▨✥▨

『Into ƚhҽ Đαɾƙnҽss – Phase Two: A』

▨✥▨

[Scene: The interior of a volcano, cylindrical, along one edge is a series of uneven cliffs by which metal scaffolding has been erected to form a series of small bridges. It was very makeshift, some edges with railing, and others without. At the end a large, and advanced looking metal door with a vault-like appearance. The air is caustic and anyone not wearing a gas mask will suffer from dizziness, and pass out within a matter of a few posts and die within 12]

The roiled lava below bubbled and hissed with putrid appetite for all that it came into contact with. The caustic fumes floated up in waves of heat that caused even the most cool brow to sweat. Ora would start to feel dizzy as her lungs began to slowly burn. The internal maze that was her lungs felt as if sand paper was being slowly brushed against each and every inch.

A few students (NPCs) stopped at the scaffolding, too scared to cross. A boy held his girlfriend who seemed to break down in tears at the sight of lava below. Some would think this a rather wondrous sight, but when confronted with the very reality that one could simply fall to their death and end up a charred mess -- it was much more troublesome. One of the metal scaffold bridges creaked as Adam stepped on it, right before he was about to place his full weight the bridge bent under the partial weight, which was just enough to make it lose its position and topple to the molten orange goo below. The metal plank smacked into the cliff wall a few times as it spun around in circles and eventually sunk deep into the lava. This is what prevented those in the middle from continuing on. They needed to repair the bridge if they were to continue, and in order for those ahead to get back safely.

[Everyone on the scaffolding roll a d10 to look for pieces to fix the bridge, we need 3 of you to get 7 or higher in order to repair the bridge.]

Darius, Ora, Narx, Lunia, Lena, Vance [correct me if I am wrong, but I believe these are those who made it across. Keep true to your roll if I got it wrong and let me know -- no worries], reached airtight vault door across the scaffolding. They see something disturbing as they approach it. Two bodies that appear to be female lay on the ground. Students by the look of it.

where they can all see a dusty, but active digital screen. The screen senses the presence of bodies outside and flickers to life. The screen has a text box with some words written above it. It appears to be a riddle of sorts. They needed to find the password, the answer, in order to open the door.

"We are the Everguard.

Eyes set, without regret.
Tooth, claw, and stone.

Perched up high.
From our mouths we cry, but never alone.

With faces wrong, and an army strong.
We scare the angry spirits away.

We are the Everguard.
A false and charred display."

(By your Capt'n Narx)

[When you answer correctly in your post, I will make a small mod post showing the door open. Do not enter until I do so. Do not message me privately with your answer, I will not tell you if you are correct unless I see it in a post as your character's guess! Just type it into the console on the vault door!]

Beside the door there seemed to be an aged sentry robot. Obviously of Atlassian design. It didn't seem functional and had quote a bit of volcanic dust on its metal body. Whether this would activate if they got enough wrong answers was uncertain. Lunia would feel a strange tingle on the back of her neck. The feeling as if something was watching her. It wasn't coming from the sentry bot though. It was from somewhere else. Nothing out of the ordinary could be heard though. Just the rhythmic hissing and hollow echoes of lava bubbles growing in size and popping with gaseous fumes.

“Inspiration is found everywhere you look.
The trick is to capture it and make it something your own."

Vance Merlo
[The Artist]
Team: LMAA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vance was really worried about the faunus that didn't have her mask on, not knowing what was going to happen to her. He needed to do something before anything bad could happen to her, and began to check around him for a possible way inside. The boy didn't know the status of what it was like inside, but with the vault-like appearance of the door, it was possible safer then where they were. His attention was removed from the door when he heard the crashing metal behind him and quickly turned to see that part of the scaffolding had broken off from the makeshift bridge. Vance felt a bit of panic seeing their way out fall into the unforgivable lava, but with him being on the opposite side, he would need to trust in the others with what they came up with. He attention returned to the door to see something that continued to fuel the dread with the appearance of two girls, students, in front of where they needed to get in. The boy wondered how long the two had been here, or more importantly, why they had come here. From the corner of his eye, he saw something shine and like a moth to a flame, Vance's curiosity got the best of him and walked over to what it was.

