There it was, another day of productivity at the tavern and inn since the weather had improved, and Kayne was feeling a bit more better compared to yesterday. More travelers came by to visit Eoana, thus the place became abuzz with activity. The chef was busy with the breakfast special, eggs, bread and sausage placed on the plates with the choice of hot chocolate or coffee as the hot beverage. In fact, hot chocolate was still the preferred choice, even with the fact that acquiring the raw materials for the mix would be depending on the availability. The delivery was steady though, allowing Kayne to acquire them at reasonable prices. It was a perk of practicing good business relationships with merchants, though still, the economy would be a huge factor; if they would become expensive, Kayne would have no choice but to adapt with such a transition.
He ended up serving 10 plates as of now, since there were a lot of people getting hungry. There would be another drinking special tonight at the tavern though Kayne would just opt out of having the ale and wine for today. The chef wouldn't like the feeling of being hung over again until going overboard recently.

The previous two days had passed in a blur. Emma had managed the Tavern well while Kayne had taught his class at the Academy and things had gone smoothly. By the time he’d returned to the Tavern, Emma had been ready for her break, but willing to work through the dinner service to make sure that everyone was well taken are of. By the time she’d been ready to seek her bed at the Horseman’s Inn, Kayne had opted to show her to her new room instead. Part of her wage was room and board at the Jolly Tavern and Inn, which was just as well for Emma – it didn’t seem right staying at a competitor’s Inn…
After a full night’s rest and a hearty breakfast the next morning, Kayne had urged her to go to the Horseman’s Inn to gather her belongings and let them know that she wouldn’t need the room any longer. From there, Emma had spent the morning going back and forth between the two districts to bring her belongings to her new accommodations. Once she’d been more or less settled, Emma had helped with the end of the lunch service and then again for the dinner/evening rush.
Now, after having spent her first real night in her new room, Emma sat in the kitchen enjoying a warm breakfast while Kayne managed the breakfast service up front. While Emma wasn’t expected to help with each service, breakfast/lunch/dinner/evening, the more she worked, the more tips she earned…thus, she opted to help as much as she could. The evening service was by far the most profitable, but she enjoyed meeting the customers, especially the regulars, during the other services. Not to mention, Kayne and his family were a delight to work for – she wanted to show them that she was reliable and a hard worker, thus she worked more than she was expected to.
The chef was wiping the sweat off his brow with a sleeve of his shirt, feeling the heat from the kitchen. But still, he smiled; the birds were chirping though the sound was drowned by the sizzling of the sausages and eggs on the pan, an indication that spring was on its way soon. Also, Kayne was hoping that Lerato was in a good mood today, even with the fact that he couldn't be with him at this moment because of the tavern duties. With that positive thought still fresh in his head, he went back to his task, fixing up another plate of breakfast for the patrons. But after that, his mother called, asking about what to do with the mice scurrying around the area. He sighed, knowing that there may be holes around the place and they should be patched up. Plus, there may be the need for traps just in case.
"Emma, can you continue on cooking on the breakfast, please? I'll be right back after fixing up the vermin problem," he called out before letting the employee catch up, the son tending to his mother's favor. It turned out that there were several holes on the wooden walls at the bottom, just near the floor. Kayne carefully closed them through hammering small pieces of wood after having to lure the mice out with food placed inside the specialized traps. The process took an hour since there were actually several rats scurrying around.

Emma looked up from sipping her tea at Kanye’s words. She was surprised by the notion that the Tavern had a vermin problem, but then again, where there was food, there were animals, it was just inevitable. All you could really do was try to keep them out. Emma was tempted to offer the use of her raiment, to see if it would work on the pests, but with a tavern full of patrons, now was not the time to try. Maybe later, in the dead of night when the little beasts would be at their most active…
Arising from her seat, she wiped her mouth with a napkin before heading for the stove. “Of course, Kayne. I’ll take care of everything.” She oversaw the cooking in between making sure the patrons were cared for. She served each person as the food was made so it arrived at their tables hot. Meanwhile, Kayne moved about the kitchen patching holes and trying to keep out the mice. She’d have to try using her raiment to scare them off for good after the evening service was over…
Sarai just finished the training regiment for her men and herself. It was a seven-mile run while carrying sandbags, followed by a log chopping exercise. The theme of her regiments recently is about building strength, but other parts of their bodies are being worked on at the same. The log chopping exercise shall be proof of this when they all start seeing results. Now she is all freshened up and looking not only for something to eat but hopefully she will get to see Emma. Sarai missed out on seeing her yesterday and she feels bad about it. Hopefully she will be able to make up for it today. Upon entering the tavern, she found herself someplace to sit and looked around for Emma. She did not see her. Is she not here today? When someone came by to help her, she asked that person if Emma was here. They told her that Emma is here and Sarai asked if she can come out and see her. The barmaid who came to Sarai nodded and left to the kitchen to tell Emma about redheaded guard asking for her.

