Inferno MountainOn the side of the desert, the mountain chain that holds back the moisture that could transform the barren land stands. Amongst them is a special mountain, one that seems to always be smoking. This mountain is actually a volcano, with many small crevices that release heat and smoke from the fiery core all over the mountain, making the whole place quite hospitable to fire-types.
If you decide to come here however, beware of venturing to the crater at the mountain's peak, for it is said that Moltres lies asleep at the centre and will destroy anyone who dares to wake it.
Within its heart is a complex cavern system, a place Explorers call the Molten Caverns.
Floors: 20 Wild Pokemon Growlithe, Geodude, Graveler, Charmander, Magby, Houndour, Numel Legendary: Moltres

Zen & Vertigo & the Good Doctor
”Oooh,” Zen said, raising his eyes to take in the giant, jagged volcano in front of him and his partner Vertigo, as well as that creepy Sableye tagging behind them. He was carrying his sack again and was probably going body hunting, thinking it easiest to follow his team. ”So, we’re looking for a missing Cyndaquil on Floor 13,” Zen said, Vertigo nodding as they entered, closely shadowed by the Good Doctor.
It was dark inside the mountain’s biggest cave, for sure, and Zen quickly quieted down. He could be stupid at times, but now he was totally focused – as much as was possible for him, at least, as he soon spotted a bit of light and ran over to it. ”Wait –“ Vertigo called, experienced with such traps, and hurried behind the determined Squirtle, who looked confused as he realized the light was actually a fire. ”I should probably put this out, who knows– aah!” he cried, Vertigo pulling him away at the same time he shot out a Water Gun, which went off course by (not quite) a mile and hit a nearby rock instead. ”Dude! I get that you’re paranoid, but that’s not very helpful,” he grumbled, preparing to shoot another, but he was hit by a large rock before he could finish. Looking up, he noticed that the rock he had his was actually a Geodude. Oops. ”Sorry about that! We’ll just be passing now, see you – ow! You little brat!” he yelled, as he was hit by another, and sent back a Water Gun in retaliation, Vertigo helping out with a Vine Whip. The Geodude fell back and fainted, and the Good Doctor hurried forward, looking for something to loot, but he found nothing that was of use to him. ”Arceus, Zen, you need to be more careful!” the Bulbasaur grumbled as they ascended to the next floor.
“Hi! Hi! Who are you?” chimed a happy voice as soon as they entered the second floor. They looked up to see two young children, a Growlithe and Magby, standing and grinning cheerily. “We never get visitors! Come on, let’s play!” said the Growlithe, the Magby nodding vigorously, and they began to run off. “Betcha can’t catch us!” “Aww, they’re so cute, let’s!” Zen said to Vertigo, before running off to follow the kids, who cheered as he did so. “…Hey! Wait up!” he called, doing the same, and he (shadowed by the Doctor) arrived in another chamber in time to hear, “Hey! Let’s have a move contest! I’ll go first!” The Growlithe used a weak Bite on Zen, who squeaked and shook him off, before saying, “Hey, that was pretty good!” The Magby darted forward, using Burn, a move at which Zen was completely unfazed. Still, he decided to humor the little girl. “That was also really good!” he said, grinning, and she smiled back. “Your turn, Mr. Squirtle!” the Magby said, and Zen nodded. “Okay!” He shot out a huge Water Gun which hit the Growlithe, lots of the water also splashing onto the Magby; predictably, they fainted. “Oops,” he said, frowning. “We’d better go,” Zen said, grabbing Vertigo and pulling him up the stairs, followed by the Good Doctor, who had refrained from looting the fainted children. “Come on! We have to move, quickly!” Zen cried, still pulling Vertigo. “Um…we really should go back and explain…” Vertigo said, but Zen shook his head, still rushing down the hall. “Not happening, we have to - oof!” The Squirtle ran into a little Charmander, who looked up and frowned. “I’m in a hurry!” the little fire lizard said, twitching his tail flame and shooting an annoyed Ember at their direction, catching Vertigo on the foot. “OW OW OW!” he whined, grabbing his foot as he and Zen shot off simultaneous counterattacks, knocking out the Charmander, who gave a venomous hiss before collapsing, Zen’s attack having hit its tail. Then Zen noticed that the Ember had actually given Vertigo a burn, saying, “Here, I’ll fix that!” before using a Water Gun to calm it. The injury could be treated later. And while this was happening, the Good Doctor decided to take the Charmander’s tail, slicing