He looked at the screen first and looked up to the words that written above in a text box, reading what had been written. The riddle was interesting and in the back of his mind, the boy felt he might know the answer to this problem. There were many of creatures that had teeth and claws, but the stone part of the riddle caught the boy's attention. This feeling came again when he read the part about the being perched up high and that hey scare angry spirits away. His hand moved to the screen, but stopped, hesitating as he question what if the answer was wrong. "Hey guys! I think this might be the away in." The boy called out to the others to get their attention and come over to see the riddle and together come up with a solution. However, as he waited for a response he would look again at the device, wondering if what he was thinking was right. As an artist, Vance had gotten many ideas from looking at old books and exploring different parts in town for the paintings he made. In this time of thought, he would talk to himself as his guess passed his lips, unaware if the lock had a voice sensor. "Could it be... Gargoyles?"

Darius had taken the relative lead for the second group, having been the one to organize it all. He likely felt responsible for them, and their safety, given they were following his plan and his natural leader instinct taking over. It may even be taken as him just filling into his natural role, given Darius was the leader of a team. He noted the first group had safely made it across, which was good. The second group was also progressing quite nicely here. The mysterious door slowly would come closer and closer into view, making him wonder what secrets it held and if it was worth all the effort for it. Darius was also likely thinking about the two missing members of his team, and why they hadn't been found yet. The toxic gas warning was not something Darius would've known, and not something his team would've been prepared for. There had also been no Grimm seen up to this point either, which at least could be some reassurance that the others had a chance of making it. He had yet to reveal to the entire group what had occurred, them being pressed by the teacher escort to move forward and having to deal with this obstacle. 'Perhaps, with this group, we shall be able to overcome any obstacles in our way and succeed in our goals.'
He thought to himself with a measure of hope.

The heat of the volcano was not something lost to Darius as sweat flowed lightly down his back. He missed the cool of the cave at this point and hoped whatever was behind the door was also in some type of air conditioning. 'If someone could afford a place like this, no matter when it was made, it should provide some comfort to those within.' He thought to himself. Though thoughts of why it would even be here circled through his mind, he pushed it away for now. He had to focus, given the terrain was not exactly the safest. With such a ramshackle seeming path, he couldn't help but wonder if a safer one existed perhaps somewhere. Then...everything went to hell. He had subconsciously moved a bit more ahead of the group, his parkour skill making him travel across this area a lot faster than most. But...it seemed the second crossing proved too much for a segment of the bridge. He heard something creak...then a lot of louder noises as the sound of falling scaffolding came from behind him. Which made him bolt. His natural parkour skill helped him navigate the treacherous terrain, though in his haste...much more scaffolding would fall in places it was weak. The blue haired student would jump as the last piece of scaffolding near the group by the door fell, hitting the ground flat with an "Oof!" as that segment fell down into the lava. Slowly, taking a deep breath first, he would rise and look behind him. While before there had only been one segment missing to repair...there was a few more at random points between those by the door and those on the scaffolding bridge, which may take a few more attempts to fix. If they could find the wood, they should be able to patch it up still. He hoped. 'On the bright side...we found where some more weak sections were.' He thought to himself as he sighed.

