SWEET TALK - Success!
The rugged looking vagabond sized up the young lady before him and his face contorted into a lecherous grin. Quentin rubbed the back of his head and let out a mildly embarrassed chuckle.
"Hey there yerself, miss. I suppose ya could say that. I've been around the block more than a few times myself. The name's Quentin Romero, darlin'."
After taking another lustful glance at the attractive woman he smiled widely.
"If you'll give me a name to call ya by, sweet thing, I'll teach you a trick or two for practically nothin'."

"Quentin, huh?" She allowed the softest of smiles to touch her lips and eyes, in the most seductive way she could master. She knew she had this one ensnared. She could see it in his eyes. "The name is Liona. Let's see what tricks you can teach a willing girl..."

Quentin and Liona spend a decent amount of time going over the details of what to look for and how to spot good finds and the most effective ways to carry heavy materials.

"Excellent."
Liona smiled at the workout she had with Quentin, rather satisfied with the new skills she picked up. She couldn't wait to show her moves to Michael, when she finally remembered he was still stuck with their vehicle and the kid. She shrugged at the thought. Better him than me with that girl. While she was starting to warm up to Sandy, she wasn't too enthusiastic about being left alone with her for hours on end quite yet.
She greeted the both of them when she returned to the vehicle. "I think I've had about enough of this countryside. Ready to roll?"

"Okay, I spy with my little eye..." Michael's mental debate of what to spy was interrupted by Liona. "Preachin' to the choir, lady. Let's rock and roll." He stopped as he was about to pull open the passenger door. "Uh, you didn't happen to see Emma, did you? I'm almost super sure she was talkin' to Johnny Bangbang too, wasn't she?" His eyes scanned across the property for their newest member. "God freakin' damn." Michael turned to Liona. "Stay here with Sandy for a sec. I'll be back in a New York minute."
The door of the house swung open as Michael walked briskly, checking every room, and both floors. He'd be damned if they lost another member. How the hell did they lose the others anyways? They literally just up and vanished. Doctor what's-his-face, that Polly girl, the father and freakin' Emma now. 4 people in what? 2 days? "Jesus freakin' Christ." After doing a quick inspection of the entire property, Michael returned to the car, his face somewhat grim. "Let's wait a bit or somethin', yeah?" He knocked his hand on the roof of the car absentmindedly. "In the meantime, tell me about all about your new, crazy, flaming, dragon kick you learned from that guy."

"Emma? No sign at all." In fact, Liona nearly forgot about her. It wasn't that the girl wasn't memorable or anything, it was that her training made her remember little else. After that work out, all she wanted was to flop down on the nearest couch. It was hard for her to accept that this was the apocalypse and that she couldn't be afforded such conveniences. She was eager to lay down in the car while Michael went off. She couldn't even be bothered to care that Sandy was climbing and exploring the front seats while she was passed out.
Her eyes fluttered open again when Michael had returned. "We only have so long to wait, soldier," Liona reminded him as she pushed herself up from the seats. She sighed, and started on Michael's request. "It was easier said than done. I really busted out my chops with him. He doesn't take anyone lightly, even if you are a girl…"

"Sounds like my old man."
After maybe an half an hour or so of waiting and no sign of Emma, Michael sighed. It looks like they really did lose another member. Emma was either gone or found another group to travel with. That was that he supposed. "Freakin' card wouldn'ta killed her, would it?" He mumbled darkly. In any case, she wasn't here, and if she wasn't here, she wasn't leaving with them. 2 days, 4 people, poof-- gone with the wind. Back to two. Not like he minded; Liona was nice enough.
Speaking of going, the remainder of the group needed to be doing just that. He pulled open the door to the passenger seat to find Sandy was drawing faces in her breath on the door window. With a chuckle, Michael picked up Sandy and placed him on her lap. "Time to go, kiddo." The door closed with a thud, and he pat the side of the car. "Yo, Liona, probably time to roll out. Emma's not coming."
"Emma's not coming?" Sandy asked, a tinge of sadness in her voice.
Michael simply shook his head. "Nope. She's got her own stuff to do." After an "oh, okay," and a nod, Sandy resumed drawing smiley faces. Michael wished he was half as happy as them.

"I hear ya." She reached an arm over to start up their vehicle. It was only when the engine was purring that she really felt the ping of bittersweet regret. "Think she'll be alright?" Her voice was steady, holding no indication of the storm that was rumbling in her conscience. Contrary to even her own belief, she was not quite as cold and heartless as she thought. But a glance at the rearview mirror made her tell herself that she had to remain strong. They had to roll out before the apocalypse caught them.
"Here we go." With that, they left Amish Country.

Controlled
Emma had wandered off on her own at some point to gather some firewood for the encampment. Unfortunately, those that wander off unarmed and unprepared meet a sad, albeit predictable demise.

"She's a med school girl, ain't she? She'll manage. 'They don't let idiots into med school!' as my doctor friend'd say." This was also a guy who also installed a door handle backwards, but that probably wasn't a good thing to share right now.
As the wagon rolled down the road, Michael noticed a group of cars, still running(he shook his head disapprovingly at the waste of gas) and a creepy-a**-lookin' mine. "'The hell's this all about?" He mumbled, squinting his eyes despite the lack of sunlight, to get a better look. What the hell were these people doing? Peering more closely at gaping black maw of the cavern, he shuddered. Whatever they were doing, he wanted the group to have no part in it; yessir, no part at all. Mines were bad news when the world wasn't falling apart. Claustrophobic spaces and darkness so dark you couldn't even see your damn hand in front of your face once you're really down in there. Throw in the zombie apocalypse and you have your own freakin' horror movie right there. He chuckled to himself at the idea, and that it seemed like it'd make a decent horror flick. Had that been done before? Eh, whatever.
As he turned away from the mine, Michael realized he felt a little like crap. Past two days had been stressful, he guessed, and that adventure to the mall probably took a year or two off his life. Still the afternoon, might be a little to early to take a break, but still... "Yo, you wanna pull over for a breather maybe? I ain't feelin' 100%. Maybe I'm just a wuss. Might be smarter to truck on and just rest at night though."

Liona listened intently to Michael's words, and as her gaze settled on a nonspecific spot of the road behind them, through the rearview mirror, she couldn't stop her grip from tightening on the steering wheel. "But brains don't get you everywhere…" she said softly, but for Emma's sake, she hoped all the best for the other girl.
Her eyes locked on the road and on the lookout for any hitchhiking zombies, she did not notice the mine nor Michael studying it. Thoughts of her friends at school, and even those of her parents, were clouding her attention. It was only when Michael began speaking to her directly that she took notice. Silence on her part continued for a moment as she kept on trucking forward briefly after his proposal, but she felt herself slowly loosing the heart to go on as the second ticked by. It wasn't only the strength in her arms that were deteriorating, but her spirit too. "We don't know what will come tonight. Let's take a break while we still can," she said finally.