it off with one quick motion and depositing it in his bag. He found it quite interesting. Vertigo, noticing this, twitched an eye. He didn’t really approve of the Good Doctor, but he didn’t want to argue with that scythe. The next floor was hot, very hot – the air was, in fact, completely devoid of moisture and as soon as the trio entered, Vertigo began to cough. Zen halfheartedly patted him on the back while looking around for some or any signs that would direct them to the exit, but as he saw none and the smoke was getting thicker, he sent another Water Gun his partner’s way in time to see the Good Doctor move in front of them and say in that weird accent of his, “Follow me.” But as the others had no better plan, they ended up walking through the floor with the Sableye leading when they first heard the scream. Then a furious shout followed, and Zen looked around nervously. “What’s happening?” he asked his partner, who rolled his eyes and said, “Nothing to worry about. Let’s press on.” And so they did, almost reaching the exit when from behind them came a voice dripping with venom. “You.” Vertigo turned around, as well as Zen and the Good Doctor, in time to see a large Growlithe lunge at the Squirtle. “You hurt my children, you little b*****d,” she roared, slashing him with her claws, and the little turtle screamed, shooting off Water Guns that only fueled her fire more. “And you’re gonna pay! I’m going to kill you!” she screamed, the fire of fury in her eyes as she shot off a Flamethrower, hitting Zen in the chest. He curled in with Withdraw, the attack hurting him badly, and as he recoiled, Vertigo and the Good Doctor came to his defense. The Bulbasaur pulling her back with a vine while the Good Doctor snuck in close for a quick slash with his scythe. Roaring, she brought back her paw, knocking both Zen and Vertigo over, and turned to face the Good Doctor. He smiled. “Madam, I know you must be very upset,” he said. “But I cannot let you hurt more children.” She looked quizzically at him, before lunging out at Zen once more; and the Sableye took quick action, dashing forward and embedding it into the back of her neck, in the spinal cord; a quick, painless death by Good Doctor standards. As she dropped to the floor, both Zen and Vertigo scrambled up, amazed but quite scared by their recruit, who had since completely chopped off the Growlithe’s head, put it in his bag, and wiped off his scythe on her fur. After all, he did need a brain. Why waste one with only minimal flaws? The two exchanged glances before rushing up to the next floor. Whether by luck or chance, the sixth floor was fairly uneventful. Vertigo theorized that the Growlithe on the previous one had scared them all away, but as it was also fairly short, he hadn’t even finished giving his idea of exactly how this had happened before they were up and out. “…And so it was probably a combination of her yelling, the sounds of our battle and the smoke that caused the floor to –“ Before Vertigo could finish, he tripped over a rock from which small snoring sounds could be heard if one listened closely. But as he tripped, the sound stopped, and it opened up to reveal itself to be a Geodude. “Aw, man, what’d you wake me up for?” he whined, flailing slightly before tossing medium-sized rocks at the three. “Um…what the heck?” Vertigo asked. “Sorry I tripped on you, but this is – ouch! – uncalled for!” he said, eyes narrowing as he lashed out with a long Vine Whip, wrapping around the Geodude and squeezing until the rock Pokemon fainted. “…That caused the floor to have no Pokemon,” he finished, continuing on as the Good Doctor tried to find any useful body parts but failed. There just wasn’t much good in rock for his experiments. As they entered the eighth floor, Zen looked around and saw a small Magby running around, yelling and throwing a tantrum. “Hey, Vert, what’s up with him?” he whispered, his voice echoing around the chamber, and the fire Pokemon heard him. “Mah sister jus’ destroyed mah fav’rite action figure, that’s what’s up wit’ me!” he yelled, holding up a burnt and mangled rag doll. Vertigo cut in. “Um…I’m sorry to tell you this, but that’s a doll, not –“ “NO! It’s an action figure!” the Magby yelled, shooting a Flamethrower at the Bulbasaur, who jumped back as Zen’s Water Gun shot out to meet it, both attacks erupting into steam. “Leave my partner alone!” Zen said, shooting another Water Gun, this time at the Magby, who squealed and ran off, shouting, “I’m getting mah sister! She’s gonna whoop your asses!” The three exchanged tired glances and pressed on. The ninth floor was definitely different; instead of having rooms and tunnels like the others, it was just a giant room, the