Dream Catcher

"I'm home, Dei, Tal!!" Jizzy cried out as she opened the door, her arms laden with grocery bags. The small spider child stumbled from the couch where he and his brother were watching cartoon. "MA!" Talqualyn cried out, burbling and giggling.

Deimos just looked over tiredly. "Lo.." He mumbled, refocusing his mind on the cartoons.

Jizzy gave out a long rsigh, ruffling around the bags. "I.. got you your dream cather, Dei." She said softly. She wanted to help him, but how could she when he didn't let her in. She tried at least.

Deimos stood wearily and walked over. SO that was what it was.. He grabbed it gingerly and a goofy smile graced his lips. Could this be the solution. "Thanks, mother.." He said, leaving to go hook up the bad dream catcher.

--Dark Mind--
Participants - Deimos, APhrodite, Erebus and Anastay

Cartoon noises blared from the television, so loud, you wondered why they even let the volume go up that high. Deimos lounged, hanging upside down from the couch. It was unconfortable, yes, but the less comfort, the less sleep. The less sleep e got, the less dreams and anything with little nightmares was good for him.

Sleep was getting a quick hold of him though, as it tended to happen when you only had a few scattered hours of accidental rest over the past few days. His mood was all over the place, his eyes blood-shot, encircled by dark rings.. He was overall in pretty bad shape, still.. None of the things he had tried had worked...

Being a bit older and trustworthy, Aphrodite was allowed out on her own, but only within the Mishap HQ and inside. Well at least it was a bit of freedom. the small was-mishap, let out a sigh, being held tighlty in her arms was Al, her faithful and most loyal friend. She wore a a pair of jeans, black and white stripped socks, a simple long sleeved mauve shirt, and her most prized article of clothing, her new gyspy skirt. Another item she is never seen without. Not really bothering with shooes, she flew about, passing room by room, exploring testing the limits of her new found freedom, blinking at the muffled noise of an obviously loud TV, she pushed open the door that was ajar, blinking too see who was inside. Wincing at the noise she noticed Deimos. Hmm, him.

'Don't be mad at him Dite.' A small voice echoed from the plushie. ' He was just being a boy.'

A soft laughter could be heard. 'It's not like he didn't want you to be in his 'pirate' crew.. he was looking out for you.'

'He didn't have to compare me to a monkey.' She frowned, keeping her arms around Al. She didn't show it then, she she remembered the tantrum she threw afterwards... not a very memorable moment. As she flew nearer, she felt.. something odd comming from Deimos. A feeling, deep regret.. and fear? "...Deimos?"

Deimos gave a start, sitting upright on the couch and peering for the source of the voice.. He spotted APhrodite rather quickly though and falsed a smile, hoping it was his serious face that had given away everyone else, instead of the rings around his eyes, or the general tired vibe he gave off.

"Hi Aphrodite.." He said tiredly, still trying to keep up a facade, but he even slipped, not calling her by his usual nickname. His mind and body in a war that kept most his thought elsewhere..

She bit her lip, looking at him. Her eyelids began to feel droopy, shaking her head, she fought off the attack of sleep. "Deimos! You look like a mess!" She cried, flying over to him in a fit of worry. Clniging to Al, she buzz around his face to look him over. "I .. I better call Mama.. or .. or... Bax! What's wrong?" Pushing aside her anger, she had to take care of her friend.

Deimos gave an odd groaning sound before he lay down tiredly onto the couch.. "I'm just a bit tired.." He started, but suddenly logic hit him in the head. This hadn't work on anyone else, why'd it work on her.. "I've been having nightmares.." He said, more honestly this time, keeping hsi eyes wide and open, though they stared off into nothingness.

Shaking her head, she sighed, settling Al on top of the TV, and then lowered the volume "Oh Dei." She sighed sitting on his chest and patting his cheek, much like her own mother would do to consult someone.

'Ask him about the nightmares.'

'I'll try.' Taking a deep breath she looked at him. "What kinda.. nightmares?"

He gulped, feeling much olike those people in the movies who went to the psy--whateverists.. "They're memories.." He said softly and moving his hand to his chest, his thumb moving slightly as it did many times, but hsi hadn wasn't even quite at her even. It was a sort of nervous habit.. "They're Erebus' memories.."

"Erebus's?" she blinked, crawling a bit more upwards towards his hand, patting it. "Maybe.. he's trying to tell you something.. warn you?" She shrugged. "When did they start happening?" She laid her head on the back of his hand, almost trying to calm him.

'Something's wrong.. he's very tired, the memories must be very bad for him to avoid sleep.. something must've happened to Erebus.'

'... You might be right.' She thought, waiting for his answer.

He stroked her head gently with his thumb. It was a calming movemenet for him, and now, he was rather sure he was just liek the movies, sittign on a couch and everything.. "He.. took over one day.." He said softly, regretfully.. "He.. bothered Lenore.." He said plainly, breathing, forcing his eyes to remain open. "I locked him away so he wouldn't do it again.. That's.. that's when..."

Aphrodite frowned, Erebus bothering Len? Oo.. what a poohead! She sighed looking up. There had to be a way to make this all better... there had to.

'...The only way to stop it is by releasing Erebus once more... this is a backlash of emotions locked away. He is too young.'

"Deimos... Why don't you try letting him back out?"

Deimos's face went stark white, quite an accomplishment seeing as his skin was normally yellow. "But what if he tried to take control.." He said, unaware of the panic and fear in his voice. "I've seen the things he's done, Smalls.. He.. he'd torture his own minions.. his own crew.." He said gulping, almost shaking at the thought of becoming that way, of doing these things..

Aphrodite frown, she then puffed up her cheeks. "You're not like him and you're stronger than that!" She stood up on his chest. "You would never ever do anythign like that at all... I know it!" She balled her hands into tiny fists, almost in a way to represent what she meant.

Deimos watched her, and felt worry rise in his chest.. "I'll..." He started, only just thinking of releasing the demon when he felt a particularly strong surge of sleep.

"Get me out!" His voice suddenly shriekd, changed and cold, but only for a moment.

Deimos woke, regaining control, he shuddered looking around in a slight panic.. "I.." He shook his head at APhrodite. "I'm don't want to hurt you.."

The smallest mishap stared at him for a momnet, her expression was not fear or worry, but of deep thought. Don't want to hurt me? ... Maybe Anastay was right.

' ... we need to reason with Erebus. '

"...Why don't I try talking to him? " She said finally. "Anastay said she could help me, she said she had powers like myself, and she could take me and I can talk to him."

Deimos eyed her slightly.. He needed this gone, he felt like he was liable to collapse at any moment and now that he'd been given a moment of freedom, Ereubus was lashing out for more..

"I.. be careful.." He said in a soft voice. He was worried, worried he'd do something he knew he'd regret later.. He searched his mind for Erebus, and found him, but he couldn't release him..His fear held him back..

Hovering up and then landing next to his head, like Anastay instructed her to do so, Aphrodite placed her hands on Deimos's temple. Closing her eyes she let go of herself.

Taking over, she pushed herself and Aphrodite deep into Deimos's mind. ' Hold my hand tightly.' Anastay smiled to wasp mishap, who seemed to be the proper sized.. at least in this form. The beautiful priestess kept a tight grip on her hand as they ventured into the darkness.

Deimos felt a soft weight on his temple before his eyes closed as well, tired, his mind unacostmed to having this many people in it.

In the darkness there were occasional flashes, not of light, but of pictures, sometimes moving soemtimes not, all terrible. There were mass murders, rapes, tortures, all of Erebus memories. They got stronger, brighter, more intense as the darkness grew thicker. They were getting close to where Erebus lay, chained, weak, and pained..

Anastay kept her grip on the young Aphrodite, taking a deep breath she used not her eyes, but her mind to find him. 'Close your eyes please, I don't want you to see these things.'

"You don't have to tell me..." Aphrodite whined a bit, covering her eyes with her free hand, event though she didn't see very much to begin with.

With a stern look on her face she held her hand out, traveling through the darkness, finally reaching the chained and pained Erebus. '...How far has the great fallen..' Anastay spoke softly, a pained look on her face.

Aphrodite gasped, he looked just like.. Deimos. Letting go of Anastay's hand, she rushed to grab the chain, trying to shake it loose. "We need to help him!" She called and then cried out in pain.

'Aphrodite!' Anastay cried rushing to the wasp girl's side, holding her, and then absorbed into herself. 'I've.. sent her back...To her mind. I will aid you in your freedom, Master Demon.' She explained, holding her hands over the chains, a small light glowed from her palms.

Erebus glanced up at Anastay, his face slack and pained. The one big difference between himself and Deimos were that instead of the billowing claok that Deimos ahd, two great wings grew from out of Erebus back. They were chained, broken in odd places from the strain, bleeding. He felt the light upon the chains and the maigic hurt, but he bore the wieght, anything to rid himself of these bindings.. "He.. he wouldn't let me go.."

Anastay glaces at the Master Demon, taking a deep breath. It was odd her magick shouldn't hurt him, at least if his minion had his way. It must've been how weak he was... ' I will set you free.' She needed to make her work quick. Trying to break Deimos's tight grip, whiddling away at his will power. 'Let it go..' Her voice was calm and soothing. 'He will not harm you any longer...' She spoke quietly.

