((Nat--whenever is fine :3 Sorry I forgot to reply to your OOC last time XD ))

Ari caught sight of the guardian out of the corner of his eye, but he'd deal with it secondly--the 'phim, and making the announcement to the tribe came first.

"If you're not here to join, then it would be best if you left," Ari told Selene--and from what she'd said so far, she sounded diurnal, and a poor fit for the tribe.

But now that the last member--Anjafey (and just why was she acting so uncharacteristically calm?)--was here, the meeting could finally start.

Ari took a deep breath, and resisted the urge to fidget nervously--he had been trying to think of how to say this ever since his and Kazuki's meeting with the Moon Fox, but he was still as clueless this night as he had been back then.

It was just best to say something, and get it over with, he finally decided.

"As you can all see, Kazuki's not here. He, and our children, have been called off by the Moon Fox on an important mission. The details are confidential. All I can say is that they are gone indefinitely."

Ari let out the breath he'd been holding, as he looked from one member to the next, to see their reactions. The speech had been far from pretty, but now at least he had told his tribe members what they needed to know.

It could see now that this was the point when it should have come forward, and not before.

It approached its elder and bowed. "That is why I am here--the Moon Fox sent me to assist you with the tribe in whatever way I could, while the other elder is away."

This tribe was not meant to be ruled by one fox alone, and while it was less than an elder, it could still help fill in that void a little. That was why it had asked the Moon Fox to come here, to help preserve her tribe.

True, it had somewhat lied about being sent, but it came with the consent of the Moon Fox, which was quite close enough.

Kin'iro returned with the necessary vines and herbs just as Ari had started his announcement. She paused while he spoke, and once the elder was finished the golden vixen made her way back over to Kavi's side. "Ah, Ari, I am so sorry," she said sincerely as she started to work on Kavi's injury. "I know this separation must be hard for you, but I am sure that the moonfox will keep watch over them on their journey."

Yudoku's feelings towards the news were a bit mixed. On the one hand she did feel bad for Ari not being able to see his loved ones for an indefinite amount of time, but on the other hand she couldn't say that she was entirely displeased to have Kazuki be away. Red eyes watched as the tribe guardian approached, and its words intrigued her. Our tribe has a guardian now? Hm, interesting. She wondered silently to herself if this black and silver dragon before them was anything like guardian over in her brother's tribe. I guess only time will tell.

Thea's black eyes widened as Ari spoke, things suddenly clicking together in her mind. This is why Ari had been so down lately. This is why Kazuki had left in the middle of the morning with no word to anyone. This is why...Oh, poor Ari...

Thea knew the sting of a loved one leaving her side without a word. She knew it twice. But now was not the time for selfpity--there was no such time, to Thea. Her only remaining Elder was hurting, but he was putting on a brave face (ish), so that must mean that he wanted them to do the same.

"Is there anything any of us can do?" Thea asked hesitantly, standing fluidly. She ignored the guardian for the time being; the mere fact that it came from the Moon Fox was awe-inspiring, but she could fawn over it later; she needed to focus on Ari for the time being.

...But then she noticed a little kit by Yudoku's feet. Despite wanting to make sure Ari was dealing alright, she had to make sure the poor kit was alright too, and duty called--after all, Ari wouldn't want everything in the Tribe screeching to a grinding halt, would he?

"Um...excuse me for a moment..." Thea mumbled quickly, then ducked her head and went over to the two.

"Hello," Thea greeted the tiny kit quietly, smiling softly as she lay down next to him. "What's your name?" Thea noticed it had a large...something...on his head, but she wasn't about the point that out. Already, she could tell that he was uncomfortable around this many people, and her mind was starting to work on an excuse to get them away--they made her uncomfortable too.

Thea glanced over her shoulder at Ari again, though, and was again torn--her Elder or her job? Sighing softly, Thea reasoned that he would be busy for a while with questions and the new guardian, so it was best to focus on her job for now.

Seeing the quick manner Kin'iro rushed off to find their healing herbs, Nato decided it was best he stay with the injured boy. He made a soft pile of dead leaves for Kavi to rest his paw on and made sure for the time being, the boy was comfortable. Of course they would move him to a better spot later, but there was no sense in letting him sit uncomfortably until then.

Nato offered Anja a reassuring smile as she came to sit by him. He knew it must be hard for her, but she held her composure well. The older shaman began working with the herbs as soon as Kin'iro brought them over though he listened intently to the words Ari spoke.

After Ari was finished, the dark male felt a stronger connection to the Elder. Many of their tribe members had lost mates, but not many of them had lost mates and children. Lost them without a goodbye. Lost them without knowing if they'd ever return. Nato knew how it felt to raise a child without a mate and only the help of the tribe careers. He knew well the longing Ari must be feeling. But Ari was an Elder and had a tribe to run when Nato did not.

