There was a weird dream about attending a high school whose courseload was made entirely of artfully ineffective music classes and whose students were not always human. And then, there was pain. "Gaah!" Lore suddenly snapped awake after someone had trod on the androgyne's arm. She scrambled up into a sitting position, slapping a hand onto the dirt... the sorta moist dirt, from which a thin trail of drool stretched all the way to the corner of Lore's mouth. It snapped, too, as she turned her head in every direction, assessing her surroundings.

The person who had stepped on her had already left without noticing. They weren't entirely to blame, of course. This was some hella tall grass, for one, so the trainer had been well hidden. She groggily wiped her face with her sleeve and clambered up to her feet, still a little lost as to how she'd ended up asleep outdoors... until she saw the crowds of people. And remembered.

An immortality-granting pokemon. Early whispered rumors. Camping out all night with binoculars, trying to find it, setting bait in the area. Observation gone on for too long. Accidental slumber. But she hadn't been alone.

"Breloom." A familiar shape waded its way out of the grass towards her. Usually, Lore would probably relay the experience of her rude awakening, but the situation was dire. That so many people wound up here in the middle of the plains must mean that she now had a lot of competition.
"Any sign of...?" She began to ask, but the Breloom shook her mushroom-capped head wearily. There were dark circles under her eyes. Lore's own grew a little wet at this, the human's mind still affected by a too-short sleep in a strange location. She fell to her knees and slung her arms around the dinosaur.
"Ahhh, Potatobi... you kept watch, for me? You're the best, man... What would I do without you?"
Potatobi's words were harsh, but there was a warm blush to her cheeks. And another feeling that had to do with being the most reliable of Lore's household, so to speak, and wanting everyone to be absolutely clear on that.
"I don't know what you said, but I'm sure it was really nice! Because youuuu're really nice. And that's why the world deserves more of you. Forever." There was a fire of determination in her gray eyes now, and Lore sprang back to her feet, ready to rumble. They were only rumors, of course, and probably false- but she wasn't going to take any chances. Also, grass smells really nice. Always take an opportunity to romp around in tall grass. Speaking of which, she was no longer hidden, and her hair was a giant unkempt gray monster. So as not to intimidate any approaching wild pokemon, she was quick to cover that up with her hoodie.

Suddenly, a local appeared. The local in question was a Bellsprout. Maybe it could lead her to the immortality granting poke- OH ARCEUS NEVERMIND. A scizor was trying to pummel the poor thing with punches. After landing a hit, they let the Bellsprout run away injured. "WHAT. WHY?!" The traveler yelled, appalled. Were they just... beating up random things? She made a mental note to herself that if she caught sight of the injured bellsprout, she'd catch it and bring it to a pokemon center. ...And then release it back into the wild, of course.

"Thanks," Rhei snapped to Ai, suddenly more incredibly proud of her new pokemon than she had been before. Grinning at Magnolia and Asphodel as the pokemon mirrored her trainer's gestures, Rhei nodded. "You guys can talk to it, too, if you'd like." Her words were directed more at the pokemon than at the trainers; they seemed a lot more curious. Kumiko even sniffed the pokeball.

"Alright, Bellsprout, come out!" Aiming the pokeball at the ground, Rhei watched as a beam of red light appeared, followed by the Bellsprout. She sat down on the ground before it. It looked around, eyes landing on each of the bodies around it, and then looked back to Rhei. "Bell," it said.

"I'm Rhei," she said, offering a hand for it to examine as she had to Kumiko and Asphodel. Why she did it, she wasn't sure, but it seemed like a good choice - let the pokemon make the first move, rather than diving straight into touching it if it was uncomfortable with that.

The Bellsprout lashed a vine out, and it wrapped around her fingers.

Rhei let out a cry of alarm. It's a Bellsprout, idiot, she reminded herself. "Vine Whip," she muttered, shaking her head. "Release me, please." Keeping her voice patient, Rhei studied it, looking for something she could use for a name. Nothing struck her except for the beautiful watercolor-like markings on her leaves, but Rhei didn't know any good names for that sort of thing. "What do you think of being called Verdance?"

The Bellsprout put its leaves on its "hips," where the roots that made up its legs parted. "Bellsprout."

"That's a no, then." Sighing, Rhei tilted her head. "What about Rima?"

The Bellsprout mirrored Rhei, tilting its head, and eventually nodded.

"Rima it is, then," said Rhei, grinning. "Why don't you meet everyone?"

As Rhei watched, Rima turned around slowly, and looked from one person to the next. "Bell," it said.

Niko ran over toward the small crowd and saw a short battle between a Scizor and a wild Bellsprout. He watched the moves that were used and tried to analyze the battle tactics from both the wild pokemon and the trainer. In the end, the planty thing did not get caught and ran away. Even if it was for just a moment, witnessing that battle gave him more hope in becoming a better trainer.

He followed the crowd like a little sheep as they walked on further into the grasslands, his Togekiss following closely behind him.

