This was so awesome, I tell ya. I mean, you can have an anti-Twilight argument where nobody can respond and you don't even have to put the effort into arguing because someone else does it for you!
On Monday my religion class started talking about sexual relationships. After class, I stayed with the teacher and told her about how girls get into such stupid relationships, and I've been highly aware of domestic abuse and sexism since I read Twilight. We discussed it for a few minutes, and I left.
But today in class, I guess I deceived her a little when I struck a weak point in Twilight. We were talking about "teen pregnancy." So I asked her: If a girl gets married when she's still a teenager and has a baby, does that still count as teen pregnancy? So she went on to discuss the story we read Sophomore year about the teenagers who became parents. And she said that legally, eighteen is adult.
So I said, "Well, I was wondering, because... There's this story, it's hypothetical... where this girl meets her "dream guy" and he sweeps her off her feet. A few months later, when she's eighteen, they get married and have a baby... And she says it's true love." She immediately pointed out the flaws in the relationship. She said that the relationship was superficial and referred to the last chapter on love, and how infatuation (swept her off her feet) can not run a full relationship. Someone on the other side of the classroom said, "Head over heels." She also said that since she's so young, she probably doesn't know that much, and it was stupid of her to make that kind of commitment. She also said that having the baby was probably a cry for love; she wanted to be married so she could have a baby to love and to love her.
It was awesome. I'm sure a few people who know my Twilight arguments picked up on it and got pissed. But it was very enlightening, and at the time what I felt was, "I need to know this and ask it discreetly enough so nobody kills me."
Discuss.

I admire your stealthy skills. Nice way to subliminally point out the flaws of Twilight.
It really seems though that as long as you don't say 'Twilight' people will agree on the unhealthy relationships and abuse being dangerous mentally and physically and also what they are. But when you actually mention it arguments and retaliation gets thrown at your face even when you provide evidence.
At least your teachers all tend to agree with you on it.
This was religion class?

TOTALLY true. So damn true I couldn't have said it better. And yes, it was religion. Also called "Christian Lifestyles."