Deimos tossed in a fitfull state of sleep, hearing an unfamiliar voice in his mind. It.. calmed him though, that voice.. He relaxed slightly, both in body and mind..

The bindings around Erebus became slack, there was a soft click and the fell off his battered form. His wings spread, scared, streching themselves out, they cracked, the muscled untightening. The images, the memories Erebus had sent out as a distress beacon faded and he clibed to his knees.

"I.." He seemed pained, perhaps from his cramped and bleeding wings, or his tightened muscled, or perhasp what he was about to say, but he said it anyways. Give creidt where credit was due.. "thank you.." He said.. He was going soft.. he knew it.

The priestess smiled, crouching down to the Master Demon's level. ' You're welcome...' She said quietly as she placed her hand on his shoulder, warmth emitted from her palms. The healing warmth, pushed itself from her hands and throughout his body, relaxing him... relieving him of his pain. '... Does it still hurt?' A spark of worry echoed in the back of her throat.

He closed his eyes, and his facial features seemed to lighten slightly. His time with Old lady Zir, with Deimos. They had softened him.. He felt the warmth rush over him and he shook his head. It didn't hurt.. The shadows inside of Deimos mind began to slowly fade as both beings began to regain themselves.. Erebus stood slowly, bringing himself up to full height.. "As much as I appreciate you help... I fear you must leave.." He said, watching scattered thought as Deimos released from the hold of the images. The Black Dawn sailed before them, large and magnificent.. "I doubt Deimos can stand thes emany presences in his mind for long.."

Back on the couch, Deimos gave a cheerful sigh, entirely overcome by sleep, peaceful sleep. No more nightmares burned his mind, nothing but smooth sailing..

' I understand. ' Anastay said quietly with a small nod, turning to leave, smiling she turned back to him and waved, fading away from sight.

There beside's Deimos's head was Aphrdoite, sleeping peacefully alongside him. Stirring a bit, she nuzzled closer, sucking her thumb.

Jizzy soon strode in, her mouth ready to call out Deimos' name when she stopped, her eyes falling upon the two sleeping mishaps. She resited the urge to aw. She also resited the urge to go off and get the camera.

She moved to them and gingerly picked up Deimos, nudging the sleeping Aphrodite fully onto his forehead so she would not fall off. She could still carry Deimos, with effort, but she could. SHe knew well that if he wanted to, he could carry her no sweat.. but now he seemed so.. peaceful.

She smiled broader, making her way out of the room, feeling relief swell in her chest as Deimos made no sounds in his sleep, just a pleasant smile on his face.. Her baby was ok again...

--Smooth Sailing--

Deimos smiled in his sleep. His dreamscape consided of him, sailing on the Balck Dawn. He could feel the sea spray sprinkle his face. He could almost smell it. He turned the ship adn it followed his every whim. The wind was on his side, that was, until the wind died out..

"I need to talk to you..." Erebus form was perched a top the crow's nest. He was intimidating. His two giant wings spread as he floated downwards, his naturally cold, red eyes gazing down at the Mishap.

Deimos wans't intimidated by him though, not anymore. "I don't want to talk to you.." He said turning around, looking out at the large, almsot endless ocean he dreamt about..

Erebus let otu a low growl. STubborn boy.. "We NEED to talk!" He siad, letting his tone rise.

"ABout what?!" Deimos shouted, his tone matching the demons.

"About us. What we are. We're linked, Deimos. You have to learn to accept that..."

Demos didn't answer.. He just stood there, back to Erebus. He knew, thsi was true, but he didn't want to admit it.

"You're stuck with me and you know it.. SO please... for both our sakes.. Just accept it.."

"NO!" He snapped around, eyes blazing. "I know the things you did. I saw them! You're.. you disgust me.." He said, his tone leveling out, anger still apparent.

Erebus just smirked, his fangs showing.. The physical resemblance between the two was astounding. The wings were the only big difference. "Good. I won't say I regret the things that I have done, for I don't.. But, you are right to be disgusted. You are right to try to be anything but myself.. You are not full demon. One cannot expect you to act as such..."

Deimos froze. Was Erebus admitting defeat? "I.. If I'm not fully demon, then what the hell am I?"

"A Mishap.. You are one of a kind, just liek all the others here. Being part demon is a lot of what you are but... not everything.." Erebus paused.. "I want to strike a deal with you..."

"What kind of deal?"

"If I.. do nothing but aid you, offer advice, train you.. If I am, as you may say, a good little demon.. In exchange for that good behavior... I want, to be allowed one day out, every 2 months.." Barganing with a child.. How low he had stooped.

Deimos had to think.. "ANd, when you are out.. I still have a say in what you do. No more messing around like you did with Len." He added, for extra safety. He had remained in the abckseat for very little time now and, eh hated it.

Erebus smiled. "Deal. I'll leave you to your dreaming now.." He said, smirking, smiling, or something in between. He spread his wings and flew off and as he left, the wind picked up, filling the sails.

Deimos hoped he'd done the right thing.. Just one day, every two months and on a short leash. How much trouble could he cause? He moved back to the helm.. He hoped it'd be smooth sailing from now on..

--Unlikely Protectors--
Participants - Deimos, Reid, Aido, Rico, Jizzy, Chao, Jean Claude and a giant lizard

It'd been several days now, Rico had gone and visited his sister numerous times. He'd brought the kids with him several times, though even more often he'd ended up bringing the bored out of her mind Chao books and other things to keep herself occupied as the long week inital week before the doctors would even consider letting her come home slowly passed.

The house proved oddly lonely without his sister's constant presence, though the kids helped, yet still, here he was, standing outside Jizzy's door and fidgeting. He was pondering whether she'd even really want him to come knocking, which of course led to mentally berating himself for acting like such a wimp, which led to more uncertainty...

Really, it was just a viscious, unrelenting cycle!

Making a face he straightened up and determinedly knocked on the door, if anything he could disguise he own clinginess by asking if she was doing alright.

The door was opened by rather tall, stunning man. He was pale, his tassled black hair framing his face, a few stray strands making it look like he had just gotten up. His clothes were high class, rich, old fashioned, and rather rumpled. His hazel eyes turned to Rico and he arched an eyebrow.. "Who are you?" He asked. They hadn't been expecting visitors.

Jizzy was somewhere in the darkened living room. THe windows were all boarded up and she was curled up in a chair. Her eyes red. SHe ahd obviously been crying..

Rico blinked and stared for a moment before mentally shaking himself out of it. Who in Hael's name was this guy?

Eyes narrowing the Heanzian teen stood up a bit straighter, returning the eyebrow arch, "I'm Rico Luaier, who are you? What are you doing in Jizzy's room?"

It took him a few minutes to register the name, but soon his face broke into a very large fanged grin. He looked like a large cat that was abotut to pounce on a cornered bird. "Rico.. Oh, I am sorry to not have introduced myself.. I am Jean Claude La Roche, an old friend of Mahlah's. Come inside.." He said, ushering the boy inside. "Please be quiet, I just got Mahlah to finally get some sleep.." He said, pointing to the couch where Jizzy lay, curled up like a small child. THe pillow she rested on was wet with tears, her eyes rigned slightly.

Rico felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end but allowed himself to be ushered into the room without protest, barely curbin the desire to look through Jizzy's cookware for a frying pan.

Sighting Jizzy he grimaced and raked a hand through his hair in distress.

"She's been doing badly then?" he asked, looking to this Jean Claude man for confirmation, as he'd either just committed murder and about to make it a double case or actually knew Jizzy from before she started to call herself Jizzy.

Jean Claude rushed a finger through his black curls and nodded. "Unfortunatly.. Mahlah's been worried sick.. She's sure her sister will be coming for her any minute.." He let out a long sigh, leading Rico a couch oposite the one where Jizzy slept.. "She won't sleep unless I convince her too.. She barely eats.."

His eyes slowly moved from Jizzy to Rico and they seemed a lot colder. "She blames herself for what happened to your sister.. I hope you had nothing to do with that feeling of guilt..."

Rico let's himself be led but doesn't sit, he's stuck cursing whoever coined the phrase 'bad things come in packs' and damning their accuracy along with adding yet another worry to his list. A list of worries... this really isn't something he's used to having.

At the accusation his eyes narrowed to slits and he leveled a glare at Jean Claude, and for just a moment a little of the once hailed Heanzian fierceness is seen in his usually calm and comforting fascade, "neither myself, nor my sister, blame Jizzy for what happened," he snapped out, tone low, "and we have made our feelins as clear as possible. Neither of us have any desire to see her suffer, her sister is quite another matter."

He crosses his arms and glances back to the curled up form of his girlfriend, gaze softening in obvious worry, and the moment's gone, "we're worried, about a lot of things, including her, though I didn't think she'd be in such a state..." which was utterly rediculous, now that he thought about it, Jizzy was never one to take things likely.

This answer seemed to suffice for Jean Claude, for now. Besides anyone who wanted Amalia to suffer was alright in his book.

