It was just four days after the attack with Avalanche. In Thomas' home, where he was now stationed, it had been a whirlwind of activity. Three days ago, Sir Aquifer had arrived with some telepathic evolveds, Errow and her sister, Tality, and two days, Thomas went from being practically mute and unable to move to being his usual loud-mouthed self and trying to move about even though he really COULDN'T so well anymore. Odjit had really messed up his mind and his ability to function.
Worst of all, Flashcharge had lost the control of his evolved abilities, and so was now stuck with restraining bracelets. He HATED them, and he complained constantly.... And Sir Aquifer agreed to abandon the war efforts to stay and help train him. Perhaps it was only inevitable for the tired man to give in quickly, between Thomas whining and Ruriska whining because Thomas was whining and his wife calling every half hour to whine as well... And then his wife plotting with Thomas to come over and move in for the duration that Lesley WOULD be staying there... Really, the draw of being able to relax awhile and be with his FAMILY was too much. There was the necessary and understood warning that he would leave the moment Bolthor said he was needed, but even Bolthor had pitched in and said Sir Aquifer would stay. Without Avalanche around, it seemed as if the whole African unity was being destroyed. Even Solarduct had disappeared.

So off he went to pick his family up from the airport. . .

"We're here!" Lesley now banged open Thomas' home's door without knocking, "Tom? You around?" He dragged in a suitcase, and following that was a woman and three children each with their own packs. "Thomas! Come meet the monst--Ow! The family." He grinned at Gabriella, who had slapped at his derogatory word. The lady couldn't keep her glare up, her gaze melting into one of pure happiness. Eeee! She had her husband back! At least for the month....
His oldest son - Lee -- soon to be 16 years old, looked around the house with large eyes "Whoa, talk about stepping it up on the social status! Does he REALLY have a game room?"
The middle boy, 11 and a half years, dropped his and his younger sister's stuff on the floor unceremoniously and stared around.
And the youngest, who had just turned 8, flitted around her father -circling him gleefully. "I'm an airplane!" She announced.

Yep. Tom had had tons of fun in being able to be annoying again. Yay! And he'd taken it to his full advantage by whining as much as he could to Lesley, and to Ruri, which in turn made her whine back to Lesley.
Hah! Strike one million for the wheelchair guy! Mwahahaha!
But seriously, Tom was absolutely thrilled to be able to move, talk and express himself again. His first training session had been-- well... it hadn't been pretty, so he resigned himself to wearing those AWFUL bracelets. It didn't mean he liked them.
As a matter of fact, they HURT. Granted, not as much as the collar, but they hurt like hell still the same. But they didn't hurt as much as his powers did. For some reason, for whatever Odjit had done, it had wrecked his body. The paths his power usually took to come out seemed to have been shut, or rerouted, which resulted into a terrible, agonising and burning pain of his powers forcing their way through the uncooperative path.
Heh. Better not think about that. Not right now.
Nope. NOW, Tom was having too much fun having a hug-wrestle match with Ruri. It had started on the couch, but by NOW they had managed to throw the table over and come to a full stop somewhere on the carpet, giggling (Ruri) and snickering (Tom) madly.
Tom pulled Ruri closer and kissed the top of her head. "I ain't letting you leave ever again, Ruri," he told her seriously, then smirked.
He looked up when the troop stormed in and gave Lesley a smug grin. Hey-- he COULDNT get up! He was the disabled one, he had NO CHOICE but to keep a hold on Ruri. Hah! Still-- he did struggle upwards, and lifted a hand in greeting.
"Yo!" he grinned cheerfully, and smiled at Lesley's girl. "The landing strip is over there," he pointed to the couch he and Ruri had just vacated.

It was impossible to win a wrestling match when one was in the throes of an uncontrollable giggling fit. Not that winning was on the agenda anyway. Ruri realized, quite belatedly, that she on her back on the floor. Not a completely unknown position to her, it was just that she couldn’t quite remember when the transition from couch to ground had happened. Oh, that was right, that was after she’d tried to pinch Thomas’ butt and they’d both toppled to the side. Ha.
Poor Lesley. Thomas and Ruri could remain within a metre of each other without one or the other going in for a hug, kiss or grope. Moving in had been the best decision she had made. Too bad Raleigh had opted to stay behind in Hawaii. She really missed his casseroles… and him too of course.
Oh look, Les had returned. Ruri removed her hand from beneath Tom’s top (for the kiddies sake) and half sat up. Luckily the giggles had finally ended but she was still grinning and her face was rather flushed. “Hello.” She gave a wave and then got to her knees, ready to leave FC on the floor for a bit… because well, it would be funny.