User ImageMagnolia chuckled at the interaction between Rhei and her newly caught Bellsprout, wondering what name it would settle upon. It's cheeky reaction to the first option rose the smile on the girl's face, but when it agreed to the second option—Rima—the fourteen year old rose her eyebrows instead. I didn't think it'd agree so fast, she thought to herself.

Bending down to its level, she gave a small wave to the Grass-type. "It's nice to meet you, Rima," she said, the lack of a curtsy following the greeting leaving feeling a tad awkward. "My name's Magnolia and this—" She glanced up to the rim of her sun hat. "This is Asphodel."

As if on cue, the Psychic-type plopped down from Magnolia's head, then shoulder, and finally the ground. She stared up to the Bellsprout in awe before tilting her head. "" she said in Pokespeak, before muffling a giggle into her palms.

The girl frowned at the Ralts. "I'm not sure what you said, but it better hadn't been rude," Magnolia huffed to Asphodel.

Heidi stood there board as she watched the chandelure trying to scare her. She had gotten used to how ghost Pokemon scared others because of Mr Grim and Lady loved to pull off pranks against each other and she happened to be in the crossfire many times. "zag" she said with a sigh and started to play with the grass.

Sunny didn't react to the name because of her traveling much of the time that she never been up to date with who was famous. She looked at Desdemona trying to scare Heidi. "I would suggest that your Pokemon stop trying to scare Heidi it will not work since she lives with ghost at home. Though I have to say the pattern on Desdemona is very impressive." Sunny then looked up at Juno.
"My name is Sunny Jones and my companion is Heidi nice to meet you. "

Charlotte wandered around the group in somewhat of a daze, not even noticing the Bellsprouts until they had already been captured.
"Huh... wha? Oh! A Bell-oh... there it goes in a pokeball... Guess I wasn't focused enough..." she said with a sigh. Mara floated over to her head and gave her a pat on the cheek with a spindly claw. "Haha, thanks Mara..."
Out of the corner of her eye, she then noticed another Bellsprout running away. "What?! Aww man, I could've gotten THAT one, too... Well, who needs a stinky plant when I've got a cool cloud like you?" Charlotte grabbed hold of Mara and gave her a big hug, despite the pokemon's attempts to squirm away.

Emalthya and Pheonix watched the tussles with the small gang of bellsprout. When the first one vomited all over the scizor, Emalthya turned away with a disgusted expression.

"Gross," she said.

Pheonix did not look very pleased either, and he was glad none of the little grass pokemon had come around him. He couldn't fight a grass pokemon! At least, not a little one. That would not be fair.

"Want to go for a walk or have a sit?" Emalthya asked Pheonix.

Pheonix sat down. He didn't want to miss anything interesting. Emalthya pushed herself up so she sat on his huge, bent knee like a bench and leaned against him. She sighed.

"This wasn't what I was expecting..."

Ai stared at Rima for a moment before glancing between Rhei and Magnolia. Was she really expected to introduce herself to a plant? Was it even capable of thought? The bellsprout was making noises all right, but she remained unconvinced that it was any form of intelligent speech. It seemed dangerous still, judging by the way it'd used vine whip on its trainer, but she didn't want to raise a fuss while she was surrounded by pokemon-worshiping trainers.

"Er... I'm Ai, and this is Kumiko," Ai said, feeling like she was speaking to a brick wall rather than a pokemon. Of course, Kumiko was happy to make the bellsprout's acquaintance. He floated down to the Rima's eye level and said, "Mew mewmew mew!"

Wonderful, Ai thought sarcastically to herself. Now they're all having a conversation in nonsense language.

To Rhei's surprise, Rima wiggled a little in response to the introductions all around, seemingly dancing as she cheerfully said Bell, Bellsprout! However, just a moment later, when Asphodel spoke, Rhei watched as Rima closed the opening in her head that resembled a mouth, seemingly pursing her lips and blowing out her cheeks. To add to the strangeness of it, Rima crossed her leaves in front of her.

"I... don't think she took that very well, Asphodel," said Rhei, crossing her own arms and looking at the Ralts.

"Bell," said Rima, turning her head to the side and lifting her head in the air.

She must have seen humans before, thought Rhei, astounded by the Bellsprout's actions. Though the wiggling had been unmistakably Bellsprout-like, the crossing her leaves and putting them on her hips seemed to be expressions that were almost eerily human-like. "Maybe an apology...?" she began, but soon Rima's attention was occupied by something else, her angry pose abandoned.

Kumiko floated in front of her face, and Rhei heard wonder in Rima's next "Bell." Rhei couldn't help but wonder if Rima knew just what Mew was - if she had heard stories from other pokemon about this one, one of few that were so rare they were actually called "legendary."

