looking down modestly. Looking out into the darkness, Era picked up the Light Ball from where it had fallen on the floor and returning it to the chain where it normally hung around her neck. ”We'd better be going before that Gloom wakes up again,” she murmured, eyes on the shadowy path before them, ”Hopefully she's regained her senses when she wakes up.” Stepping forward, the Pichu led the way further into the dark.

As they walked down the pathway it grew more and more twisted and divided, causing them to end up at a dead end more than a few times. It was unbelievable how complex it was, especially since it was only a mine. Even the most skilled of miners would have difficulties finding their way through these underground paths unless they themselves had built it. The puzzling pathways combined with the ever-irritating sounds of whispers and laughter that still wouldn't go away was enough to cause them all to grow weary and anxious as they wandered through the darkness.

When they came to about the fifth dead end in a row, Era sighed, rather defeated and turned around to collide with Ethfael who was right behind her. She jumped in surprise, as did he and a shower of sparks cascaded from her cheeks when they touched. ”Oh!” she gasped, paws over her mouth, ”I'm so sorry Ethfael! Are you alright?”

Ethfael winced a bit, the sparks stinging a bit as they hit him, more like a small burst of static electricity than anything else. He had come up for a closer look at the wall, thinking that he might have spotted something on it, but then she'd unexpectedly turned back, her face so close to his that he'd nearly backed up in his initial astonishment. ”I'm fine,” he replied casually, although his heart had accelerated several beats, ”It's not your fault.”

”It's this weird problem that's just sprung up out of nowhere,” Era said, rubbing her cheek slightly, ”I learned to control excess electricity a long time ago, but for some reason I've been having a bit of trouble with that here...” Looking around at the walls of earth and stone around them, she sighed, ”Maybe it's just these mines,” she said, ”I've never been away from the sun and fresh air for so long.”

”Cheer up Era,” Riley said, having been listening patiently beside Ethfael. ”I know we're getting close. I can just feel it somehow!” He looked excited, tail whipping back and forth and a bright gleam in his eye, looking ready to conquer the world with only the spirit of adventure by his side.

Era smiled once more at Riley's optimism, pleased that he was as eager as they to keep on moving. ”Alright then,” she said, ”The only way forward is further in, so let's go!”

”Hold on.” Ethfael's voice was quiet but caught the attention of the other two easily. The Dratini was on the edges of the area of light made by Era's Light Ball, leaning forward to try and make out something that was visible on the wall. ”Era, come over here.” The Pichu obliged and walked over to the wall, followed closely by Riley. When she brought the light closer, it became clear to the others what it was that had caught Ethfael's eye. Strange grooves were made in the soil; carved so long ago that they were hardened into the ground in the clay. It was some sort of script or message written there, but it looked like nothing more than a collection of haphazard lines to the others, whereas he saw what they truly meant. ”Look closely,” he said tracing the lines with his tail, ”Tell me what you see.”

Era and Riley obliged, staring hard at the lines to try and pick out some sort of pattern. There were so many of them that it didn't seem like they meant anything. As Era looked on, she spotted a pair of lines that were different than the others. While they were all straight, those two were curved, and traveled through the others to make a recognizable shape, meeting up at the end. ”I see it!” she gasped, ”It's a-!” Her sentence was cut off as she was pushed down to the grown by a harsh claw from a Shadow Sneak.

”Era?” Ethfael said with surprise, reaching down to help her up but halted by a Fake Out from the still unseen attacker, causing him to flinch. The laughter from before started up again, causing Riley to turn around just in time to get a Scratch to the face from the elusive enemy. There was no sign of any opponent, just the same shadows moving around the edges and the high-pitched laughter and whispers that wouldn't go away and were threatening to penetrate the minds of the trio. Era got up again, looking around for any sign of her attacker, and gasped with shock as she was hit in the back once more, but this time she felt her Light Ball fall from her necklace thanks to a Knock Off, and in seconds the light given off by it was gone, leaving them in pitch darkness.

”Oh Arceus...” Riley said nervously, ”What's going on?” The high pitched laughter recommenced, sounding as if its source was right next to him and Riley jumped in astonishment, quivering slightly. The darkness was making him feel slightly claustrophobic, and the feeling intensified as the laughter seemed to increase and circle around him. To his astonishment, there was a sudden burst of light that danced across his vision, shocking him slightly but also revealing the source of his plight, a ring of Sableye, the Thundershock hitting one and reflecting off of the eyes of the others. With a round of screams, the Sableye shrunk back disappearing once more as Era’s attack ran its course. ”Sableye?” he said uncertainly, ”So there really are ghosts in here…”

Ethfael blindly fired a Dragon Rage, the purple fire flying past and reflecting off of the gemstone eyes of the Sableye. Moments later he was swarmed, gasping in pain as he was hit with Shadow Claw on all sides. He summoned a Twister, the attack picking up one of the Sableye judging from the shriek he heard, followed by the thunk sound as something hard hit the wall. The Sableye around him retreated, not wanting the same thing to happen to them, their creepy laughter echoing all around the passage. ”Come out and fight!” Ethfael shouted, the statement only being greeted by more laughter as a Shadow Sneak from one of them hit him and caused him to lash out with Aqua Tail, feeling a satisfying collision with something else before it vanished.

Era looked about in the darkness, trying to find something to aim at. Hitting one of the others with an attack would do no good, but in unbreakable darkness it was impossible to tell where the enemy or even an ally was. She heard the faintest of rustles behind her, spinning around and meeting the Faint Attack of a Sableye with a Thunderpunch of her own. The creature cried out in agony at the light, clearly blinded by the sight of the electricity, and tore off, disappearing and not wanting to come back. In the split-second of Era’s attack, the position of all of the Sableye and Ethfael and Riley were revealed, and while Era couldn’t tell, the other two were ready to make the most of the momentary advantage.

