L I G H T ' S x D A W N Now that her studies for the Diabi were done and over with, the next on her list was the Aedaun which were equally tricky to find. Esmeralda had given herself a month’s rest before actually going out again, she still had a life back home and family to care for. Minerva was home a few times during that time, she was growing up faster and faster each time she saw her. It made her wonder if Minerva missed her, she’d certainly be home more often when she reached Master, but was she missing out on her daughter’s life for work?
The thoughts disturbed her for many days and Esmeralda even asked Minerva to stay home for a few extra days before going off again so they could spend time together. Her daughter had a thirst for learning that was even greater than her own and she was able to discuss dragons with her quite openly. They even reviewed some of her notes together, and Esme told her the plans she had about going out to find the Aedaun. It had been a nice return and they’d done plenty together, but then it was back to work for both of them. This only made her want to attain Master status faster.
The Serenia was beautiful and it was probably one Esmeralda’s top list for finding dragons. The Orderite’s themselves she found a bit stuck up, but hey they lived in a really pretty place. The Aedaun wouldn’t be as tricky to find as the Diabi, nor as daunting to follow because they slept at night and roamed during the day. What she really wanted to find though was a nest and that was going to be the challenging part. Esme figured they’d be well hidden and probably at some crazy height that was going to be hard to even get to.
As it so happened, the Audaun she did find had found some sort of cave hole and called it home. Esmeralda had seen a few of the Hatchlings poking their heads out from the cave when their mother left so she knew she’d found something good. As Esme climbed the mountain she began to focus on the mothers flying patterns to find out when the best time would be to climb down and sketch out the babies. It so happened that it took her two days to reach the top of the mountain an another two days to get the pattern down pat.
Her next few days were climbing down the cliff side and sketching out the sleeping babies inside, she’d time it right when their mother left and when she’d get back. Of course if the mother decided to come back early she would get caught but it didn’t happen. With enough material Esmeralda decided to camp on top of the mountain for a few days before going back home to review her notes and sketches. She even got to draw the mother a few of times to add to her collection, when it came time to leave Esme was glad to be going back home.

M O U N T A I N x R U M B L E Aedaun work finished, Esmeralda returned to her home as per her routine. This time thought instead of staying home she took her daughter to her secret island and they stayed there for a few days. Esme was close to finishing her studies now, perhaps in five months she’d be able to finish everything and be ready to face the masters for her final work. The title was so close at hand, it was like she could taste it. Then she’d be able to settle down and not have to move, maybe she’d teach. In any case, now she’d have real power to do things.
With her vacation over, notes revised and reprinted into her book Esmeralda went on to Eowyn. Gaili weren’t as hard to find, but they were tricky because of how well they could hide with the mountainside. Though they were extremely hard to miss once they began to fly and that’s exactly what Esmeralda would be waiting for. Setting up a tent near the mountain side and waiting for a great big shadow to pass over her. They usually didn’t roam in packs but one was large enough to blot out the sun completely with its body.
Two days into her camping trip and a great shadow passed over her tent, coming out she spotted the Gaili and made sure to track its location on the mountain side. Then it was onto packing and moving as close as she could to get the best view possible. Once she found the perfect spot, she settled down and began her notes and sketches. The sketching was the hardest part since the Gaili quite literally became part of the mountain, that’s what Esmeralda wanted to duplicate on paper. There would be a lot more technical drawings with these dragons that there had been with the previous.
What Esmeralda really did want to find was a nest and that took a little longer to find. The hatchlings were adorable and made quite the ruckus when their mother wasn’t around. It was nice to get a few sketches of the hatchlings because it was quite hard to get the adults when with their camouflage. The only thing here that bothered her was the heat; Eowyn and its heat were just two things she wanted to avoid most of the time. Esmeralda spent most of her time in an oversized hat so the least possible amount of sun could get her.
Not that it really helped, Esme’s light skin burned and she had to return home eventually or risk losing all her skin. She decided then that maybe a slightly longer vacation would be due to help her red skin heal up. So with her sketches and notes, Esme packed up and went back home. Minerva wouldn’t be home for a few more days, she’d have to wait until she returned in a few days before she could visit her. Until then, she would rest, read over her notes and look over some of her sketches.

C O L D x W H E A T H E R If Esmeralda didn’t enjoy the warmth of the desert on Eowyn than she certainly was displeased with the idea of having to go to Aisko to studying the Aiskala dragons. The cold was much worse than the heat, with heart you could find a nice cool spot to stay and take off layers of clothing if you got too warm. There were only so many layers of clothing one could wear and there was not a single spot of permanent spot on the continent. Going to Aisko was the kind of trip that Esmeralda planned extremely carefully before leaving. It wouldn’t be as easy to find shelter or food if something happened to her out there.
From her previous notes, the Aiskala were easy to find. And once she would a good spot with a good number Esmeralda set up her tent in one spot and got to building an igloo around it. It was a technique she’d grabbed from some of the locals. It would take her two whole days to get the whole thing done around her tent but she’d be able to stay in her tent until it was complete. Once that was done the tent could be taken down and used as extra protection if she hitched it up to the walls of the igloo.
Once her location was secure, Esmeralda spent her days in complete white hidden in the white landscape as she watched the dragons. Every few hours she would return to her igloo and draw what she’d seen or write her notes down. The process was painfully long and arduous, but it was only on very very good days she dared take out her sketch book. She couldn’t risk her book getting wet from the snow or getting caught because she was sitting down instead of laying down.
This would be her shortest trip; she had to make it so because she couldn’t deal with the cold for too long. And since she burned more calories she had to eat more. She’d brought more food and quite a bit of extra but she didn’t want to risk it. Plus so far she’s only gotten two very good days and more than a few blizzards where she’d had to stay inside because of the bad weather. Something told her some of the Aiskala who might have seen her had caused the blizzards, but she could never really be sure.
Esmeralda only stayed out there two weeks before having had enough of the weather and returning home. Her notes were a little more scarce than some of her other entries but she didn’t think much of it. At least she wouldn’t have to do a lot of revising from the work which was always a bonus in her mind. She’d probably head to her little island so she could spend a few days in some good weather under the sun. Esmeralda mused about getting too old for this kind of work, but she was almost done. Soon.