stairs on the other end, and what looked like a boxing arena was in the middle. As they entered, a huge crowd began to cheer, and a voice boomed over the others, presumably from the Loudred in referee clothing in the ring. “And from the north door, we have our three challengers – Zen the Squirtle, Vertigo the Bulbasaur and some creepy Sableye who nobody wants to mess with – er, the Good Doctor!” The first two looked around in confusion – how did he know their names?! - while the Good Doctor just grinned. If they were being forced to fight, he would hold his own just fine. The voice sounded again as two tough-looking Pokemon entered through another door. “And from the west, the team of defending challengers – Rocky the Graveler and Killer the Houndour!” The crowd cheered even louder as the two sauntered in, showing off their muscles and growling in an attempt to intimidate their confused opponents. It worked for one. “Vert…I don’t think I can do this…” Zen whispered, and Vertigo sighed. “I don’t want to either, but if you want to sit out, you can – I think the Good Doctor and I can take these clowns." The Sableye nodded. “Piece of cake,” he said, already walking forward, with Vertigo following close behind. They both hopped into the ring easily, Zen settling in on a spectator seat as the defending fighters entered too. “Bring it on, little weed,” growled the Houndour, but the Good Doctor hissed, “I think you’ll be fighting me,” before starting a Fake Out, swiping his scythe toward the Houndour’s neck. His opponent flinched and the Good Doctor used the time to use Nasty Plot, plotting his attack strategy, and then he launched into a Faint Attack, disappearing and reappearing behind the Houndour, quickly slashing with his scythe. The Houndour roared, catching the Good Doctor in a Fire Blast, but he quickly used Recover, slashing more and ending his opponent. Vertigo stared in slight horror until the Graveler, who had also been watching, snapped out of it and attacked with a Rock Throw, tossing a boulder at the Bulbasaur and knocking him over. Vertigo got back up, though, closed his eyes, and began to dance, petals filling the air as he got closer and closer to the Graveler, he and the petals twirling so quickly they cut into the rock Pokemon, who jumped back. But Vertigo came back for another attack, and the Graveler, too, fainted. Then he collapsed, disoriented from the spinning, and so only Zen saw the Good Doctor chop off the Houndour’s head, legs, and tail, dumping the torso into his bag. The referee announced, “The winners are the newcomers, Vertigo and the Good Doctor!” “Thanks,” Vertigo said, dizzily accepting a medal. “And now for your next opponents!” A door opened and more Pokemon walked in. “Aw, heck no!” Zen said, grabbing both his partners and running to and up the stairs. The crowd roared as they left. Still slightly dizzy, Vertigo made for what looked like a pretty garden in order to recuperate while the Good Doctor rinsed his scythe in an underwater stream. Zen, however, saw a little house nearby and went closer to it when he noticed a very old Numel in a rocking chair on the front porch. Surprised, the elderly man waved his cane, shouting, “Damned kids! Get off’a my lawn!” He jumped off his chair with surprising agility, chasing Zen (who was again screaming) and whacking him with the cane several times before the Squirtle made it off. Turning to go back, the Numel then noticed Vertigo. “Another one! GET OFF’A MAH LAWN!” he yelled, shooting a Flamethrower at the Bulbasaur, who squealed, running off too. The Good Doctor handed him an apple, which he ate to regain strength, while Zen squared off with the old man. “Don’t mess with us!” he shouted, jumping forward and catching the Numel in a Bite before shooting a Water Gun at point-blank range. The surprised and furious look on the Numel’s face left as he fainted, and the Good Doctor didn’t even consider taking parts from him as they left. In the eleventh and twelfth floors, they noticed, once again, a distinct lack of Pokemon who wanted to fight. Most here looked like they were just trying to get through life without trouble, and they did see several suspicious-looking ones, but they didn’t bother the three, just looked at them and grinned. This scared Zen and Vertigo, who both knew it was because of the Good Doctor nobody was bothering them. Finally they got to the floor where their client was located, floor 13, an ominous coincidence which nobody felt the need to voice. As they stepped up, they instantly saw the Cyndaquil, draped with gold bling and a backwards baseball cap. “’Ey, boss! The rescuers’re here!” he called, before looking at the three and chuckling as a Charmander