Riley leaped to the closest chuckling Sableye and gave it a hard Bite on the hand, determined not to let go even when it earned him another Scratch to the face. The Sableye hissed and clawed at Riley with Fury Swipes. Riley let go for a moment as it clawed, still blind to his opponent, and gave him another Bite, this one hitting where it seemed to hurt the most for the Sableye nearly deafened him with its cry of protest. It squirmed out of his jaws and ducked away, finished with the fight for now.

Ethfael turned on a Sableye by his side in the burst of light and aimed a Dragon Rage at its jeweled eyes. The Sableye howled, blinded by the fire that had hit it, and returned the blast with a Shadow Ball. Ethfael grimaced as the ghostly orb hit him but kept at his blind attack, hitting with Aqua Tail until he connected with something solid and was hit by a set of Fury Swipes from his opponent. One more Dragon Rage meeting its mark was all it took for the creature to turn and flee, its voice receding as it vanished.

Era took a gamble, aiming a Thundershock at the ceiling to light up the room, keeping the electricity flowing to show the remaining Sableye. The three were revealed to be in a ring around her and at once laughed and hit her with a joint Night Shade. Era gasped as her vision changed, the light of the Thundershock showing the Sableye attacking Ethfael mercilessly and the Dratini falling to the ground, unable to rise, beaten and bruised and bleeding in several different places, clearly dying. Era… her vision spoke, the Dratini raising his head to meet her eyes. I’m…sorry. he said, his breath growing shallow and then stopping altogether his unseeing eyes still staring into hers. Era felt a tangible pain wrack through her as she ran over to the body of her partner and best friend. ”No, Ethfael!” she moaned, tears springing to her eyes, ”You can’t be dead!” She fell to the ground beside his body, crying as he Thundershock stopped, her will not able to keep it going, ”You can’t be…”

Ethfael heard Era’s words with confusion, unable to tell what had happened. He’d seen the Sableye around her as she’d given them all light for another moment, and then it had suddenly stopped, to be replaced with…those words. ”Era!” he called out, ”I’m-!” He was silenced by a paw over his mouth and a chorus of eerie snickers from the surrounding Sableye. The two not covering his mouth took turns hitting him with Scratch attack, beginning to draw blood as Ethfael squirmed, trying to free himself from his captors.

Riley heard both Era and Ethfael’s voices, heading towards Ethfael’s when it was cut off. As he walked forward a shiver ran down his spine as he walked through a Sableye and into Ethfael. The Dratini, assuming it was a careless Sableye beat down on him with an Aqua Tail, causing the Eevee to splutter. ”Ethfael! It’s me! It’s me darn it!” The Dratini stopped and Riley pounced, giving a quick Bite down on what seemed to be Sableye flesh and was affirmed to be so by the lack of comment on Ethfael’s part, the Dratini aiming Dragon Rage after Dragon Rage at the two Sableye nearby himself. The two Ethfael attacked ran off, Ethfael’s Dragon Rage’s tailing them as they did and showing brief glimpses of their retreating figures, before he turned and aimed one at Riley’s Sableye, the Bite from the Eevee combined with the Dragon Rage proving too much for the Pokemon and causing it to slip away as well. They waited for a few moments, at the ready for another attack, but none came, the strange laughter having gone as well. With a relieved sigh, Riley sat down, panting, and Ethfael made his way over to where faint noises could be heard in the corner.

When he made it over to the source of the noises, it was evident that they were the sounds of crying, coming from someone who was clearly distraught. Careful not to get too close for fear of hitting her, Ethfael listened to the sound of Era’s tears. ”Why?” she whispered, the darkness preventing her from seeing anything but the vision from the Night Shade still fresh in her mind, ”Ethfael, how can you leave me like this? We made a promise you and I, don’t you remember?”

”I do,” Ethfael replied closing his eyes and following his senses toward where he could almost feel the presence of Era, touching her gently with the tip of his tail and pausing as she gasped. ”I could never forget it. As long as I live I will keep that promise, whether it’s only a few years, or to the end of eternity.”

Era’s eyes opened wide at the sound of his voice, sparks flying to her cheeks that showed it wasn’t just a voice in her mind, and that Ethfael truly did stand before her and not dead on the ground. ”But…How?” she asked, reaching a paw out to touch him through the darkness and feeling his heartbeat below where it rested.

”Our minds play games with us sometimes,” Ethfael replied gently, a tone he only ever used with her, ”Ghosts often manipulate us like that. I’m alive though,” he assured her, ”As living as I ever have been and ever will be.”

Era’s eyes welled up with tears yet again, words unable to describe her emotions as she listened to him talking, assuring her that he was alive even though she had thought she’d seen him die. She closed the distance between them and hugged him tightly, unwilling to let go for fear that he’d disappear. Without him she felt incomplete, like a whole part of her was missing. ”Oh thank Arceus…” she whispered. Then, in the shadows of the darkness, she did something she never thought she’d do. Standing on her tiptoes she found Ethfael’s head and kissed him. It was short and gentle, soft as a butterfly’s wing, and then she backed down, her heart fluttering wildly from what she’d just done.

Ethfael touched the spot on his cheek where she’d kissed him, slightly disbelieving. His heart had seemed to stop and time freeze as he felt her kiss and now there was nothing left for him to feel but shock and a strange feeling of contentment. ”You could do that again if you’d like,” he whispered softly to her.

Era blushed deeply but obliged, kissing him once more on the cheek and took a step back just as a scuffling sound was heard over on the opposite side of the tunnel. ”Era!” came Riley’s voice, ”I think I found your Light Ball! You’ll need to charge it again though it looks like.”

Era hurried to fight the blush from her face and headed toward Riley’s voice; they still had to finish their mission after all. ”I’m coming!” she called, ”Where are you?”

”Here-oof!” Riley started before Era crashed into him. Wincing a bit from the impact, Riley found her paw with his and passed the Light Ball to her. The instant it touched her paw, the ball lit up once more, shedding light on their surroundings. Ethfael made his way over to them, as calm and collected as ever, and Era replaced the Light Ball on its chain once more, like a shimmering necklace of electric light. Riley smiled slightly, ”So, now that that’s taken care of, shall we keep going?”

