Perhaps, were you to study the nature of magic, you would lose your fear of it. Like with people who are afraid of snakes and do some background research, it can actually be very helpful. Especially if it takes away a groundless fear.

I refuse to read books about/meant for teenagers (e.g. Gossip Girl). They tend to have no real plot and the characters are dull.

i refuse to read anything where the big macho man saves the poor whimpering lady who is too weak or two stupid to help herself in anyway... it really just sets my blood to boil, i got tired of it after, say, four books and was waaaay over done, though it has gotten better recently 3nodding

any hairy potter book. i hate wizards. somthing about pointing a stick at somthing, mumbling in latin, and then having magic s**t happen with no explanation of how or why it worked just pisses me off. >.<

only books with magic i like are the WoT series, but thats because they go into depth about the workings and causes of it.

Cathrine Cookson is one I twitch to. My OLDER female relatives love her. Ergh! I can't stand romance novels.
Homicide/Detective books also make me cringe. I personally don't like reading pages of reports being filed and so forth. Just a bit dull for me smile

Romance novels of 2 specific breeds:

1) the cheap ones with the really "sexy" pics on the front, they just gross me out

2) Christian-authored novels about Amish people and the like. Don't get me wrong - I am a Christian who is not ashamed of her beliefs, and I admire the Amish, but authors who write "Christian romance" are not trying to be holy and good like some might want you to think, they're trying to sell to people who want a "Christian" substitute for the trashy romances. The motivation is all off. OK end of rant.

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. I just finished this novel for my AP English class, and I detested it as much as the teacher did (ironic huh?).

The book tells the story of a man who emigrates to Chicago and is forced to live a life of social destruction, political debacle and death(s). The entire thing is so descriptive, with paragraphs breaking every other page. Especially towards the end when socialism becomes a significant issue, I just didn't feel like reading anymore.

I kept an open mind, and paid for it dearly stressed . NEVER, EVER, EVER read Maddox's book The Alphabet of Manliness. THe title alone should tip you off to what a sexist book this is, but I don't know what I was thinking (or even if I was) when I bought it. Just... Don't. Please, for me. And my sanity. Maddox is a sexist b*****d and I will never look at his crappy picture with anything remotely resembling respect again. There, I got that out of my system. whee

Ugh.
The rest of the Uglies series. The first book was absolutley horrible!!! The ending was good. By ending I mean last like...3 pages or something! I refuse to finish that series. Eck.
Other books I refuse to read are the sci-fi books that have the covers with the girl and wolves. They look so boring and so...like...boring! I don't even want to read what it's about!
Romance I can deal with. Teen romance mostly. I like the Vampire stories and all the supernatural stuff in the teen books and stuff. I like adult books. I like the murder stories, I guess I kinda think they're like Law and Order. lol.
David Clement-Davies...Boring author! Don't read any of his books except "The Sight" that was a good book. I just recently finished the sequel to that and it took me like a month to read it. It was so boring! Everything was so detailed and it was like 'I don't care!' So...I suggest not to read any of his books. I didn't even finish "Fire Bringer". I read 100 pages and dropped the book.
Yeah. biggrin