Nato finished dressing Kavi's injured paw with help from Kin'iro and listened to all the other foxes speak in turn, as well as the guardian. Many of the foxes spoke of their concern dealing with the fact of Ari's loss of family (though it was a loss of family to them as well) but no one seemed to comment on the fact that they were down an Elder and had a tribe to build back. When he felt like the time was right, he spoke.

"I know how it feels to lose both mate and child, and I feel deeply for your loss. I can say, though it is hard, time can heal those wounds if you let it and we are all here to assist with that in any way we can. But now we are short one Elder. Do you plan on running the tribe alone then, as you have been recently? I can not remember a time when this tribe was run by one Elder, and though I have no doubt in your abilities, Ari, I must express my concern."

Mitora's bright features dropped as Ari finished announcing the news. They were gone. She didn't know Ari's children very well, but she did know Kazuki. She wanted, like all the other vixens, to express how sorry she was for his loss, but her father spoke up before her. She felt a sting as he mentioned the absence of her mother and brother but she was curious at the issue he brought up. Was a second Elder even needed anymore? Or would a new Elder come be Ari's new mate?

The young vixen couldn't imagine losing Vitali. She nuzzled him lightly to reassure herself he was still there. Yes, she couldn't even imagine losing him, especially now that they were having kits. Speaking of which... She should probably tell everyone about that soon.

((Juli, when would you like to introduce them? Are they born yet or still have them in their BCR's or what? lol))

Aysu sighed softly and went over to Blue Daddy; Kavi would be safe with Anja and Nato. She missed Purple Daddy and her siblings a lot, but now the three of them who were left had to be there for each other.

Still small compared to Daddy despite being an adult, she curled up around his leg and set her head on his paw. "I love you, Daddy," she murmured, too quietly for anyone but him to hear. He didn't get enough private affection from his family, so she'd give him what she could.

----

Anj opened her mouth to say something reassuring, but then thought better of it and shut her mouth. Ari didn't want to hear from her right now. Nothing she, or anyone else, could say would make this kind of hurt go away. Words were empty when you lost family.

She refocused her attention on Kavi, who had apparently fallen asleep at some point. Glad the young male was at least getting rest after limping all the way beck here, Anja curled up close to him to offer body warmth and company while he slept, then smiled back at Nato.

"Thank you for your concern, Kin'iro."

He then turned his attention to Thea: "Continue to do your jobs. And if you have a problem that needs the attention of an elder, don't hesitate to come to me." He knew they might try to deal with it themselves, to spare him from too much work, or from intruding on him while he got used to his family being gone. But he wanted the opposite--he wanted more work, more tasks, so he could try to keep his mind off the fact that he had no clue when he would see his family again.

And to Nato, even if he cared for and respected the other fox, his tone was harsher than it had been with Thea: "Kazuki is gone, not dead, so the tribe has two elders still! I can handle running this tribe myself for a little bit. Kazuki will return one day, after all."

Ari wrapped his bushy tail around Aysu, drawing her in close to him. "I love you too," he whispered back to his daughter.

Thea winced in sympathy for Nato at the abrupt switch in Ari's tone; Lunarie was a calm Tribe by nature, but Thea especially hated anything above a certain decibel or at a certain tone; it just grated on her nerves and made her sad.

Apparently, the young kit didn't need any help, so Thea shifted her attention from him to the other foxes, eying each of them carefully. "We know, Ari," Thea eventually told Ari, her voice gentle and reassuring. "None of us meant any disrespect, I'm sure. We're all just..." Thea sighed and shook her head, cutting herself off before standing and going over to the Elder and his daughter. "We are all family, and while Kazuki is definitely not departed from this world, he is departed from this Tribe, for the time being. It's only natural that he--and the rest of us-- worry a little bit." Thea tried a little bit of a smile, desperately trying not to bother her Elder more or make him more upset: he didn't need that, not when his son was still injured.

"We all just want what's best," Thea said with a one-sided shrug, looking away from the tall, blue male for a moment. "For everyone."

And now, with Aysu (whom she'd never really gotten to know, sadly) looking intently up at her and Ari looking down at her, she didn't know what to do. In fact, she was barely resisting the urge to just mutter something unintelligible and slink off back to that little kit. Barely, though, she stayed with the father and daughter, even if she wasn't looking at them--her paintsplattered paws were much more interesting to her at the moment.

Vitali nuzzled back, shifting closer to his own mate, silently reassuring her that that would never, ever happen to them--it couldn't! He wouldn't let it.

Vitali, somewhat lacking his sister's capability for forethought and planning, cleared his throat. "Er, before everyone leaves? Tora and I have a bit of an announcement to make," Tali paused for a moment, then added sheepishly. "I'm Mitora's mate, for those of you that don't know. Vitali." Then he cleared is throat and stood up straighter, but still close to her. Somewhere, in the back of his slightly confused mind, he knew there might be a better way to do this, but Deities above, who knew when everyone would be together again?