Ethfael nodded, his eyes on Era even as he moved over to the wall with the scratches from earlier. ”Yes,” he said, ”As I was saying before those Sableye interrupted, these lines here”-which he turned around and traced as he continued-”Form the shape of a gemstone, see?”

Riley nodded, following the outline Ethfael showed, ”Hey! I remember this!” he said brightly, ”All you have to do is…”-he walked up to the wall and then right through it-”This!” Era and Ethfael blinked in astonishment at seeing an Eevee walk through a wall, scarcely able to believe their eyes. Riley poked his head out a moment later, his head appearing to be disconnected from his body, ”Come on, it’s not real, it’s just an illusion!”

Era and Ethfael looked at one another and slowly moved forward, walking through together. Riley waited for them on the other side, perking up as they came through. ”Who came up with this?” Era asked in astonishment looking behind her at the apparently solid wall they’d just come through. This side of the wall was entirely untarnished and seemed as solid as the other side had, making it very hard to believe they’d just walked through it.

”It was my great great great great grandfather,” Riley said proudly, ”He was an Espeon that was really good at illusions. He placed such a strong image here that it not only looks solid still, but has stayed for all of these years after his death. It helps both to guard against others finding our family secret, and to help us find the shortcut there when we’re traveling to the chamber.” The Eevee looked very pleased with the whole concept, ”I’d love to be like him someday, and be a famous magician of world renown. He wasn’t a magician by trade, but he was known all over the world for his illusions.” The way that Riley’s eyes shone as he spoke of his dream was enough to show how sincere he was, and his eyes sparkled mischievously as he caught Era’s eye. ”Want to see a card trick? They’re my best.”

Era blinked in surprise at the unexpected question, but smiled cheerfully, not seeing how it could hurt anything. ”Alright,” she said brightly, eliciting a smile from Riley.

”Great!” the Eevee said, a deck of cards materializing in front of him, and a shimmer of sparkles trailing off them. Spreading them out with his paw, Riley looked back up at Era and Ethfael. ”Pick a card.”

”I have a better idea,” came a voice from behind them, causing all three to whirl around in surprise, ”How about we lose the tricks and come back to reality Eevee. You and the other two.” The accusatory voice came from a Kirlia who stood half-veiled in darkness before them, a smirk on his face. He strode forward, as graceful as Lydia had been, but in an almost deadly way, and walked straight through them to the cards in an almost casual way. Picking the cards up, he laughed, scattering them this way and that to all edges of the tunnel. ”You have nothing better to do than card tricks little Eevee? What a shame. I would pity you if I weren’t here to stop you in your tracks.”

All three of them gaped at the Kirlia in shock and astonishment as he stood there laughing. Riley’s fur bristled and he stepped forward. ”What was that for? I’ve never done anything to you at all.”

”Oh no?” the Kirlia replied, ”That’s funny, I seem to remember a certain Eevee barreling me down not more than a week ago when he bolted down this tunnel as if Darkrai himself was after him. That Eevee dropped something, which is why I knew he’d come back here, so I’ve been waiting since then. You know what he dropped, don’t you?” Riley’s face paled as if remembering something, and the Kirlia laughed, ”I thought you might. Does this ring a bell?” He pulled out from behind his back a small charm in the shape of a sun that hung from a ribbon. It was old and worn, like a collar that someone would wear, and clearly Riley knew it from somewhere.

Quaking ever so slightly, Riley stepped forward again. ”Give it back.” he said, his voice more serious than Era and Ethfael had ever heard it to be.

The Kirlia eyed him skeptically, ”Hmmm… Give it to you? No, I don’t think so, I have a far better idea.” Slowly and deliberately, the Kirlia took the ribbon and tossed it into the air, summoning a Magical Leaf as he did so. Riley looked on in horror as the leaves flew through the air straight towards the ribbon, a silent cry on his lips as they sliced the ribbon to shreds and cut up the charm until it was unrecognizable. The Kirlia took it in his palm and used Psychic to distort the metal until it wasn’t anything more than a crumpled up piece of metal, which fell to the ground with a soft thud.

Riley quivered, his entire body shaking with fury as he looked up to meet the Kirlia’s eyes. ”How dare you,” he growled, his voice soft and menacing.

The Kirlia returned the gaze coolly, ”Oh, now I’m frightened. What’s an Eevee going to do about it?”

Riley took another step forward, his gaze hardened, limbs tensed, and ready for a fight. ”I will fight.”

The Kirlia laughed, clearly not taking him seriously, ”Bring it on Eevee, bring it on.”

Riley hurtled himself toward the Kirlia who did a Teleport to the side and hit him with Confusion. Era bristled with anger, wanting to help, but Ethfael held her back. ”Not this time,” he told her gently, ”This is his battle.” Era looked between the Eevee and Kirlia and then sighed; Ethfael was right, but it would be hard for her to stay out of this.

Riley once again aimed an attack at the Kirlia who once again disappeared in a Teleport and reappeared to the side, but this time Riley was ready, hitting him with a Quick Attack before the Psychic Type could land a blow, and giving him a hard Bite in order to keep the Kirlia from regaining his focus too much. The Kirlia grimaced, closing his eyes as Riley hit him with a Tackle and then lifting the Eevee into the air with Psychic. He slammed Riley against the wall with the force of his mind and then opened his eyes again, tearing into the fallen Eevee with Magical Leaf.

Riley stood, slightly dazed, and dashed through the leaves toward the Kirlia, only to be hit with a Confusion attack. He winced at the mental assault and wildly struck out, landing his Quick Attack and knocking the Kirlia down. The Kirlia stood with a flourish and closed his eyes again, looking with Future Sight. Riley aimed numerous physical attacks at the Kirlia, but to no avail, the Pokemon stepping to avoid them almost before they came. He opened his eyes, locking onto Riley, and Riley felt himself pressed down to the ground by immense psychic energy that remained from the Future Sight. ”You should think twice before messing with a Psychic, Eevee. Remember that.”

