M. Night Shyamalan went to the creators of Avatar and asked if he could make the live action movie. They obliged. What else would it be about? It's about Book 1 (at least) of the series.
Shitty director choice, shitty actor choices, and it'll probably be a shitty adaption all around. I'm willing to bet that he somehow manages to ruin the story.

I read that Bryke are writers and producers for the movie.
I don't think they had shitty actor choices at all. :s
I think that they couldn't have chosen anyone better for Aang, and I think that the guy who plays Zuko was a pretty good choice. I think the girl who plays Katara is gorgeous, and honestly, I don't give a damn that they're not tan. xd
Mm, well we'll see how it goes.