Besides. Seemed like everyone needed a pick-me-up anyways. "Mitora and I will be having kits. They will be arriving...soon." Tali looked at her and smiled softly, nuzzling her cheek gently, his face reflecting the blissful peace he felt inside.

Thea's ears perked as Vitali spoke, her eyebrows raising slightly. While good news, in theory, Thea wasn't sure how the Tribe as a whole would take it--a stranger announcing he and one of their own were having children?

Not to mention, Nato probably wasn't too thrilled either...Thea glanced over at him, her ears drooping slightly. This would probably mean more arguing.

"Congratulations," Thea murmured softly to the happy couple, hating herself for the jealously she felt in the smallest corner of her heart--everyone else got a mate (some more than one), everyone else got children (some with more than one partner), everyone else got someone to curl up with, whether it be a fox they'd known since BCR or an old friend or what. Thea recognized that, again, she had no one. And again, she accepted it.

Shaking her head to clear it, Thea stood up again and walked a few feet past the Elder and his daughter, curling up under the shadow of a tree to watch the group carefully. They had enough to worry about without Thea whining on about things nobody could change.

Nato retained his serious complexion as his Elder addressed him. There was no use in speaking any more about it. Ari was clinging to the last bit of hope he had and it wasn't Nato's place to shatter that, especially in front of the tribe, including Ari's children. But Nato knew. Kazuki was just like Amira. He wasn't coming back and neither was she. None of the children would return either. They were gone. Nato had come to accept that and move on. The dark male could only hope that Ari would soon do the same.

He had to admit he was a bit surprised at how much Thea had to say tonight. The vixen had said more tonight than he had possibly ever heard her say since he'd known her. But he was thankful for it. She seemed to know the right things to say.

And then Vitali had to speak. He just HAD to announce it. The time had come. Nato took a deep breath and turned to face his daughter and son-in-law. They were mates. Vitali would be joining soon, if he hadn't already received permission to already. They were happy. The older male calmly walked over to the couple and stood before them. Yes, it was time.

Mitora stared at the space in front of her for a second before realizing that Tali had just dropped the bomb. This could not end well. He just got accepted and she had just gotten in a fight with her father. Couldn't this have waited another day?

She wanted to worry but Tali's soft nuzzle on her cheek prevented that from happening. She loved him and it was perfectly fine to start a family with him, whether anyone else approved or not.... Well... Maybe not. Mitora looked up as her father approached and got ready to defend her actions and her mate. But surprisingly, she didn't have to.

"I am happy for you." He told them. "It will be nice to hear the pitter-patter of small paws around the tribe again." Nato looked at Vitali. It was hard not to let the emotions overcome him but the tribe didn't need more drama right now. Mitora didn't need more drama right now. "Welcome to the family, Vitali." And with that, he turned and resumed his place next to Anjafey and Kavi.

Nato wasn't freaking out? Thank goodness, Thea thought. She didn't think this poor Tribe could handle it at this point.

So Thea went back to watching the others, especially Ari...who still didn't seem happy, despite the return of two of his children...and glancing around, everyone else seemed to be distracted by Ari's news, by Vitali's news or by Nato's lack of response.

So that left her. Different.

Shaking her head to clear it, Thea stood, but didn't go back to the Elder and his daughter, instead calling softly, "Ari? Could I...can I speak to you for a few moments?"

Vitali blinked in surprise, but smiled hesitantly back--was he secretly asleep?

"Thank you, s-sir?" Tali eventually managed, looking back at Mitora, his face the picture of confusion. "We're happy too." But Nato was gone, so Tali just looked back at his mate. "Aren't we?" And the confusion was gone, replaced with a smile. He himself had never been happier in his whole life, ever.

So, Vitali and Mitora were having kits. Ari smiled at that, genuinely happy for them. Oh, true, he was a bit jealous too, that they got to be together while his mate was away, but...but it was good to see happiness in the tribe again, too.

He wanted to stay here, with his children, but he couldn't just abandon his duties as an elder, either. However tempted he was to postpone them for even just a little bit...

"Of course," he told Thea. He leaned down to nuzzle Aysu and Kavi, promising them "I'll be right back," before heading over to see what the paint-splattered vixen had to say.

Thea waffled as he made his way over, panged with guilt that opening her big mouth had made her Elder leave his children, when they'd only just gotten back, too...

But before she could say 'never mind', he was standing before her, looking rather curious at why she had pulled him away.

"I...er..." Thea fumbled shyly, her cheeks flushing as she desperately tried to remember what she had been going to tell him...Oh, right. "I...Ari, um...would it be alright if...if I made a suggestion?" When he agreed, after a moment of thought, Thea cleared her throat and took a deep breath.

