((Damn, my time is officially limited. If I suddenly disappear, it's because my mother has unleashed her wrath.))
Lia's eyes widened when the creature formed, widened more when it came towards her, and her shoulders relaxed a bit when Alec pulled the creature back.
"Because magic twists to suit the person it inhabits, Professor, in my opinion. No white magic user ever tried to make horrible creaures because it wouldn't cross their minds to do so. The same goes for black magic users and healing. It's simply not in their nature to perform a good, decent, selfless act, and so nothing in their...magical repitouires would let them do so. You were angry, therefore your magic fed off that anger and allowed you produce such a beast. But the line is drawn there because you, a white magic user, would pull such a creature back before it could cause harm, whereas a dark magic user would've thrived on the violence. Is that not where we get the distinction, professor?" She asked, remembering the sentiments she'd been taught at her mother's knee.

Athena scowled darkly at Ophelia's disgusting description of why. "Magic forms to your needs. You can have only the magic you are born with, but from it you can create what you desire, what you wish to happen, so long as you know how. It does not cater that light magic users can only do well, or that dark magic users can only do evil, nor that the other types can only do that which their ancestors have done."

"Then obviously, the things dark magic users desire is only violence and monstrosities, seeing as that's the only thing history has them ever producing." Lia insisted, miffed that someone would dare disagree with her.

Arzol plopped down in the chair, crossing his feet at the ankles.
"Because Shadow Runner went and took the jump, so you figure I've got some clue as to where the damned foagies spirited her soul off to." He said, rolling his eyes at the thought of the Ancients.

Lin had thought she was onto something. While she had been in the library, one of the students that had been in one of Dymetri's classes had come in with some friends and was talking about how that specific class was canceled that night. He was disappointed because he had been looking forward to learning about how to revive creatures with certain herbs. Dymetri was supposed to teach that tonight.
How had she been lucky enough that Dymetri was going to teach that tonight and that the student had said enough for Lin to know where to look to find out more information about that subject?!
And how unlucky did she have to be to discover that none of what she found would bring Dymetri back? She kept coming back to the same roadblock. Since Dymetri was partly made up of dark magic, it had to be dark magic that brought him back. Lin would NOT use dark magic to bring Dymetri back. Not only did she despite dark magic and it also made her sick, but that first day she and Dymetri had really talked, he told her how he had been horrifically turned to a dark vampire creature against his will. He had been doing something he thought was good and right by taking in that little girl he thought needed help. He had then been backstabbed by that very girl turning him into a vampire. It didn't take a genius to see that if he had had the choice, Dymetri would not have been turned.
So Lin would not do the same thing to Dymetri. She would not force him into another body that was filled with dark magic. It would be utter torture for him. No, she would not do that. She would find a better way to bring him back.
Lin's eyes were starting to blur, though. She had even yawned a few moments ago. She couldn't remember the last time she had yawned. She looked up at a clock on the wall in the library and saw that she was missing Professor Leaton's class right now. She didn't care. She knew that she would miss classes until she found a solution to bringing Dymetri back. But what she didn't like was that she was getting tired, and especially at such an early time of day.
But then she remembered that her pendant of spring water was broken. She didn't have spring water with her right now. That's what had led to all of this mess. So she would be weak until she got more. It would just get worse each day, but she knew that she could get more later.
Lin sighed and stood up to get some more books and put back some of the ones she had used already and knew she didn't need anymore.

"No," Athena countered, "it is simply propaganda; those who tried to do good were never recognized, their attempts fading into the background."

"That," Ialo said cheerily, "And you know a LOT about her. About her midnight trips, her second and third job, her connections to certain demonfolk. I'm right, aren't I?" He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms, a tiny arrogant grin on his face despite the exhaustion apparent.

Alec was seriously tempted to let the beast devour Lia on the spot for her blatant thick-headedness. But she had made a slightly intelligent point, and Alec had to address this. "You're half right Ms. Rinaldi. Magic does twist to the user's will. If one wills it, it will happen. But you're wrong on many other accounts. For one, I am not simply a white magic user. Nor am I just a fire user, an earth shaker, a water bender, an air shifter, or a dark conjurer. I am in fact an Elementalist if you must put a name to it. I decided to branch out to all of the fields of magic, go straight to the source if you will." Alec turned to look at Athena who had made an intelligent response as well. "And as Athena said also, no one is wholly good or evil. There are many shades of gray in this world. But Athena, you're slightly wrong on one point. People are not bound to the magics that they are 'born' with, they simply are better at controlling those than others. You could just as easily move the earth beneath you as you can create a flame in your hands if you put your mind to it. But that's another lecture." Alec then dissipated the beast with a swish of the 'leash', making a loud snapping sound as it dissipated in a flash of purely white light.
"And I can emphasize the other end of this spectrum just as easily. Observe." Alec then held out his right hand, which was now visibly growing larger than normal nails. When his nails were a good inch and a half long, Alec suddenly lashed out at his left arm, raking the nails through his own flesh. Alec needed a fresh wound to show what he needed to show, but damn did it hurt! Alec's shirt was visibly torn, and bits of flesh were actually hanging off of his arm now in ribbons. It was a gruesome sight to be sure. But what happened next would be even weirder for most. Alec then conjured a blob of seething, writhing dark energy in his right hand and held it over the wound. Rather than scream in utter agony, a look of contentment spread over Alec's face. Alec held the blob on his arm for a few more minutes before he removed it. When he did, his shirt was still torn horribly, but his arm was perfectly fine! Not even a scar was left from what Alec had done to himself. Alec looked on at his astonished class as he continued. "THIS is the ultimate lesson here. Dark and Light magic are not good or evil. They are simply energy, and energy cannot have morals. It is PEOPLE that make them out to be good or evil."
Alec waited a few minutes to let this solid statement sink in to his student's minds. Alec had a feeling that Lia was going to be utterly stubborn once again, but she was one of many. He would deal with her later if need be.