"I am so sorry abou- No!" He would begin to say as he turned to face the group that had safely made it across, before his eyes had landed on two female students. More specifically, Darius' teammates. He would rush past the others, not really focused on them and ignoring the robot along with the riddle, as he fell to his knees in front of them. "Esmeralda...Alexandria..." He would say, voice choked a bit as his eyes seemed to stare there. Thus, the rest of Darius' team was found...dead. Whether it was the fumes that got them or not could not be told without moving or examining the bodies more. Darius though was in no shape to do so. His eyes had an almost unfocused look to them as there may have been a tear or two shed down his cheek, though it would be very hard to tell with the gas mask on. He should be able to hear everything going around him but would seem unresponsive to it all, given the circumstances. Many many thoughts were going through his mind at coming across the fate of team Cape. His hands were together in his lap, seeming to be just looking for something to cling to or do in this moment. While in front of the bodies, his vision could still technically encompass the robot and the scanner Vance had been at. But at that moment...it mattered very little. Darius would not care at all about the door for now, not upon seeing what happened to his team. The mission had held no sway to him other than a way to look for his team, though in retrospect it may have been better if he never reached this point.

The pain from the heat not getting to her as much as the scratching feeling in her lungs. Her vision was starting to get blurry. It was like the air was trying to choke her out. She'd been through this before. She always came back. It wasn't as bad as being drowned while being tied down. She was tough, this mission couldn't kill her. She had something to live for, she needed to help bring her people to safety. Her mission wasn't over yet.

Vance would come over. What did he want? Yes, he was on a team with Lunia and the monster, but why did he want to talk to her? Her eyes seemed unfocused on him. She was dizzy. She wasn't reaching for the gas mask though. She would rather die than put on another mask. A cough would then rack her body. The burning hurt, she would raise an elbow to her mouth to cough into it. Blood would appear there. She would put down her elbow. She'd then look at Vance, he left without an answer. It was getting harder to stand. She would lean more of her body against the stone, it turning her armor a shade of red. She wasn't gona die, she had a mission to complete... Her eyes would start to close, and then slowly open back up.

What sort of sociopath would put a riddle at a door? Lena would, She admittedly would have done so. As a few others made it up a guess had been proposed. "It makes sense. Gargoyle. We should get ready just in case it is wrong." The noxious gas wasn’t affecting Lena, purely because she always wore a gas mask. Turning to check on Ora and Felix, trying to see if they were close. The Wasp Faunus would make her way over to Ora, lifting up the gas mask. "Ora... these fumes, this gas, will kill you. For me, for Jazz, for Felix put this on. You won’t make it through the mission without it." Though her voice was calm, her eyes were pleading for Ora to listen. Ora listened to very few people and Lena just hoped for this it would be her. "Please Ora, I need you."

Cecil walked along with Adam and Azura as he watched the other group easily cross it. But as the creaks began to get louder, Cecil stopped himself and Azura as Adam walked forward. "Wait! Adam!" Just as Cecil shouted, Adam had put more of his weight on it and with Cecil's help, managed to pull the man from avoiding his fall. Cecil looked down into the hole as he could see the molten abyss below. He backed away and began to look around as he backed up with Azura and Adam. "Dammit.... we almost fell down there..... we could've been obliterated." Cecil was muttering under his breath, his face already growing sweaty before he looked back to the others. "Can anyone think of a way to get the bridge re-completed?" He asked of those who remained on the bridge with them and who were still at the back waiting to cross. "We need to fix the bridge for a stable walking platform, and ice won't cut it here." He told them all as he was slowly beginning to breath heavily. He wiped away the sweat from his brow using his sleeve but the gas-mask was definitely not helping with keeping his sweat out from the lower half of his face.

Azura Knight

Azura studied the scaffolding somewhat skeptically while the first group of students began to cross. It didn't look stable at all. Even with splitting up into groups, she wasn't sure crossing was the wisest idea. Who had put it here in the first place, and did it have anything to do with the smell of gun powder earlier that had accompanied the cave in? Surely the exploration could continue after they brought in something to stabilize the scaffolding. From what they had been told it wasn't as if it wasn't an emergency that wouldn't wait a few hours. At least based on the information they had. She glanced back at the robot and Professor Anderson before sighing softly. "This is a bad idea." She said to Adam and Cecil, her voice muffled by the gas mask. The group was going through, and even though she thought it was a bad idea Azura would go as well, to protect her fellow huntsman. She did take out Crimson Regret and switch ou the normal bullets for her ice rounds. If they were going to be needed now was the time.

