Koiyuki Well if they needed to change, then they would change, but people keep buyin' their stuff, and so they don't change a damn thing. The same s**t could be said of Halo, Sony or Sega back in the day, but they don't. Why? 'Cause thats what appeals to that type of gamer. To me, games are like pieces of art, they're subjective to the taste of the person playing it, and they may not like a particular way they do things or make a game. Another way games are like art is that the creators, *unless your company name happens to be EA* don't give a flying ******** what you think of their s**t, nor should they. They make the game to make them happy and to make it into the mold they had in their mind. Some just happen to get lucky and make millions off of it. So please, if you don't like a game company's way of doing crap that much, do the one thing thats more powerful than writing a full page (or two) rant on the subject: Dont buy the game, and get the people that matter to it most not to buy it, either. Remember, Nintendo is originally a very Japanese company, and they're work ethic is such. They stick to what works, they stick to tradition, and they're gonna keep sticking to it until they can do it no more. Where did you find that crap? That guy needs to read http://lostgarden.com/2005/09/nintendo-genre-innovation-strategy.html and http://lostgarden.com/2005/09/nintendos-genre-innovation-strategy.html.
Sloppy controller design? Lack of innovation? WTF? Who does he think invented, redesigned and revolutionized platform-genre games? Who does he think invented game-concepts that were never conceived? Kart-racing? Ghost-hunting? Water-blasting? Just because the games have "Mario-something" on the title doesn't mean it's the same thing over and over. Where's the "retro-s**t"? I really don't see it. Does he mean "Game & Watch"? What does he mean? He has no extraordinary points in his argument, just an uneducated rant.

A shocking amount of people agreed with the guy, for some reason. xD That annoys me because usually people that hate Nintendo don't think of it's accomplishments or that *gasp* the Gamecube MAY just be better than the X-box when it comes to the games. I know many GUY GAMERS who think that. Guy gamers who have played BOTH, by the way. And if they like the X-box better, they have a special place in their hearts for Nintendo products. Personally, I think this guy is in just the legions of Xbox fans who have never even so much as picked up a Gamecube (or N64, or SNES) controller. The controller designs may seem crappy, but that's because they normally play with about ten extra buttons they don't need and have to use complicated button-pushing to do anything. All of the designs of Nintendo have been simple and efficient. Plus, the DS has much more fun games. There are some games you can play that you can't play WITHOUT a touch screen, like the Nintendog game. I have it. I got two before they came out because both of my parents work at Nintendo and I gave one to a friend for her birthday (which was also before the Nintendog game came out so she got it, too). Seriously, just because a game isn't violent, doesn't mean it's not fun. On another note, I tried to find the old NES so I could play DuckHunt (I had the game and the gun (which my sister's friend's father invented) but I couldn't find the NES for the life of me) but I couldn't and I felt sad because I wanted to play some old school Nintendo games, which are teh secks. Especially the old Zelda games. And Excitebike.

Games...that's quite a bit. I'm not huge on the console bit because I'd like to have normal fingers without callouses sweatdrop So! PC it is! 3nodding
I appreciate the old-school Amiga games and sometimes play them again and again...it only really takes an hour to finish them games except for Princess Maker 2. In this range my favourites are your LucasArt Classics such as Indy and Monkey Island and then a few random bits and pieces, including "Jones in the Fast Lane" and of course, Leisure Suit Larry 3nodding
More recent games that I love include the Sims 2, Vampire Bloodlines (I love being a Malkavian ^,^) and that's all I've found that I like lately that's...very recent. Otherwise, I also like Neverwinter Nights if I'm really bored, Diablo II if I'm beyond bored, Warcraft III when I'm feeling a change from Sims 2 and the sort, Arcanum (it could have been better, but my love for Troika Games is high!) and mer. I used to play the Gabriel Knight series fervently (my interest in the paranormal is great) and yeah...Evil Genius rocks my socks but that's due to my desire of being a malevolent ruler someday - one can only dream wink

The new Kingdom Hearts game is out, and it looks to be another great Square game.
With that in mind, what are some of the IPG's top time suckers?

Hmm...A lot of RPG's on peoples lists...which begs the question, is gameplay, story, or grahpics more important to the overall game and experience?

