Efflo blinked; one minute he was being pants’d by shadowlings and the next key-swords were bursting from the ground. He was starting to wonder if he was actually awake or if this all wasn’t some horrible, horrible dream.
But, if he was doomed to suffer out this nightmare grabbing a weapon was probably an intelligent idea. Little colt fists weren’t much of a match against the gnashing shadows. The ponyboy reached for the nearest blade, caught off-guard by the nearly magical-girl quality transformation that ensued. The sword lengthened, the metal falling away to expose carved bone beneath. It shone with a faint green luminescence, suggesting that something familiarly buggy lurked within.
The undead boil lifted the keyblade best he could and attempted to take a practice swing at several approaching shadowlings. But the weapon was unwieldy and Efflo was a klutz so instead of a magnificent battle strike, the poor undead found himself tripping over his feet, running smack-dab into the backside of a rather tall and frosty looking boil.

The introduction of key swords - nay, key BLADES, might have given the students an advantage. Such an advantage would only be temporary unless they learned to use it well.
Everything, every moment, attack, assist, even every movement itself seemed to draw to a strange long note, unfulfilled and unsatisfactory, as if something was missing. And perhaps something was, but for those fighting they had long forgotten, sucked into this strange spiral of dream - or was it?
The next second passed, another shadowling, dissipated. Silence again.
And once again they retreated, as the air itself seemed to buzz, to whisper something. Words.
- C...... M..........N...................-
They were gone, replaced by a single, black crater that appeared from the ground. A crater that revealed a massive head first, easily several feet high, followed by a pair of claws, antennae, beady yellow eyes. It lumbered slowly, shaking the earth with each step, more interested in gouging everything around it than just its assailants.
What can be destroyed will only come back stronger

If he was going to be honest with himself, he knew what his role in this silly little fight was. He knew it when he'd woken up that morning. He knew it when he picked up that blade, and it spoke to him while it adapted. He knew, but he was still pretty stubbornly trying to figure out if he could get away with doing absolutely nothing. He certainly wasn't going to actually go fight them. But he was equally certain that they couldn't really hurt him very much if they tried. He wasn't scared... just really apathetic.
He walked over without a word, and stood in front of two complete strangers, bending slightly into some kind of defensive position. "So, uh, I'll.. just, you know. Stand here. Keep them off you. Sound good?" He didn't introduce himself, and he really didn't care to know who they were. All he knew was, this was as good as his contribution was going to get.
When someone slammed into him, he managed to take the brunt of the impact because he was already in a defensive stance. He stumbled, and swung his sword around threateningly, freezing when he realized the black figure against him wasn't one of those little beady eyed creatures. That barely stopped him from hitting the boil anyway.
"Watch where you're going!" Gabby roared, giving his blade a threatening shake. "I almost lopped your head off! Don't you realize you almost look.. like.."
His words faded away quietly when the giant threat loomed above them. He'd just offered his protection.. against that?
Gabby was regretting all of his unlife choices.

Steffani blinked as suddenly, everything seemed to stop. She spun around, staring at the keys jutting out of the ground, her heart aching. Where were their Masters? Who would they fight for? She wandered blindly for a moment through the throng, before quite literally tripping over a swore jutting out of the ground.
That was the one. She grasped the hilt of the sword and drew it free from the ground like butter, sucking in a breath. It was thin, a rapier of sorts, with an ornate hilt. Thread. It was supposed to look like a needle and thread. She grinned a little, weighing it in her hand, and suddenly reality was back.
Gripping the sword tightly, she looked up, staring as the boss shadow suddenly appeared. Swallowing, she swung the sword experimentally, jerking at the shriek it made as the blade swung in an arc.
….
wait.
Was it seriously screaming?! No... No it had to be her imagination, right?
No time to dwell on that, though she did grin before glancing at the boss. Why wait for it to strike first, right? The Patchwork leapt forward, swinging at the creature and landing a solid whack. If this is how she went, she'd go down fighting, Jack damn it.

Just when things were looking up, things got a million times worst.
"Oh Jack...." that thing was huge, too big. Wahhhh Andrew really wanted to go home now. really badly. Too bad it wasn't an option. What was an option though was trying to get rid of it.
Kill it with fire.
He drew up extra energy from his sword and moved a little, closer to behind a large dragon like student. Was it a dragon? He didn't know but he stayed close collecting fireballs in the air around him and then throwing them at the large shadow beast. Was it his imagination or did that do a lot of damage. either way the beast did not look happy.
"Thanks. Try not to die, ok?" were his words of encouragement to the other boil.

