Gaia's always been filled with smart mouthed teens and theres really no place to go to on here to avoid them. So I retreat here when the kids get on my nerves out there. I always said, Gaia's like a bad night of babysitting gone horribly wrong. You just want to go home and forget it ever happened. The Geezers Guild gives me a place to come to and be with those of like mind. Of course, theres nothing wrong with curling up with a good book now and then too. 3nodding

I know what you mean, sometimes you just wanna post your thoughts on threads, voice out an opinion but all you find are "post your pics here", "prommies only", "my teacher hates me", "scene vs emo"... I just barely left that age but I'm working and living on my own and I'm having to confront a whole batch of new things. It's like I really don't care for those kind of topics anymore, or at least not as many all the time. That's why I came here, try to find wisdom and experience from people who have already gone through (and survived) what I'm going through. Think of it like this: one of these day, those kids will be in our shoes asking the same questions we are. One day we all have to grow up. Until then, the guild has each other, I'm new here and I'm liking it. I love a good book too, a movie, or just chilling at my place.

Mrs Beeker I know I'm too young to most of you, but I feel too old to most of them out there. Do you ever feel that way? I can't post anywhere without some teenager attacking me to make themself feel better, or to just be a pain. I really feel like I should quit Gaia and retreat to the safety of a book. The only pain I'll feel then is at worst a paper cut, or an allergy attack from some dust bunnies. When did I grow up and forget how to handle those teenage quips? Gah! crying
Ummm I 'm not sure I know what you all are experiencing! I haven't had any problems, mainly since no one knows your age unless you reveal it. I see lots of immature, inane comments out there, but not directed toward me per se. As for the brash, know it all attitudes, that will all die out when they are faced with earning their own living like the rest of us! blaugh

I don't leave the guilds that I'm part of all that much to get into the real Gaia world. Usually if your rational about them, they shut up. Guilds are usually a lot better than the regular threads.

after having six kids in the house, and their friends, all between 8 and 18, i'm too exhausted to deal with it. so, i don't. when i come across some brat that is trying to act big because their parents aren't there to sit on them, i have no trouble leaving (with a parting shot, hehe). i have a little trouble with them trying to chat me up. i let them go, giving them every nice turn-off line that i can, until the inevitable question - 'how old are you?' pause for effect. '46'. then wait for their reaction. i admit i enjoy torturing them a little too much, but some of them really deserve it. i didn't start posting my age on my profiles until recently, though. i kept getting too many friend requests from these kids. now, i know most of them just want to brag about the amount of friends that they have, and they usually don't contact me again. but, it makes me feel like a stalker or something. just a little too creepy. so, i post the age. if that doesn't scare them away and they still want to be friends, so be it. if they have a problem with some old woman playing kiddy games, too bad. i'm busy, and they can just go somewhere else. there's always the report button, or laundry to do. i probably won't quit gaia because of that (my 'charming' personality goes where it pleases), but i see what you're saying. what a pain in the a**. don't they have a room to be sent to or something?

I agree with what a lot of others have said.... Gaia isn't the same as when I first joined, now I'm seldom on. Yes, one of the problems was the little kids and wisebutt teenagers, but what REALLY ruined Gaia for me was their CONSTANTLY changing things. WHY didn't they just leave things as is? Last time they changes things it messed up my being able to change my Avi's clothes! Can't do it now! I've tried writing and all, but none of the moderators seem to care. Nothing has ever been done to fix my problem.

I work in grocery retail and every time I get a little punk that tries to give me shitake mushrooms for things, I keep reminding myself that they'll most likely end up with "Would you like fries with that?"

See, thing about Gaia is, it's not far from an actual city. Take me for example hun, I'm 30. I understand that I'm thirty, I've excepted my fate and, hell, I've felt 30 since 15 so I'm used to it. But, as a 30 year old I understand that there's certain places I can not go. I have to look upon the ballpit at McDonalds as some shrine to a civilzation long since gone. I understand that if I go into Discovery Zone I will probably be maced damn near to death. It's the same here. Hope into a town and announce your age. See the reaction it gets you, good lord, especially if you're male, then god help you. My idea, if I may, I think someone, preferably someone who's never properly utilized their home, should offer it up. Take a home, we all donate towards it, and we make it a nice one. (Gaia home, not IRL) Then we post the link to it on the main forums in a sticky thread and, when the mode strikes for it, we can go there instead of town. Just a stray thought I guess.

This is what we do in another (mature) guild I belong to. We all decide on a time and go to one member's house. We then go outside and have snow ball fights or whatever (sounds real mature, lol). Problem is the chat feature does glitch pretty often.

The chat interface in that program is fairly decent. Or at least implement their GOOD chat interface from it into Gaia towns.