Finally, it was their turn to cross. Azura held onto her weapon in sniper mode, prepared as always. The bridge creaked ominously as they moved, lava churning below. She could feel the sweat run down her back and wondered how Cecil was fairing in the heat. Only one more plank and their feet would be safely on the other side. Adam went to step forward when Cecil suddenly pulled him back. Azura watched as the sheet of metal twirled downward, before quickly melting into the lava. Their way forward forever lost. Cecil was right. Even if they could span the gap, ice wouldn't last long and if there was one way to slip and fall into a lake of lava, trying to cross a wet melting ice bridge was the way to do it. "What about a rope bridge with our paracord ropes?" She suggested while glancing around to see what other supplies they had. Half their group was on the other side of the gap with no way to escape if grimm attacked. Her eyes fell on a long metal pole laying on the ground. It looked to be of the same material as the scaffolding, though she had no idea what it was doing laying here. Perhaps forgotten during construction? Azura picked it up. "Not enough for a bridge, but it's a start." At least if they couldn't find any other pieces, it would help with her rope bridge idea.

Lunia let out a deep sigh, she felt like she could barely breathe where they were. She hadn't even taken in the surroundings before she caught the sight of two bodies on the ground, her eyes opened in complete shock - she went to step towards them before she watched a male student run at them and bend down. She moved over towards him, and bent down, placing her hand on his shoulder. Lunia didn't even know the man, but she was absolutely devastated for him, and had suffered from severe loss in her life. "I-I'm so sorry.." she said, unsure of what else to say to him. Lunia looked at the bodies, she had an idea of how she could help - her semblance. "If you want, I can cover them?" she asked, "Protect their bodies, until we can take them home..." she added, trying to show she was helping.

Lunia looked to her teammate Vance, he seemed to be figuring out the puzzle. She nodded at him gently, agreeing with his answer. There was something else weird about it all though, she couldn't shift the feeling that something or someone was watching them. Lunia kept feeling a tingle on the back of her back, she kept scratching it, becoming a little more agitated as it kept happening.

                                                          out. of. control.

XXXDespite the students that stopped in fear, or those who had so much of an inkling of intelligence to hold back as the metal pieces whined and creaked under their weight. Not Rachel, though. While she may not have been as gung-ho on crossing as the others who ran across the bridge, she did not deter in the face of danger. Perhaps it was due to Rachel's overwhelming sense of bravery, or simply because of her unrivaled ignorance. Not to mention her being infamously known for how relentlessly stubborn she was. She refused to let the burning and toxic fumes get her down. While she strode forward standing tall as a pinnacle of strength, she instinctively held her breath and refused to talk anymore as she crossed the bridge. Her maw was clamped tightly shut while licks of caustic fumes agitated her nose. She refused to inhale, though. A trait that seemed to be matched by a sheep faunus that ran off further ahead. The woman would hold strong as she reached the middle point of the bridge, each step causing the metal contraption to creak and whine beneath her weight. It wasn't until she reached the halfway point had her chest truly began to feel the strain. All her time swimming had trained her lungs for this moment, but the intensity of the heat made it that much harder to keep her breath. She needed to cool down, she needed to breathe while beads of sweat spotted her shoulders, forehead, and chest like dewdrops before becoming a glistening sheen.
Though ready to proceed forward, the woman had her wrist snatched by what felt like the hood of a car sitting out in the sun on a hot summer day. Heated metal that lightly burned against her skin, though barely noticeable from the intensity of the heat around them. Rachel would stop in her tracks, her pupils shrinking as her eyes grew wide in fury as she turned on her heel. In the blink of an eye, her free hand was grappled around what would be the throat of the machine, the vambraces around her wrist littered with sharp enamel protrusions that were ready to be fired into the machine. The leg she had carried over her shoulder was now hanging limping, hooked on her anchor. "What the ******** are you doing? Why are you talking?" The woman shouted, her words followed with a scowl as she sharply inhaled to spit such venomous words. The burning fumes had traveled to her lungs, a horrid sensation began to assault her chest. After just a few moments, she could feel her head lightly spinning, but her grip remained tight. That was when Adam took one unstable step next to her, causing the scaffolding to plummet to the molten see below. "Look. I don't care what you want, or what you have to say. Go back and play babysitter, or I swear you're the next thing that's gonna splash." Sure, Rachel could be doing something more productive with her time such as helping those of Team DARK figure out their way across the newly formed gap. But that wasn't a priority in her mind. No, this machine was. There was something about it that got under her skin, that really pushed her buttons like she tried to do to itself. She loathed it, despised it, because she knew it was just Aurtrox way of trying to keep her in check. So what if she had a bad track record in class? The field was where she thrived. In the heart of danger, she was the most reliable because she could take the heat that these students couldn't. So why the hell was this machine here to order her around? Scowling, her cyan hues narrowed at the machine as words like venom slipped from her lets. "Did you hear me you piece of s**t? Let. Go." Her own grip around the throat of the machine would tighten, the protrusions from her wrist scratching against its metal.

