oO________Kata________Oo

Kata was listening to Fray speak about modeling and her art, but her eyes were locked on Vincent's hand. Something deep within was urging her to grab it, but she couldn't place the thought. She noticed the creases on his fingers at the joints, the dirt under the short nails, the bones and veins showing just beneath the skin, every detail she took in. She remembered the way his hand felt in hers. It wasn't the first time she had held a boy's hand, but the feeling this time stuck--like heat on her palm. It was all in her head, but it felt real. She was barely able to catch herself to stop. Why am I staring at his hand?

She looked up immediately to Fraya's face at the mention of food and her stomach remembered it was empty. "Yes, I'm starving." Her eyes flashed open wide and a grin spread across her face, glad to have another person she could hopefully consider a friend, even if she had an odd hair color. She had a skip in her step as she and her companions headed to where they believed the food to be.

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted red hair. She turned to see a girl with red hair and Loki talking. Loki looked distressed, causing Kata to furrow her eyebrows--she felt an urge to go to her side. But then the two began to converse and she saw a smile on Loki's lips. Kata released her eyebrows and smiled her quirky smile at the connections forming around her.

Her friends back home were normal, like herself. Few of them actually did anything rash or different or against their parents' will. If one did do something rash, such as date the wrong kind of guy or even propose the wrong kind of idea, it was quickly remedied by an intervention or glares from her companions. Nothing was left to question when it came to their reputations. Her life back home had been a clean white sheet with no crinkles, creases, or smears. Nothing boring, but yet, nothing exciting. Oh, how things are going to change.

Cristian didn't move or utter a word as the orange haired girl spoke, then left. He was silent again, as the boy who had helped him spoke. He stared blankly at the grass at his feet, but was listening to him. He almost grinned at Marks comment about taking Loki on, especially cause he doubted he could. Just before the boy finished and walked over to the girl, Cristian looked back up. "I didn't kill him...not on purpose..." he said it distantly, quietly, not to anyone in particular though he was looking at the boy. He needed to say it. To someone. Anyone. The boy began walking away, girl in tow and, breaking out of his strange stupor, he took one look towards where Loki had gone. Turning around, he caught up with Mark and Aspen. "Thanks for that...back there." he said, motioning over his shoulder as he walked, "My names Cristian by the way"

Loki was surprised when, instead of another scolding, she was asked if her arm was alright. She looked up at the girl in front of her. She had such bright red hair, Loki caught herself staring. “Oh, um… My arm’s fine.” She heard her growl and looked to see who it was directed at. When she saw It was the girl who poked her nose into the argument, Loki smiled slightly. Looks like we have an annoyance in common, she thought. When the bright haired girl introduced herself as Evelyn, she replied, “Loki,” She did not know what else to say, all of the sudden changes of emotion was tiring and she was confused. She decided to be social and try to forget her anger and confusion for the moment. Evelyn obviously wanted to help her and Loki concluded that help was exactly what she needed. “Nice to meet you," She said quietly, still avoiding direct eye contact. “You know your way around this place? “ She was hungry but she had lost her apatite recently. She would greatly appreciate a tour of the grounds.

After Fraya stopped talking about art and modeling, it went quiet for a moment. Fraya peered up at the group that had just disbanded from what looked like a verbal fight, and Katarina was staring at something. He glanced at her out of the corners of his eyes, wondering on what she was staring at. He glanced at his side; did he have a dirt stain or hole on his pants? Did she spot something on the ground? Whatever it was, she soon broke the gaze and perked up with the mention of food.

His own stomach softly growled, telling him to feed himself. He knew he had to eat soon or painful hunger cramps and nausea would get at him.
“Food sounds g-good,” he commented as he glanced at the group they were following. He silently hoped they wouldn’t join them, the more people meant the more he had to react, and the more he had to react, the more awkward things got for him. He did not show his nervousness and followed a leading Fraya, a skipping Katarina and he followed, doing his usual shuffle.

He glanced behind him, noticing the red-headed girl. He found it hard to not notice her, her hair gave her away so easily. She seemed nice, she was a teaser though, but her teases were friendly, almost has to make her “victim” laugh. She was talking to the girl they had only just separated from less than five minutes ago. What was her name? He went over his memory before he found it, the girl’s name was Loki and the red-head was Evelyn.

