Here, you can tell what happens from day to day in band. It's a general band discussion, too.

One lesson I have learned from band this year:
NEVER give a semi- retarded black kid a baritone.
He will destroy the way low brass sounds.

Yesterday was HORRIBLE! We were playing Beyond the Higher Skies and my BD gets PISSED at all the brass. HE MADE US STOP PLAYING!!!

And today, he wasn't here. We had a ball in the Band hall.

So my SM started getting mad at me today because nobody showed up for pit practice today because our BD never tells us when we're supposed to practice...

It made me sad

So... Who can honestly say that their French Horn section is too LOUD? We can. I sit behind them and I can't hear anything. My BD, today, actually had to tell them to play softer. I was like "OMG. Seriously?" Lol. Well, then he cracked a joke about everyone from my middle school being related and then I called him bald. It's a normality. confused

So yesterday, we had our annual hour and a half exam rehearsal. We were going great for the first two tunes we worked on (about an hour). Then our BD goes and tells us about some guy he heard at a convention who said that teenagers have an attention span of about 15-30 minutes. The next thing the band does: get bored and stop caring. Thus, I find yet another example of the strong power of words as opposed to music in band.

Today during fundamentals we have this thing that each section goes after some other sections and plays their F. so today, in our french horn section there was only one guy playing because others had private lesson and 1 was sick. so when we discussed which section played well..mr. chavis was like: our french horns sounded great today! i wonder why...*looks at the french horn section* because it is Micheal and the horns!

And i hate when mr.sealy(other bd) creeps behind me too see us play. it scared the crap out of me!

Word of advice:
Never let a middle school BD conduct a high school band. They usually can't conduct Six Eight tempos. And the facial expressions, ugh.

I found out one thing this weekend:

10 hour regionals rehearsals are a major headache. And almost everyone falls asleep...

So in regionals I was sitting next to a kid from my sister's school and one from the band with the scary clarinet section. well, kid from clarinet school shouldn't have made it to regionals. seriously. He couldn't play worth anything! He couldn't count. There was a point where us third clarinets were resting for 15 measures. He came in after the first and didn't stop until he reached the end before everyone else. And that was during our concert! It was sooo annoying!

Failure to practice for a test in band will result in major embarassment. If anyone's had the 14 weeks to a better band senoir high edition books than you know what my problem was. It was exercise four. I can't do drags and I'm not going to attempt the rolls. and our nine weeks exam is 4 and 5. Grace notes and all. it's a 100 or a 0. I screwed. and it's two weeks from friday!

What I have learned this week: 10 hour regioanls + 6:30 A.M marching rehearsal for a parade is exhausting.
Waking up for a 7th day at 6:30 for said parad eis exhaisting.
3 mile parade in 100 degree heat is exhausting.
Put this together, and you get me half dead, taking a 5 hour nap, and massaging my feet because I have to walk on tiptoes thanks to ankle blisters from rollstepping for an hour on a hard, needs to be repaved street, right behind horses because it was a horse and band only parade. It was today by the way.

It was the rodeo parade. Here, we have two days off for a thing called rodeo break. The parade is on thursday every year, and my band marches in it. There are no electronic floats. if you want to be in it, you ahve to be in a horsedrawn carriage on a horse or on foot. Tht means a lot of horse poo. It was funny because my front-to-back line in the parade block just happened to be on the edge of the middle. One of the three in my side-to-side line was right in the middle, where all the poo was, and the other was half on the poo. What we did have to go through my line was able to unnoticeably dodge because it was so little. The senior clarinetist in my side-to-side line seemed kind of grossed out becuase of all of it she had to step through. Hahahha, that is why you don't talk about me behind my back! twisted
The water-people kept squirting me in the face on accidnet...

I'm having a lack of band in my life, because I don't play in a concert band, just marching so spring is a really quiet time (until we start our indoor line next year, whoo!).

Last time I was at band was last weekend when we performed at the women's Pitt basketball game for their breast cancer event. We wore all pink and we were pretty fabulous.
