Sephiroth is a very deep character by name the Sephiroth refers to the sepheric system which is the 10 alignments of god and Jenova is refers to as the new god which uses the Sephiroth to gain power. I believe they are from kabbalah which is a religion.
Sephiroth's music theme is the one winged angle, he does have one black wing as for why there is some reason which is explained in Crises core on the psp Gackt/G/Genises has another black wing not to mention Zack seems to have one white wing!
Actually, only Sephiroth is from Kabbalah. Jenova is latin, and the Jenova translation is only a guess at what was meant, so we aren't even sure if they intended it to be 'New God'. In any case, you can read all about it in the "Name Origins and Meanings" topic.
