I think that i's dumb to say that you can't go to a prom just because you don't have a date.
But' also if you are just talking with UR friends and one of them has a date wouldn't you feel left out? neutral

It's up to the individual. But I think it's best to bring a date. At least you won;t be alone when all of your friends decide to bring theirs.
However, is it really necessary? If you consider Prom to be a place to make more memories before HS ends, it shouldn't matter, But having a date makes the memories more memorable.
