.:Convert!:.
"The Demon grants you power, if you're a believer."
Kaimi stared at the man with the purple hair and facial piercings. She hadn't meant to get sucked into a conversation with him - she knew he was a member of that weird cult. But... he had wings. Beautiful charcoal black wings, though he had told her he couldn't actually fly due to a heart condition.
"But, it's a Demon." Kaimi ventured hesitantly. Theology wasn't her strong suit, and the theology of a totally alien cult was so far beyond her that she wasn't sure she should even be saying anything.
Malice, the purple haired man, smiled. It was a calculating, manipulative smile. "Thats all titles, lamb. The Worshippers took me in off the streets, yeah? After my family died." (He failed to mention his family was dead because he had murdered them. Gruesomely.) "The Chosen - those angelic bastards - they wont look twice at you if you don't have some social standing. How can that be good? How can letting people fall through the cracks be a good thing? Don't let the titles decieve you." His angle was a practiced one - Malice was an excellent recruiter.
Kaimi chewed on her bottom lip, thinking about this. "I suppose you have a point..." She began, when another voice shouted down the hallway.
"Oi! Malice! You filthy Demon worshipping scum, get away from that kid!"
Both Malice and Kaimi turned to see who was shouting. Kaimi's face litl up at the sight of Cassius, but Malice's turned dark and cloudy. He muttered something under his breath and turned, stalking off in the other direction without even a goodbye.
"Was that creep bothering you?" Cassius' purple eyes were lit with angry fire.
"Not exactly. He was telling me about his religion." She was suprised the fox-boy was even talking to her. He always seemed so aloof and so, so angry.
"Religion." Cassius snorted. "They're no religion. D'you know what happens if you join them?" He didn't wait for any acknowledgement from Kaimi, but continued speaking. "They put their mark on you. It's like a tattoo, but it binds you to their will. Once you're a Worshipper, you have to do what they want all the time. Only way out of it is death."
Kaimi's eyes widened. "Oh."
"Didn't mention that part, did he?" Cassius shook his head. "Those bastards are bad news. You stay away from them, kid." Apparently having done his duty in aiding a damsel in distress, he turned to go.
Kaimi sighed a little. This place was so... weird. She found herself almost wishing she were home again. Except... except in this place was the magic she'd always dreamt about. Faerie courts and people with wings, nevermind the creepy culty ones. It was so beautiful, she didn't know anyone at home that was quite like the sort of people you found here. No, she wasn't ready to leave quite yet. Kaimi tapped the fire-whip she had tucked into her belt. Taking a leaf out of Cassius' book, she'd been spending a lot of time practicing with it. Surely when she got home she's be great at fire-dancing. Maybe even great enough to do it in front of people. Ah, such are the dreams of youth.
In a nearby room, Malice bowed to his pale-haired mistress. "Cassius is causing trouble." He murmurred.
"Cassius is nothing but trouble." Said Tamar, one-sixth of the Demon. "But I'm intrigued about where this girl comes from. Find out."

.:The Spider and the Fly:.
She was enamored of his wings. Really, how could she not be? He was beautiful in a disturbing sort of way, beautiful and feminine with his long silken hair and slender build. Kaimi sighed, then smiled as Malice reached out and brushed a strand of hair back from her face.
"But tell me," he said, "about this Gaia. It must be a lovely place, to create wonders such as you."
Kaimi blushed hotly, unused to such confident attention. Malice played the game of seduction well and Kaimi was innocent enough not to realize it was only a game he was playing. Leeward had been bad. Malice was worse, but she didn't know it yet. "Oh, it's alright I guess. There are a lot of people there. Different sorts of people. Kind of like here, although..."
Malice cocked his head to one side, regarding her. "Although?"
"Although here everything is so... magical. Gaia just seems normal."
"Ah, well, everything seems normal when it's where you come from. And LLAnon is so embroiled with politics..." He shrugged. "I would like to visit this Gaia someday. With you."
The blush which had been starting to fade flared up again. "Oh... I tried to go home, though, and I couldn't." In fact she'd made several attempts at retracing her path through the woods. But all paths led back to the hotel, there was no escaping it. It bothered her a little and it didnt. Flora and Ficus shouted warnings in her head, but somehow they were drowned out by Malice's presence. Or Cassius' or any other resident that was nearby. There was something of the magic of this place that made it easy to forget them. Easy not to listen.