The Kirlia turned to leave, satisfied that it had beaten Riley down enough now, but Riley wasn’t ready to give in. The battle-weary Eevee stood up to his paws staring down the Kirlia from the back, causing the Psychic Type to pause as he sensed his foe rising. ”I’m not finished yet,” Riley said, causing the Kirlia to turn back and face him again. ”The first thing you need to know about magicians,” Riley said, staring the Kirlia down, ”You can reveal his tricks, but you will never be able to suppress his pride.” The Kirlia was beginning to look slightly worried as Riley took a step forward, stepping back to avoid close contact and Riley smirked. ”What’s this, afraid of an Eevee?”

Before Riley materialized his deck of cards in perfect condition and all before him, causing the Kirlia to look around for the ones he’d scattered which had never been picked up. He manipulated the cards, shuffling them without touching them and all the while advancing on the Kirlia. As he drew closer he touched the top of four cards, not even looking at them, eyes always locked on the Kirlia’s, and the other cards vanished, the four cards he’d chosen rotating around him. ”Never underestimate a magician,” he told the Kirlia, ”He’ll always have an extra trick up his sleeve.” With that, the cards froze, spinning in place and then flying over to the Kirlia. Their face values were easily visible, the Aces in ascending order flew over to the Kirlia and they floated around him. The Ace of Clubs hit first an explosion of brilliant black gems that hit the Kirlia and caused him to flinch; next came the Ace of Diamonds, turning to a red beam which wrapped itself about the Kirlia sending shockwaves coursing through him; third was the Ace of Hearts, rose petals falling to the ground and exploding into bombs of deadly sparkling shards; and the final Ace of Spades shimmered and shattered into an explosion of light which blinded all there for a moment and muted the noise of the Kirlia’s cry of pain. When their vision returned to normal, the Kirlia lay on the ground unconscious, the four cards of Riley’s Trump Card beside him. Riley walked over and picked them up, and then turned to face a stunned Era and Ethfael. ”Presto!” he said lightly, and the same white sparkles from before overcame the cards as they exploded into harmless shimmering lights.

Era and Ethfael were both struck speechless by this display of power. ”Riley…” Era managed to say once she regained her voice, shaking her head in astonishment, ”You’re amazing.”

Riley looked at her in surprise, ”You really think so?” he asked her genuinely, ”I’ve always been told that it’s terrible; the worst that anyone’s ever seen.”

”Who told you such a thing?” Ethfael asked in return, ”Never in my life have I seen a Trump Card like that one, it was truly remarkable.” Era nodded vigorously in agreement; it had been quite a sight to behold.

Riley looked rather flattered as well as surprised, ”My parents,” he answered, looking back at them. ”They think that magic is a waste of time and useless. I’ve tried so hard to show them that it’s more than that, but…” he sighed, shaking his head, ”It’s no use.”

Era bristled with anger as she heard that statement, ”That’s terrible,” she said angrily. ”You don’t deserve that Riley, you’re better than that. What you can do is amazing, and if your own parents can’t see the talent lying in front of their faces, then they must be blind.”

Riley smiled slightly, ”Thanks,” he said to them, looking sadly at the crumpled up piece of brass that used to be the ribbon’s charm.

”If you don’t mind my asking, what was so special about that collar?” Ethfael asked Riley, noticing where he was looking.

”It was my Grandfather’s,” Riley replied, turning it over in his paw with regret, ”He gave it to me when I was little, just before he died. As he lay there, he said to me ‘Riley, you take care of yourself. It may be hard to make the right choices sometimes, but I’ll be there to help guide you. Take this pendant, it’s my special treasure and helps me when I’m feeling down, I want to make sure it’s in good paws.’ Then he took it off and tied it around my neck, and I’ve worn it ever since…” A slight tear welled up in Riley’s eye as he looked at it, ”Grandpa was the only one who understood me, and when I wore the pendant, it was like even though he was gone he was still there with me. Like someone was still on my side, no matter how hard things got.” He cradled the crushed insignia in his paw, a silent flow of tears falling down his face as he did so.

Era felt her heart go out to the Eevee, going over to him and laying a comforting paw on his shoulder. ”It will be alright,” she said soothingly to him, ”I’m sure somewhere your Grandfather is still watching over you, and is more proud of you than you could ever imagine.” Riley nodded, his tears starting to lessen a bit and she petted him gently, ”And don’t forget, we’ll always be here for you too. It’s a promise.” She held her small paw out to him and he took it, sealing the pact. ”Now come on,” she said, ”It can’t be much further now.” They began traveling down the passage, Riley placing the crushed bronze in their bag for safe keeping.

The tunnel was fairly straightforward, no unexpected turns, no pitfalls, just a straight run into an area that was filled with light. The trio walked in to encounter one of the strangest sights they’d seen yet. The area was almost like a room, circular and with walls plated in fine metal and covered with fine Braille. In the very center of the room stood a magnificent statue appearing to be made of solid metal, like a silent guardian of the silent and foreboding place. It was an impressive sight to behold, but it wasn’t their final destination. Ethfael couldn’t help but hazard a closer look at the statue, impressed by its fine carving. In fact the closer he looked, the more it almost seemed like… ”Ethfael!” Era called from the back of the room breaking his train of thought. It was strange how out of place her voice sounded in the silence. ”Come on!” He nodded giving the statue one more long glance before heading past it to the back metal plated wall where Era and Riley stood.

”This is the place,” Riley said quietly, gesturing to the wall covered with Braille. ”Which leaves only one thing.” Riley pressed his right paw against the wall amidst a collection of dots that surrounded a singular dot in a circular formation. One wouldn’t have noticed it unless they were looking for it, which Riley clearly was. The wall swung open like a door, and Riley walked in rather tentatively, Era and Ethfael behind him as they entered the secret chamber.