Drip. Drip. Drip. His sweat trickled onto the metal sheets as he pressed forward. Audible breathing to his mask it almost seemed as if he were having a difficult time. Sweat started to pelt the metal footing and sizzle to nothing. As he continued forward his following step caused the metal to cry and whine before he felt someone grab his color and yank him back. His heart began to pound a bit as he watched the sheet plummet into the large body of lava. He turned to see the hands of the man who saved him. "Thanks, Cecil!" he beamed. "Told ya you would be fine!" he said matter of factly. Adam turned his attention back to the teams' initial goal. Seeing that he destroyed the way to the other side the brown man just sighed. "Haaaah! Sorry, guys. Now we have to find another way over." he apologized. It just wast Adam's day today. He looked below and thought about how easily it could've been him falling with that metal sheet. The thought didn't scare him, but melting to death isn't how he wants to go. He turned back to Cecil and Azura. "Should we, maybe, go back for now? At least until we make a plan?" he asked. Adam started to sweat more and more. The back of his jacket becoming a darker gray the longer they were there. He took it off and wrapped it around his waist revealing his sleeved black compression shirt. "Wrong day to wear black, huh?" he thought to himself. He looks to his teammate with concern. "How you doin', buddy?" he asks concerned. Hopefull his caring tone carried through the muffling of the mask. "Azura? You ok?" he asked. She brought up the idea of tying their paracords together. "Well, it's either that or Ms. Anderson throws us over. Smell a little blood, get her strength up and launch us like a rocket. So, I think you're idea is better needless to say." Adam shrugged. If only he had some type of semblance that would help them in this situation. Seems he's been nothing but a hindrance since this mission began. But he won't dwell on it! They've got a mission to complete! "Does Anderson's anchor have a chain? And if it does can it stretch the distance?" he thought aloud.

Danaë would look around. Her eye darting around. Where was Narx? He was helping her get through the rest of the mission. Her covered eye patch was turning red from the heat, and blood. She would find team dark up ahead with the teacher. Maybe they could help her? She would go forward, seeing why they had stopped. Part of the path was gone. It must have been that a*****e who bumped her. She'd be paying him a visit later on, for separating her and Narx.

For now though, they needed to find a way across. She would look around for something to place on the bridge. In a dark corner, she found a plank. She would point it out to Adam and Cecil. "There is a board right there?" She would say, she didn't want to pick it up, as she didn't know how heavy it was. "Could you please get it?" She would ask them. Her face was showing that she was slowly starting to overheat. Her heart was racing, not only from not being with Narx. The stress was getting to her.

