~Water, Soil, Sun, & Love~
~"Hope Eternal"~
~Master Growth Solo~

Avani's Master Prompt
Everyone in their life experiences a point where someone or something is in their way, underestimating them, judging them unfairly, holding them back. Whatever form it takes, it leaves a lasting impression, and even after massive achievements, these kinds of things can still linger at the back of a person's mind. Who has wronged your character in the past? Who does your character most feel they still have something to prove to, if only to rub their successes in this person's face?

RP your character looking back on the successes and pains of their life to date, considering their relationships in full and what they need to do to move on from their past regrets or - if appropriate - exact a little much-deserved revenge. Do you go seeking an encounter out? Or perhaps your character simply runs into this person who has never valued or judged them adequately - how do you cope, and what helps your character to move on from the injustices of their younger years to the poise and power befitting of a true master of their art?

It was one of those rare days that Avani had off where Oblivion had tagged along with Honoka, and she had the house to herself. While she loved having Oblivion and Honoka around, she recently found that she loved having time to herself as well.

She sat at her desk in her library that faced out the window to the side yard. The glasshouse she had built the past fall was still something she had to get used too. She would have to plant some flowering vines along the base this year so it could start climbing up the rock and cement back. The flowers she planted at the edge of the yard when she built the house were showing the growth of spring. A few yellow, red, blue and white flowers popping their heads out of the ground after a long winter of rest. Soon those flowers would be in a riot of blooms, and all summer there would be butterflies and bees flying around.

She smiled at her yard and picked up the recent letter from her cousin Rainei. His mate had just given birth to twins, a boy and a girl, and Avani was ecstatic with joy for him. He had worked hard since she last saw him, and was now one of the senior foremen on the ranch staff. His dream of taking over for his father was becoming more real each year. She knew that feeling of accomplishment.

After she finished reading the letter, Avani smiled and sat back in her chair, looking out at the garden in her yard. She heard the birds singing, and saw them swooping down onto the yard, or from tree to tree. It seemed as if everything was growing up this spring.

She pulled out some paper, her ink, and a pen.

Dear Rai,

Let me first reassure you about what happened here before winter. While I was hurt a little by that horrible man, no great bodily harm came to me. A good khehora friend had decided to come to my rescue. Even little Honoka, after I told her to run to Mama and Papa, came back after sending Nix to my friend. She was splendid. She bit the fool where it would hurt the most. Being a man, I’ll let you imagine what it must have been like to have a youngling khehora biting you full on in that area –more than once mind you– and spare telling you how the man reacted. Though, to be frank, I had never heard a grown man scream that loud before, nor do I ever want to hear it again. I didn’t have the heart to punish the little one for disobeying me after I got to Papa’s house. She was brave, and loyal, and will make a great khehora someday.

Of the men who did this to me, well, I do not think on them. They are not worth the effort it takes to think of a person. I’d rather use that energy for some good. However, seeing as the spring thaw has come, you and your parents must be eager for word on what happened to them.

Of the two men who had helped the b*****d, they were sentenced to hard labor on Eowyn for a number of years. Since they did not help the man who instigated the whole attack, they were tried and sentenced here. The ringleader was tried here as well, however before his sentence could be carried out, Aevah Avi’s personal guard came and took him away. We didn’t know what became of him after he was taken till about a month later. It seems he was tried for murder there of one of Aevah’s guards, and while sentenced to hang, the victim’s father pleaded for mercy, and he is now a permanent resident deep in the Citadel.

My whole thoughts on this dear Rai?

I don’t care. He is in a place where he will harm no other for the rest of his life, and so I move on. As I said, he is not worth my thoughts. But there is a little place in my heart that wonders if I can find forgiveness for him. I could find forgiveness for Srenlei, and what he did to my garden. He is my cousin, and for some strange, inexplicable reason, my heart loves him despite his cruelness.

Speaking of that young man, I am sad to hear that he ran off from the farm. Despite your feelings, you have lost a half of you. I never had any twin, but it seems that you loved him as I did, such that no matter what he did, you could forgive and love despite it. Uncle Akali must also be saddened. He was his son, and hearing that Sernlei had gone off to fight in the great engagement must have been a blow to him. He and Aunt Lalika must be worried sick over him, even if it was an argument between parents and son that drove him away. I pray to Seren that he fairs well, and returns when he has had his fill.

But let us speak of better things now.

I have my house and my own farm now. You knew about the house, but the farm is new. As I stated before to you, I have bought the land that had my “secret lake” on it, and the farmhouse that went with it. Renovating it was a therapy in and of itself. I vented out my frustration from the attack pulling out the damaged walls and floors, and helping repair them. You would not believe the rot that was there. It was bizarre, but I loved the sight of it.