"She does have a tendency to beat herself up about things, especially when it comes to her sister.." He sighed, leaning back. "I haven't had the pleasure of meeting her, but Mahlah has told me a lot about her recently.. Did you know that b***h tried to drown Mahlah when they were children?" He said, his voice like venom. He hated to see Jizzy suffer and Amalia brought about a lot of that..

Rico finally sat, heavily and buried his head in his hands, feeling the dull simmer of anger at the woman who'd done such a lovely job of screwing many things up at once jump a bit as more kindling was added to it, "somehow that doesn't surprise me, though how Jizzy and that woman came from the same womb is quite beyond me...."

"From what I have heard, Mahlah was the anomaly.. Her whole family adores Amalia.." Jean Claude sighed, lowering his voice as Jizzy gave an audible groan in her sleep.. "She's having nightmares again.." He whsipered, standing and kneeling by the couch, rushing his finger throguh Jizzy hair. It didn't seem to help to much..

Rico pulled a face at that, what a hurrendously weird family... except Jizzy who obviously didn't count.

When Jean Claude's minstrations proved ineffective Rico couldn't help it when some small little part of him cheered. This feeling of, well, possessiveness for his women (who were obviously his property and an collective, he thought sarcasticly with a mental snort at himself) was quite strange in itself and he hadn't quite adjusted to it. As a reult it was causing all sorts of bizarre feelings.

Standing he made his way over. Glaring in the most well meaning way possibly he silently shooed Jean Claude's hand away before taking one of Jizzy's hands in one of his own and rubbing at it gently. Ducking his head down he brushed a kiss at her forehead, steadfastly ignoring Jean Claude entirely, and dropped his voice.

"Shhh Jizzy, everything's alright now, it's just Rico, I'm here, shhh..." he wispered gently.

She calmed at his toucha t his voice and her lips quirked into a sort of silly smile. Jean Claude watched, his eyes taking all of this in.. "At first I didn't believe it.. but.. you really do seem to have an effect on her.. congrats.." He said, perhaps a bit bitterly as he took his seat again.

With no intention of leaving Rico merely settled down, keeping one hand connected to Jizzy's. His expression was stuck somewhere between a bit of bizarre sympathy and quiet triumph as he took in Jean Claude.

Deciding this wasn't the place or time for a pissing contest he tilted his head curiously, his hair catching a bit around his horns, "so, you and Jizzy go way back then?"

He waved his hand in the air iddly, thinking. "You could say that.. Mahlah and I have known each other for over 600 years now.. We were lovers.." He added that little tidbit jsut for kicks. It had been a very short lived fling. He though of Jizzy in more of a sisterly way than anythign else, not that he was entirely against incest.

Rico shuts his eyes, 600 years... what was that, six times his expected lifespan?

And of course the man had to throw in that little helpful tidbit. Fine, pissing contest it was, "well, I can see how much of an impression that- a fling was it?- left." He says, tilting his head and rubbing at their connected hands with an innocent smile on his face.

"It left impression enough for her to call me first, Mortal boy..." He said cassually, not losign his cool, yet. He'd been under a lot of stress. With Jizzy liek this, Deimos being a general troublemaker and Tal being just a babe. He was here out of a favor to Jizzy. He owed her.

"Would you call someone who's sister was in the hospital?" Rico challenges back, though inside the words stung. He nearly added something else but some part of his mind howled against it.

In the back of his mind Rico could feel age old manners attempting to rise to the surface and while he snarled against it it did absolutely no good. He flopped his head back, against Jizzy's stomach actually, which proved to feel warm and tingly with the hint of magic.

"And... well..." where the hell had the compulsive desire to apologize come from?!

Probably because, somehow, the man looked as internally compressed as he felt, and already he was sick of fighting.

"Okay, sorry, I'm quite sure your's and Jizzy's relationship is extensive and lasting and impression... leaving, she called you because she believed you would be best and I was a bad canidate for whatever reason. There, you win." He shut his eyes and pressed the bunt of his horns against Jizzy's shirt covered stomach for comfort, so much for possessive, righteous fury then...

Jean Claude smirked widely, ok, it was time to tell him the truth. "She called me because she was worried you wouldn't want to hear from her.. Besides.. I'm a centuries old vampire, I do believe I could hold my own against that b***h sister of hers a bit better than you could.."

Jizzy gave another mumble, her hands searching for Rcio's face.. One fell onto his cheek and she mumbled something that sounded very apologetic.. She may haven just started to come around..

"Of course I-ugh, Jizzy's quite silly sometimes.... And, yes, you probably could, though I've proven I'm quite handy with a frying pan and a very sharp butcher knife," Rico suggests, eyes still closed, though obviously more relaxed than before. Sail your flag high today live to fight another day~ or something like that.

And hallo, those were hands, on his face...

Giving Jizzy's hand a brief squeeze he opened his eyes a bit, "Jizzy, luv, you alright? You waking up?" he asked softly.

Jizzy sniffled slightly, opening her eyes.. "I.. Rico?" She said, her hand faliing from his face, guilt shining in her bloodhsot eyes. "I.. sorry.." SHe sat up, rushing fingers through her hair. "I'm such a mess.."

Jean Claude rolled his eyes. Yes.. She is very silly sometimes. "Calm down, Mahlah, will you?" He said, keeping his eyes closed, his palm on his forehead.

Rico reaches up and tugs her back down, snatching back the hand that was resting comfortably and leaning back against her warm stomach. He looked astoundingly like a content cat who would be much more content if its perch would simply lie down and give it its desired warmth and touch.

"You look fine, heavenly even. We are unkept together," it's true, his hair is standing up in tufts because he's been rubbing it against the chair and on close inspection there are circles beneath his eyes, "calm down."

Jizzy seemed slightly shocked. Wouldn't he angry.. no.. he was just warm.. SHe moved her hand up to his head, playing with his umkept locks slightly.. "I.. didn't expect you to come.. I. Jean Claude let you in, right?" SHwe said looking over, and Jean Claude just nodded. He needed to rest before the devil children arrived.

Rico smiled and nodded serenely.

"Of course I came, I was worried," and lonely, a little voice muttered but he didn't say it aloud, his masculenity had already suffered enough blows. Besides, he was being clingy enough to say it without having to use words.

He.. was worried about her.. A goofy little smile quirked Jizzy's lips and she shuffled towards the back of the couch, allowing more room for Rico to rest on it with her.. "Well.. I.. stregthened my wards and Jean Claude here.. He doesn't look it, but he packs a punch.. I.. You guys have been careful, right?" She asked, worry the only thing in ehr tone. When it came to Amalia, Jizzy was always a bit irrational and jittery.
Rico immediately moved to occupy the evacuated space, curling up against Jizzy contentedly.

"We're being careful and I've set up more escape routes from home, and Aido helped me set up some alarms," if Amalia was to come to their home they'd be able to get warning, regardless of how the woman came, such was, as the Tale had explained, one of the glorious things about using sentries. And then they'd be gone.

Or Aeon would attempt to blow off the woman's head.

Or, somehow, they'd manage both.

Jizzy nodded her arms wrapping around Rico as she sighed. "I've jsut.. I've been so worried. She knows where we are and.. she could show up at any moment... and.." Tears began to leak past Jizzy's eyes.. again.. "and I just don't know how to deal with her..."

Rico gently reached up, brushing at Jizzy's cheeks, "she could... you're right, but Jizzy, by living in fear you're, honestly, only helping her. It sounds like part of her aim is to make you as misrable as possibly...."

He paused, collecting the snippit of a larger story that seems to be appropriate, "'My love, we are here, we are now, and those other times are running elsewhere.' We have to keep living the in present, Jizzy, otherwise, essentially, she's already won, she's already killed us. We'll deal with her when we have to...."

Jizzy's mind took in his words.. It probably was Amalia's aim to make her as miserable as possible.. If it wasn't Amalia would have already killed her. She sniffled, the tears not wanting to stop.

"I just.. I've spent my whole life running from her.. and now.. I can't.. I feel cornered.. I.. I'm trapped and.." She sobbed, clinging to Rico.. "I don't want her to win..."

"There's no use reasoning with her.. It's a phobia.." Jean Claude piped in, not even opening his eyes to speak..

Rico took her in his arms and rubbed at her back, ignoing Jean Claude completely, "so what if we're cornered? If we're cornered and happy then we're winning in one way. And when she finally makes another move we'll do whatever we have to do to stay happy," he smiled shakily, "what's the use of fighting if what you're fighting far has fallen out of reach because you were too scared to live it while it lasted?"

That. that was the difference.. Before she could run because.. she didn't have anything to fight for, but now.. she did. She had Deimos, he had Tal, she had Rico.. She ahd all of them.. She sniffled gripping him tighter..

"I.." She wasn't quite sure how to tell him she'd had this revelation so instead she just looked up, with her tear stained cheeks, put on a small grin and kissed him..

Rico blinked at the sudden kiss and smiled into it, not at all displeased with this turn of events. Closing his eyes he moved his hands up, nestling them in the hair that lapped at the base of her neck and returned the kiss warmly.

Jean Claude opened up a single eye, watching them. Yes he was good for her... And not that bad of a kisser wither..