Charlotte Aoyama

[ P O S T ]

Charlotte mumbled under her breath as she watched her team cross and then, and only then the bridge decided it had had enough and started to give. Of course she ended up apart from her team. When didn’t she end up apart from her team. A soft sigh coming from the scorpion before she moved to take a seat on a nearby rock watching over as she had avoided the initial collapse.

Her left hand moved to the mask she was wearing and lightly pawed at it annoyed before her right pulled out her scroll. Seemingly just staring at it as she tried to remember how to get up a game up. The one with a floppy animal and noise of boing boingness. She wasn't one to help with rebuilding a rickety bridge. So she sat this part out. Trying to get used to wearing the stupid mask. ”The rope bridge wouldn't work fully. One stray magma spurt and the heat may set the rope alight. Would have better luck repurposing it to jury rig supports for the current bridge. That or use someones semblance.” She offhandedly motioned towards the far side. Seemingly with no care. She knew at least one could be useful here most likely others. But she herself still felt tired from the cave in.

Narx grunted as he hopped over a little boulder, that was at the end of the last bridge, and made it all the way to the end where the large door was. He took one step more before freezing. Two bodies. Female. Lay on the ground lifeless. Something heavy and thick materalized in his stomach, or at least that is what it felt like. It was one thing to know people died, and another to see it. Especially two students. They must have been part of the vanguard that got ahead? Or an initial scouting party? Who knew. They were all pawns to be used by Vale however they liked it seemed, but this was something else. "To hell with this." He said fighting back a strong wave of emotions that felt unnatural to him. A stray tear streaking down his face only to disappear into the side of his gasmask. Hopefully nobody else would see it. He kneeled down by the bodies and dipped his head in respect. A noble death. They would be written about for their sacrifices. Especially if there is something big behind this door.

Narx stood up and carefully navigated around the bodies. Trying to gets some distance. He had been so focused on just not dying, and then the bodies, that he hadn't realized Danaë has been spun around and wasn't right behind him."Damn it... How did I not notice?" He would say with a frown on his face. Annoyed at his lack of perception. Then again, she was extremely light on her feet and so if he was too lose track of anyone, it would easily be her due to her extreme stealth skills. He strained on top of his tip-toes to see the other students. He could see her off in the distance with the others. Safe and sound by the looks of it. He shouldn't worry. She would survive. He had faith in his team's captain; his girlfriend. Such a weird thought, he was dating the team captain. An interesting power dynamic, but things always worked well. He shrugged the thought off as he caught another glimpse the two former students. He needed a distraction.

"What the hell is this thing?" He said walking up to the ancient sentry bot in all its rusty glory. He took his hand and ran it along its rusty chest. It was slightly hot from the atmosphere, but didn't seem to have a spark of life in it anymore. Probably hadn't for some time. He jerked his head back to see what the others were looking at, the large door had a little screen of sorts and the guy named Vance was reading something. "A riddle? I guess that would keep grimm out pretty easily, but its not very secure..." Narx would say aloud as he walked over to take a look.

"I don't have a clue..." Narx would say to himself with an eyebrow raised. He hated riddles. Way too difficult. At least while his head felt this way. He lifted a hand to his forehead and rubbed it before reaching into his jacket and taking a pill out, but then he realized he had a gas mask on and couldn't take it. "So annoying... this is probably contaminated now." He would say before tossing it into the abyss of orange below. "So Gargoyles is what you guys are thinking?" He would say looking between Vance and Lena. If the to of them came to it separately it seemed like a good enough reason to him. "Let's put it in!"

Narx would push Vance to the side a bit forcefully as he started to swiftly type in the supposed answer. "G - A - R - G - O - Y - L - E - S" The system beeped as he pressed enter. The system flashed briefly before fading black, and then nothing. No sounds. No movements. The door just sat there. Narx looked to either side in confusion.

