Keke could not wait to see if the dovaa lady scholar was still there. It was an exciting prospect: learning from such an obviously esteemed and interesting looking person!
He was delighted, upon entering the forest, to find her camp still there. “Miss Dragon Scholar!” he called, his wings flaring with his enthusiasm, “I'm back!”
There had been no need to previously move her camp from its last spot, not for a little while anyway. Minerva had left to go hunting and return t their home to gather some supplies; she said she’d be back in a week or so if she could. Esmeralda on the other hand had no need for anything really; she was satisfactory with simply living off the land like she had previously done when she’d been younger. Today was one of those days, the Dovaa was dressed down and picking some fruits from a tree nearby when she heard a voice and came to greet Keke. “Keke, it is so nice to see you again. How have you been?”

“I'm well, I'm well!” he positively wriggled with excitement, wondering – briefly – where the hybrid was. Interesting as she was, though, the hybrid was an adventure for another time. “I want to learn about dragons!” he blurted out. He wanted to learn about everything... but today, it was dragons. Why should he pursue anything else when he had an actual scholar of dragons here to teach him? She wouldn't be there forever, and he had to learn from her while he could.
Then he could turn to other things, like plants and animals. Of course, he would probably learn something about them in the process, but that aside, today...
“Here for a lesson?” Esmeralda’s brows quirked up in surprise, she wasn’t exactly prepared for a lesson. She was actually out hunting for some Ysali to update her information, but she hadn’t gone out to search for them yet. She hadn’t even bothered with bringing out her old notes with her either. Well, couldn’t hurt to go by memory right? She’d been doing this her whole life after all. “Okay well, what would you like to know?” Esmeralda moved to drop her fruit basket by the tent and then settled herself on the grass while leaning back on her hands.

Everything But Keke actually did have specific questions in mind for once. “How big is a dragon? Do they talk? Do they just eat meat, or can they eat berries too?” briefly distracted, he peered into her fruit basket, investigating, before resuming his questioning. “Are they scaled or do they have skin? Are there Aedaun and Diabi dragons too, like khehora?” he figured there were, but he didn't actually know...
Keke was such a whirlwind of questions, Esmeralda laughed. “For their size it depends what kind of Dragon we’re talking about here.” A Diabi was definitely not the same size as a Ysali. “They do not talk, not to us anyway. I am unsure about the Khehora.” They were Dragons too after all, so maybe Keke would enlighten her on this. “They pretty much eat anything they can get their hands on that is edible. Though some Dragons do stick to certain foods, Peisio for example enjoy fish the most.” But they also liked crab and clams and anything from the sea. “As for their hide they –“ There was a loud hoot from up in one of the trees and Esmeralda turned. “Huh, that’s odd.”

Keke absorbed the information like a khehora-shaped sponge. “Well, what about a Gaili dragon?” he asked. It was his clan, after all, so it was a good place to start! More, more: he wanted more information. “Do they like shiny metal?” it was a vague thing he'd heard somewhere, and now was the time to confirm it. “Why don't they talk to...”
He realized she was looking away, and his gaze soon followed hers up into the trees, squinting towards an odd fluffy shape with a ray-like tail. “Oooo!” he said, breathlessly, “It's an Olrawk!” he'd only seen one once before, when he'd been late coming home from a previous excursion into the forests. “It looks very fluffy.” he commented: he honestly didn't know much more about it than it's name, provided by the tribe's shaman. “Do you know anything about that, Miss Dragon Scholar?”
“Very very big.” Esmeralda’s eyes were still searching in the trees for the sound. “An Olrawk?” Esmeralda tuned to him and perked her brow. “How do you know?” That was some sort of creature she believed, but she wasn’t sure. She only rarely had ever gone after two creatures to tame and the rest she hadn’t bothered with, which pretty made her a newbie in that department. “I never really bothered with creatures,” she admitted turning back to him. “Never interested me, though I did try to tame a something when I was younger. Gave up.” She blinked afew times at the name he was giving her. “You can call me Esme.” She chuckled.
“My papa told me.” he replied, squinting up into the trees, thoughfully. “Someone in my clan said they sing for Oblivionites...”
His tail wiggled: he had an idea.
“We should catch it and see if it will sing for the hybrid that was here before...” he said, excitedly, and before better instincts or more rational words could stop him, he leapt up and – with a flap of his wings – managed to get just enough lift to reach the bird with his claws.
It emitted a strangled, very unhappy hoot as he snatched it off the branch, though he managed to keep it from hitting the ground even as it struggled against its talons.
“It's really warm!” he commented happily, sniffing the beast all over.
“Really?” That was certainly interesting, she’d never heard of such a thing and it made her wonder why Ekundayo had never gotten one himself. She glanced at him once when he mentioned the Hybrid. “You mean Minerva my daughter?” Esmeralda watched in horror as Keke flew up and grabbed the poor creature right off its branch as if it was the easiest thing in the world. “Be careful!” her mouth stayed open in a gape, she could not believe he had just done that. “Be gentle with it, now that we’ve caught it we’re going to need to tame it and train it.” who was going to keep it after? Esmeralda certainly didn’t want one.
Lol. Initially i was going to say THEY FAILED TO TAME SO ITS DEAD, but I decided to let it play possum and flee XD
The olrawk struggled to free itself and keke gripped it harder, the feathers seeming to envelop his talons. “Mmhmm!” he said. Yes. Minerva. That was her name, at least he thought it was? “Yes! You'r daughter.” Just as Vazarri was his papa's daughter.
Funny that... Both Minerva and Vazarri were associated with darkness. Did it have anything to do with them being 'daughters?' Keke doubted it, but he would find out, just in case.
“I'm being gentle!” he protested, looking down at the Olrawk... only to find that it had gone limp and still, it's luminous eyes closed. He released it with the speed of youthful guilt and nosed it. “It's just playing, right?” he said, hopefully, as he nudged it.
C'mon he thought, Move...
But it was dead...
Oops
He looked at Esmeralda, embarrassed. “Um...” he hung his head in shame, “I guess I messed up there, huh.”
He looked down at the bird, giving it one more experimental nudge with his foot. He wondered how it would taste... should he just eat it now, or...
Suddenly, it moved, buffeting his face with it's long wings as it made it's escape into the canopy of the trees and far away from Keke's claws.
“Oh wow!” he said, looking after it, “Did you see that?”