entered, wearing her own bling, tacky rings and baseball cap. The little Magby from before flanked her, grinning, as well as a Houndour. The Charmander spoke. “’Ey, look who it is, three little rescuers.” She grinned, showing off several gold teeth. “We know yer here for my homedog Cyndy. You ain’t going nowhere, chicos. This’s where it all ends fer you,” she said, snapping her fingers, and her three lackeys surrounded them – the Cyndaquil, Magby and Houndour. “But…we were supposed to rescue you! You were lost!” Vertigo said, growling. The Cyndaquil just laughed. “I was lost, but you took too long and I met my homies here,” he said, grinning cockily. “An’ now we’re gonna take you out!” With that he shot an Ember at Vertigo, who jumped back and then ran forward, tackling his opponent with a Take Down before sending a Poisonpowder directly into the Cyndaquil’s eyes. “Aaw! s**t, man, get this crazy thing offa me!” he yelled struggling, his eyes burning. The Magby ran to help his buddy, but flinched when the Good Doctor appeared right in front of him with Astonish. The Sableye then neatly knocked him out by whacking the back of his head with the flat of his blade. Meanwhile, Zen and the Houndour were dueling, firing off simultaneous attacks that canceled each other out; it was difficult to get any attack through, but quickly, Zen saw his chance to use Withdraw, pulling into his shell, and then Rapid Spinning his way over to the Houndour where he emerged, shooting off a Water Gun before chomping down on his opponent’s tail. “Effing A!” the Houndour yelled, smashing Zen into a wall, where he slid down woozily. The Good Doctor, turning around, saw Zen’s problem, and leapt forward , using Shadow Sneak to attack from behind, knocking out the Houndour as well. Now the only enemy left was the Cyndaquil, and Vertigo was doing a great job of dodging his attacks as they rolled on the floor, exchanging blows. But it had gone on too long, even for the Charmander, who had been watching the battle. She jumped down from the vantage point she’d retreated to, and with one Flamethrower effectively knocked out Vertigo, pulling out the Cyndaquil, who wasn’t in too good shape himself. “You bitches don’t mess wit me! I’m not the kinda chica you can push around!” she roared, lunging forward to deliver a bitchslap to Zen’s face. He whined, jumping back, and she laughed. “Shaniqua is comin’ to town, baby!” She began to lash out, chasing Zen, and the Good Doctor understood – she was using Outrage, and he had better go help the stupid kid. Disappearing, he reappeared behind her, using his real arm to catch her in a headlock, allowing Zen to escape, where he shot a Water Gun at the Cyndaquil, who fainted. “Stay away from my team,” the Good Doctor hissed, attacking her with Fury Swipes, leaving a network of small cuts. She turned around, furious, and launched a Flamethrower; the Good Doctor laughed, showing it didn’t hurt him much, and used Recover before attacking with a Shadow Sneak. And although Shaniqua acted though, she was just a kid; she couldn’t stand up to the constant attacking and fainted as well.
The Good Doctor sighed, tucking Vertigo and the Cyndaquil under his arm and heading over to Zen, the four teleporting out.

ScriftA rather impatient Yanmega was waiting for the Team to return. Darting through the air at random she finally lighted down in front of the group, wings still quivering. "Looks like you did that job. Good. Here's the rewards." Dropping a small bag with the PD and Big Apple in front of the group, she almost tok off but stopped herself long enough to mention the recruits. "Oh yeah, you got a Magby, Charmander, and Geodude waitin' on ya. Remember, you can only pick one." And without further ado she sped off back towards the main palace.

Zen & Vertigo & the Good Doctor & Shaniqua
Zen took the PD and Big Apple, smiling. "Thank you!" he said, looking at the three recruits; Shaniqua, her little brother, and some random Geodude. Shaniqua grinned. "Hey, Squirty," she said, giving him a nickname. "My little homie here ain't got no idea what kinda work there is to do in a place like this, and nobody give a rip about him," she pointed to the Geodude, who frowned, "So there's only one chica to pick, y'know?" She winked, and Zen facepalmed. "Sure, you can join, I guess, but don't make trouble, okay?" he said, the Charmander grinning. "Don't ya be worrying 'bout that! I won't make any trouble!" she said. "Now, you'd best be showin' me these rooms of yers!" Zen sighed, leading, with Shani following. The Good Doctor, still holding Vertigo, dropped him off on his bed to recover before he went to his laboratory with his bag, ready to do some mad scientist-y stuff.