Jizzy felt warmth rise in her and she pulled away slowly, lips twictching into a smile.. "I.. We can beat her.." She whispered, newfound conviction stirred deep within her.. She needed to beat Amalia.. for all of them.

Rico nodded and knocked their forehead together gently, "we will."

Jizzy felt strength rise up inside her. She could and she would.. for all of them... The distant opening and closing of a door didn't seem to phaze her as she closed her eyes contentedly, smiling at Rico.

"'Lo maniac.." Deimos greeted Jean Claude from a distance, making sure to keep his voice low in case his mother had finally been able to get some sleep.

"Hello, psychopath." Jean Claude greeted back. "You can talk normally. Mahlah is up and we have company.."

Deimos turned the corner. COmpany? WHo would come and.. oh.. "you.. What are you doing here?" He asked at the sight of Rico. What was he doing here indeed. Didn't he know it was his fault. Mother was sick because of him and he had the nerve to come and visit, let alone lay down so close to her.

Rico couldn't help but wonder what would happen if he simply ignored Deimos. He glanced at his clothing, gauging whether it would be worth it to get them charred....

With a sigh he shifted so he was on his back, looking over to Deimos tiredly. "Visiting your mother, how're you Deimos?"

"I'm doing fine..." He replied coldly. "But she's not. Whenever she goes near you something bad happens to her!" He siad, pointing at his mother. He'd never quite gotten a chance to face Rico, so he wasn't going to lose it..

"Deimos! Please.. It isn't Rico's fault!" Jizzy said, sitting up, trying to reason with him.

Deimos just shook his head. "It is his fault! You haen't slept, you don't eat, and when you do sleep you spend half the night mumbling about him or some crazy woman!"

Rico sighed aloud this time and sat up, giving the Demon Mishap a level look, "Deimos, as much as I'd love to, I can't control what goes on around me, I'm sorry that crap happened, but the only part I had in it was inviting Jizzy to a dinner that rapidly went downhill because of something neither of us could prevent. It isn't Jizzy's fault, it isn't mine, or my sister's. If you're going to blame anyone blame the woman who caused all this."

Rant finished he looked to Jizzy, giving her a questioning look, obviously wondering if she's bothered to explain the entire situation to Deimos yet.

Jizzy avertd her eyes in shame.. SHe ahdn't really explained it all to Deimos, nto yet..

"So who is the damned woman who keeps coming after Mother?!!" Deimos shouted. He was bent on it being some dark past of Rico's that kept coming and biting his other in the arse.

"She's my sister, Dei.." Jizzy said softly, which made Deimos fall quiet.. "My sister is after me Dei, because I.. I'm supposed to be dead.."

The news hit Deimos like a pile of bricks. It hadn't been layed out to him like this before.. THis woman, this Amalia wanted his mother dead.. "And Rico?"

"He's helping to protect me.. us.. Just like Jean Claude.."

Deimos looked at Rico, then at the vampire. Could they really protect her.. "You... you better take good care of Mother.." He said ina hiss at Rico..

Mentally Rico sighed again but externally he just nodded his head to Deimos, "I will."

His eyes glanced to his wristwatch and he grimaced, moving to stand up, shoulder protesting at the sudden movement from the posistion it was comfortable in. "Bugger, I've got to head off, I promised to take Chao up some things today and bring Reid to visit. She probably thinks I've been eaten by now."

Jizzy's face fell instantly at the thought of Rico leaving. She wanted him to stay. She wanted to hold him and know he was safe.

Jean Claude noted the change in her face and he sat up. "Don't worry ,Rico my boy.. I remember your sister, lovely girl. I'll take Deimos and this boy, Reid, to go see her." He said, standing. "Just point me in the right direction."

"I'm not going anywhere with you!"

Jean Claude glared at Deimos and nudged his ehad at Jizzy's saddened face.

The boy understtod and sighed. "Yah.. I've wanted to visit AUnt CHao anyways.." He said..

Rico eyed both of them, feeling more than a little uneasy about leaving his sister and his nephew in the hands of those two.

Still... his shoulder could use the rest and he wouldn't say no to spending some time with Jizzy.

Finally he nodded slowly, "alright... Reid should be in his room, we've got a few portals all hooked up that'll get you directly there, he knows the way and should have Ae' stuff."

"Lovely. We'll be back soon." Jean Claude said, standing and adjusting his shirt. He rushed his fingers through his hair, fizing it up. "Come on, demon boy.."

Deimos cast an angry glance at Rico. "If she even has a scratch on her.." He hissed and departed after Jean Claude, slamming the door behind him.. "Reid's room is this way." He said, treading off and knocking heavily on the door.

Jizzy looked after them and smiled gently. Jean Claude could be such a dear sometimes.. "Come on Rico.. What do you say we give them a few minutes to get out and then we go finish that wonderful dinner you made us.." She said, placing a hand on his..

Throwing Jean Claude a greatful smile and ignoring Deimos' threat Rico smiled warmly, "that sounds great," all the same he lays back down and against her, chuckling, "you're like one big heating pad...."

There's piano music coming from within but it's not Reid who answers the door a moment later, it's Aido. Rael is at her side, hackles raised and looking more like a large guard dog than ever before.

The Tale blinked, quirking an eyebrow, "Dei? What're you doing here?" she asked curiously, Rael's hackles don't go down as her eyes shift to Jean Claude, "who is this?"

Deimos shrugged. "Hey, Aido.. This is Jean Claude, don't mind him...." He said, rather happy to see Aido, but upset it had to be with this jerk. "He's an old friend of mothers.. We'd like to go visit Chao."

Jean Claude flashed a brilliant fanged smile to Aido. "Pleasure to meet you. Ms. Aido.." He siad, bowing and taking Aido's hand, kissing it gingerly.

Jizzy smiled and wrapped an arm around Rico. "You're rather toasty yourself.." She said, content for now.. "and you smell nice.." She said honestly. The room seemed brighter, warmer with him..

Rael let out a low snarl when the vampire took Aido's hand.

The Tale herself vaguely slips away, and blue eyes regarded the vampire. She smiled with courtly graciousness and bowed slightly, "the pleasure is ours," and then Aido's bi-colored eyes blink and she nodded, taking in what Deimos said.

She tilted her head, considering the vampire, but mentally shrugs it off, his shadow feels fine enough, touching Rael behind the ear her Companion backs off a bit. "Alright, Reid's just over here, I guess Rico's staying with your Mu then?"

Rico chuckled, "I'm happy I showered before I came over." He commented idly, twining their legs together.

"Yes, those two lovebirds wanted to spend some time together..." Jean Claude said, standing in the doorway.

Deimos strode inside, growling iddly at the mention of the lovebirds. "Come on, maniac, whacha waiting for? We want to get AUnt Chao while she's awake.

Jean Claude coughed and pointed to his fangs.. "I can't, until the lovely lady invites me in.." He said, chuckling richly.

SHe gave a little happy laugh. Things were better with Rico. Her stomach gave a small grumble. SHe'd been laying off on eating since Valentines, but she didn't say a word.. "I'd stay here even if you hadn't.." She said..

Aido blinked curiously, wondering why he couldn't come in with her invitation, "oh well, yes, come in."

Reid looked up at the growl, finally detaching himself from his playing and blinked, fingers hovering over the keys, "Dei?" he looked towards the doorway, "and Jean Claude, you're coming too?" he asked, standing up from the piano stool, around his neck is an ermine, who growls, tail flicking as she takes in Deimos and Jean Claude.

"Nima," Reid chastized quietly and was flicked in the face with her tail as a result.

Aido looked to her brother, "it sounds like Uncle Rico's staying with Jizzy and Dei and Jean Claude are going with you to see Aemu instead."

"Oh, alright," Reid says, picking up a box, obviously a little confused by this turn of events but for once not in the mood to question it. Around his neck Nima huffed.

"Mmm... you'll tolerate my body odor? That's a fine thing to know..." he poked at her stomach, "am I going to have to start making all your meals? And watching you eat them? I can and will do both you know."

Jean Claude strode in now.. The rules could be rather touchy with him sometimes and he'd rather have a direct invitation than risk it otherwise. "Yes, Reid.. Rico said something about a portal?

Deimos looked up.. An ermine.. That was new. "Does she bite?" He said, his ahnd reaching tentatively to pet the furry animal..

Jizzy chuckled absentimindedly. "No.. No.. I just.." She paused, trying to think up a good excuse as to why she hadn't eaten.. "I just.. been a little ill.. Lost my appetite.." She said, it was the best she could come up with..

"Oh, yeah, that, see the doorhandle? If you shift it...erm, clockwise...?" he glanced to Aido, who nodded, "then open the door it'll lead to the hospital," Reid replied. Around his neck Nima tensed and he pet her gently, nodding to Deimos, "she bites, she scratches and I'm fairly certain she hates just about everyone," the firefly warned.

Nima's beady eyes glared up at the firefly Mishap and her tail flicked, well just for that she calmed her hackles and merely glanced away from the two Mishaps. The motion was oddly reminiscent of a noble woman upturning her nose on a group of peasants.