Everything, the little beast began to combine, bit by bit into a grotesque shape, one that damien was not looking forward to see. it continue to meld, the chance to breathe was welcomed as he regrouped near the others and helped to reinforce the battle lines. "Hold your ground! keep your distance if at all possible." he tried to give some sage advice as the knowledge to use his blade wafted into their collective consciousness. The blade flew with a type of grace, effortless and true into the stomach of the massive beast, reappearing in his hand like a reaper trick.
"So this is how Reapers must feel like with a weapon, kinda nice." it was thrilling and unusual, for one that did not have access to magics. it was AMAZING.

Well, flames sprouting up so close to her obviously made Maple step a little away from Andrew. It wasn't that she was afraid of fire, but the thought of still getting burned was not an ideal one. His key blade... thing was so much more impressive than her own, she realize.
At least she didn't get to mull it over and think about her own failures as a much larger version of the previous creatures appeared before them. The little witch squeaked in surprise and took a hefty large back. Oh Hecate, did she NOT want to fight that thing. The sudden appearance of a stranger, albeit being a stranger, was welcoming to see. Shielding her - and okay, also Andrew - from the dangers.
As her flame companion (funny how an ice one seemed to be throwing himself in their way) let out a mighty attack, the little witch hoisted her own keyblade into the air - having a much better idea of how to use this thing with her FEAR heals than her own broom - and sent a wave of red colored magic towards Andrew.
This felt, so much more powerful to use. Maple.. kind of wanted to keep this thing (she wasn't going to be able to probably, a pity).

Narrowly avoiding decapitation, he steadied himself on his feet, glaring daggers at Gabby.
“I don’t look anything like those… THINGS!” he countered with a scowl. Efflo had definitely woken up on the wrong side of the bed today and the usually reserved boil was quickly approaching the end of his already short-lived patience. As if to prove it, he swung his keyblade wide, nearly taking out anyone in the near vicinity before it connected with the boss.
The boil trotted back to the group. He frowned; he had hoped that he might have done some real damage instead of merely a… tap. But at least he had done something.
“See! Totally different.” He turned to Andrew, eyeing the demon’s tail with a slight wariness. “I can protect you too, y’know!”
He brandished his blade with a flourish… It would probably be in everyone’s best interests to take a step back.

Steffani recoiled from the attack of the creature, grimacing as she began to feel weary all over again. Still, she had to try. Steffani swung the sword again at the creature, recoiling back quickly but not avoiding the damage it dealt back.
Panting, the Patchwork shrunk back from the creature, moving behind the group of students she fought with. They could handle it while she tried to recover.

Feeling a little braver especially as the key blade seemed to be amplifying his attacks, Andrew stepped out from behind the dragon with another attack, hitting the shadowling again.

Danny, being a seasoned adventure, could feel something stirring in the air. Suddenly keys, keys everywhere. There was one on fire, black and somewhat simple, but she liked it. There was even a little chain with a baseball on the end! Cuuuute.
Well, nothing to do but keep shadowlings off her friends of course! "Alright dudes!" she announced, waving them aside. "Watch this!"
She then shot a few fireballs off the tip of her hands, but along the side of her keyblade, aiming it almost like a gun. It was a good thing she had immense control over her FEAR as a year 3, or this could've gone horribly.
Also one definitely singed Demi's butt.

Now that the room light up, he was feeling a lot more comfortable. Although, Danny's aim seemed to be more than a little off. He wished that she wouldn't agitated the already battling dog. Please Danny no.
"Are you sure you can handle having fire shot around you?" he asked the colt. Andrew apparently had no pride, none at all, because he was content to take people up on the offerings of protection, even if it was a zombie or a ghoul. Some demon he made.

Diana's eyes widened at the sight of the very large shadow creature. She definitely would not call this a shadowling like the others. Growling at the sight of the large creature she mantled her wings and readied her keyblade. She then took flight and flew at the creature swinging her blade in an arc at it, the coins adorning the blade jingling at the movement. "Take this you big thing!" She called out at it as she attacked. She smirked as her attack actually hit and she landed on her feet on the other side of the enemy.