I know, you must think me a little crazy about that statement. But a little history of that house is in order for me to explain it. The previous owners had an elderly and sick grandfather, and all spare coin went to his comfort while he was sick and dying. He died in the house he raised his children and some of his grandchildren in. Imagine how Granny felt when she died? We had not only spare coin for her health, but the keep the farm running. She saw not only her children and grandchildren grow there, but she died in peace on the farm she started with Grandpapa. I like to think the grandfather of the farm I bought in peace as well in his last days. I wished his family well when they left, promising to make the farm as good as it was in its prime.

And it’s well on its way. The new foreman and his family love it here. They even love Honoka, especially their little girl. She reminds me of myself. What a thought that is, isn’t it? You are probably going to think how much trouble a second Avani would wreak havoc on the world. Don’t worry about that, since she seems more interested in growing things to cause trouble. In that light, Mama and I plan to send over some flowers for their yard. I do hope they take so there can be bright colors to greet their new friends.

I have spoken of Honoka before in this letter. She is growing strong and fast. She even used her magic to help till the new farmland. She seemed so happy flying over the land. From the moment she hatched she has been a handful, but she has enough love in her to share with the whole world. At times, I wonder what will become of her. She is not as aggressive as her wild kin. Make no mistake, she is a wild khehora, but she has grown up surrounded by two-leggers. Hopefully she doesn’t trust two-leggers completely, or she will be hurt not only physically, but hurt in her heart. It seemed only yesterday I was given her egg.

On that subject, I had a visitor come calling just as the snow had melted. It was the man who gave my Honoka’s egg, Honoka’s khehora father, Oblivion. I say “man”, and I mean it. He has reached his final form and wonders the house in his two-legger khehorian form most of the time. He’s really big. When I met him when I was just about eleven years old, I had thought he was huge, but not compared to this form. He even reached over Papa! He looks so menacing, as dark as an Oblvionite, but his red eyes and feather tipped tail and wings give him away.

However, dear cousin, that is the best part about Oblivion. He has still retained his fluffieness of his khehora form. I love when he rests in that form though. If he is out sunning, and sees me, I tell him to stay, and just lay with him, all snuggled down in his feathers, much like when I was a little girl. Even when he is in his khehorian form, I just sit next to him and snuggle into his wings and long soft hair.

I cannot say how he makes me feel. I care for him, but my feelings do not seem bent on him being just my friend. Oh, the feelings of friendship are there, but there are feelings there for him that seem more than that.

Avani looked up from her letter and stared out the window.

What were her feelings for Oblivion? They really were as she had written, she thought of him as a good friend, as someone she was getting to know. She smiled at the thought. Oblivion was a special friend.

User Image

Let’s say he’s a special friend. He holds a place in my heart that is uniquely for him. Though he is a bit quirky, it’s those things that endure him to me.

Gods only know how long he will stay here, but he is welcome for as long as he wishes. Is it strange Rai, is it strange that his presence here makes me feel safe? I have no fear of attacks, animal or otherwise. Though he is strange in his ways, he cares. He has a heart as big as Honoka’s. He sometimes seems to think otherwise, but I have always known he has one as big as the world. Who else would take a little Orderite girl to a star show on Ayr and see her as his charge?

Before you ask, he has met Mama and Papa. Mama took a shine to him, and I have a feeling he likes her too. The fact she spoils him just as she does Honoka might just help. Papa on the other hand… Well, Papa seems to accept him for now. I believe he has no problem with him being a Khehorian, just that he seems to be hugging and kissing his daughter’s cheek.

I hope you don’t behave as badly as he did when your little girl grows up.

I do hope that things are well there at the family ranch and farm. I think of you all regularly, and pray for your health and safety.

Always yours,
Avani

Avani put her pen down, and looked over the letter. Much had happened over the years. She smiled thinking about Honoka and Oblivion. It seemed to her that her future was entwined with those two more than anyone else’s. She hoped that the future kept them close to her.

She sanded the letter so that the ink that wasn’t dry wouldn’t press the back side of the other papers. She then pressed a blank page on top to get whatever wet ink remained. She then folded the letters up in blank pages to make an envelope, then sealed it with her three seals. One was the Autumntree family crest, one was her father’s, and the last her own.

Avani then placed stamps on the heavy item and then placed it on the tray by the door so someone would take it the next time anyone in the house went to the village.

Avani looked out the front windows and watched spring unfurling. She smiled and hugged herself thinking that this was the perfect day to wish for future happiness, since it seemed spring radiated hope eternal.

~Reflections of the Past~
~Hope Eternal~
~A Growth Solo Journal Reflection~

Writing that letter to Rai helped me get perspective on the past. Weather current or farther back, I know I can beat it all. How? I have hope. The hope that those I love stay entwined into my future. Most notably, I hope Honoka and Oblivion stay close by. Especially Oblivion. I feel a tug towards him somehow... That my life will be entwined mostly with him.

I hope the Gods understand this fate business, for I certainly don't have the answers.

That is why I must continue to hope.