Certain that the same amount of wonder would be in her own voice, Rhei looked up at Ai from her position on the ground and was about to ask her where she had gotten the pokemon, but then noticed something. The other trainers were heading further into the grasslands. "Should we follow them...?" Getting to her feet and dusting herself off, Rhei waited for the other girls' cue. As soon as she got to her feet, however, she felt thin, flexible appendages attaching themselves to her, and Rhei looked down to see Rima clambering her way up her leg. The grass type finally stopped at her shoulder, and Rhei got a good look at the Rima's green eyes for the first time. They were somewhere between shades of moss and dark emeralds, and a black pearl that Rhei had seen once that hadn't really been black. Blinking at the suddenly very close face of her Bellsprout, Rhei smiled. I can't believe she likes me this much. "I guess we're ready to go when you are - if you are going, anyway."

User ImageAsphodel continued to giggle; wan fingers curled about a tiny mouth that tingled with chortles like little bells. When she stripped her touch from her mouth, she cast hooded green eyes about the group and smiled. "Ral, ralts!" she chirped, a sort of goading to encourage others to laugh with her, but when her response wasn't taken in the best way with the Bellsprout huffily turning away and Magnolia scolding her, that's when the Psychic-type realized the impact of her words and frowned.

"Ralts..." Asphodel said to the Grass-type momentarily, lowering her head and letting her arms dangle in a muttered, ""

Just as Magnolia dipped her chin and smiled at the Pokemon to bid her a job well done in her first attempt at making friends, Rhei brought to her attention the fact that the group was now moving deeper into the grasslands. While it would've been fine and dandy standing around watching their Pokemon get to know each other better, the fourteen year old also had her own mental agenda to complete, and wasn't going to deter for anything. "Yes, let's go," she said with a hint of enthusiasm in her tone.

Asphodel didn't need to be told twice where she was belonged. Scuttling up the length of her second human's forearm, the Ralts settled herself on the crest of Magnolia's sun hat and clutched onto it comfortably. With a beckon, she hustled off to join the others, fingers wrapped about the strap of her lavender messenger bag to steady it as she ran.

Jaime walked forward a bit faster than Shaun and his Tropius, impatient to see what was going on. As she cut through the gaps in the crowd she glimpsed a few small battles with Bellsprout. Even though they were small, with trainers just trying to capture the Bellsprout, it made Jaime smile. Her and Doom hadn't battled in over a year and she'd started to completely forget the thrill of just being around that. It was obvious those around her weren't nearly as enchanted by the scene, but Jaime was enjoying the reminder of why she'd wanted to become a trainer in the first place.

Turning back, she said to Shaun, "It's just a few Bellsprout causing trouble, turns out we were right." Realizing why they were at the Grasslands, she let out a sigh. "Looks like nothing exciting's going to happen after all." She glanced around, hoping for some indication that she hadn't traveled all this way for nothing.

Ruler of Everything

There seemed to be several scuffles with more Bellsprout, and it sounded like at least some of them were captured. After that brief bit of excitement, things quieted down. At least for the moment.

At Jamie's comment, he shrugged. "Just because the first pokemon we see isn't the one we're looking for, that doesn't mean it's not here. Let's try moving around some more, see what else is here." He looked out across the landscape and added, "The grass is very high, there could be lots of pokemon hiding just out of sight." He nudged Salvo to keep going, heading deeper into the grasslands.

Lily Rose had spotted what looked like a giant, walking tree. Barking happily, she raced towards it, running around the four 'trunks.'

"Lily Rose! I am never taking you out in public again!" Joey cried in dismay as his Growlithe darted under a Tropius. User Image

Instead of seeing another wild pokemon, Shaun a trainer's pokemon next. Loud barking heralded the arrival of a Growlithe, who proceeded to run around Salvo's legs. Salvo promptly looked down and was careful where he put his feet. Shaun looked down to watch as well was kind of amused that the smaller pokemon could run right under his bigger Tropius. And while he was watching, he noticed the unusual markings on the dog-like pokemon.

Shortly after a young boy ran up, calling out to the pup. Shaun smiled down at the boy. "Hi there! I guess this Growlithe is yours, huh? It's certainly a lively one." He pulled out his camera and continued, "I notice it's got some very special markings. Would you mind if I got a few pictures? I'm a Watcher, and I'm looking to photograph lots of different pokemon. I really like to see the ones that look differently from usual."

Jaime nodded at Shaun's suggestion and started forward when a lively Growlithe ran towards them, a young boy sprinting after. Instinctively she reached down to grab Doom's collar ('I swear he is the only Pokemon awful enough to need to be restrained like any other domestic animal') but he'd already darted forward, beginning to snarl at the Growlithe. Acting quick, Jaime stepped forward, hands on hips and growled, "Doooooom." Nothing else, just his name. Ears flicking around, Doom realized he was in trouble and turned on his heel, skulking back to Jaime, sloppily sitting down on one of her feet. She rolled her eyes and shook her head, lodging her foot out from under the Houndoom. Figuring it was best to leave Shaun to his picture-taking, she began to wander off in search of, well, anything that would make her trip here worthwhile.