"You can go back if you know the way. I could show you, you know..." His voice was a silken purr and it made her shudder with a sort of unwanted pleasure.
"You could?" She gazed into his eyes, at the odd symbol etched into one of his pupils. It felt rather like falling and the symbol flared to life, catching her attention. Hypnotic.
"Malice!" The voice was cold and harsh and shook Kaimi violently out of her reverie. Cassius stormed into the common room where they had been talking, his tail swishing with irritation.
"Hello, Cassius. You're interrupting us."
"I can see that." Cassius answered wryly. "Hello, Kaimi."
"Hi, Cass." She smoothed her hair out, feeling as if she'd been caught doing something wrong, although she and Malice had only been talking.
"I think you should leave." Cassius said to Malice, barely containing his ire. The kitsune had somehow managed to appoint himself as Kaimi's protector, seeing in her all the innocence of youth and the danger that held here at the hotel. "You're a bad influence." He added.
"I think the lady and I were having a conversation which you are no part of." Malice spat back. Though he kept his voice modulated and pleasant. "Perhaps you ought to let her choose."
Kaimi looked between the two men, consternation building up inside of her. Malice was sweet where Cassius was rough and impolite. But she liked both of them and didn't want to upset either of them. And she couldn't quite figure out what the long-standing feud was about, exactly. And then there was Tamanna - Cassius' shadow. She didn't know what to make of that, either.
"I..." Her voice trailed, uncertain. "We were only talking." She finally said, miserably.
"I see." Cassius turned a hard gaze at her. "Well, I can see where I'm not wanted." And he turned in a huff, ears pricked forward and tail swishing with agitation.
Kaimi stared after him in dismay. "Cassius..." She called, but Malice reached out and caught her under her chin, turning her head to face him.
"Don't worry, my dear." He purred. "He'll get over it. He's a hot tempered one, he is." Seeing the indecision still lurking in her eyes, he sought a distraction. "Would you like to touch my feathers?"
It was too tempting to pass up, and Kaimi was successfully distracted. "Oh! May I really?"
"Yes. But, carefully. They're the most sensitive part of my body." He unfurled one wing, scooting closer so he could draw it around her, surrounding her in a dark, lacy cocoon.
Kaimi felt herself blushing again as she reached out to trace a delicate feather with her finger. She heard Malice inhale sharply and looked at him. There was something dark about his expression, and something of longing there, too.
"Don't stop." He whispered.
She didn't.

.:Time to go home:.
Kaimi woke to the lacy darkness that had become familiar to her by now. Idly she reached out and brushed her fingers over the layers of feathers that blanketed her. The wing tensed, then moved and cold winter sunshine streamed down upon her.
Malice hadn't even woken up. As she sat in bed, she looked down at him with a slightly perplexed frown. He was lovely, that was certain. Like a fallen angel or a dark faery. A slow smile crossed Kaimi's lips as she reached out to tuck a strand of violet hair behind his ear. An eye opened and regarded her silently, then a smile crossed his own lips as Malice fell back asleep.
She liked it this way. When he was awake and talking to her, Kaimi always felt as if her head were packed with styrofoam. Everything seemed a very long way away. But when he was sleeping the world seemed clearer and fresher, and she liked that. Things were different... so different.
Standing, she smoothed out her nightgown and glanced at herself in the mirror. Her eyes shone fever-bright as they admired the mark on her left shoulderblade. She'd only joined the Worshippers a week or so ago. It had made sense... what they did seemed good. Taking in the poor and misunderstood. Malice weaved such beautiful words - he could inspire a block of wood to carve itself into a flute if he wanted to.
Cassius had been furious. Not so much with her as with Malice. Though he'd called her blind, and a fool. It had hurt, but not as much as it would have hurt before she'd been marked as a member. She had been informed that he would have nothing to do with someone involved in that "filthy cult".
"I suppose you can't please everybody." Kaimi murmurred to herself, pulling on a pair of jeans and exchanging her nightgown for a knit sweater. Her flowers bloomed, still fragrant. Nobody answered her. That, perhaps, was the best thing about it all: Her head was mercifully clear of voices. Ficus and Flora hadn't spoken to her in ages. She was alone in her head, and the feeling was wonderful.
"I think..." Kaimi said, turning to the figure on the bed who snored on, blissfully unaware. "That it's time to go home."