Another thing he was good at; remembering faces and names.

Looking back forward he dug his face slightly into the collar of his jacket, which still smelled like his old house back in Germany. He closed his eyes for a second, oh how he missed his mom, he wondered what she was doing, how she was holding out. It had been three weeks since he had first transformed, almost a month. It had taken him almost a month to get here. I should write her a letter, if I can.

Evelyn could see the girl was staring at her hair, she laughed. She really didn’t mind, that was what she got for dying her hair such a bright color! She liked it anyways, made her feel different, easily noticed. “It used to be a light brunette, but that was when I was a child.” She smiled, “Had it this color ever since I was thirteen, oh, were my parents mad!

“Loki? That’s an interesting name, but cute! Nice to meet you,”
Evelyn gave one of her famous grins before looking about. She could tell Loki was getting calm and relaxed, which was good. Evelyn was glad she had walked in on the fight; she wandered what Loki would have been doing if she did not follow. She remembered when Loki jumped down, her eyes were slightly watery, the poor girl probably would have been crying.

“Nope, I was going to explore this place myself. We however, can get lost together! Always travel in pairs!”
Evelyn clapped her hands, clearly enjoying herself. She set her hand on her hip and pointed at Loki, almost in a jokingly, challenging way. “Are you game?” However, before Loki could reply, Evelyn straightened and started to walk, her hands now calmly at her side. She flicked a stray piece of red hair before looking back.

“I’ve noticed quite a diversity around here, people from Germany, America, Sweden and tons more! I come from England myself, you?” She asked, curious. She did not need to know personal details, just wanted to know where on this planet this girl could have come from. Looking back forward, she had a gentle smile on her lips, black eyes their usual playful. Not only was she excited about looking around the school, she was looking forward to see what else could happen on this grand campus.

He plopped down at the chair next to his brother, who already had his guitar in hand. He smiled widely as he opted to put down the apple he had just grabbed from the food line. "Ready?" He looked his brother in the eye; Gael was almost the exact image of him. Jason reached deep into his pocket and pulled out his favorite harmonica. The name had faded on the silver harp instrument from all his playing of it, but he was still proud of it for having lasted as long as it did. It was one of the few things he held dear to his heart. He put the licks up to his mouth and blew quickly into a couple of them for a sound check. The sound rang pleasantly in his ears and before he knew it, he was already making sweet, sweet love to the instrument.

There would soon be a crowd around the two as they played random notes together. It was the Blues. At least, that's how Jason put it. There was no real rhyme or reason to the notes they played; the notes just came to them a second before they were put to play. The music this time seemed to be in better harmony than other times. It could have been because they had been having such a good day already. That wrestling match was a much needed exercise with the two of them. Jason could hear people approaching and talking amongst themselves as they watched the concert between his playing. He didn't open his eyes to see them. He kept his mind focused. He didn't need someone to tell him he was good--he already knew it.

Then, there was that smell. The most intoxicating smell. He'd never smelt anything like it. It was nearly arousing. Jason almost lifted his eyes to see what it was. It was very faint, but it was there. He kept playing, trying to ignore the scent, and soon enough, it was gone; as if it had never been there to begin with. At the end of the song, Jason lifted his eyes and took in a deep breath through his nostrils, trying to catch the scent. But it was really gone. And all that was left to do was to take his bow.

He lifted his eyes once more and looked around the room. He spotted a group of new students. That laughing girl and the guy she was with. But someone new was with them: an orange haired girl. He spotted a couple other new faces, hanging around that kid Mark--he'd been here a while, but had never really been one to socialize with Jason's type of people. Jason smiled at the people still applauding him and his brother. "Thank you, thank you! But please! Please--" a girl he had seen around campus blew him a kiss "--I'll take up on that offer later, but for now: my brother and I--all we want to do is eat." The group of people, mainly women, crowding around them laughed and slowly dispersed.