Reid rolled his eyes, "or she might just ignore you. Ai, where're Mu's things?"

"Here," Aido replied, sitting on the now regrown piano stoll she pushed a medium sized box towards her brother and Deimos.

Rico gave her a level look, actually, rather, it was one of his patented 'do you really think I believe you?' looks.

"Lovely, let's be off then!" He said, tugging at his pocket and pulling out a pair of sunglasses inc ase of the bright flourescent lights. He scooped up the box, and turned the hadnle, opening the door. "Come on boys, the night is young!"

Deimos retracted his hand.. He had wanted to touch the furry thing. "Oh well.." He glowered right back at it. "I bet AUnt Chao is waiting for her stuff."

Jizzy shrunk at his gaze.. "Ok.. maybe I've just forgotten.." She said softly.. She did this.. When she felt bad, she just wouldn't eat.. She couldn't even help it.. She just wouldn't..

Nima ignored him and Reid. Actually, with her upturned muzzel and her steady, beady stare she looked quite like a badly stuffed mink.

Reid grinned but wisely didn't state the comparison aloud. He nodded to Jean Claude, "yeah, let's go," a little of his normal enthusiam leaked through as he hopped into the air, hovering a little ways off the ground. Flying had proven itself to be much easier than trying to keep up with peoples whose strides were several times longer than his on foot.

"Jizzy, people don't just forget to eat," Rico poked at her again, looking gravely serious and more than a little concerned.

Jean Claude strode through the portal, appearing in the hospital. The people milled about. This apperently wasn't to odd. "Which way is her room, Reid?" He asked, still smiling.

Deimos followed gravely. "So, where'd that scarf come from?" He asked rather snidely. He'd just wanted to pet the ermine. It didn't have to be so vile about it..

Jizzy didn't answer. Her hands went to cover her belly, to prevent anymore poking.. "I just.. I've been thinking a lot.. and.." She trailed off. She didn't have a valid reason WHY she had stopped eating.. She just had..

Reid looked around, getting his bearings back. "That way, number 168," he said after a moment, pointing to their left then looked down at Deimos, shrugging slightly, "well, I screwed up a casting and accidently shrunk myself and she tried to eat me..." he tried to continue and frowned when his throat threatened to close. Nima looked bitterly smug. Or as bitterly smug as an ermine could look, anyway.

"I...knew...something," he managed out finally, working around the lump and panted, giving up, "but I don't think I can say anything about it. It's really frustrating, I think she's," what was the word? "cursed...?"

Rico frowned but didn't push it, eyes traveling towards the ceiling her paused consideringly, "I think I am going to start sending you meals, then you'll have to eat them or else you'll feel terribly guilty." He smiled smugly, obviously proud of his plan.

"Cursed? But that ermine is lovely! Have you seen it's coat?" Jean Claude commented offhandly. If it was in fact a cursed person, by thier actions they may appreciate a compliment.

Deimos rolled his eyes. "Why don't you just get rid of the thing, or better sell it on the market place. Those mink scarve things sell well." He said, continuing through the halls.

Jizzy chuckled. He knew her too well. She nuzzled into his neck. "I'm sorry.. I just.. Regressed a bit.. I promise I'll eat, you don't need to go through all that trouble for me.."

Reid laughed when Nima preened a bit at the compliment and shrugged at Deimos, "I couldn't do that to her... and, really, she's not awful all the time," he gave Nima's ermine tail a small fond pat and was nearly bitten for it.

Reid paused and looked around as the scenery suddenly became familar, "Mu's room is right..." he looked down the hallway a bit and pointed, "there."

"Mmm, alright, if you say so, though if I get any word that you've stopped eating again I will carry out my threat. And really, it wouldn't be any trouble, Ae' always says I cook too much anyway," he chuckled and yawned gently.

Jean Claude knocked twice on the door before opening it and peering his head in. "Hello? I have a delivery for a lovely woman by the name of Chao." He said, stepping inside. He was very pleased when he got to go out.

Deimos followed inside. "Lo Aunt Chao.. woah.. Neat wings!" He stated, his fondness for wings showing through. He had always wanted a pair of his own.

"Alright." She said, nuzzling his neck and cheek. "I just don't want you to worry about me.." She said. If 800 years weren't enough to killl her, not much would..

A book came flying at the door as soon as it opened, striking Jean Claude neatly in the shoulder before flopping onto the ground. It was a chemistry textbook.

Chao had the decency to look a bit embarassed as she registered who was actually there, "oh, erm, hello, Jean Claude, right? From Christmas? Sorry about the book," what was he doing here? She tilted her head, automaticly pulling her wings a bit closer to her as they were noticed, "and Dei too?"

Reid flew in to enthusiasticly hug his mother and flop on the blanket, recieving a hair ruffle in return and a fond pat on Nima. "And Reid n'Nima! To what do I owe this visit?"
--
Rico returned the nuzzel gently, "it's natural to worry about those you care about, so trying to get me to stop is going to be quite difficult." He looked around, "I'd say we've given them enough time to get there, shall we head to my house and get out those leftovers?"

Jean Claude nodded, beding down to pick up the book that had been thrown at him.. "Right. I'm so glad you remember me, angel.." He said, moving to her bedside and laying down the book and the box on the table. "Your brother sent you this.."

Deimos frowned at the ermine.. He wanted to pet it.. "They've been taking good care of you here, right Aunt Chao?"

Jizzy nodded softly, her stomach giving another little rumble at the mention of food. "That sounds good. I bet it'll all be delicious.." She said, shifting slightly to move out from the couch.

Chao's wings visible twitched at the nickname and she pondered throwing the book at him again.

The urge was stomped out when she realized what the box was, "my laptop, thank gods!" A link to the outside world! Her movies! Fanfiction! MUSIC. Maybe she wouldn't die of boredom here after all.

At Deimos' question she sighed and shrugged, "they're fine, though, quite honestly, I'd much rather just go home, or hael, back to school, this place is horrendously boring. And I'm not all that happy about having needles poked at me either."
--
"Mmm, here's hoping," Rico replied, rolling off the couch and standing then offering her a hand to help her up.

Jean Claude, though rather able with women, knew very little about computers so he gazed at the thing with newfound curiousity... "That is one of those portable compu-thingagigers, yes?" No, not the brightest in the bunch he was..

"Needles?!" Deimos exclaimed. What a horrible place. If they poked needles in you.. "I'll torch the next person who tries to put a needlein you Aunt Chao!"

She accepted his hand gratefully. "I know.. You're a wonderful cook." She said, lifting herself up and started out of the apartment. "You cook, you fight, what can't you do?"

Chao laughed richly, "computer, yes, it's a laptop actually. It is my link to sanity," she pet the sleek black casing fondly.

Chao blinked and smiled slightly, "honestly that's... quite a nice offer Dei, but don't, 'kay? They're just trying to help and keep me from getting more sick. Sadly, needles seem to be the 'best' way of doing it."
--
Rico headed after her, "hrm, what can't I do? Many things, but I don't want to spoil your impression of me, so I won't bother to list them."

Jean Claude was very curious to know more about this lap-pot, so he slunk down onto the bed beside Chao, his head peering dangerously close to hers. "Will you teach me how to work it?" He asked politely.

Deimos growled at Jean Claude.. Always putting the moves on someone. "Whacha say I just torch him?"

"Very little would spoil my impression of you.." She said matter of factly, moving towards Reid's room and peering inside. She wanted to make sure everyone was gone first..

Chao tilted her head at the request, completely oblivious to the general rule of edicate that said 'one should not let near-strangers slide into bed with you.' Such is what years of sharing beds did to one.

"Sure, I'll try," she replied warmly a moment later, poping open the laptop and turning it on, smiling in deep satisfaction when the chime of the system booting up sounded. "See this button and the little insigna on it? That's the power button, most look vaguely the same, it turns the system on."

The Heanzian teen gave Dei a curious look at the quip and shifted a now sleeping Reid over to her other side, "if you torch him the bed would go up in flames, and isn't he a friend of your mum's?"
--
The room was empty as Aido and Rael had left some time ago. Rico strode in and shifted the doorknob back into its normal place. "That is another helpful thing to know, though, praytell, what should I avoid doing in order to keep that wonderful impression intact?"

Jean Claude peered at the computer with interest, shifting closer to Chao to mantain a solid seat on the small bed. "Wonderful.. and what sort of things can this lap-pot do?" He asked, perching his head on her shoulder to get a better view.

"Yah.. Mother says I'm not allowed to torch him unless he does something wrong.." He said, which was true.. Jizzy knew how reckless Jean Claude could be at times..

Jizzy had to think for a while, as she moved to the closet where she knew the portal back to the main house would be.. "Only on thing comes to mind really, adn that'd be getting friendly with my sister.." She said, half joking as she turned to smle at him.. "But we all know that'll never happen, right?" She asked, rather hopeful.. She didn't want Amalia outdoing her again..

"Top, lap-toooop," Chao stressed, poking at the touch pad and entering her password quickly, a moment later her desktop popped up, "and it can do a lot. You can get on the internet," she moved the pointer over to gesture at the internet icon, "and; read things, check weather, talk to other people, plot hostile takeovers, research things, or, depending on the tools it's equipped with, the computer itself will let you listen to music, draw, do work, translate things, watch movies, excetera."