The traps were so full by the time Kayne was done helping out with exterminating the rats and closing the holes. The vermin were then being disposed of properly, though there were some people willing to buy live rats; he was unsure why people would want them, but perhaps they would be used as pets or for ingredients for medicine or quirky concoctions. It would be best for him not to go with those transactions; who knows what may happen when people comply to those shady deals. When he returned back inside to clean up, there was the female guard who caught Emma's eye a while back. "Welcome back, miss. Anything you need for today?" he asked before checking to see if they were any spoiled ingredients; maybe the mice were attracted to the food earlier.
In that case, they should be disposed of as well. Kayne dumped the spoiled ingredients into a bag before throwing the thing into the trash outside the area. It was tiring, but cleanliness was important to lessen the chances of mice coming back to the tavern once again.

True pain has never been felt before, and currently, Azura was feeling the most of it. After that time he got himself lost in the large forest, Azura literally spent that whole three days getting back. Of course, he knew that if he kept on going a certain way, he’d find somewhere eventually. And lucky for him that he did. After stepping into town, Azura looked around for anywhere he would eat since he was badly starved. Finding the inn, Azura stepped through and set himself down at the closest chair. He looked more pale than he usually would, and that was because he put so much strain on his soul when he was training. At least he knew how to call his raiment on command at certain areas of his arm as well as fight hand to hand combat better. Not only that, but he’s been getting a good feel of the island too. As he would sit there, he looked around and saw the one lady and two of the workers there.

While cooking another batch of eggs and bacon, another of the barmaids came up to let her know that a certain ‘redhead’ was looking for her. Smiling to herself, she thanked her coworker and turned her attention back to the task at hand – the last thing she wanted was to burn someone’s breakfast. Once the eggs, bacon and toast were done, Emma plated everything and headed back into the dining area to serve the waiting customer. Looking around the room, she spotted Sarai and to her surprise, Kayne, who was asking if Sarai needed anything.
Heading over, she stopped next to Kayne. “I’ll take care of her, Kayne.” Emma said with a smile, knowing that her boss knew full well that the two of them were wanting to see one another. Looking to Sarai, Emma crossed her arms over her chest and pouted her lips a little bit.
“Fancy seeing you here…” Sarai had said she’d come visit the day before last, but had been a no show two days in a row… “I was beginning to think that you’d forgotten about me…” It was true. Emma got hit on a lot and people often made promises they didn’t keep. But she was glad to see Sarai again.
It was not Emma who would come to greet Sarai after she told one of the barmaids who came up to her to check if Emma was available. It was the chef known as Kayne. Maybe he wasn't told that this redheaded guard wants to see Emma. Before dark-skinned female can give a response, the elegant Emma arrived carrying a plate of breakfast and told Kayne that she will handle the conversation from here. It felt like an eternity for Sarai since the last time she saw Emma. With the drama happening at the barracks, especially with the captain, Sarai needed something that will help her keep her sanity. Not that she is about to break from the stress. She is far from a breaking point and she will always be there for her friends at the barracks when they need her. However, she does want to enjoy some personal time with someone who she finds fascinating, that someone being Emma. Unfortunately, she does seem to be so happy to see Sarai. That is understandable considering that Sarai had not come by in the past two days without sending a message about why she could not visit. She will have to do her best to explain what took place that prevented her from coming to the tavern without revealing too much since the captain's situation should not be made public unless he decides that it must be. She can only hope that Emma is forgiving. Sarai cleared her throat once, looked at Emma and said,
"I find it impossible to forget about you...but I must apologize for not coming to see you. There were some responsibilities that I had to bear on behalf of my captain that took up my free time. Of course, I should have at least had a message sent to you about this and I understand if you are upset with me. I do promise from this point on that I will send messages to you regarding if I cannot see you on particular days if I am needed at the barracks for an extended length of time...Is it too much to ask of you to eat with me now?"

Kayne rubbed his own hands together, sighing in relief. "Phew... That hits the spot," he spoke, knowing that the bin was already full of other trash aside from the waste from the tavern but at least another chore was done. When he came back to the tavern, Emma and the female guard were conversing about something, including the usual duties in the barracks. He had a hunch that something major was going on and there was progress on the discovery, but then again, he had no right to know. Most of the information were usually confidential unless it was time for the public to know the issues and to adapt with them. His eyes were focused on the male newcomer and smiled.
"Anything that you need, mister?" Kayne asked him. Maybe he also wanted to eat and drink like the others, but he had to hear out what the stranger would request first.

While letting off a sigh, the bartender had come up to Azura and asked for what he would like. In reality, Azura didn't know what to get, and he only had such few coins left. Can I get stew and water please? I just came back from a trip, and I'm pretty hungry. Azura said, as he wondered what he would say about this. Excuse me, I was just wondering how many people usually go off and stay in the forest here. If possible, have you heard any rumors lately? The guards around here are pretty up tight. Did something happen? Azura asked, as he glanced to the two ladies, wondering if they were listening in on Azura. He knew that some of the guards were staring him down when he came from Trendel.