Once most of them were gone, Jason took a bite out of his apple and turned his eyes to Gael. "Buncha new kids. Girls too. That laughing girl was pretty cute, eh?" He laughed, mocking the brunette, and slapped his brother on the back. "We'll have plenty of time for them later, I s'pose." He took another bite out of his apple and slid his harmonica back in his pocket.

Gael laughed at his brother's comment. "All in good time, hermano." He idly plucked the little e string on his classical guitar, moving the peg on the head in tiny increments, listening for the cleanest pitch. Finally achieving it, he let his arm rest on the guitar. He grabbed the apple out of his brother's hand and took a bite, dripping juice down his chin when Jason swiped it back.

The dark haired man let his eyes rove the dining hall under the cover of his thick lashes. There were a few good looking women, but he'd seen them all before. Except the brunette who'd entered, and maybe a few others. It struck him that there were quite a few new students. It wasn't surprising, they tended to show up in groups.

His bag lay on the floor. A cow-hide leather messenger bag with a richly embroidered strap, greens and grays threaded together in a jagged yet defined pattern. He lifted it, and searched for a rag. He removed the small cloth and swicked down the nylon strings. He inhaled deeply, smelling the fresh cooking smells wafting from the kitchen.

"Maybe today they'll have some decent cow-flesh in here" he joked. Gael and his brother both knew the finest meat, they'd help raise it since they were young. He had to admit, Blackthorn did have some good cuts, but nothing was better than a steak from a Ruiz raised steer.

Gael ran his fingers through his hair, leaning back on the bench he was sitting on. The two of them were getting sideways glances from the girls sitting at all the tables around them. He smiled at a few of them, grinning a little wider at their flustered responses. He placed his guitar gingerly on the table. "Let's go, I want some real food already."

Loki smiled at the the parents comment and nodded. Her own father had not been thrilled when she had come home one evening with burgundy highlights in her hair, but he got used to it and actually complemented it one day out of the blue. Oh Dad... She thought glumly. She rubbed her head where he used to kiss her, right on the faded scar, as if to help it heal and disappear. It never did, and never will completely.

Brought back to Earth by Evelyn's comment about her name, Loki replied, "You think my name is cute? Thats a first." She shrugged when she found out that Evelyn was also new. "Sure lets get lost together. Sounds adventurous." She fell in step besides her new friend. Are we considered friends yet? "England huh? I'm from America, Colorado more precisely." Loki looked at the sky and was delighted to see the two doves fluttering about. That same smile spread across her face again, her previous depressions forgotten.

You ask me why I'm reckless....

Asp smiled at the boy when she heard him. "Asp" she replied, pointing to her cheek. She mock-lowered her voice. "And that's the mighty Book-Flinger leading us". She winked light-heartedly and heard a barely audible snort from the boy in front of them.

She watched the boy. He seemed heavy, like he was carrying some invisible burden. The grass under her feet tickled, the dew beginning to dry in the morning warmth. She started to smell food as they approached the dark-stoned Lunare. The lighter gray stone paving the way to the front entrance was noticeably cooler, the sun on the ground not quite reaching it yet.

Asp wondered when she was going to get used to the grandeur of this place. The imposing hand-carved wooden doors seemed as if they could swallow the three of them without moving. She squinted, trying to discern the shapes in the wood. She recognized a wolf on it's hind legs, playing a lute, stars above its head. Another area showed a hawk with some kind of thorny branch in its mouth, another wolf reaching to accept it. She'd never seen anything like them. Suddenly she realized something. She knew nothing of her species' history. She was one of these wolves, and she had no idea of their stories; their heroes and villains, their suffering and triumphs. But instead of sadness, she felt elated. In only a few days she would know these stories. A smile crossed her face.

.....And I'll respond with, "Why aren't you?"

Mark teased the girl with a few more minutes of silence before finally turning. "My name is Mark," he said, walking backwards, "I'm glad you came along, Christian". The girl had called herself Asp, and he realized she was a new student. He had a knack for words. They stuck in his head, even names. That's why he loved literature. It was always familiar, but seemed like something new every time he turned the pages.

The imposing structure of Lunare shaded the group of three as they approached the huge set of doors. Mark reached forward, opening the door for the two of them. The enormous foyer was lit by the light streaming through the pale blue and crystal windows inside. The marble floor was a deep-blue tinted marble, veins of quartz ran through it, adding sparkle, like galaxies across the floor.