"Hrm, that's pretty loose criteria, what counts as wrong?" Chao asked curiously, were the different stages perhaps? Different levels which corresponded to different amounts of torching?
--
Rico's face was deadpan, "yes, yes Jizzy, I'm about to go elope with your sister who has not only apparently attempted to make your life a living hell for a very long time but rather effectively put my sister in the hospital. Yes, right now, we'll go to that place, what's it called, Vegas? Yes, shotgun wedding and all that."

He rolled his eyes and grabbed her hand, tugging her through the portal.

Jean Claude stared in awe at it. "How amazing.." He said, intruigued by the machine to no end. "And you sya you can plot hostile takeovers.. Well this would have been useful a while back.." He said. His bored fingers, to prevent himself from raching out and touching the laptop, scuttled behind him, tickling at a feather from her wings..

"Mother said any hyupnosis, bloodsucking or sex counts as bad.." He said rather bluntly.. Jean Claude did put people careful about those things..

She chuckled softly.. There was nothing to worry about.. She had been silly to think Rico would ever go for Amalia.. All the same she gave his hand a soft squeeze to reassure herself.. "Right.. but other than that I'll always have an amazing image of you.."

Chao mauvered the mouse and set on E Nomine, humming along to the German lyrics. As Jean Claude's hand tickled a wing the appendage prompty tensed and flapped a bit, tightening closer to her back. She glared at him briefly at the invasion of space.

"Mhmm, yeah, but you need an idea of what you're doing and how to use the machine correctly," she replied, idly playing with the sleeping Reid's hair.

At Deimos' response she laughed at Jean Claude's apparently short leash, "those seem like be valid reasons to roast someone."
--
"Mmmmhmm..." Rico replied absently, and led her through the house and down the stairs. Even his stomach was growling now and he was eager for the waiting meal.

The music pleased Jean Claude and he nodded along, his lips moving idly, though he knew none of the words.. He noted her wings reaction and internally sighed. He was rather fond of feathery things.. "Yes.. Mahlah drains me of any fun when I come to visit, but.. I couldn't refuse her.. not in her current state.." He said, his head shifting to find a more comfortable position atop Chao's shoulder.

Deimos frowned at the mention of his mother's state, ut said nothing. "I think those rules should always be there. You're too much trouble.." Which was a real irony coming from the demon's mouth..

Descending the stairs with extra caution, Jizzy amanged to make it down without falling on her bum. A little goofy grin spread across her features at the success and she continued to the kitchen.. Pulling her hand from his she moved to the refridgerator and opened it.. She wanted to help prepare it.. "Wow, Rico, how much food did you make?"

Chao shifted her head a bit so there was more room. It was probably odd how a simply touch to her wings was an invasion of space but this was perfectly normal. Oh well, such was perception.

"Mmm, yes, I agree with Dei," Chao stated with a tiny, amused smile.
--
Rico raked a hand through his hair and peeked into nearly stuffed fridge, "erm, lots?"

"Oh come now, angel, don't tell me you agree with him? What's a bit of blood exchange between friends?" He said, truning his head and placing a kiss on Chao's neck, careful to only have his fang cause a bit of pressure on it.

Deimos rolled his eyes. "I'd watch out, AUnt Chao.. Mother has a tight hold on him but still.." He said, glaring at the flirty vampire.

Jizzy simply chuckled picking out some rice and meat from the vast selection. "This look good?" She asked him, holding up her selections to recieve his approval.

Grey eyes widening a bit Chao prompty struck Jean Claude over the head with one of the nearby books and proceeded to glower at him.

"Lots if the friend isn't a willing participant," she stated, with a slightly menacing wave of the book in her hand. "And, je n'aime pas appeller 'angel', s'il vous plait," she snapped, rusty french seeming to be bizarrely appropriate then smiled at Deimos, "thanks for the warning Dei."
--
Rico sniffed a bit at the dish and nodded, "looks good."

He rubbed at his head, his sly smile pastered onto his face. "I was just joking, just joking.. I only drink from willing victims, or Mahlah.. You have no need to worry, Ang... Chao..." He said, catching himself. She had asked so nciely, and in french as well.

Deimos eyes flared. "You drink from Mother?"

"Yes. Didn't you know? For a while she was our lifeline.. She kept the three of us alive.."

"And you still drink from her?"

"She's very resilient, and yes.. When she offers of course I do.."

His fist clenched angrily. He was so smug.. But he'd promised mother not to hrut him and as Jean Claude had said, in ehr state, it was hard to refuse her..

Jizzy smiled and nodded, serving it out onto two plates and placing it in the microwave. She put the timer on and turned back to Rico, smiling.. "There.. See.. Today I cook for you.."

Chao looked from Jean Claude to Deimos before offering the demon Mishap the book, "while I agree with drinking from willing victims, and Dei you can't blame your mum for helping out a friend, would you like to smack him? Erm, relatively gently of course."
--
Rico laughed warmly, leaning against the counter, "you are a godess of the kitchen Jizzy.

"Are you insane? The little devil child will probably rip my head off.."

But Deimos had already taken the book. He gripped it tightly and swung at Jean Claude's shoulder angrily. A loud smack was heard and he handed it back.. "there.. I went easy on you.."

Jean Claude whimpered playfullly and rubbed at his arm. He had gone easy.. "Oh but it'll leave a bruise, and I don't veen have any circulation!"

Jizzy smiled at the compliment, feeling a warm feeling rise inside her at the fact that she could do soemthng, howver small, for Rico. The good feeling would soon be dashed as the microwave pinged done.. She moved, still smiling and opened the door.

Steam was rising steadily from the food. She reached in gripping both plates when heat seared through her fingers. In shocked she dropped the scalding plates, the food splattering onto the floor. "I'm sorry!" She cried out bending down to pick up a shard of plate, which she dropped as it only burnt her reddened fingers even more.. "I'm sorry..."

"Very good," Chao stated pleasantly taking back her book and storing it somewhere safe, silently apologizing to the poor tome. She threw Jean Claude an amused look, "you're a vampire, you'll heal."

She paused then gestured over towards a small cooler, "but, there's an extra bloodbag or two in there if you want it. They've been keeping it on hand just in case something inside me spontaneously bursts," it was impossible to tell from her tone whether she was serious or not.
--
Rico waved her off, "there are three children and my sister living in this house, this happens all the time. Go run your fingers under cold water," he nudged her off.

"Lovely!" He exclaimed, to the bloodba comment of course and leapt to hsi feet, opening up the cooler and taking out a bag. He craddled it fondly and smiled, retaking his seat on the bed as he punctured the edge of the bag with his teeth and began to drink. He looked positively giddy.

Deimos, however much he liked blood, was not going to ask Jean Claude to share, nor take Chao's last one.. incase well.. "I hope nothing exploded.." He voiced..

Jizzy nodded somberly and moved to the sink, flipping in on with her wrist and placng her fingers under the rushing water... SHe couldn't even do the tiniest thing without messing up.. She winced as the water clashed with the heat in her fingers and tears began to form in her eyes. She could never do anything right.. not even something as simple as microwaving something.. The tears spilled forth, but she hid her sobs. Her sister floated across her mind and she gave a single racking sob.. Amalia would never do anything as clumsy as this..

Chao leant her chin on her hands, vampires were odd. Near eternal life but you had to kill for it. Always, otherwise... what? You went crazy? Privately she prefered her moderately peaceful short span and occassional grass eating ways.

She smiled gently at Deimos, "nothing inside me has exploded yet. I'll be fine."
--
Rico dumped the broken plates in the trash compactor before meandering over and peering over Jizzy's shoulder, "you get cut?" he inquired gently.

Jean Claude remained silently sucking on the puch. His face looking almsot liek some giddy child out of an anime. Though it wasn't to good, nor fresh at all, at least it wasn't dead blood.. He finsihed off the sack and gave a happy little sigh, smiling. 'That was delightful, thank you.. I hadn't eaten in over a week.."

A week.. How could he spend a week without eating. Deimos, not wanting to even talk to the vampire, brooded in the corner.. If Jean CLaude could survive without food for a week, could he?

Jizzy sniffled and shook her head, bringing her hands up to her face, the tap water mingling with her tears.. "I.. I'm fine.." She murmured, her fingers were simply raw, that was all.. "I.. I'm sorry.." She repeated again.. "I couldn't.. I could't even do that right.."

Chao nodded sympatheticly, not eating for a week was horrid. She'd only done it once or twice, honestly she didn't want to remember, but never intended to do it again. "No problem."
--
"Don't be so hard on yourself, accidents happen," Rico ruffled her hair gently, "it's just mass marketed cookwear anyway. Aeon's broken ten glasses at once before."

"It's not quite as apetizing as fresh blood, or magical blood, but it's food.." He said, leaning back onto the wall and licking his lips, almsot whistfully.. "I don't kill anymore, so fresh meals are a rarity..."

"Why don't you kill? DOn't you die if you don't feed?" Deimos asked, the curiosity taking the better of him. If he needed blood to live, why stop drinking..