Emma was a little happy to hear that Sarai hadn’t forgotten about her at least. And her apology seemed sincere enough. Sarai was a city guard and her job could be very demanding, so Emma understood that she’d gotten caught up in her duties. Sighing a little, she nodded, accepting Sarai’s apology and her explanation.
“I forgive you, Sarai…I cant blame you for getting caught up in your work…I can sit for a few minutes…I already ate and I’m helping out in the kitchen today. But I’ll keep you company for a bit.” Emma said as she took the seat next to Sarai, placing the plate down in front of her.
“By the way…I’m not staying at the Horseman’s Inn anymore, in case you were thinking of sending messages there.” Emma said with a little smile. “Now that I’m working here, my wage includes room and board. I sleep in a lovely little room right upstairs.” Truth be told she loved how convenient it was to live right upstairs. She didn’t have to walk home alone at night or risk getting accosted after work. She could just walk right up stairs and go to bed. It was lovely.
"Now...what brings you into the Inn? Breakfast? Or did you come to see me specifically?" Emma said with a little smile, curious to see what the female would say. Would she admit to wanting to come see her? Or would she play it cool?
Sarai is feeling grateful that Emma possesses a forgiving nature. The apology that the guard delivered is not the best and perhaps not the most forgiving, although she is probably being a little harsh on herself. What is happening in Reynard's personal life is not what anyone expected to be, specifically the death of his love Otsanda. It has been taking its toll on him and everyone is doing their best to make sure everything proceeds as normal for the barracks. All the guards still have to carry their duties even if the captain is not himself at the moment. That meant that the lieutenants have to step up, but Yukira has also not been herself. She may be the one that tends to do most of the paperwork, but what she saw while helping out the captain has put her out of commission temporarily. The leadership has relied heavily on her in certain situations, which is the main reason she has not been able to see Emma. With the barmaid accompanying Sarai, she was informed that Emma is no longer staying at the Horseman's Inn anymore. She has been provided with room and board at the tavern. It is a bit of relief for Sarai since she won't have to worry so much about making sure that she returns home safely. At the same time, it meant that she no longer has a good excuse to return the barracks later than usual. Of course, that could change quickly depending on what either Sarai or Emma does. The guard maintained her grin before she replied to Emma,
"Who would not want to come here to see the fairest of them all? I'll admit that the food here is more enticing than what is served at the barracks, but you are certainly stand out compared to what the rest of this tavern offers. However...do forgive if I am being so bold, but I must ask anyways. What shall it take for someone like me to acquire more of your precious time? With you staying here at the tavern, I no longer can escort you back home when you finished all your tasks. In addition... let's just say that you intrigue me greatly."

Kayne could still hear the bits and pieces of the conversation between the female guard and Emma, but he nodded in response to the young man's request for water and stew. "Coming right up. Will be served to you after around five minutes." After that, he washed his hands before checking on the pot containing the stew cooked by his mom. It has bits of vegetables but pork was the protein, with various spices included for added flavor. He gave the dish a little taste test, silently pondering that a little more salt should be added, before adding a pinch of that seasoning and stirring it a little more. Once the stew was finally done, he served a bowl of that dish together with a few pieces of bread as well as a cup of water for the young man.
"Here you go," he said before leaving the boy alone to his own devices. The newcomer was surely interested in the talk between Emma and the female guard, but as much as Kayne wanted to join in, his job was much more important than that. A few customers left the tavern with the payment and extra tips as gratitude for the hospitality. But soon enough, there would be a few more coming in because of the need to satiate the hunger.

Emma didn’t fully expect Sarai to answer her question honestly. So, when Sarai stated that the food at the Inn was better than the Barracks, naturally, Emma felt like it was a bit of an excuse. Sarai could get free food at the Barracks. Yeah, the food wasn’t the wasn’t the best, but it would save her money in the long run. Therefore, Sarai was coming here for another purpose. Lo and behold, she asked, boldly at that, what she could do to earn more of Emma’s time.
Blinking in surprise, she found herself blushing at the notion. Sarai was right – the guard had been walking her home frequently after her late-night shifts, ensuring that she arrived at the Horseman’s Inn safely. Now that Emma lived just upstairs, Sarai would have no excuse to hang around late and offer to walk her home whilst heading back to the Barracks. Thus, the question.
Feeling a bit bold, Emma tucked a few stray strands of her hair behind her ear. Angling her head slightly to one side, she lightly nibbled on her lips as she looked Sarai in the eye. “Well…for starters….you could ask me to be yours~.” She knew that the statement was very direct, but that was the point. The two of them had been dancing around the subject since they'd met. Each time they spent time together Emma wondered when Sarai would ask her to be her lover, and each time that the guard failed to ask, Emma grew just a little bit more impatient. Therefore, she’d just have to be the bold one in the relationship and ask the burning question. Will you be mine?
Nibbling her bottom lip, Emma waited in avid anticipation for Sarai’s reaction. For all she knew, she’d read the guard wrong, picked up on all the wrong signals…but then again, luck favored the bold – right?