Inside, a sight seen by very few Pokemon met their eyes, causing both Era and Ethfael to stop and gape at the sight in astonishment for a moment, unable to contain their amazement. The chamber was carved out into a rather dome-like cave, and within lay chests which were open and overflowing with every type of Evolutionary Stone known to exist. They were arranged in a circle all about the room, and Era and Ethfael walked around looking at each individually: a sea-green and silver chest to the left held numerous Water Stones; a yellow and bronze one held Thunder Stones; Fire Stones lay in a red and gold chest; and Leaf Stones were in an evergreen and brown one; Mossy Rock Shards were in a green and tan chest; Icy Rock Shards were in a clear and teal one; King’s Rocks were in a blue and indigo one; Dawn Stones were in a white and amber chest; Dusk Stones in a black and mahogany one; a gray and translucent one held Moon Stones; an orange and goldenrod one held Sun Stones; a lilac and ebony one held Shiny Stones; and a pink and purple one held Oval Stones. There was enough power in here to grant evolution to hundreds of Pokemon, and if they were all to be sold the fortune one would make would be monumental. ”This is…spectacular,” Ethfael said, gazing about around the room.

Riley nodded his head looking about at all the different Stones that affected an Eevee’s Evolution. He seemed rather distraught as he did so; uncertain about what he wanted to chose. Whatever it was that he chose, he’d be stuck like that for the rest of his life and so he had to choose what was best suited to him, but even he didn’t know what that was. While Era and Ethfael looked about the Stones, Riley went over to one of the chests and pulled out the multi-colored scarf from before to wrap a Stone from within it with. He carried it carefully making certain not to touch it. He wasn’t entirely certain if it was what he wanted, but it was something after all. He would think long and hard about it, that was for certain.

As Era and Ethfael finished their full circle around the room, Riley set his wrapped parcel down, remembering the other part of his request. ”Oh! I almost forgot,” he said, ”Please, choose an Evolutionary Stone that you want too.”

Era and Ethfael looked at each other, both knowing that they didn’t really have any particular need for any of the Evolutionary Stones there. After a moment of silence, Ethfael chose one off the top of his head, ”I suppose we’ll take a Fire Stone…” Riley nodded, withdrawing another scarf from who knows where and grabbing a Fire Stone which he then wrapped up in the scarf like his own, carrying both carefully so as not to accidentally bump into one of them.

Walking over to the door and pulling it shut, Riley looked back at Era and Ethfael, ”Well I guess that’s everything,” he said. “Thank you so much.” He walked back to the two stones and picked them up in his mouth, nodding to Era. Era nodded back, pulling the Explorer Badge out of their bag and holding it up towards the ceiling. The badge began to emit a bright light and then they vanished, leaving the secret room silent and undisturbed once again.

When the trio was transported back to the Guild there were no small number of things to be taken care of. Riley said a mumbled goodbye, leaving the Fire Stone with them and taking the other Stone with him, promising to return tomorrow with the rest of their reward. After their client was gone, the two hunted down Officer Magnezone to inform him of the events that had taken place with the Nuzleaf in the Mines, offering one last bit of assistance to their friends Lydia and Ielena. They encountered him near the Bounty List, debating with Officer Arcanine about the level of security threat posed by one of the criminals, and so the two informed them both about the gang of Nuzleaf and Lombre who they had encountered in Gemstone Mines. The Officers assured them that they would send a squad to apprehend the criminals and bring them to justice, thanking and commending Era and Ethfael before they left for taking care of the threat without being instructed to do so. That taken care of the two returned to their Team Room to tell the team about their adventures and get a well deserved rest.

The next day, they were greeted early in the morning by a quick knock on the door. When they opened it, they found Riley standing there, his expression rather pleased as he set down the White Gummis. "Here you are," he said, pushing them with his nose over to Era, "Five White Gummis to go with your Fire Stone. Oh, and there's also..." He paused, a mischievous grin on his face revealing his intentions before he even moved, and then flicked his tail towards Era and Ethfael each in turn. As he did so, there was a bright flash in front of each of them, which faded to reveal two ornate boxes, clearly containing something. He sat down, grinning from ear to ear, to watch as they opened them.

Within her box, Era found a lovely spherical globe that shimmered with electrical sparks from within. It was similar to her Light Ball, but this held more energy, practically seething with excess sparks. She took the Volt Globe out of the box, eyes wide with surprise and gratitude as she looked at Riley. "Now maybe those Ground Types will be a bit more easy to deal with," he said with a wink.

When Ethfael opened his box, he found an Ace of Spades inside, its appearance pristine and new. When he touched it with his tail he could feel a hidden power radiating from within the card, revealing it to be a Trump Card TM. "Because you made me believe that I was good enough," Riley said to him sincerely. "Trump Cards are special, and I bet you could master the cards too, if you tried, or one of your Team." Ethfael nodded with thanks a look of curiosity alight on his face.

His gifts given Riley gave a little cough, and met Era and Ethfael's eyes when they looked at them. "I went home last night..." he began, "And my parents were furious. I showed them the Stone, but they didn't accept it." Era looked dismayed and Ethfael grave at the news, but Riley continued, "They tried to force me to evolve then and there, but I wouldn't, standing up for what I wanted for once, and so they sent me away saying I was no longer their son..."

Era reached out a paw to Riley, her heart going out to the poor Eevee who they had spent so much time with. "Oh Riley," she murmured, "I'm so sorry."

He tried to smile, but the expression faded just as quickly, "I don't have a home anymore... So I was wondering if you would have me." The Eevee's expression was hopeful as he looked at both of them in turn. "I know I'm just an Eevee right now, but I'll evolve soon, and when I do I'll be more powerful. You won't regret it, I promise." He was clearly afraid of refusal, his tail lashing back and forth as he spoke with nerves and his eyes on his paws.

Surprisingly enough, it was Ethfael who spoke first, "Riley, you don't have to worry," the Dratini said, patting him gently with his tail, "We'd be happy to have you. You've more than proved yourself capable of being on a Rescue Team, and it's our pleasure to give you a new home."