I order of importance to me:
I consider Story very important, but not as important as gameplay. I also consider graphics to be very important, but not as important as story.
If the gameplay is bad, it doesn't matter how good the story is, I will not play it. It is a game, not a movie. Unnecessarily complicated? Too many menus and not much action? Sucky game navegation? Bleh. I'll take a cheesy story over lame gameplay any day. Graphics are important. If the character design and the settings are bad, the whole thing crumbles, no?

Reminds me of my eventful start up of Neverwinter Nights... the gameplay was a best texting (for me at least). The graphics were acceptable for what was available at the start of it all and the storylines are quite good, but seem to be rather forced on part to show off features (in the expansion packs onwards that is)

madamfluff Reminds me of my eventful start up of Neverwinter Nights... the gameplay was a best texting (for me at least). The graphics were acceptable for what was available at the start of it all and the storylines are quite good, but seem to be rather forced on part to show off features (in the expansion packs onwards that is) The main idea for Neverwinter Nights was the Aurora toolset, allowing the community ample ways to get online and build their own modules to play under the DM Client. That later evolved into PW (Persistant Worlds) for online playing in a set world, 24/7. The main campaigns were good fun, but they were hardly the whole focus of the game. The same is to be said with NWN2, when that gets released, of which i'm wholeheartedly going to buy. Yeah, i'm a huge fan of Neverwinter Nights. :3 --- Vyce has outlined the exact same thing that I would say, though i'd point out that menus and navigation don't matter too much to me. If anything, I get bothered more with how systems are laid out. For example, I liked Grandia 1's magic system - level up your Fire magic skill enough and you'll learn a new skill (ie, Burnflame!). However, Grandia 2's mana egg system really turned me off. I didn't like it at all, as it was restrictive. Same goes with the weapons that each character could use between the two. Justin's ability with the Mace increased HP, the Sword increased Dexterity and the Axe increased Strength (or something like that). Ryudo could only equip a sword, and they did nothing to base stats. That, to me, comes under gameplay. So yeah.

That somehow reminds me of Diablo I with the three classes they only had available - sure you could alter your characters to end up being a mage swordswoman, yet the characters were still limiting. ~my brain is currently fried due to overwork, apologies if that makes no sense~

madamfluff Games...that's quite a bit. I'm not huge on the console bit because I'd like to have normal fingers without callouses sweatdrop So! PC it is! 3nodding I don't quite get what you mean here... I'm a pretty hardcore console fan, and I don't experience that all that much. Special <3out to Vyce for having Makai Kingdom. I keep letting myself get stuck by Transmigrating groups of four troops then getting them back up to my main team's level... I should probably quit doing that. Also, I'd like to point out my latest couple video game obessions: http://au.bugsgames.net/ <- Audition: Online Dance Battle is definately an acquired taste, and the difficulty goes from "incredibly easy" (practice) to "quite difficult" (Normal mode and "Choreography", the most popular mode) to "HOLY FREAKING s**t" (Every mode ever once you leave the Entry server). I'm just starting to adjust to the Novice server, myself. The thing of this game is, it isn't like DDR or any music game you've played, unless you enjoyed Bust-A-Groove. It's 'hit the sequence of keys in three beats, hit space bar on four'. This gets incredibly difficult when you start having to do ten key presses - no mistakes - in less than three seconds, including reading the pattern. http://o2jam.e-games.com.my/ <- Anyone who's ever played Beatmania will be right at home. If you've enjoyed Drummania, Guitar Freaks, or to a lesser extent DDR, In The Groove, or Pump It Up, you will probably find this game pretty fun. It's free, but after one or two plays in a Single Room, you should quit out and grab the torrent to download ALL the songs - even though you cannot unlock them all immediately. Around half require you purchase e-points (real cash to game special funds), and the other half require Gems (the main moneythat you get for passing songs). The difficulty runs the gamut here too, but is much smoother a progression than Audition - start on difficulty 2, then start going up from there. I am only up to 9 out of a possible 50 difficulty levels (although there are several BIG jumps at the end - Gaussian Blur, the 'ultimate' song, is a level 50, and I believe the closest before it is 42), and even the best rhythm masters will be hard-pressed to master the extreme stuff. Sorry if this seems spammy, but I just <3 these games. Really. On topic. If I ever create a first person shooter, I want to make something similar to Metroid Prime 2. Lots of boss fights, huge single world, fairly large amounts of storytelling. Seriously, I actually feel that Half-Life 2 paled in comparison, and that game is the singlehanded exception to my dislike of PC shooters.