"Vahda-vahh-vaahrroom," little eight year old Irene whirled around to the couch, kneeling beside it and then taking little dolls out from somewhere to unload them.
"Thomas, you really shouldn't be---"
"Hello," Gabriella interrupted over Lesley, giving him a nudge and a sideways look as she did, "How are you? You must be Ruriska! Hello, Tom." She dug around in her -- large -- purse as she spoke, and pulled out a bag to hand to Ruriska, "This is for you," it was a relaxing bubbly-bath case, "And this is for Ai," A cute little stuffed mermaid doll, "And yours is coming," She smiled at Thomas.
"Can *I* have one of the cookies?" Samuel, the middle boy demanded.
"Well, I haven't even given that to them yet!"
"Well, WOULD you?"
"Samuel! You'll not touch a one, even if it's offered to you, and don't look at me like that, young man!" She now handed a little tubberware with large cookies in it to Ruriska as well.
Lee went over and sat by Tom, "Hey!!" He said, wildly enthusiastic. Hah. Another fan of his.
Lesley pulled the other suitcases in as his family stormed the room. Heh. He had the best.

"Heya, Gabe," Tom returned the greeting lazily. He was grinning quite brightly at all of them, his eyes twinkling in mischief and pleasure.
When Lee eagerly came to say hi, Tom chuckled. Hah. He recognised THAT behaviour. "Yo!" Tom returned cheerfully. "You must be Lee, I think. How are ya?"

Ruri smiled at Irene as the little girl plopped herself down next to the couch and then stood up to greet everybody. “Nice to meet you. Gabriella, wasn’t it?” She asked and was then surprised to find a bunch of gifts being shoved into her arms. “Oh, thankyou so much.” Lavender scented bath soaps. Nice, she could use that later. And cookies! Yum! Ruri chuckled and then winked at Samuel. “I’ll just go put these cookies in the kitchen.”
There was a cute little call from one of the back rooms. Obviously someone had just woken up from her nap. “Muuuuumy.”
“Just a sec Ai.” With a smile she disappeared to the kitchen, to put down the cookies (lid off), took a side-trip to the bathroom where she left the bath stuff on the sink counter, and then made her way into Hannah’s room.
It wasn’t long before a happy little Ai came running out to great everyone, dressed in her little pink jammies, the mermaid plushie clutched in her hands. She was followed by a creature that looked like some sort of warped mixture between an orangutan, a centipede and a dog. Clearly Raleigh hadn’t felt right leaving his darling little sister without his own form of protection.
Then Ruri was there, bullying the monstrous creation into another room before it could scare all the kids. “Stupid thing.” She muttered as she shut the door. “Hey Ai, what do you say?”
“Tankya!” Ai said, giving her new toy a wave.

Lee nodded his head, "That's me. I'm BORED! I HATE plane rides, and never-ever wanna have to deal with them again. Ever."
By the time Ruriska and Ai had come back, Gabriella had already restacked all the suitcases to look nice lined up there, and Lesley was reaching to help Thomas up from the floor, eyes mischievous, "I told you to go easy, I can't leave you alone for the hour it takes to pick up my family---Women will be the death of the both of us, I think." Though there was some good-natured scolding in the first statement, he couldn't help but to sound pleased with the second.
"What was THAT?" Samuel demanded, jumping over around Ruriska, and wanting to get around her to the other room to see the THING that had popped in, "Was it a dog? We're not afraid of dogs! What WAS it?" It hadn't really SEEMED like a dog.
"Well, hello! You're welcome," Gabriella had brightened up as Ai came in, and especially at the greeting she gave to the room in general.
"Samantha and Leah and me are at the beach. We can see you at the beach." Irene said, running up to Ai and pointing to the three dolls that were sitting on the couch.

Tom nodded, agreeing whole heartedly to Lee. "Oh yeah, you're totally right-- I haven't been on one in AGES. Hey! If you want, I can take you along for a flight some day! I you're up for it--"
Tom got distracted when Lesley reached out his hand to help Tom get up. He snorted. "What made you think I didn't WANT to get into trouble?" he grinned smugly. Still-- he had to lean on Lesley for a moment to regain proper balance, sighing a bit ruefully while he did so. Not the right time to get all bitter and angry about it, though. He faked sudden surprise as he spoke suspciously to Lesley again.
"Say-- what was that I just heard your boy say? You told them about my super secret GAME room?" he demanded indignantly. Then he shrugged.
"Oh, well-- I doubt your boys would be interested in that, ANYWAY," he smirked, purposely not directing himself at Lee.