Atra yawned as Sherman looked over at the bulletin board nervously. Chase was up on his hind legs, reaching for various pieces of paper. "Why are we doing this again?" Atra yawned again as Chase pulled a piece of paper down and read it. The Vulpix turned back to look at his Captain, and eyebrow raised. "An exploration Team is required to take missions to continue gaining the benefits of the guild. The food, lodging, and medical care isn't completely free you know." The Vulpix pointed out. Atra shrugged. Chase turned to scour the board again to see if there was a mission better suited for them when he spotted another section of the bulletin. Missions from other Guilds. Interested, Chase pinned the mission he was holding back up and bounded over to it, tearing off the only mission there. He read through it, and nodded, trotting back to his Captain and Co-Captain with the sheet in his mouth. He sat down in front of them and set the paper down to let them read it. Atra glanced at it, frowning. "Some kid got lost in a volcano?" Atra growled, an edge to his voice. Sherman instantly looked away, fidgeting. Chase knew what both of them were thinking; Molly. "It says Matthew was seen near the Volcano. I doubt he would have gone into the Molten Caverns..." Chase started, but his voice trailed off. The look on Atra's face was one he'd never seen before. "Let's go. If I find that this idiot actually went into the caverns, I am going to thrash that little bugger so hard." Atra growled, snatching up the paper. "C'mon."Sherman stared at Atra and then at Chase, his ears-fins flat against his head. He didn't seem eager for this mission. "Are you OK Sherman?" Chase asked, walking up to the small Salamence. Sherman shook his head. "I...I hate that place." The Dragon type whined, pawing at the ground nervously. "Don't worry, there's little chance we'll go into the Volcano. Fire affects you much less than other Pokemon; you'll be fine."Sherman didn't seem so sure, but he started after Atra anyways. --- It was a long walk, with Atra grumbling the entire way. Sherman still wasn't confident enough in his ability to fly to carry Atra and Chase, especially with his diminutive size, so they had to head to the mountain on foot. "So Atra, do you know where we start looking for Matthew?" Chase asked as he hopped on top of a jagged rock, staring up at the mountainside above them. It was a long way to the top. "How should I know?" Atra snapped, glancing around at the terrain. It was a large boulder field, creating a mosaic of colour. The rock was mostly black, with specks of red, covered in yellow lichen. Large hardy bushes of yellow or green dotted some areas where soil had managed to accumulate over the years. This jagged boulder-field continued up the steaming mountain. Chase flattened his fin-ears against his head, turning to stare at Atra, looking more than just a little annoyed. "You were the one that just ran off. We could have at least found out exactly where he was last seen and how long it's been. The mission sheet wasn't that detailed." Chase scolded, frowning. He looked back up at the empty-looking volcano. "I guess the best way to start would be to ask around if anyone's seen a Buneary around here." Chase offered, hopping from his rock to the next one. "Matthew's description says he's a normal brown Buneary with a rather long bushy tail."Behind them Sherman scrambled clumsily up a rock, his claws leaving furrows in the boulder as he finally perched on top of the rock that was much too small for him. He balanced precariously with his four paws squashed together. Atra slowly walked up a gently inclined slope on the side of a very large boulder, working his paws between the solidified folds of long-ago lava. "Oh great, I hate talking to wild Pokemon." Atra muttered. "C'mon then, let's find someone and figure out where Matthew is."Atra hopped to the next rock, and Chase parallelled his route. Sherman took flight moments before he could slip, fall, and crack his head open on the rocks. He followed clumsily behind in the air as the two more agile fire types worked their way through the difficult terrain. --- "Of course I saw the damned kid!" A rather angry Graveler roared. Sherman cringed at the volume of its voice, and Chase took a cautious step backwards but Atra held his ground. "How long ago, and where, may we ask?" Atra asked, doing his best not to sound a bit to condescending. He didn't see the rock-type as all that intelligent. "And why ya wanna know?" The Graveler demanded, raising its two large hands threateningly. He cringed, taking a step back as several sharp, magical leaves embedded themselves easily through his rocky armour. "Because we're looking for the damned kid dimwit." Atra growled. "Now tell us already, or I'll beat it out of you."Chase stared at his captain in alarm even as the enraged rock-type roared and charged forward at the Flareon. Atra was unconcerned, and waited for the Graveler to get near before jumping into the air, his bushy tail glowing and then solidifying as he spun, and landed solidly on the rock-type's other side. Chase jumped out of the way of the Graveler, a large gouge visible on its back where Atra's Iron Tail had struck. The rock type turned, just in