We do it, because it's what we like to do. Popularity, or lack thereof is of no importance, to a dedicated student of their chosen language. We use it, whenever we feel we must, or want to. Your negative outlook does not please me, and if you're not even going to believe in yourself enough to study the language, I'd suggest you take your leave of this place.
