There is a freeware game called Cave story, it shares many aspects with Metroid and Super Metroid. If anyone has heard of it please reply.

It's a delightful mix of platforming and shooting the holy hell out of everything. A good example of Metroidvania.
It's the kind of game that makes me shout...

Its an indie Freeware, it was released by one man who made the game by himself. Its a really good example that classic sidescrolling isn't dead.

I played it but not for long. It was enjoyable, cute, easy to play... But it didn't keep my interest. Something about it was unappealing to me. Yet I have a friend who absolutely loves Cave Story. I guess it's all about preference.