time to see the Flareon standing firmly on all four feet, flames streaming out of his mouth towards him. He was going to start laughing -even he knew that he was resistant against fire, which was why the other Pokemon of this area never bothered him- but then he stopped when he realized that it really FREAKING HURT. It was only then that he saw the rock that encompassed him glowing red hot, then yellow, and white, until it started to drip off of him. He only watched stupidly, eyes wide, as this continued. Fun fact: Flareons can breath fire up to a thousand six hundred Celsius hot. Most rocks melt at around a thousand two hundred. Atra closed his mouth, stopping the stream of fire as he examined the results of his work. The Graveler still retained much of its shape, but its outer layer had melted, flowing off of it. It was starting to resolidify, melding it to the rock beneath it. It was obviously unconscious. "Atra! What the hell!?" Chase growled, bounding to the Flareon's side. "What was that for!?"Atra shrugged; he didn't have an answer. The idea of this mission was filling him with an odd, volatile mix of emotions. This area, this mountain, made his heart twist with grief for inevitably his mind always returns to the thought of his dear friend Molly, who had perished here despite his efforts to save her. And the idea of this Buneary being in a similar position...it infuriated him. He was on edge, angry, and that had driven him to such violence against the Graveler. "He'll live, c'mon." Atra mumbled, hopping from his rock. "We know he's seen a Buneary and who else could it be?"Chase looked over to Sherman, who shied away from the solidifying lump of rock Pokemon. He thought Atra was scary when he was angry back when he was an eevee... Sherman turned to leap into the air, but tripped as what he thought was a solidly stable boulder rolled from under his feet. The Salamence came down heavily, the bottom of his jaw slamming hard against the edge of a rock, tearing a gash. "Owwwwww." He whined, eyes watering from the pain. Chase bounded to his side in concern. "Are you alright Sherman?" The Vulpix asked, and then turned when the rock the Salamence tripped on began to move. Two arms spread to either side of it, and a face was now visible. It was a Geodude, and he looked terrified. Geez, I wonder why. Atra trotted over as well, glaring at the Geodude until it started wailing and turned to run. The Flareon jumped on top of it though, pinning it down with both his front paws. "Shut up! Do you know where the Buneary is!?" Atra growled. "Up mountain, up mountain! Cave in moss patch! Then ran up to Houndour territory!" It squealed in terror. "When was this?" Atra demanded. "Morning! Morning!"Atra turned to stare up at the mountainside. "Sherman, go scan the area above us. See if you can find this moss patch." Atra told the Salamence. Sherman got up to his feet, whining at the pain across his jaw. But at a glare from Atra, he jumped into the air, his tail nearly swatting Chase off his perch. The Vulpix watched the Salamence fly off, and then turned to Atra, his fangs bared and growling. "What is wrong with you today?" Chase growled, obviously not happy with his captain's behaviour. "What? It wasn't anything serious, Sherman doesn't need to whine about it." Atra shot back, not getting what Chase was angry at. The Vulpix stared at the Flareon, muttered something, and turned. "I'm going.""What?"The Vulpix walked off in the direction of the mountaintop, leaving Atra behind. The Flareon shoved the Geodude down the slope, and quickly followed. The two fire types refused to talk to either other as they walked side-by-side, jumping from one rock to another. Sherman flew down only a little while later. "There's a large flat area up there covered in thick moss." He reported nervously, pointing up the mountain. "It's not that far off."The two fire types nodded, and continued on wordlessly. Sherman stared at them, trying to figure out what had happened, but really couldn't think of anything. Unwilling to ask, he jumped back into the air, hovering above them as they went. The ground levelled off and the boulders became less numerous. Before them spread a large plain, thickly covered with green moss. With every step Atra's entire paw would sink beneath the vegetation, where it would promptly begin to smoke as the heat from his fur burned it. Through the moss patch ran a small stream, the reason the moss grows so abundantly here. It was steaming an acrid odour, and Atra did his best not to breathe much of it in. It smelled of rotten eggs and made him feel like he was going to throw up. "I don't like this smell." Sherman whined, wrinkling his nose in disgust. "Shush. We'll be out of this soon enough." Atra snapped at the Salamence. Sherman fell quiet. They worked their way across the moss bed, Atra leaving behind a trail of smoking black moss. Sherman flew them over the river, nearly dropping Atra into the water ( "You clumsy idiot!" Atra screamed, hanging onto Sherman's neck desperately as he tried to get the rest of him back onto the Salamence. "GWAHHHH" Sherman yelled, eyes closed tightly in fear as he shot forward, Chase scrambling to get out of the way on the opposite shore.) and they continued