Both Era and Riley looked at him with surprise. "Really?" Riley asked, almost disbelieving.

"Really," Era replied, eyes shining with happiness. "Welcome home Riley." The Eevee was speechless with shock, but soon a grin came to his face and he jumped forward to overwhelm them with thank yous.

After Riley was thoroughly satisfied that he'd thanked them enough, Era spotted something she hadn't noticed before. "What's that Riley?" she asked, pointing to a collar that he was wearing.

"It's a reminder," he replied, displaying it to both of them with a hint of pride. "Of why I wouldn't evolve." He looked down at it wistfully and smiled, showing them its material, which appeared to be made out of nothing but shimmering brightness. It seemed to give off a faint glow against his fur, and embedded in its front was the crumpled up metal that had once been the sun on his grandfather's collar. "It's a Light Collar, for Espeon," he informed them. "It was given to me by a friend long ago, and I didn't understand its purpose until I uncovered it yesterday. That's what I want to be when I'm ready, I want to be an Espeon. To help further my magic, and to suit my own self. I brought the other stone though," he added, pulling the scarf from before out of seemingly nowhere and revealing the Mossy Stone within, "As a second choice, or maybe as a way to get the things I need to evolve."

"I'm glad you've found your calling Riley," Era said with a smile. The smile was, admittedly, also partly because he wanted to be an Espeon of all Eeveelutions. It made both her and Ethfael think of Solaris, and they shared a glance of amusement.

At that moment, a crackle of electricity was heard at the door, where a Magnemite was hovering. "BZZT, Is this the room of Team Mist-Melody?" it asked in a strange metallic voice, looking around for confirmation.

"Yes," Era said, going over to him. "What can we do for you?"

"Reporting," it replied. "Four Nuzleaf and three Lombre were tracked down in Gemstone Mines. They have been successfully apprehended."

Ethfael looked over, "That's good to hear," he said, quietly, the three of them all thinking about what had happened and falling silent.

"BZZT! Officer Magnezone wishes to thank you for apprehending these dangerous criminals!" The Magnemite's eye shut briefly, which they took to be an expression of happiness (it's kind of hard to tell when the Pokemon in question is mostly just a floating ball of metal with an eye), and it turned to move a bag over to them with its Magnet Rise. Within the bag, Era and Ethfael found two Ability Swap cards. Before they could thank the Magnemite, its magnets shimmered slightly, making a strange pinging sound. "I must report back," the Magnemite said, turning and heading out as unexpectedly as it had arrived. "Thank you for your asisstance! BZZT!"

As the Magnemite left a trio of Pokemon trailed inside, all of them rather familiar. A cheery looking Vulpix came first, his tails held high and looking abuzz with excitement. "Hi!" he greeted them, "Remember me? My sister told me that this was the place where the Guilds were, so I came here. I want to join your Team!"

After him came a rather shifty looking Sableye who eyed them with a mix of wariness and respect, and a Skitty holding a carefully wrapped parcel in its mouth. "Hi there," he murmured shyly, looking up at them in awe. "Lydia and Ielena asked me to bring this to you," he murmured, placing it on the ground gently, "As a thank you for all your help." Inside the bag lay a shimmering orb; a Protect TM. The Skitty said nothing else, but lingered as if he too possibly wanted to join. However, Team MistMelody could only chose one.

Era and Ethfael looked at the three Pokemon before them, unsure whether they had room for another recruit on their Team. Era's eyes were on the Vulpix, her expression thoughtful. Ethfael followed her gaze, sighing as the boy looked at him hopefully. "Well," he said, "I guess it couldn't hurt." Era smiled as Ethfael beckoned the Vulpix with his tail, "Welcome to the Team."

The other two turned away, eyes downcast and looking rather unhappy, but the brilliant smile on the Vulpix's face was enough to compensate. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!" he said skipping over to them. "I won't disappoint you, I promise!"

"What's your name?" Era asked him.

"Faran," he replied. "Are we going to go fight bad guys now?"

Riley, who had been rather silent throughout the exchange, now burst into laughter, unable to contain himself, and Era was soon to follow. Even Ethfael was unable to keep a smile off his face. "Not just yet," he replied. "You and Riley have a few things you need to know first."

T E A M C L A S H

mission 1;;

Skyler didn’t dare to look at the traitor, that lowlife! How dare he? How dare he accept some pointless mission from some girl? (Especially a mean sounding one!) The Togepi glared at his partner; weren’t they supposed to be pals, and stick to the other no matter what? Girls were so icky and giggled too much, not to mention their terrifying cooties! His partner was stupid, brave, or just… plain Aldric. Ugh, standing around him could give him the cooties! The young Togepi shunned the Bagon by walking further away from him.

On the other hand, our courteous Bagon briefly acknowledged the former’s behavior and paid no heed to it. Of course, Skyler always acted like that! He was only a child, while Aldric himself was devilishly handsome and mature; something that the Togepi wasn’t! Was being a gentleman now dwindling amongst the younger population of his own gender? Have youngsters now turned to beliefs of that imaginary disease called cooties? What had the society now done! It made him grief in a cursory manner. No, focus; they were traversing the first floor of the Gemstone Mines to search for that Fire Stone the young lady needed.

The naïve Togepi didn’t bother to search for whatever that girl needed. Why would he when he was working for her? It seemed too pointless and stupid. The first floor went by pretty quick with nothing interesting to report other than the beautiful gems that decorated the mines. Skyler often gasped at the splendor of the translucent crystals; Aldric appreciated the Togepi’s fascination of the majestic but subtle grandeur of the slightly glowing jewels that scattered about in the cave. They still had to look for a specific stone that the lady had ordered them to find.

