You have one thing in common. If you play the same instrument, there's something else to talk about. Seriously, you spend more time with your fellow band people than your family during marching season. You get attracted to someone somewhere. I dated a clarinetist for six months once. However, I'm not interested in any band people that I know (25 winds isn't much room to choose) But people outside band become attracted to band people, just because we're talented (most of us, haha).
Band people just get close to one another, defending each other form 'outsiders', talking about band drama, jokes, ect., talking about a piece of music (or several dozen)... whatever it is. Plus all band people seem to have a lot of the same pet peeves and interests, at least within a single band.

There is currently a Band relationship in my summer orchestra....
A flute and trumpet player. They are pretty awesome people. And we think the other trumpet player is jealous, but the trumpet player with the girl friend thinks he is gay.
Other than that, no. During the year, band was quarrels.
The percussionists wer jerks, and kept to themselves, and I hangeded with a trombone-r and a trumpet from an honor band (the trombone-r didn't try out this year).....
Me and the trombone were tight....... WE WERE BAND BUDDIES!! mrgreen mrgreen mrgreen mrgreen mrgreen mrgreen

Hmm... well band geeks seem to have a thing for each other. We all get along. I've dated two percussionist in the past, though one went to trombone, and they were dweebs... and the baritone just asked me out, but I told him no...
but for the most part we have a few here and there, a lot of crushing, a lot of jelousy... a lot of anger and hatred. But in the end all the band geeks throw aside their differences to do one thing: KICK BUTT ON THE MARCHING FIELD! YEAH! he-he... that's the only time we act like one band...

NEVER DATE WITHIN THE BAND! all of my band relationships have lasted about a week give or take a day or two...yeah i just got dumped by a clarinet player....again....it sucks and the only major problem is that i have to see her SOOOOOOOOOOO much and it realy sucks thats why you shouldn't date within the band because if you get dumped or even dump a person in the band and you're in the band.....you will feel horrible cause you see them ALL the effin time at practices and games and such.

I'm not sure, but it's probably because if you are with someone in band you already have some stuff in common, and you're friends with lots of the same people if it's a small- to- medium sized band. Like for me, one of my best friends and I are like only friends from band. And we're hearing some rumors about us being together from upperclassmen (I'm an 8th grader, she's a freshman). And our sections (low brass and clarinets) are together a lot of times. I don't know why, though, because they're completely different. BUt friendships and relationships are formed by band a lot of times.

Well, like pretty much everyone said, you have stuff in common and see each other a lot. But! I think it goes deeper than that. After a few years of band (when you reach HS and those who don't rly like band quit), the people in band have sort of a brotherhood thing. I mean, not THAT much, but most of us are pretty smart and obviously like band. I think though, that it's just that a lot of band members are so much more similar to each other, personality wise, than non-bandies. So there's my take. biggrin