"What? Open up you big piece of junk!" Narx said punching the metal door which responded with a hollow metallic thud. "No. Nonono..." He said realizing that he probably just screwed the whole mission up. How could this be? The answer was obvious? Was it not? He didn't understand it, but everyone else seemed to. He took a deep breath. Anxiety setting in. "I-I'm sorry..." He stared at the large metal vault door feeling weightless with disbelief.

Into ƚhҽ Đαɾƙnҽss
Arc 1

User Image

▨✥▨

『Into ƚhҽ Đαɾƙnҽss – Phase Two: A』

▨✥▨

[Scene: The interior of a volcano, cylindrical cavern, along one edge is a series of uneven cliffs by which metal scaffolding has been erected to form a series of small bridges. It looks very makeshift, some edges with railing, and others without. At the end a large and advanced looking metal door with a vault-like appearance stands connected to the wall.

The vault-like door is extremely thick and durable. It has definitely been here longer than the bridges that lead up to it. Two dead bodies, female students, lie just before it. An old sentry bot of sorts stands on a charging station beside the vault-like door. The cliff edge before the door is a decent sized rocky platform that extends 40 feet out and 60 feet wide roughly. Giving plenty of space.

Dark fumes waft up from the bubbling lava below. The air is caustic and anyone not wearing a gas mask will suffer from dizziness, and pass out within a matter of a few posts and die within 12.]

The sound in the volcanic cavern seemed distant. All except for the occasional burps of the molten bubbles below. Narx, breathing heavily into his mask stood before the lifeless vault-like door. Despair likely sinking in. But then a strange sound clicked into place with a hollow thud. Followed by another louder thump thump click! And then a loud screeching sound erupted from beyond the door. That of metal against rusted metal. This lasted what felt to be an unbearable minute before the seal to the door finally hissed open. The light up above the door flashed green. Signalling that they were clear to enter.

The dusty digital screen had small text saying one word: "Correct."

The door slide to one side slowly revealing an antechamber of sorts coated in thick, clear plastic. A decontamination room of sorts. The plastic seemed ripped in several locations, but there weren't any clear claw marks or anything to make it obvious what had caused it.

Beyond what used to be a working decontamination room was another airtight door that didn't seem to have any lock on it except a metal wheel with spokes. To the left was a rectangular window that revealed the laboratory control room beyond. Several large stations could be seen. A few screens and something that stuck out. A large panel at the back that was open revealed 5 elongated canisters. Each one glowed a different color: Red, Yellow, Black, Cyan, and Light Blue. Each canister had the text: "Intravenous Prototype M.19 -- X43" printed on it. Tubes attached to the panel, obviously empty, ran along the wall and ceiling back into another hallway leading deeper into the lab, but one could not see anymore from outside.

xVx

The students along the cliff's edge were still in the process of constructing a new bridge to safely make it across. The broiling lava below bubbled and hissed with putrid appetite for all that it came into contact with. A few rocks would fall down every time someone stepped near the edge. It took a long time for those rocks to hit the lava, but when they did their sounds couldn't even be heard. The caustic fumes floated up in waves of heat.

The students could see that the vault-like door had been opened by those who had gone ahead. It was only a matter of time before the bridge was finished, but it still wasn't safe to cross. Azura would notice something to her side that others would not see though; a small crack in the rockwall. It was silent, but creeping up very slowly. A few milliliters per second. And if she looked further she would see that there were hundreds, if not thousands of these tiny cracks along the edge.

Darius looked to be in deep sorrow as Lunia would place her hand on his shoulder, almost seeming numb to the touch of the sympathetic soul. He had seemed almost unmoving there, but quietly words were formed in response to the kind act and offer. "Thank you...Sincerely. But...leave them for now, please. I...I don't want to disturb their final rest." He would say, showing an almost mystical respect for the dead and no desire to disturb the bodies. It could be guessed that to him moving them would be more detrimental than beneficial. His words were sincere though, as he was grateful she offered and came to help. She was the only one to offer him sympathy, and he would remember that in the time to come. Dealing with death varied for everyone. To the others, they seemed entirely out of his notice. Or at least he didn't respond to their guesses to the puzzle, or struggles to convince someone to put on a mask, or even Narx as he put in the password that seemed to fail. That may have hurt even more to Darius than any of them could guess, to first find he failed his team and that the others may be stuck unable to complete their missions. Just failure after failure.