"First, we start to lose orselves.. and go mad.. and then we die.. yes.. but I don't kill.. Because.. Mahlah.. She reminded me, she reminded all of us what it was like to be alive.. and.." He gave a sigh, this was a sort of confesiion for him. "I don't want to take something so precious.."

Deimos just gazed at him.. He didn't really understand Jean Claude's reasoning, but it sounded so deep that Deimos wanted to delve, to understand.. He didn't press further, just thinking about it.. ABout life.. He was very cruious..

Jizzy sniffled and nodded again but the feeling of worthlessness kept swelling in her chest.. She turned the water off, her hands dripping as she stood over the sink.. She wasn't in the right mind. All this stuff with Amalia had her shaken. Nothing could affect her quite like this.. "I just.. I'm a walking mistake.. My family.. they're all like.. purebreeds.. and.. I'm the runt of the litter.. I'm the one they should have drowned when they had the chance.. I'm the mistake.."

Chao listened impassively, "you lose yourself when you start to kill anyway," she commented idly, dispassionately and picked at the blankets, wings stretching out behind her, tickling Reid so that he sneezed.
--
Rico gave her a hard stare, sorely wished for something hard and blunt to smack her with.

"I'm not even going to dignify that with an answer," he stated shortly, turned, and left the room.

Jean Claude nodded slightly.. He knew it to be true, but once you became a vampire, instict was to kill, to feed, to survive no matter what..

Deimos watched.. Never having killed anyone, eh didn't really know the feeling, at all, but he looked on at the two.. "What... what does it feel like.. to kill someone?" He asked finally..

Jean Claude bristled, closing his eyes.. "I.. I can't tell you.. and I don't want you ever to find out.. Mahlah.. she wouldn't want that.."

Jizzy shook, leaning on the counter as sobs racked through her.. It was hard for her to walk, the way she was crying, ut she strode to the exit door and turned the handle.. She'd made another mistake.. She just. failed, just like Amalia said she did.. Just like Charon and Tegan had said.. She.. she hadn't seen them in so long. Did Amalia tell them she was alive? What would they think? Her body shok again at these though, but hand turned the doorknob and she left the house.

Chao shuddered deeply at the memory, the tips of her wings shaking with the movement as she sat back up and pulled Reid into her lap.

The teen nodded to Jean Claude's response, "that ignorence really is bliss."
--
Rico twitches slightly at the top of the stairs. Some part of him wanted to go after Jizzy, the other was more than fed up with her inability to see past the past and stop listening to what other people, malicious people, had fed her mind.

With a growl the horned teen tore at the air, opening a portal and slipped through.

Jean Claude leaned his head onto Chao's shoulder, sighing.. "Trust us Deimos.. It's not pleasant." He said simply..

Deimos listened.. Was it that bad? From the loook on Jean Claude's face it was the guilt that got him.. Would he feel guilt if he killed someone... someone like Aubrey or Amalia.. "What if they really deserve it? What if it's like Mother's sister..."

If Jean Claude's eyes had been open, they could have all seen the hate flash in them.. He.. didn't respond.. He wanted to kill Amalia.. Kill the person who had caused his little sister so much pain..

She tread out into the forest by thier house.. Jizzy's feet led her on, her mind still fized n Rico, on her family.. on how she'd failed them all.. Looking up, epecting to see trees, she found erself right back at the door.. I.. She needed to apologize to him, for being so.. defective.. Reopeing the door she stepped inside..

"Rico?" She called out ina shaky voice.. When no reply came her heart fell.. She felt magic in the air.. a portal.. He.. He had needed a portal to get away from her? She sniffled, but pressed on.. She needed to apologize.. for everything.

"Who are we to decide who deserves to live or die?" Chao muttered and flopped back, sharing a knowing gaze with Nima, who'd woken up.

"Sometimes... well, killing is never good, never pleasant, and it always leaves you wondering if you had to do it. If it's in defence sometimes its more bearable, justifible as it were. But honestly, if I had the choice between dealing with your Aunt and then killing her or never having any of us have to deal with her again and letting her live I'd probably choose the later," she scratched at a wing. "Unless she was going to make other people misrable for her own amusement. That's intolerably. It seems, to me, that good and evil is usually all perspective, but sometimes people are just cruel and will never change," her fingers clenched on the bed spread and she glared at the ceiling.

Reid listened to it all quietly, merely soaking it in in his half awake state.
--
Rico was sitting pensively on a beach of another world, which one he wasn't precisely sure. His legs were crossed and his shoes and socks abandoned a few feet away in the sand.

"You sound like you speak from experience, little one..." Jean Claude whispered softly to Chao as he adjusted his head o her shoulder.. He'd never mark Chao as someone who could have ever killed, but it just showed how much he knew..

Aunt.. Deimos frowned at the term.. She wasn't his aunt.. SHe was his mother's siste.r. well.. maybe that was an Aunt but.. If they were sisters why was Amalia so.. cruel.. He may tease Tal, but deep down he was family and Deimos always felt a duty to protect those close to him, especially his family, so why wasn't it the same with Amalia and Jizzy? "Why does Amalia try to make Mother so miserable? They're family.. Aren't families supposed to take care of each other?" He asked.. It bothered him incredibly..

Walking into the living room, Jizzy sensed the fresh world tear here.. Reaching out, she mumbled and touched it, ripping it open once more.. She couldn't bear having him mad at her.. It was already eating away at her.. So she stepped out onto the sand, Rico was nowhere in sight..

Taking off her shoes and socks to hold, she began to walk down the long sandy lane. The seaside sun beat down on her and she felt much to warm in the fuzzy sweater she wore.. Removing and tying it around her waist, the blue pajama tanktop she wore underneath was much cooler and now.. she kept walking..

Chao answered Jean Claude's comment with a detacted smile that was heavily tinged with self loathing.

"'Are people born wicked? Or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?'" Chao quoted then shrugged, "You're right Dei, families are supposed to take care of eachother. Some don't. I have no idea why Amalia is such a horrid person, maybe she's just naturally cruel? Maybe something happened, maybe it was encouraged...."
--
Rico was, actually, shirtless at the moment. A movement in the brushes caused him to look away from the sea.

"Sometimes.. Dei.. Families are thrust apart because of the expectations of others.. A noble family might disown a child if they marry someone of lesser rank, for example.. Sometimes.. Families just don't agree.. With Mahlah.. Her family had very high expectations.. and Mahlah didn't fill them so.." He trailed off..

"But what did they expect her to do? She says noone cna do everything, so why'd the expect her to.."

Jean Claude shrugged.. "I honestly don't know Deimos..." He said and turned his eyes onto Chao.. Myabe she could provie the boy with a better answer..

A large muzzle emerged from the bushes, followed by a large lizard like creature. It's silvery scales shimmered over its huge, rippling body. It's pearly teeth glinted, even though it's mouth was closed. They were sharp, dangerous, the tips tainted red.. A red tounge flickered out and the thing blinked its two small eyes, head turing towards Rico.. It's mouth opened, rivets of drool arching between its jaws and it let out a gutteral hiss before charging.. It was lunch time..

Maybe he doesn't want to see me.. Jizzy thought idly as she kept walking. In the distance, she heard something like a loud hiss and quickened her pace.. If there were wild animals here, she certainly didn't feel like facing them right now.

Chao merely shrugged, she didn't have any explanation either.
--
Rico blinked at the large, charing serpentine creature. The teen waws immediately on his feet and sprinting down the beach, away from the thing of many teeth.

Deimos grumbled. "Then who does knwo? Because it doesn't make any sense?!" He said, anger seeping into hsi voice.. He liked to knwo thigns and now.. he was all confused. THis wasn't the way families were supposed to work.

"Not much makes sense..It's just the way it is.."

The lizard continued chargin, its scales rippling with the movement. It snapped its jaws chashing after Rico.

Jizzy's feet were starting to ache when she looked up and saw Rico running to her.. Her heart did a sort of giddy summersault and she opened her mouth to call him name when she spotted the creature behind him. "RICO!" She called out, more worry than anything in her tone and she began to rush to him, magic shimmering around her, as it did whenever she paniced..

Chao nodded and yawned slightly, leaning her forehead against her forearm. This had all gotten too philosophical for her. It felt like the debates from old home.
--
Rico blinked when he saw Jizzy and his feet stumbled over a hole in the sand.

"But why?"

"Just.. stop asking questions. You'll learn.. You live.. you learn.. its how things work.." Jean Claude siad.. He had been starting to get a headache..

The lizard took this golden oportunity and knashed its teeth expectantly, biting down on Rico's leg. Jizzy let out a scream and she charged at the chreature. It released its prey turning it's head at the oncoming attacker and getting hit full force in the side as Jizzy flew into tehe ebast, her hands charged with magic.. The beast snarled snapping. Drool splashed over Jizzy and it burned, like a weak acid.. "Leave.. him alone..!" She shouted angrily, and sent a jolt of magic through the beast. It yelped thrashing some more, its tail whipping across Jizzy's legs as she pinned it to the ground, keeping it from its prey.