A double staircase led the way to upstairs, framing the long hall that reached the dining hall. "Food this way". The smells of food cooking and sounds of clinking glassware, dishes and silverware bounced down the hallway. He smiled at Asp. "Hopefully you break anything while we're here".

Cristian chuckled at Asp calling the man "the mighty book-flinger", he decided he'd ask how he got that name later on. He heard the man call himself Mark, and was happy that he was glad to have him along. "It's my pleasure" Cristian said as he walked. As they entered the foyer, if Cristian was amazed at the beauty outside, he was awe-struck at the beauty within. Being a fan of geology, the sheer wonder of the marble beneath his feet made him want to study it again. He was wondering if they taught geology, but then he smelled the food, and all thoughts of classes drifted from his mind.

What's my problem?...

Loki was enjoying the walk with Evelyn, the sun, the doves. A thought occurred to her. "Hey Evelyn, can I call you Evie? You think we can stop by my room for a spell? I want to grab something." Loki wanted to to grab her knapsack and fish out that stale bread that had been in there for two days. Thor and Freya would love it! She looked back up in the sky, absently heading in the direction of her room. She also had to find out her class schedule, meet her teachers, and find out where to wash the cloak she had bloodied the night before.

... its a long story

Mark noticed Christian's awed look, and the attention he paid to the shining floor. He picked up the pace a little, the smell of the kitchen's food now filling his nose. "Here we are". He lifted his arm and presented the dining hall. It was a long rectangular room with many tables. The tables were made of dark wood, and accompanied by chairs and benches. The inside walls were a medium taupe, the ceiling painted to show a brilliant night sky. Marble also covered this floor, but it was a paler blue gray with dark veins. The effect of the room was like standing on water, the night sky above.

Mark waited a few minutes while the two took in the sight. The far wall of the dining hall was set up buffet style. But instead of large tubs of food, there were plates, already made up, many different meals represented down the length of the hall.

He started walking towards the food, and turned to speak to the two. "Help yourselves, and pick a table, I might come sit with you". He turned and walked to the food. There was a pork dish at the middle. It was glazed with apricot, and tiny cloves stuck out from the top. He grabbed one of the plates and continued down the line, hearing an annoying repetitive sound. He knew it to be a guitar string, and only one person he knew of was even good enough to play it in the dining hall. Mark glanced out of the corner of his eye and saw the twins. Dammit He'd hoped they wouldn't be there. The last thing he wanted was to be responsible for leading another innocent girl into their clutches. At least it looks like they're done performing

He continued down the line, careful not to openly look behind him. The Casanova twins loved to go after new girls, and though Mark felt nothing but the urge to tease Asp, he still didn't want them getting to her. He scratched the back of his head. Whatever, if she's stupid enough, let her. He picked up a few more things and a glass of iced tea with a sprig of mint. He looked down the hall for Christian, watching to see if he'd choose a table.

Evelyn saw her rub the scar, and her eyes flashed with slight curiosity but she did not ask. It was not her place. “America? That’s cool! I kind of want to go there, maybe after I graduate from Blackthorn,” she shrugged, looking back forward, “I don’t know. I’ve noticed that werewolves live for a long time – maybe we’re even immortal, I don’t know – so I’m going to take time with my life. Unlike so many others, I can experience and grow up and take my life slowly.” Evelyn glanced up to where Loki was staring up and noticed the two doves herself. She raised a brow, that sight was interesting. It had been a long time she had seen two doves together, maybe it was a sign!

Evelyn rolled her eyes at herself, whatever. She heard Loki’s questions and Evelyn laughed.
“You can call me whatever you want!” And she nodded, turning around and tracing back her steps toward the dorms. “Sure,” As they walked, she could smell food and she watched people enter the Lunare Dorm, “I guess that is where the food is. I can wait to eat later, when you’re hungry, just tell me and we can swing by there.”

She grinned and looked back forward, running a hand through her red, straight locks and she started to hum a song she knew from her child-hood. The day was really lovely and could not get any better than this.