"If...if you would like the Tribe to be happier..." Which Thea knew he did, she could just tell, "you might try...being a little happier yourself..." Realizing that didn't come out at all as she had wanted, Thea quickly clarified, "I just mean, um, showing them--us! us-- that...that you like your job...if you like your job, I mean, I just know I like my job but our jobs are different so it was stupid of me to assume that you like yours...do you like yours?" Thea finished hastily, looking up at the big blue fox nervously, her cheeks definitely pink against her white fur.

Poor Thea had never spoken to Ari much at all--she had never spoken to anyone much at all--but she had certainly never imagined herself giving the much wiser, older and smarter Elder advice on how to run his Tribe.

"Er, of course, I meant it with all due respect..." Thea added very quietly, almost irrationally afraid that he would be upset with her, the same way he'd been upset at Nato.
PostPosted: Wed May 12, 2010 6:37 pm

Ari sank a little into himself. Was he really all that unapproachable as an elder that this girl seemed to be nearly terrified of him?

So, maybe his reaction to Nato wasn't helping, but he wasn't like that all the time. He was never like that. Except for now, now that Nato had touched a nerve and implied that Kazuki would never be coming back. No, Kazuki would be different from all of the foxes who had left. He would return. He felt bad for Nato, for having lost his mate, but Ari knew that it would be different with Kazuki. Even if it took years and years, his mate would still return.

...and now he was distracted again, and he was surprised Thea hadn't asked him why he'd been spacing out for the past five minutes. He had to focus better than this. He shook his head to clear it, making his beads clink together melodically.

"I do like my job," he reassured her. And maybe he didn't act it that much, with Kazuki gone, but...

Focus. He had to focus.

"I suppose...I can try..." he glanced around, realized that they had moved far enough from the main group to not be overheard, "but it's easier said than done," he confided in her.

Vitali and Mitora were having kits, and that was something to be happy about, yes, but Kazuki was still gone, and that...there was no joy in that at all.

"I...I know..." Thea responded timidly, still blushing; she wanted to reassure him that no, it wasn't him, it was her that was making everything awkward and awful, because it was, but she couldn't find a way to articulate that.

"But...but maybe if they...I don't know...if we saw that you liked your job more...somehow..." Thea trailed off, looking down for a little while. "Like...like maybe more Tribe meetings? When...when everyone can announce important things...like Mitora and Vitali having their kits..." Thea thought quickly, though she hated herself for the pang of jealousy she felt in the pit of her stomach-- everyone else got kits, everyone else got a mate, everyone else got someone warm to cuddle up with at night, whether it be an old friend or a new kit. Everyone else...

With a sigh, Thea cut herself off from that line of thought, continuing shyly, "Maybe...also if you...smiled a bit more? I mean, I know there's not a lot to smile about sometimes but faking it helps sometimes..." Thea was silent again for a few moments, staring firmly at her feet.

Then, very quietly, "And Nato...doesn't speak for all of us. I know Kazuki will be back, and until he is, you will be a perfectly fine Elder, as you have been all the time, even with Kazuki. I'm sorry Nato hurt your feelings saying what he said."
PostPosted: Thu May 13, 2010 1:02 pm

"More tribe meetings...? We could do that, yeah," Ari mumbled, more to himself than anything. And Thea did have the point--the tribe wasn't what it once had been. Once upon a time, way back at the start, they had been a close-knit group of foxes. But now of that group, only he, Nato, and Anjafey remained. And with the bad blood that was between him and the vixen, he hardly counted her in that anymore.

And he was spacing again. He had to talk to Thea, not get lost in his own mind.

"That's a good idea," Ari spoke up this time, talking to Thea, rather than himself. "It could definitely help bring the tribe together again. Maybe we can even get it to be like it once was, before the kits arrive..." That would be nice--let the kits grow up in an actual tribe, rather than this loose collection of foxes that passed for one right now.

Thea looks down as he muttered something under his breath--probably realizing what a dumb idea she'd had. She certainly felt it was.

Just as Thea was about to say, 'Never mind', he spoke, saying it was a good idea. He was probably just being nice--because that's what he was, nice. He had to be, being an Elder.

"I thought it might...plus, um...it might let everyone see...you know...that you do like your job..." Thea trailed off. She wasn't sure if Ari understood how much he affected the rest of them.

"And...well...I mean, I guess...if you showed everyone that you have...have faith in you...they might have more faith in you too..." But then she corrected herself quickly, "But, um, if you don't want to, I'm sure it's okay...I know I believe in you...because you're the Elder, and you're the Elder for a reason and...and the Moon Fox wouldn't have called Kazuki if she didn't believe in you, so we all should too," Thea finished a rush, blushing.
