The first movie was fantastic, plot-wise. But if I am going to go with graphics and drawing style, then definitely the second movie. But the first movie was a huge accomplishment as well, so don't forget about that either.
As for how they were carried out, I would have like the first movie to have more scenes that followed the book more. As for the second movie, it was good on its own, even though the plot line deviated from the original story some what, but all in all they were both amazing movies. But nothing compares to the books. xD

(This is the Dubbed version. I couldn't find the Japanese version with subtitles. However it was originally intended to be in english thats why Kikuchi had bloodlust made in english when they were making the newer movie with Madhouse. Sorry about the pop-up window and the beginning previews. It's right after the commercial preview. And you can just close the popup Advertisement.)

I like Bloodlust a little better than the the original because they give his hand more personality. i like when the serious hero has somewhat of a comedic sidekick.

All in all I'd have to say the original is still my favorite. It's what started my obsession w/ D so it holds the top spot. However, I am disappointed that Regansi wasn't portrayed as a gorgeous young man in the movie as he was in the book. I do like Bloodlust's animation more, it's very clear and the colors are very bold. I also like how freakin' gorgeous D is in Bloodlust... I can watch Bloodlust over and over again for that reason. wink
As for differences between the books and movies, I try not to get too into that. Books are almost always better than the book. Though, I am a little sad that Doris, the blond from the original, didn't remain the raven haired beauty from the book.
Not that there's anything wrong w/ blondes. It's just us black haired girls are sexy too. heart

Personally, I adore them both. Not as much as the books obviously, but I still love them both to pieces.
If I had to choose though... I'd say Bloodlust. Just because it gives me better references for my D cosplay. @_@

byohazrd13 I am decidedly for 'Bloodlust'. They got the main points of the first novel in the first anime, but it didn't quite follow it very well... That, and D and the 'extra' type characters (like the mayor, and Gaouru, and Dr. Ferrirngo) were really the only characters i thought looked like they were described in the book...Ii was angry when I saw Rei-Ginsei in the anime. I'm not saying Bloodlust was exactly like the novel, but they did follow the story a little better, and the characters actually looked they way they should have. And I did like the art in the second one better. However, I still think the ending in the book was better, it was more of a tragedy, and there was no evil Countess scheming against Meyerling and the girl, "Charlotte" in the anime. I would have to say that I very much agree with this statement.

Oh, this is like being asked which of your two children do you love more. Personally, I love them both equally for different reasons. Both have their own personality in sense of drawing style and story, thus each have their charm that captures your heart smile
So I'm not gonna vote for the sake of loving both :p
Also, when it comes to the deviation from the books, eh. I see each movie as a separate interpretation to another artist's work. Like Ghost in the Shell. Different, but still enjoyable smile
