I won't make a comparison. They are all actually part of a whole, and that includes the Sarah Jane Adventures. The three series are all inextricably entertwined with each other, and I enjoy them all.

I prefer Doctor Who myself. And I'll admit that the second season of Torchwood is actually watchable compared to the first (but honestly that's lowering the bar a LOT).
But I have to say that anyone that can tell me with a straight face that the first season finale of Torchwood wasn't complete hack scripted, ham acted, overly gratuitous garbage, they need their head examined.

[Well, tbh, I thought the second season of Torchwood was poor, at best] [All they did was try and shock the viewers with crappy plot points and then didn't even go all the way with it]
[But, I love the newest season of Doctor Who. I thought the latest episode was a bad idea but, other than that, I think they've been doing a great job : P]

Until series4 started, I had been thinking we were heading into a definite TW > DW. But I'm enjoying series4 so much, I may have to revise that...

Before series 4 I'd say yeah definately... I found series 3 of DW a bit of a letdown.... but OMFG series 4 more twists than you can shake a stick at!!! Catherine Tate Rocked and it's a real shame that she can't ever return.... Rose and Dr 10.5 Like wow!!!! When I saw the regeration begin at the end of the stolen earth I screamed at the telly.... but it's ok now cause we've still got 10/11 the doctors daughter and all those extremely misleading adverts....
DW is #1!!! (S4 spoilers whited... i dont know have you americans seen it yet..)

Action wise:Yes Story wise: NO NO NO NO NO!
I feel that because there is such a large gap of time missing in the DW time frame, it gives a sense of mystery, which makes us want to watch.

while i also didnt like rose, i think its kinda funny when she re-appears, the world falls apart. i like the doctor more because of nostalgia and i like torchwood coz t is different. though if ild pick one of the two, ild pick the doctor. the writers are good, with few exceptions (whoever decided to get rid of donna nobel, i am not pleased.) and i didnt get to see most of the martha jones years. but i did like seeing her in torchwood and kinda hoped they kept her there. now in all actuallity, i like sarah jane a little more than tw. ive always liked sarah jane in the old series and am happy that they finally got her her spin-off.

I think Torchwood gets a little bit too much. I find some of the characters in the beginning to be too "easy" and they so clearly play to the older crowd (which is fine but they play TOO much to them.) I love the show personally and I can't wait for the new season because with a new cast (and Jack who I think has the most potential of any character on DW) I can't see how it won't be amazing. Dr Who just has so much more behind it though and much more versatility. Torchwood is earthbound and that takes away from the novelty of the concept.
(P.S: Gay kissing MAKES the show xp )