forward. Away from the waters of the stream the moss bed died down, though the plain did not end. Atra was thankful for this, because navigating the sharp pointy rocks was tiring. They encountered the body not long after. Chase spotted it first, a solid block of ice with a paw sticking out. The Vulpix walked over to it, trying to see through the ice and noting the bone around the paw. It was a houndour. "...Atra, you have to come see this." Chase said, signalling his leader over. Ice here on the hot steaming volcano...encasing a fire type no less. It has only started to melt, the surface wet and slippery when Chase wiped his paw across it. It hissed from the heat of his body. Atra grumbled but came over, eyes widening when he saw the body. "...what could have done this?" He asked, walking up to the block of ice. Chase shrugged. "Whatever it is, we best be careful. Anything that can freeze a fire type solid in a place like this is dangerous. Sherman especially, you should watch youself." The Vulpix noted. He jumped onto the block of ice, then hopped to the next boulder, noticing blasts of ice still clinging to some surfaces. "I...I don't like this. Let's stay away." Sherman noted nervously, staring at the ice. He hates the cold and hates ice, something that comes with being a flying-dragon. Atra was still examining the ice, pressing a paw to the hard solid. It hissed loudly, steaming and melting, but not by much. "This was an extremely strong ice attack..." Atra whispered. He had brought his body temperature up, and if it was any normal ice, he would be able to push his paw through it like a knife through butter. "Atra...?""Yeah, yeah, coming. Well, we know we're in the Houndour territory-." he was cut off by the sound of roaring and growling and general sounds of battle. "Atra!" Sherman cried, and the Flareon leaped onto the large boulder Chase was perched on. In the distance a large group of Houndour and Houndoom were chasing a small figure that was jumping in a zig-zag pattern...throwing ice-beams behind him. "...is...is that a..." Atra started, eyes wide and jaws agape. Chse blinked in confusion, watching as the small figure's attack hit a Houndoom straight on and encompassed it in a large chunk of ice. Matthew "It is. It's a Buneary." Chase confirmed. Sherman looked down from where he was hovering. "Er...are bunearies ice type?" He asked. Both Atra and Chase stared at him like he was an idiot. "No, they're normal-type. I'm going to assume this here is our missing Matthew, and we should go get him. We don't know how well he'll fare against the pack as time goes on, c'mon." Chase leaped from his perch and ran along the flat ground, hopping up and over boulders rather than going around. Atra hesitated only a moment before following, hating the idea of following Chase's orders. Sherman looked at the battle nervously, not exactly keen on joining in. The Buneary looked surprised to see Atra and Sherman, shooting a blue jagged line of energy at them. "Whoa!" Atra dodged to the side, could feel the cold numbness radiating from the attack. Holy Arceus it was powerful if he could actually feel it from such a distance. "Calm down Matthew! We're here to help!" Chase yelled, and the Buneary looked at them curiously, obviously recognizing his name but not them. With a shrug, he turned and shot another ice-beam at the very very angry-looking Houndours and Houndooms. In that moment, Atra saw something swinging on the Buneary's neck. It was a small amulet with a blue shard charm. Atra's Earth plate, strapped to his back, pulsed slightly with power. Ah geez. Was that a...was that the...? Oh Arceus it is. That explains why the Buneary was so damned powerful. He had the icicle Plate! This kid had the one plate Atra wanted the most! "Where did you get that!?" Atra blurted, pointing at the amulet, only to be rammed into by a houndour. Atra staggered, and then turned on the Houndour angrily. "Oh, you are going to regret that!" Atra roared, and the sky suddenly darkened over them. Clouds gathered, and within seconds a hard rain was pouring down over the battlefield. Chase cried out in alarm, recoiling from the water, but Atra was unphased. His body temperature rose, and the rain evaporated before getting anywhere near his fur. The Houndour and Houndoom however, howled as the rain hit their fur. The Flareon bounded over to the Buneary, snatching the amulet off his neck with a sharp tug. "Borrowing this!" He cried, grasping the amulet tightly as it began to transform, shaping into something larger, flatter, until it finally took the shape of a large rectangular plate. Atra kept the connection to Arceus shut, but used the power of the plate itself, drawing on it for his next attack. "WHAT THE HELL!?"Atra yelped as something tackled him off the plate, just as he triggered the spell. The rain coming down hardened, solidified and froze into hundreds, thousands of little sharp pieces of ice. They struck the Houndour and Houndoom, embedding themselves into their fur and flesh. Some fell as the ice struck vital areas, but most were well enough to run away in terror. Atra saw none of this as he was wrestling a very angry Buneary half his size. He managed to pin the normal type down with both paws, his