“What was what?” Ruri feigned ignorance, leaning on the door and giving Samual a grin. She was going to ring up Raleigh and demand he get rid of that damn thing. He had probably made it as ugly as sin on purpose. “How about, um… some cookies?” Ruri tried to distract the boy, dropping her voice to a carefully low level.
Ai stared at Irene for a moment curiously and then her grin grew wider. “Kay!” The beach was fun. The mermaid was given another wave, and then Ai waited for her new friend to show her what happened next.
“Shall we start getting the bags to your rooms?” Ruri asked Gabriella, keeping an eye on Sam as she stepped away from the door.

"YEAH!!! We can do that!" Then found he pouted, "Do you have a NOT secret gameroom?" He asked, "Or a dog?" His eyes wandered to Samuel's cheering for an animal, "Or something FUN to do, or is this a boring adult's house?" He reached out to tug on Tom, but Lesley slapped his hand away. So he settled for putting his arms on his hips and looking.
Samuel looked from Ruriska, suspiciously to the room she was trying to pretend wasn't there, and then to the kitchen where she had undoubtedly dropped off the box of cookies. Then he looked up at her and whispered, "I can keep a secret."
Irene grinned, "Ok, so we're at the beach, and we see a BEAUTIFUL mermaid. That's you!" She points at the mermaid doll, "Oohh, oohh! Pretty! Hello, little mermaid!!!" She made the dolls bounce around the couch-beach as they waved at the mermaid.

"Nah, I was just kidding," Tom winked at Lee. "I'd show you, but your dad's not allowing me to walk by myself," he told Lee conspiratorily, even as he rolled his eyes. "It's down the hall, the third door to your left. You're free to mess with whatever you like," he winked.
When Ruri denied the Raleigh creature (which kept on pinching him whenever he wasn't looking) Tom just sighed inwardly. Secrets-- all those secrets. He wasn't even sure how much of that was needed, considering WHOM the children belonged to, but still-- not his call to make. He'd talk it over with Ruri later. It would save them some trouble. Last time, the hideous monster had actually clawed its way THROUGH the wall, in order to get to Ai and keep her safe.
Yeah-- they had had to use cardboard to hide THAT hole. And Raleigh hadn't even been intimidated by Ruri's angry shouts. It was hard to be scary by phone, but Ruri still managed to pull that one off. Hah-- and THAT made Tom smile all dream-- NO IT DIDNT.
"We don't have a dog," Tom added for clarification to whomever would be listening.
Aw, and wasn't Ai cute? And she was HIS kid.
Whoah. That felt weird. To just admit that. Tom shivered subconsciously.

Ruri scratched the back of her neck as she considered Samuel. Well, they were all going to have to see it eventually, right? It wasn’t as if she could keep it hidden for long. After a moment of thought she bent forward and whispered conspiratorially. “Okay, you wanna see the creature that’s in there? Here we go.”
She opened the door a bit and a wooden head instantly shoved its way through. Ruri sighed. Luckily the little girl, the one who Ruri had been most worried about, was busy playing with Ai. “This is… um… I can’t remember its name.” One long arm wrapped around the door. "It won't hurt you... unless you make Ai cry and then it'll probably rip you to pieces or something."
Ai watched Irene carefully and then made her mermaid swim across the couch. “'Ello.” The mermaid said to the rest of the dolls as she swam around.

Lee looked up to his father for confirmation. Lesley nodded with a smile, "Take Sam with you."
But Lesley's arm was wrapped by teenage arms, "You should come too."
"Son..."
"Please?" The nearly sixteen year old looked nearly ready to beg the point.
Lesley looked lost. He tossed a look to Gabriella -- who had turned around and was steadfast ignoring him by pretending to straighten zippers on the suitcases. Then he tossed one to Thomas.
Samuel peered in at it, "WHOA!! Wha--" And his exclamation died down at Ruri's description. He frowned up at her, and looked around to Ai and Irene, "But babies cry just because. What if Irene fights with her... Irene, you're not allowed to play with her!" He huffed in big-brotherly protection himself.
"Hello!" "Hello!" "Hello, pretty mermaid!" Irene had gone through all the dolls, giving them each different voices. One danced up...slosh, slosh, "I am---" She looked up and blinked as Samuel yelled, "Why?"
"Samuel! You apologize this instant!" Gabriella turned to scold, then gave the creature a funny look. What had her boy found already?