(Belly slot: 4 ½)

Now on the second floor, the Togepi’s bitterness towards Aldric had now subsided. Maybe he was being a bit stupid; after all, they needed some missions to get money, right? He opened to mouth to apologize but cut off short by the Bagon’s arm. Aldric raised his other stubby arm to his large jaw, signaling Skyler to be quiet. The smaller gave him a questioning look. The to-be dragon removed his arm from the Togepi’s mouth and pointed his arms in random directions: someone was watching them, possibly even following them too. The duo had set up non-audible signals in emergencies that didn’t allow for voices; this was mainly Aldric’s idea, of course. The team moved as quietly as possible as they continued on, further into the dungeon.

What was following them?

(Belly slot: 4)

They were about to find out about their unexpected guest.

“Now!” The Bagon ordered.

Skyler waved his glowing finger, his brain randomly sorted through a thousand moves until it stopped at one. He opened his mouth to unleash a powerful beam of fire at whatever the assailant was. There was an ungodly screech before a shadow fell at the team’s feet. The shadows dissipated to reveal a Sableye with a burnt arm. It gave a large, disturbing grin before scuttling away into the dark once more. The Togepi was now scared out of his wits; what was that!

“Aldric, that thing’s creepy.” Skyler tentatively said.

“Be quiet, it’s coming back soon.” The said Bagon warned.

“THING? IT? I’M A SHE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!” screamed a rough, feminine voice.

“EEK! A GIRL!” The Togepi cried, accidentally flailing his still-glowing arms about. His brain once again sorted through dozens of attacks before landing on one, forcing the Togepi to attack the Sableye with his own mind with random thoughts. Skyler’s head resonated with pain; he had never tried that attack in all of the moments he had practiced Metronome. What on earth was that? The Pokémon chuckled eerily within the dank cave.

“Kid, psychic attacks ain’t gonna work on me. I’m a dark-type and ghost-type,” The Sableye’s head materialized out from the shadows and grinned mockingly at the Togepi, “I don’t have any weaknesses.”

“Which is why I bothered to do this!”

Aldric reappeared out of nowhere and directly Head-butted the Sableye. Skyler winced at the attack; he felt bad for the creepy Pokémon, even if she was a girl. The Sableye gave an aching groan as Aldric stepped in front of the now limp Pokémon.

“Please tell me why you stalked us two, or you’ll get something worse.” The Bagon threatened; Skyler had never seen Aldric act like that at all, especially to the opposite gender! Aldric’s face was so scary too! He was beginning to get scared of his own friend. Aldric was supposed to be nonchalantly serious, but not this serious! The Togepi took several shaky steps away from the Bagon.

“Alright, alright! I’ll tell! Some guy named Sheldon paid me a good price if I could capture the guys from Team Clash. So when I heard that the two of youse were coming here for a mission, I had to do the job! Just please, spare me!”

The to-be dragon outright growled at the Sableye; “You’ve got ten seconds to leave. One—”

But the Sableye had more than willingly obliged the warning. There were a few awkward moments before Skyler interrupted the silence.

“Hey, who’s Shel—?”

“Let’s keep moving, shall we?” The Bagon hastily made way to the stairway that led to a deeper level.

What was going on?

(Belly slot: 3 ½)

Our young, brash Togepi was now hungry. He wanted food, now. But Aldric had the bag of food, and he was in a bad mood. Skyler’s stomach rumbled in the darkness. The Bagon stopped long enough to throw the Togepi a berry. Skyler happily devoured the fruit, a bit more satisfied than before. Aldric’s temper hadn’t subsided yet; and Skyler kept a good distance from him to avoid any incurred wrath from him. He really didn’t want to see Aldric when he was angry, and he thought nobody else did either.

(Belly slot: 3 ½, -1 Oran Berry)

“… Are you okay now?” inquired the Togepi. Usually he wasn’t like this, but now was the exception because of his partner.

“… yes, I’m alright.” Replied Aldric, he didn’t seem all that angry anymore.

“Okay then. Tell me what happened back there. Who’s Sheldon?”

“… He’s my brother. I do not know why, but he’s hunting me down.”

“Why?”

“Like I said, I have no information about it. I’ve already met some of his hired goons. They weren’t very pleasant meetings.”

Skyler’s stomach once again growled for attention.

“Can I have an apple?”

“Sure.”

(Belly slot: 4 ½, -1 Apple)

Now on the sixth floor, they still haven’t found that Fire Stone the lady needed. This was beginning to get ridiculous! Where was that forsaken stone? They had four floors left, thankfully. Skyler was beginning to complain about the mission. They were going to get good money, at the very least. Aldric hoped that it wouldn’t be that late now. There was something watching them again, the same feeling from the previous floor too. However, it seemed to be different. What else was following them now? The Bagon didn’t need to apprehend another one, especially with how he treated a woman of all things last time!

“Come out, whomever and wherever you are.” The to-be dragon commanded.

“Aldric, what are you—” But before the Togepi could finish that sentence, the said Bagon forced his head down.

“Duck!”

Something swooped down from above and snatched the Bagon clear off the ground. Panic invaded Skyler’s veins as he saw his close friend helplessly fight for his life in midair. They were in a floor with a high ceiling; if Aldric were to fall… it sent a shudder down the Togepi’s back. He didn’t want to think, let alone know, what would happen. As soon as Skyler recovered, he saw his friend’s neck held tightly by… a Togetic! The Togepi was confused; weren’t they supposed to be harbingers of happiness, not lethal assassins?

“Hey! What are you doing with Aldric?” Skyler naively shouted at the flying Pokémon.

“His brother kindly asked me to bring him home.” They curtly replied. The Togetic had a refined, masculine voice that identified them as a guy.

“Give him back, you’re hurting him!” Skyler tried to jump for the choking Bagon, but for obvious reasons couldn’t reach him.

“Aww, the wittle egg can’t fwy?” The Togetic taunted.

Something shattered inside the Togepi; and it sent him over the edge. He was absolutely determined to get the Bagon back, but the Togetic merely hovered there in midair, smirking oh so evilly at him. It frustrated him even more. Something in his mind began to snap, and Skyler could feel almost everything around him, but he couldn’t see a thing. Something kept pinching his forehead, and then the feeling grew and grew until all of the pent-up rage inside of him drained quickly. It was hurting him so much.

