Lin heard a familiar voice, but a voice that was not familiar here at Mystic Fountain. Oddly, it reminded her of home.
When Lin looked up from her book and passed her towers of books around her, she gasped when she saw who had called out to her. Was she having a dream? This almost seemed too good to be true.
Tears began to form in Lin's eyes again and she got up and raced over to her headmistress. She quickly wrapped her arms around her and rested her head on her shoulder. Finally a true friend!
"Headmistress Krause! It's so good to see! I've missed you so much... I've missed Bai Ching."

Arielle wrapped her own arms around Lin, smiling softly. "I missed you, too, meine Tochter*. Bai Ching is not the same without you there. Tell me, what has happened? Why did you not contact me this past Sunday?"

{{Awww! biggrin Arielle is pretty much the BEST Headmistress/Headmaster ever! biggrin }}
A few tears fell down Lin's cheeks as she heard her headmistress's caring words. It really was like home had come to her, in this place where she still didn't feel completely comfortable at. Even less so now.
Lin winced when she realized that she had forgotten to contact her headmistress that Sunday. Sunday.... what an awful day. Linwanted to tell her headmistress what was wrong with her, what had kept her away. At Bai Ching, she never kept anything from Headmistress Krause. She felt a deep connection with her as her student and as a fellow elf. Arielle had even gone home with Lin to the elven home in the forest. Everyone loved her.
But even Arielle probably wouldn't approve of what Lin had done. Not only had she fallen in love with a dark magic user and a vampire, but she had fallen in love with a professor. And Lin never wanted her headmistress to look down at her or expel her from Bai Ching. She never wanted to leave Bai Ching. Lin knew that she would be going back there after this school year was over.
Lin shook her head and continued to hug her headmistress. It might not be professional, but they weren't at school right now. "I am very sorry for not contacting you, Headmistress Krause. We... we had two tragedies here on Sunday, and I was so consumed with grief that I did not even realize what day it was. I still do not have a firm grasp of time at this moment."

Arielle gently brushed some hair back from Lin's face. "Nein, nein,* it is fine. I was very worried about you. Today is Tuesday, and I needed to come and be sure that you were okay." Humming softly for a moment, she continued, "But it seems much has gone awry. Talk to me, Lin." It wasn't necessarily a command--more like a request. She wanted to know what was wrong with the poor elf in her arms, the saddened girl who was normally so strong.

Lin thought about Arielle's words for a moment. She didn't seem judgmental now. Of course, she never seemed judgmental, from what Lin saw. Good grief. She needed to tell someone. And she didn't have to be specific.
Lin sighed and moved back from her Headmistress. She pulled a chair out for her and then sat down in her own. "Headmistress Krause... one of those individuals that passed away on Sunday.... I was very close with him. I cared for him greatly. And in a way, it is my fault he pass... passed away."
Lin's voice caught and she looked down at the ground. A couple tears fell again, so she kept her eyes focused on the ground.
"I am... trying to look up a resurrection spell right now. That is what I have been doing the past couple of days."

Arielle's heart went out to Lin. She had just lost someone she had, quite possibly, loved, and she blamed herself for his demise. Sitting down, and gently pulling Lin so that she would do so as well for better comfort, Arielle laid a hand on the girl's shoulder. "You poor dear..." she murmured. "I am deeply sorry. It... it is not easy to lose someone you love. But you should not try to awaken the dead. It's not a natural part of life. You should respect his death, and honor him in it, but do not try to bring him back. It is futile, and leads down dark roads such that you should not follow. Those roads would lead only to pain."

Lin looked back up at her headmistress and there was a deep fear in her eyes. Fear of what she might lose. Fear of what might be impossible.
"No... I would never resort to black magic to bring him back. Not ever. I promise you that, Headmistress Krause. He would not want that, either. But,"
She turned and gestured to all the books on the table. "There has to be a way to bring him back with white magic. It has to be here somewhere! It was white magic that killed him and white magic can bring him back! I can bring him back!"
In her fear, she didn't realize that she had given a key piece of information to her headmistress about what type of magic user this man had been.

Arielle frowned. White magic had killed him? Just what was he? What had happened? "No, Lin. White magic was not created to bring people back from the dead. You cannot bring him back." Arielle did not like this side of Lin; it was scared, it was helpless, it was reckless. "Lin. Be reasonable; think with your mind, not your heart."

Lin sobbed, a heart-wrenching sob, and put her head in her hands, rested her elbows on her knees. "No! I always think with my mind! It hurts! It's never right! White magic can help with anything and everything!"

Arielle put her doubts about this mysterious man on the back-burner; she could worry about that later. She needed to be here now, her full attention was needed by Lin. "Lin... my dear, hush, hush..." She wrapped her arm securely around the sobbing girl, rubbing gently. "You must understand, Lin, that not everything can be undone or corrected. Some things are not meant to be changed. Death... death is one of them. Death is something that is a barrier for white magic; white magic may not pass its borders."

Ophiuchus, like Lin, had not slept all night - but for him, an entirely different reason. Lesson plans, giant flying squids, secretly casting sleeping spells on Ialo so that the boy would actually sleep, and frightening curfew-breaking students - among other things.
He was merely passing the library, and he heard Lin say something that immediately made him groan aloud. He honestly didn't mean to, he as trying to stay unobtrusive because hey, this was a library, but...
"Lin, I hope you know and respect this woman, she's very right..." There was Professor Akakios, leaning and resting his arms on the top of a half-height bookshelf. His hair was pulled back and whatever he was wearing was not Western, it resembled more of an Indian traditional garb, with a long tunic, light pants, and sandals. Hey, it was nice outside. He could afford to ditch the wool coat today.

Lin sobbed harder and shook her head when she heard first her headmistress and then Professor Akakios.
Lin stood up angrily and stormed over to the bookshelf Akakios was leaning on, on the opposite side of the shelf from him.
"Get OUT! This has nothing to do with you! You made that perfectly clear Sunday night!"

"On what grounds?" Ophiuchus challenged calmly. "I have no say in who you choose to favor, but I'm still your teacher." He didn't mind it so much today, Lin shouting at him. It wasn't as awkward as before, it seemed.
"What you know about white magic is every bit my business."

Arielle was shocked. It was obvious to her that this other man--who seemed to be rather kind, even if he also didn't seem to have much of a sense of privacy--was some sort of professor or other staff member. And Lin had just yelled at him! "Lin Yin! What are you thinking, young lady?" She stood and stared at the girl--but it was not a glare. It was something more along the lines of disbelief and confusion.
She still had no idea what was going on.

Lin looked with teary eyes between her headmistress and Professor Akakios. It was like everyone was against her! Was she the only one who wanted to bring Dymetri back?! Was she the only one who had complete faith in white magic?!
Was she the only one in the world about to fall apart?!
"I am thinking that I have no idea what to do! I am thinking that everyone I depend on turns on me or dies! I'm thinking that I have no idea what's going on right now and that everything is turning upside down! Everything I believed in is fading away!"
