One had to pity Jacen. He was a navy blue bundle of nerves with silver hair revealing his stress--no, the silver hair was natural. The poor elf, and when one took the elf part out of perspective, the poor teenager. He was shaking, quite literally. A Midsummer's ball? He could dance, sure. He could even be considered graceful, when it came to it. Dancing with a girl? Especially one he liked as much as he liked Kaimi? That was another story altogether. What if he messed up? What if he stepped on her toes and she decided she never wanted to see him again? What if--
He dialed her phone number, shaking his head. Kaimi would never do that! That was one of the reasons he had fallen for her so quickly. She had a genuine kindness about her; in fact, in Jacen's opinion, everything about Kaimi was perfect. He was of course, biased, perhaps blinded by love. "Could I speak to Kaimi?" he requested, speaking into the phone.

Kaimi had been pacing her bedroom restlessly for what seemed like days. Weeks, maybe. The world seemed to be crashing down around her ears and the fact that she was a teenaged girl really didn't help. Her obnoxious little sister didn't help either.
She didn't rush for the phone when it rang, but she still ended up being the first one to reach it anyways. Not like anyone would be calling her... Malice had taken off. She didn't even know where he'd gone. Her mom had shat kittens when she'd found out about the tattoo, not to mention the cult thing.
That was, of course, kind of sort of over and done with. Over and done with enough that Kaimi was left confused and tattooed with no direction whatsoever and a social life that was suffering from her extended absence. So it was with a faint flush of pleasure that she answered the phone and discovered the call was for her.
"This is Kaimi." The girl tucked a strand of ridiculously long hair behind her ear. "Whose this?"

"Jacen," the elf said by way of explanation. She hadn't recognized his voice? He hadn't expected that. "I haven't heard from you in a while. How are you?" How to ease himself into asking her to the dance? "Well... There's a dance later this evening and I was wondering if..." No, that wasn't right. How did one ask a girl on a date? It had been so long since their last one he had forgotten how to do it.
"Er... Would you like to go with me? I'll pick you up in a while if you like, we can go to dinner before hand. I know a nice place down in Barton--" He hesitated. "You haven't gotten a new boyfriend while you were away, right?"

"A dance?" A dance? Really? Kaimi couldn't recall ever actually having gone to a dance. Not a real formal one. "I'd love to go." She smiled. "It's good to hear from you, Jacen. I've been... well." Kind of. Not that she needed to go into all that drama.
The boyfriend question made her hesitate. Malice wasn't really a boyfriend. Neither was Cassius. And regardless, neither of them were here on Gaia. "No, I haven't gotten a new boyfriend." Just a new set of troubles she added silently to herself.
Kaimi found herself grinning into the phone. It would be terribly nice to go out on a date. A real date, with dinner and dancing and no stupid drama. "I'd really like to go with you." She added, just in case Jacen hadn't caught her "yes" the first time. "How fancy is it? What should I wear?" She was suddenly in a much better mood, mentally flying through her wardrobe wondering if she had anything nice enough.

Jacen was on cloud nine. He was positive he'd heard her say yes. She wanted to go to the dance with him. She hadn't found any new boyfriends; he still had a chance! And with any luck, he could surprise her with something after the dance. And perhaps she would say yes to that too.
He hoped so.
"I've missed you," he said, nodding into the phone, as if expecting her to be able to see him. He hesitated, then smiled. "Well, the diner's not that fancy," he admited. "Normal clothing would do. But for the ball... I think you'd look nice in a dress," he mused. "Unless you want to wear a suit?"
Really, the poor elf had no idea.