B A B Y x O N x F I R E After spending as little time as she could on Aisko for the Aiskala dragons, Esmeralda knew she now had to go back to the blazing heat of Eowyn to find the Firani. It was like going from one end of the weather spectrum to the complete other side. Hot and cold. Esmeralda was Aiming quite high this time too, she knew the best Firani would be found around the volcano and that’s where the hottest temperatures were. Who said studying dragons was an easy thing? Said no one because it wasn’t easy and not everyone could deal with these circumstances.
Esmeralda didn’t plan on studying the Firani very long, but she was partial to the thought. She liked drawing the Firani best, not that she’d admit it out loud, so she was manly going to sketch them and if she saw anythgint hat needed to be recorded she would do so. The hardest thing about studying the Firani was bringing enough water with her so that she would be dehydrated. As a Peisio sometimes it felt like the heat was sucking her dry of all water in her body. Last time she’d had to make routine travels back to a village so that she could recoup.
Still off Esmeralda went to the volcano, she had settled herself a little ways of from the base and had found herself a large group of Firani to observe. If they spotted her she was certain to burn. This close to the volcano these would be very strong Firani, even the babies would be a match for her. Plus, she hadn’t fought or used her powers for fighting in so long she could barely stand up against a regular Firani far from the volcano. The thought that perhaps bringing Minerva along would have been a good idea crossed her mind a few times.
Her daughter had supplied her with orbs and tears to add to her sketches, her collecting was almost complete because of Minerva. Her daughter was growing up to be quite the little adventurer, though Esmeralda couldn’t really be surprised. Younger she herself had spent most of her time out in the wild, that’s where she’d met Ekundayo after all. On that thought, Esmeralda turned the page of her sketch book and started sketching Eku as she remembered him. Even in this kind of heat she could take pause a bit to do something else.
Esmeralda didn’t stay more than two weeks in Eowyn for the Firani. Her previous notes had been pretty full and she was happy with her content on the dragons. Once home, Esmeralda ripped the page she had drawn Ekundayo on from her sketch book and stored it in one of her office drawers. With that done, she got on transferring the old and new info and sketches to a new book to prepare for her presentation in front of the masters. The months were ticking by fast now. She’d be facing the council of master scholars soon.

P L A N T x L I F E Camp had been set up for a few days and Esme had already had a lot of fun. She’d met Keke who was an adventurous little Khehora and she’d even gone on and adventure with him, Muriel, and Minerva. They’d gathered some orbs in the end and over all it had been a great day. They’d part ways with Keke that night and Minerva left a day after he did. Muriel was her only companion by her side. The Peisio Khehora was with her forever even though Muriel usually didn’t go on adventures with Esmeralda. They were spending a lot more time together than before.
The Ysali were the weakest of the Dragons even though they were the most numerous of them. Esmeralda had little to no interest in them but she did want all over information to be accurate and up to date with them so she couldn’t afford not to study them. She was using the same camp over and over again to avoid having to travel with everything over long distances, plus a few people knew she was at this point so it was best to stay here. It wasn’t like the Ysali were very hard to find, one just had to find a green spot and wait t see one.
A few days later she was out going through the forest until she came to a plane. Esmeralda crouched down low as her eyes searched for the Dragons but she found none. The Peisio moved to climb up a tree and see if she could maybe get a better view from there. She spotted some of them in the grass; they were particularly well camouflaged from view from those who hunt them. Esmeralda climbed back down and slowly slinked into the long tall grass herself, she needed to get up close to them if she wanted to draw.
It was hard going as slow as Esmeralda could so she didn’t attract the attention of any of the Ysali. It was also very painful for her muscles that were stiffening every time she had to stand still. Every time she heard something close by she would crouch down even lower and her leg muscles had begun to cramp up and shake. If she didn’t reach a good spot soon she wouldn’t be able to get any work down and she’d have to make a run for it back to the safety of the forest.
That was, until she perfected the technique and then things would be easier to get done. So when the Dovaa finally did reach a place where she could watch the dragons through the shifting blades she settled down and relaxed for a bit to give her muscles a well deserved break. Then it was onto observing and trying to collect data that she didn’t previously have. It didn’t take her very long to collect what she wanted in a few days and then dismiss the Ysali all together. Indeed nothing had changed from her information.

Sulu seemed distraught after the fight when she saw her sister. She doesn't know the cause... I think the blood moon is the problem but Sulu disagrees with me.
