Somehow, Scarlet had gotten lost between the school's entrance and the dorms. Camuel, the vampire she had been following, was nowhere to be found.. And a couple hours of clueless wandering had led her up to the school's roof. Not the safest place for a blind girl, but it could have been worse. She stepped outside onto the roof and turned her head like she was looking around. The large black bird on her shoulder stretched its wings and cawed before taking flight. It was happy to be outside again. A feeling it shared with her as it flew in wide circles over the roof. It wanted to fly further, but was wary of leaving her alone. She could not 'see' without it, after all. But she silently told it that she would be fine, so it flew off. She was fine with that, but as she took a few uncertain steps in one direction, she seemed a bit tense. She did not notice if anyone else was on the roof with her, as she was more interested in finding a place to sit and wait for her bird to come back.

Scarlet continued slowly making her way across the roof, taking it one step at a time. She tested the ground before she actually took each step, holding out her hands in front of her to feel for anything that might be in front of her. She would have gone right past a bench if she hadn't hit it with her right foot. It edged along the ground, making a scraping noise that helped draw her attention to it. She carefully lowered her hands and felt around to realize she had found the top of a wooden table.. And then, lower down, a bench. She slowly sat down on the bench, then put her hands onto her lap.

The sound of a voice made Scarlet jump a little in her seat, barely avoiding falling off by throwing her hand out and, by pure chance, grabbing the edge of the table. Once she steadied herself, she tilted her head to listen to this person speaking.. They sounded male, so she assumed that they were. The fact that he asked a question rather frustrated her, since she could not really answer.. But since he could tell she was blind, she assumed that he was not, so she just nodded to answer his question. She would have done more if she could, like explaining why she was up there, but nodding was all she could do. Without her raven beside her, she felt even more nervous than usual, but this person sounded nice enough.. She didn't really feel like she was in any danger here, except maybe of falling off the roof, which she did not think would happen.. Probably.

Scarlet tilted her head slightly at the sound of someone sitting across from her, then something wooden being put on the table. She didn't know what it was and wasn't going to try reaching her hands to feel it out of a worry that that might upset this person. She left her hands on her lap and just turned like she was looking around, wondering anxiously when the raven would be back.. She didn't want to be alone with a stranger. She nodded slightly in assent to his assumption that she was new. His name was Zaffer? Not a common name.. She stiffened when he said something that implied he was blind too, which made her feel rather like an idiot. She had just assumed he could see her, but now she doubted that he even knew what she had answered him with. Her shoulders slumped a bit when he asked another question and she was left struggling to find some way to answer it.. Though there wasn't any that she could think of.

Scarlet frowned a little when she heard the sounds of Zaffer getting something out. A rustling sound.. Paper? She was confused when he confirmed this. He had just said he was blind, so why was he telling her to write what she had to say down? He wouldn't be able to see it.. Right? As she mulled this over, she heard the wing beats and call as well. Without even thinking about it, she lifted her right arm and held it straight out to her side. A few moments later, her bird had landed there, gripping her wrist through her sleeve as it turned its beady eyes on the male sitting across from her. It eyed him for a minute before it noticed the bread crumbs and hopped off her wrist onto the table to snap those up. She lowered her arm again once it was on the table. She was a bit impatient for it to get back to doing its job, but wasn't going to try to rush her feathered friend. Patience was always a good thing to practice, no matter how much she didn't want to.

Scarlet tilted her head, her mouth twisting in a somewhat dubious frown. A pen that used energy to write? She wasn't even sure if that was really a thing. It sounded a little fishy to her. She also didn't understand how he was blind, but could still see with his own eyes. It was a bit weird. After a moment though, she reached out and felt around for the pen. The large black bird noticed her feeling around for it and picked up the pen in its beak, then dropped it onto her hand. She was quick to catch it, silently thanking the bird for helping as it checked to make sure it had gotten all of the bread crumbs. Since he said the pen was safe to use, she might as well.. So she found the paper too and slowly wrote, "I don't need help." She chose to answer his earlier question, rather than write anything else. When the raven was satisfied it had gotten all of the crumbs, it hopped back up to her shoulder. Sensing it was ready to get back to work, she had it do just that so she could get a look at this person who was talking to her.. And the roof where they were.

Scarlet nodded slightly to Zaffer's words, hoping that would be a good way to answer his question. Writing was a little difficult, even with the help of her raven. It wasn't exactly something she had practiced much since becoming blind.. She frowned as she reached up to gently stroke the raven's feathers. It was surprising for him to notice that she was using the bird to see, but she nodded again. The bird cocked its head to one side when it saw the male taking off the blindfold around his eyes while her expression became vaguely puzzled, not sure why he was doing that.