A scream cut off the pain, and whatever was pinching Skyler’s forehead went away.

Aldric was on the floor, desperately regaining his breath while the Togetic was unconscious. That was so weird; what was that anyway? Skyler hoped that he wouldn’t go through that again; he was still having headaches from whatever that was. He went over to the Bagon and waited for him to catch his breath. It took a while, but Aldric was up and as serious as before. The Togepi was glad that his partner was okay, and his dream was still intact. Of course, he was still determined than ever before to fly!

But Aldric stayed really quiet. What’s wrong with him?

(Belly slot: 4)

The Bagon kept a safe distance from Skyler, which bothered the Togepi. He was confused; what was up with him? Was it because of the previous battle? Or something else?

“What’s wrong, Aldric?” Skyler asked. He saw the said Bagon flinch before he spoke.

“… that… whatever you did, please don’t do it in the near or far future.” Aldric’s tone was serious, not the nonchalant serious the Togepi was so used to before, but the serious serious from the first battle.

“I don’t wanna anyway.” Replied Skyler, still confused about the situation. Then the Bagon visibly relaxed.

“Good,” That made the Togepi up in his spirits again.

“So… what’s up with your brother now?”

“Sheldon apparently wants me home.”

“Why?”

“Once again, I must remind you that I do not have the necessary information on this case.”

“So…?”

“I do not know.”

“Oh, okay!”

“Let’s get on with the mission, shall we?”

(Belly slot: 3 ½)

On the eighth floor, it seemed eerily quiet. Aldric once again had that feeling from the previous battles; someone was stalking them again. He was beginning to be tired from Sheldon’s game, but decided (like a gentleman) to play it until the end. Besides, having someone like Skyler could makes things interesting in this round. He secretly smirked at the thought of his own brother losing against him. Nevertheless, it was all a fun game to play, wasn’t it?

“Hey, Aldric? I’m getting hungry again,” whined Skyler, whose stomach once again growled for attention. How Aldric ended up with the Togepi remained a mystery.

The Bagon dug around in the team’s bag for an apple, and tossed it to the egg-like Pokémon. Skyler caught it in his stubby paws and gulped down the food item hungrily. He did like to eat fast. Now Aldric remembered how he ended up with the Togepi; they shared the same dream to fly. While it was in the Bagon’s genetics to want to fly, the Togepi’s was of his own will. They were almost opposites, and Aldric served as the guardian figure for the tyke.

“Shouldn’t we be looking for that Fire Stone, Aldric?”

“Usually the evolution stones are found at the end of Gemstone Mines.”

“Then hurry up! I wanna get outta here as fast as possible!”

“Doesn’t it go ‘as soon as possible’?”

“Whatever!” The Togepi scoffed. As if Skyler cared about those weird sayings.

(Belly slot: 4, -1 Apple)

A Lombre lumbered around, waiting for his amigos to arrive. They were supposed to have block party here in the Gemstone Mines… right? He checked the invitation card again, only to discover that the party was somewhere around the Guild of the Sun’s territory. Aw man, he fought dozens of wild Pokémon for nothing! That was just cold, Lady Luck, that was just cold. And just when he was about to get up, some two silly fools appeared out of nowhere.

Lady Luck, you just suck.

“Yo dawgs, I gotta jump this place, man. There was s’posed to be a par-tay in here, but this dude’s lost his way. You diggin’ me here?” He explained.

No, they dun be diggin’ you.

A crack resonated from his jaw. He stumbled back a few steps before getting owned by a Bagon with a head-butt to his face. The Lombre did not like his day so far. Wait; was that a kid running around with a ninja headband or something? Goodness gracious, the kid dunno the first meaning of fashion! Homeboy style fashion. Oh wait, was that kid… OH NO HE DIN’T. HE DID NOT JUST TRY TO COPY HIS STYLE. THAT KIDBOY GONNA PAY, MAN. No one copies his style! It be his own style!

“L’IL DUDE, YOU DID NOT JUST GO THERE.” He warned, jumping at the kidboy.

But he got owned in the face again. Then the world was swirling. Was he dope again? No, he quit a long time ago. It seemed so long ago when he met his amigos. Ugh, his head hurt. Aw, the Lombre got knocked out by two fools. How does that happen? Lady Luck, you so fine that you suck. Ha ha, he was gonna share that with the boys. Ugh, it felt like a hangover from that one party. He didn’t wanna go there again.

Meanwhile, our team powered through another floor.

(Belly slot: 3 ½)

Now they were at the final floor.

It was filled with every evolutionary stone known to Pokémon, but they weren’t here for their selves. They were there for a mission to complete. However, where would they start, there were so many stones in one place! But Skyler had quite the sharp eye when he needed it. This was apparent almost right away when he found a lone Fire Stone surrounded by dozens of Dawn and Shiny Stones. The only problem now was that the stone was embedded into the wall.

“This is quite the annoyance,” stated Aldric, “nevertheless, there’s always a solution to every puzzle.”

“How about I head-butt it?” The Togepi suggested.

“An idea, but the stone’s surrounded by Dawn Stones. Your kind evolves with the help of that stone, so there’s no telling what could happen if you head-butt it. However I, on the other hand, can do so without any effect.”

“So…?”

“I’ll head-butt it.”

“How come you get all the fun?” Skyler sighed in an annoyed manner.

“Because I’m a gentleman, need I say more?”

After having said that, the Bagon made a large distance between the wall and himself. Skyler, not knowing any better, was confused as to what Aldric was doing. Without another warning, the to-be dragon charged at the wall; he managed to knock the Togepi clear off the ground while he was at it. Skyler landed quite roughly on his face, while Aldric chipped off a part of the wall that contained the Fire Stone their client needed.

“Let’s go, shall we?” The Bagon flashed his badge, and they were warped out of the cave.
