Janenna What are you talking about not being in the episodes? Unless they went back and redubbed the first two seasons she was called Mai in the actual show. It wasn't until the third season that they started calling her Mei.
But I didn't mean to totally de-rail this thread. I just remembered an inconsistency: when Appa was stolen. Considering that Flying Bison had been extinct for about 100 years and then one suddenly shows up with the Avatar it shouldn't have been hard for anyone to figure out that this random Flying Bison that's suddenly getting sold belongs to the Avatar. So how come no one but Suki figured it out? she didnt "Figure it out" she remembered him.

EklyValdur During the invasion on the day of black sun azula was distracting everyone so they couldn't find Ozai, she started running away and Aang yelled how he couldn't get her cause she was too quick, after we learned from a wanted poster that Aang ca run "As fast as the wind" which was also demonstrated during the debut episode for the blue mask, so Aang should not have had any trouble catching up to her. That always bothered me. And since Toph is so great at Earthbending, couldn't she just do this when Azula wasn't moving?(and she wasn't moving all the time, she paused long enough for Toph to do something) Same goes for the Season 2 finale, when Toph and Sokka were captured and put in jail because Azula threatened to kill the King. Toph could have just quickly sucked Azula into the ground.

Toph could have just quickly sucked her Azula into the ground. Because that would have been far too easy. Also the Aang running like the wind. He had to airbend to do so, you remember in the episode that Katara and Sokka get sick in, right? He can't run like that normally. As well, he was trying to hit her with attacks, not simply catch her.

When it comes to what they could have done, there is a very good reason why they didn't do it.
Ever get in a fight with someone and after they leave the room, you think of a great retort to something they said?
That's why. It's called a brain fart. In the heat of the moment, you just can't think clearly. I'm sure the gaang had moments after a battle where they were sitting around and someone slaps their head when they think of something they could have done differently.
~
As for Appa, if you were an animal trader and you found a dodo bird, I think you'd be quicker to find the highest bidder rather then return it to the rightful owner. Greed people. It's all greed.
~
I forget the episode number, but in the episode where they're discussing if Zuko should teach Aang, there's a pack laying on the ground at their feet while they talk. In the over head shot during the same conversation, the pack is gone, but it's magically back when the camera changes angles again at the end of the conversation. Once the conversation is over, Aang starts to walk away in the background, but he freezes frame while everyone in the foreground keeps moving. Not an instance of him standing still. He is a still framed image while everyone else moves. As an animator myself, I fully understand that you work in layers, but surely someone noticed they forgot the rest of Aang's animation in the scene.

Well, just from the experience of seeing a ton of cartoons I can say this: a lot of animators seem to not notice a lot of little mistakes. As an artist myself I've often noticed that a glaring mistake made it past every step of the inking, coloring, shading and finishing touches steps. And when I finally notice this (terribly long leg, misproportioned torso, extra fingers) it would be too much work to go back and fix it. I suppose when that same art is under a time limit that they just don't have the luxury of going back and fixing something.

@The Mei/Mai thing I think on the Nick site they spell it like Mai on the little character profile things but it's not pronounced that way in the show. But has anyone noticed this during the Fire Bending Masters?

On the Mai/Mei topic: It's Mai. Why? Because it is. Yes, according to certain pronunciations that's not right. But does it matter? No. Because it's Mai.