fur flaring with heat. Matthew winced; Atra's paws burned. "Calm down kid. What was that for!?" Atra snarled. "The Plate is mine!" The Buneary growled in response. Atra growled, bringing his face closer to Matthew's, showing his sharp teeth. "Look, the Ice Guild sent us. Now we're going to take you back-" A small but powerful fist connected with Atra's face. The Flareon reeled backwards in pain, and the Buneary scrambled to his feet, grabbing the plate. It was too large for him to carry effectively and he doesn't seem to know how to change its shape, so he hopped along dragging it with him as fast as he could. Chase stopped him, firing a confusing psychic blast that stopped Matthew in his tracks. The Buneary staggered in place, clutching on to the Icicle Plate as if terrified to lose it. With a growl, Atra got to his feet and staggered over to the Buneary, smacking the normal-type hard. Matthew fell, catching himself just before his head hit the ground. That seemed to snap him out of his confusion. "What the big deal!?" Atra yelled. "The Icicle Plate is rightfully mine! You can't take it from me!""Kid, calm down, we're not going to take the plate." Chase reassured the Buneary, walking over to them. "Atra was just using it for an attack. Your guild is worried about you, we're just bringing you back." Matthew looked up at Chase in confusion, realization dawning on his face. "They don't know the Plate's gone yet?" He asked. Atra looked over to Chase and then back to Matthew. "You stole the plate?""I did not steal it! It belongs to me!" The Buneary growled. Sherman landed beside them, looking at the Buneary. "Um...what's going on?" He asked, not entirely sure what this was all about. "The Buneary we were told went missing actually ran away after he stole something." Atra summed up, ignoring Matthew's protests. The Flareon stared back at the Buneary, his eyes lingering on the plate. "What will it take for you to part with the Plate?" Atra asked. Mattew stared at him incredulously. "No, I'm lot leaving it. It was my father's." Matthew growled. Chase sighed. "Can you please start at the beginning? Let's figure out what really happened so we can resolve this." Chase suggested, sitting down in front of Matthew. The Buneary crossed his arms. "And why do I need to explain myself?""We can help you." Atra replied. "I want that plate. At least access to it. We can hide you if they're looking for you."The Buneary thought it over for a moment. "...Tch, fine. My father joined a team in the Ice Guild you see? The Icicle plate has been passed down his family for several generations. After he got killed on a mission the Team took possession of the plate and refused to give it to me and my mother. I joined the guild a year ago, and I finally managed to get the Plate back."Atra dug out his explorer's badge. "We'll tell them we found your dead body then. You can lie low in our team for a while, take a new name, whatever. On the condition that the Plate stays within the Team."The Buneary thought this over for a moment, and then shook his head. "Fine. I don't suppose you'll let me go anyways? Why do you want that Plate so badly anyways?"Atra activated the badge, and they appeared back in Team azalea's room. "Because that plate actually rightfully belongs to me."

Once reporting back in to the Ice Guild, Team Azalea met with the third in command there. "So, he's dead? Shame." Delilah went on without much emotion. The Zangoose warrior gave a halfhearted shrug and handed over a small bag to the Flareon. "We were going to ask you to recruit him and get him out of our hair, but since he's dead you just get this." Inside the bag was a Ice Fang TM and 5000PD.

Mission Log, Night One Just half a day in and we’re already in a bad place. I can’t say I blame any one of the group for it, but nevertheless, getting out would be advisable in the long term. I can’t foresee us surviving for long.
Status Report: Myself – Minor scrapes, no major injuries. Cesia – A sprained ankle, multiple small lacerations to the side. Polona – No injuries. However, she has been in a state of constant terror since our arrival. I fear that we made the wrong decision by bringing her.
Let me state the events of the day.
It was around noon when Cesia decided we should take a mission. I was reluctant at first until I realized that the best way to regain respect was to do missions and, more importantly, have those missions be dangerous ones that others would not wish to do. This in mind, I consented to take one. The one she chose, though, well...I must say that all the question marks are somewhat intimidating, they could easily be things we'd rather not have. But Cesia seemed very excited to be out and able to hunt, and Polona was worked up, so I didn't protest and we left.
A small band of travelers - two great fire Pokemon, a Houndoom and Charizard, and a small Oddish perched on the Houndoom's back and the Charizard in the air below the others - steadily worked to climb the great volcano, following the road not taken in their efforts to be unimpeded.
The initial journey was quite easy and by all accounts a good hike. Polona avoided any walking as she sat on Cesia's back, and Cesia herself was in a quite good mood and let her. The t