"And if I do? What's it to you? It's not like any of ya cared what the hell kind of crap she got herself into in the demon world when she was alive. What's it matter now that she's kicked the bucket?" He demanded, pleased he remembered some of the slang from his 'So You're Going to The Top World' Phrase Book he'd gotten in Hell. It usually served well for demons posing as humans to try and lure souls to the 'dark side'.

Lia merely rolled her eyes, losing patience. Why in the world was the man trying to justify the actions of monsters?
"Well then, if a person is so good, why would they ever choose to use the black of hell to symbolize their magic whether than the light of heaven? It was their choice to let their magic take such a form, if we go with your theory, so wouldn't that mean that those who choose to let their magic take such a form, choose to branch out into that area, mean that they at least somewhat had bad intentions for their magic, if they focused on spells that bring about demons and darkness instead of healing for a living?" She demanded, her eyes narrowing.

"Guilt," the Headmaster said honestly. "In my case, I've got a score to keep, and Danni is a point I'm not going to let go to the other side. That, and she's my responsibility under Danish law. Inconvenient things can happen to me. So are you going to tell me or what?"

Alec no longer had any patience for Lia's outbursts. He looked at the clock on the back wall, saw that class was almost over and decided to utilize some of his powers as teacher to make the best example he could to Ms. Ophelia Rinaldi. Alec looked her straight in the eye and gave her a long, cold stare as he said, "Ms. Rinaldi, it seems that you have made it onto my 'tough nut to crack' list. You will stay after class." Alec then turned to the rest of the class, glad to see that his point had been made to many of them by the looks on their faces. "As for the rest of you, seeing as class is almost over you are all dismissed. I ask that you take today's lesson and reflect on how you view other people because of it. Just because someone appears one way doesn't mean that they are. Never take things at face value."
Alec sat behind his desk as he watched his students shuffle out the door. None of them wanted to look him in the eye of course, they were all far too self conscious right now to do that. But the fact that many of them were staring at their feet in utter shame spoke volumes about the strength of Alec's lecture. Alec watched as all of his students left, nodding at the last one out to shut the door. The student in question did so obediently, leaving Alec and Lia alone in the room. Alec kept eye contact with her, fully expecting her to say something horribly self righteous and bigoted about the whole situation.

As she left, Athena gave Alec a brief, slightly bitter smile. It was bitter in that his words no longer could help Danni, and she herself had to think on what he'd said. She didn't quite understand how people could use any magic they wanted to; she had tried before, to use light magic, but it hadn't worked for her. She'd tried dark magic, and it also was in vain. Generic magic was fine, and alchemy--well, she stopped herself, alchemy isn't technically magic. By all technicalities, it is a science.
But she still wasn't sure what he meant. From her independent research, she had found that all magics were made of different types of energy--generic, general magic was a blend of all magic, accessible thusly by anyone. But if you were of a certain wavelength or whatever it was that defined whether your body held light or dark or demonic magic, then you could use only that denomination, not the others (the exception being general magic, as was said before). Had she learned wrong? Or had she simply misunderstood what Alec had been trying to say?

Kai had been leaning against Alec's door the entire time, snickering to himself, as Lia and Alec argued. It had been quite a while since he heard such thoughts against dark magic and even longer since one so adamant about the subject. While Lia's words didn't spark rage in him like they would have so many years ago (he's on a different timeline) they did Spark pity for the girls ignorance. It must have been hard for Lia, normally siblings have rivalries and resentment for each other at points, but to have an entire families hate towards one your sister to reinforce that resentment would most assuredly drive a kid crazy.
As he heard alec dismiss the class, and heard him ask for Lia's presence afterward Kai placed his head against the wall waiting for the last of the students to funnel out before leaning towards the door again.

Lia's perfectly waxed brows rose up in shock when Alec told her to remain after class. "So I'm to be singled out, is it, because I've an opinion that doesn't jibe with your convoluted theory?" She demanded, narrowing her icy blue eyes.