And then...hope. The door would begin to open, agonizingly slow. Even Darius could not ignore this as he slowly rose to his feet in front of the door, the closest along with Lunia due to the bodies. 'Maybe this won't end in failure after all.' He thought to himself, expression hidden beneath the mark. One thing he could note though was that this door was very old with how it sounded and how long it took. There seemed to be a renewed purpose to Darius as he stood in front of the door. Beneath his mask, there was now a smile on his face. Team CAPE was no more, that was settled and nothing he could do about it. But whatever was behind this door, and these students out here, were still here. And that was what mattered at this moment. The light above the door turned green, and Darius stepped forward resolutely while trying to be first. He would take out his flare gun, and fire a round straight into the air...while at the same time he would throw one small object he had in his hand to the ground directly behind him. As the flare flew up into the air, a fiery green glow to it, the signal would be given. And then the fun truly began.

When the object hit the ground it would cause it to activate and release a shroud of smoke in twenty foot diameter with the door at the center. Further, the Atlesian sentry bot would activate during this time. It would waste no time, having been programmed the plan. With uncharacteristic speed for a machine that seemed so old, it would be through the smoke and inside the vault in seconds. Those by the door would be shrouded in smoke...but after a few seconds, they would be able to see nothing. Smoke obscured vision, but for whatever reason, those by the door would be caught in a darkness that left them blinded, unable to see anything. And those outside could not see in that area either. And then the impact of another small object would occur. Hidden beneath the smoke and strange darkness would be an ice dust crystal. It would expand to coat the floor in ice and the doorway as well, acting as a temporary block. Darius and the sentry bot, or whoever he was, were safely inside.

His eyes would scan around the antechamber, noting the plastic coating it and that it was torn in some places. He doubted whatever caused it to tear was still here after all these years. Especially by the way the door opened up. Further in there seemed to be another door securely closed, having a wheel with spokes. 'Probably the way to open the door.' He thought to himself but looked to the window first. He saw five canisters through the window, each with a different color, but all marked with prototype and a designation. His smile grew. 'So there really was something inside of here.' He thought to himself, seeing his mission was not pointless. His hands were fiddling more with dust, having some raw dust ready in case anyone came over too soon. He wasted no time though, as he knew his barriers were nothing permanent. Just enough of a distraction for the others to spring to action and keep things busy. What was thought to be a student would move over to the wheel with spokes, seeing it as the only real way to open the door. Keeping an eye over his shoulder in case anyone else was coming, he would begin to turn the wheel. He hoped the others would see the signal, and act in time. He really needed them to do their tasks quickly before the students could recover. He would manage to spin the wheel to the old door with some effort, faster if the sentry helped, and pull open the door. Once inside, he smiled as he saw all the screens and the canisters in question. He would nod to the droid. "Get what information and tech you can while I get the canisters. If the others do their part, we only have a short window to take advantage of before we join them for some fun." He would say with a mischievous smile beneath his mask. He was looking forward to seeing how the students reacted to everything that was about to occur. And looking forward to any that he may encounter on the way out. It should be quite the show if everyone truly pulled off their parts. He would move to the canisters, but as he did he would be spreading the raw dust from his hand all over. A bit of insurance for them if anything. When he reached it, he would set his back pack down and start picking out canisters. The first he would take out would be a light blue one, which he chose for himself. Of all the colors it was the most appealing to him. The next he took out was the red one, a color to match his associate assuming he did his task...Though he could faintly hear sounds that confirmed it. The final canister he had space for was a black one...for the man who helped provide the extra assistance they needed, even if he couldn't personally be here. He worked to secure them in the bag so they wouldn't break.