Chao smiled weakly at Dei, "don't listen to him, don't stop asking questions, it's just we just don't know the answers to these. Sometimes there's questions that don't have answers and that's the answer itself." Oh dear, philosophical babbel, she was getting tired again it seemed.
--
Rico cried out when the teeth cliced into his leg, drool slopping down the appendage messily before the creature was distracted.

The teen tried to push himself up to help but hissed lowly at the deep burning sensation that was seeping into his leg. One leg refused to support his pained body and he crashed onto the sand, furiously rubing the acidic drool with sand and looking around for something to throw at the lizard creature.

"Why don't you knwo the answers... Aren't you 900 something years old, Jean Claude?"

"Yes.. but I died at 25... Do the math boy.. I didn't live very long.."

Deimos stopped.. Over 800 years.. of death.. of having to kill.. He sat back down, done with his questioning for now.. Dead for 800 years..

The lizard snapped its head, catching part of Jizzy's arm and forcing her off. SHe lost her grip and the creature rolled on toped of her, snarling, drool spilling down onto her arms and collar.. It's clawed legs pinned down her arms, nails digging into them and she yelped, falling still as a wave of pain overtook her.

As Jizzy feel still, the creature turned it's head, looking to Rico.. Two meals, even better.. It climbed of Jizzy, going to the still moving Rico, but it let out a growl as its tail was gripped. Jizzy ahd her hands on it and she clung on to dear life. She wouldn't let it get Rico... There was as ruge of magic, a bamph and the lizard fell, having died much like the bounty hunters before..

Chao sent Jean Claude an intrigued look then burst out laughing, "oh dear gods, you're such a geezer!"
--
Rico looked up as the lizard approached, grabbing onto the nearest large shell he could see, ready to stab the things eyes out, despite the pain in his legs.

And then the lizard died, leaking brain matter and blood onto the sand and Rico let the shell fall from his fingertips and sat heavily back onto the sand, noting dully that his ankle distantly felt like it was on the wrong way...and maybe coming off.

"Jizzy?" he called after a moment of collecting his wits and began to shuffle as best he could towards the lizard.

The vampire simply laguhed, raising his hadn a flipping his hair. "Well I do believe I still look fabulous, don't you?"

"Nah... Wrinkles everywhere, old man.."

Jizzy moved to him, her legs fine, but deep gashes graced her arms. "Rico.. Are you alright?" She asked him, worry laced in her tone. She was just now beginng to notice the pain of the acid on her arms and collar, her mind being to tossed intot he struggle before..

A box with breathing holes was waiting for Deimos on top of his bed. There weren't any signs showing how it got in but it couldn't been for too long

It wasn't very big, barely enough to fit a small pair of shoes in, but whathever was inside made it shake like mad. Perhaps that's why it was firmly closed with a string...
Between the string and the top of the box there was 2 notes attached

Inside the Box

First Note
The last ingredient missing for every proper pirate: a loyal pet

This little bugger maybe stubborn and snap a couple of fingers off, but it's much more useful than a parrot or a monkey
The sand pirates use them for delivering messages, finding treasures (they like shiny stuff) and as alarms

Hope you like it

Signed,
- Waterbird's father

Second Note
Nipker's Caring Instructions:
- feed it with bugs, meat, fish and fruit. Avoid giving it sugars, bread and milk
- always keep fresh water at hand, both for drinking and bathing
- never cut tips of claws and spikes
- provide a nest at a high spot for it to sleep. Avoid drafts, damp and cold areas when chosing
- allow it access to a smooth rock for sharpening the tail blade
- avoid pulling it's wings and/or getting them thorn

Small Guide of Useful Tricks:
- apply pepper on areas you want it to avoid
- teach it to use the sandbox
- reward it with melon or other sweet fruit and squirt it with water to punish it
- put a box next to its nest for it to store its shinies and replace the valuable items found there with common items. It won't notice the difference

I'd teach your Nipker to associate names with faces if you want to use it for 'mailing' purposes. They're well known for their sounds imitations and brightness, so it shouldn't take too long

--Nevermore, mateys! - March 7th, 2006 --
Participants - Deimos, Phobos, and Lenore

Deimos sat casually in the livign room, staring at the cards before him.. He was playing solitare, a game Mother had taught him once he had seen her play. He wasn't terribly good at it.. His eybrow wings were furred in frustrationa s he glared down the cards, trying to look for proper places to put them

On his shoulder, Phobos nibbled on a silver chain he'd found earlier. Holding it in his tiny claws he chirped cheerfully. He quite liked the shiny thing.

Singing to herself and playing with the long black ribbons of a veiled object strapped to her back, Lenore wandered through the halls of HQ. Yet another day with nothing to do - how dull.

She'd been wandering all day, and was starting to get a bit lonely. Pushing open a random door, she hoped for something evil and slimy behind it to slay to keep herself occupied.

"Hey! Hi, Captain!"

The sudden and loud noise made Phobos emit a piercing chirp and stumble off of Deimos' should. Fluttering up he peered about for the source of the noise, the chain hanging around his neck. Spottign Lenore's feather's he whistled and flew over to the shiny thing.

Glad to have something to do other than play solitare, Deimos spun around quickly, getting to his feet. "Hey Len!" He said, quite cheerful now that his friend was here. He hadn't quite seen her in a while, now that he though of it.. "Been a long time, how've you been?"

Phobos flopped onto the floor under Lenores wings and began to jump, fluttering, trying to get a hold of the shiny which was Lenore's blades.

"Good!" Len chirped, looking down briefly at the odd little creature jumping at her. "Hey, little guy. You're a cutie," she added, pulling off a razor feather and watching it dull.

"Here you go. You like the shinies, dontcha? Cute little guy," She said, grinning, and laid it down on the floor in front of it. It reminded her of a dinosaur, and that alone made her like it. Looking back up at Deimos, the grin grew into a genuine smile.

"How've you been? Last time I saw you, you weren't feelin' so good..." She said, trailing off. "You look great now. Ever'thing okay again?"

Chirping extatically,. Phobos leapt onto the feather, taking it into hsi mouth and nibbling on it, as if to test it's durability. Once satistfied, he gripped it tight and fluttered onto Deimos shoulder once more.

At the question Deimos did a little half nod. "Well enough.. I've been fine, but mother.." He simply trailed off. He didn't want to really talk about it. Changing the cubject quickly he turned his face to the now cheerful Phobos.. "This is Phobos.. Phobos, this is Lenore.." He said, introducing the two. The notes had said that he could delvier messages, so eh might as well learn who everyoen was.

Looking up at the shiny girl, Phobos chirped before imitating the sound hsi master had made. "Lenore." He said, prompty recieving a pat on the ehad, which meant good. He'd get some sweet melon oce they got to home abse...

A slightly worried look crossed Len's face at the mention of Dei's mother, but hearing Phobos speak immediately distracted her.

"Hey! Cool!" She said, scooting over to the couch and plunking down. "Ouch! Oooh, stupid, I forgot-" she muttered to herself, unstrapping the veiled object and stowing it on the coffee table. Rubbing her back where it had stuck her, she looked up at Phobos in interest.

"He's awesome. Where'd you get him?"

Flopping down on the couch befores Len, Deimos eyed the long thing on the table.. WHat exactly was it... His eyes were on it for a while ebfore he decided to respond.. "He was jsut dropped off at my house one day.. It's from the same guy who helped Rex get me the Dawn.." He said, his eyes once again turning to th wrapped object.

"Lenore!" Phobos crooned again, nibbling on the tip of her festher pleasantly.. He was wodnerful as long as eh ahd soemthing shiny to bite on.. Otherwise.. welll..

"Oooh, he must be awesome. I met a guy th' other day in the maze, said his name was Bir-mmph!" Len clapped a hand to her mouth, remembering too late her promise to keep the strange man a secret.

"Er...Bir...nice! Birnice!" She said quickly, wincing inwardly at the weak save. Noticing where Dei's eyes had rested, a wicked smile grew over her face.

"Would you like to meet a friend of the family?" She asked slyly, twitching the veil a little to reveal a vertebra tip.

So Lenore had met him to.. "I think it was Birvan... WOAH!!" Deimos exclaimed, all thoughts of the mysterious man thrust from his head as macarbe fascination filled him. "Is that actualy someone?" He asked, a thrilled edge to his voice.

"Dead men tell no tales!"

Deimos chuckled... Wonderful time to rehearse those pirate phrases he'd tought Phobos..

Len cackled and ripped off the veil, revealing Nevermore in all its horrifying glory. The skull had been decorated with red spirals and spiky lines, making it look even more menacing than before.

"This," she said, hoisting the sword up, "is Nevermore. Ain't he pretty?"

Giving a giggle, she nodded in late response.

"Yeah - I didn't know you met him, too. He told me to keep him a secret. D'you think he lives around here?"

She dearly wanted to see the stranger again. Maybe Dei got to see him more often.

ing.." He muttered, eyeing the sword from the tip all the way to the handle..

"Nevermore." Phobos repeated, imitating the way Lenore had said the name of the sword..

Tearing his attention for a moment from the sword, Dieimos shrugged. "He told me too, but I don't think so.. We would've seen him before now if he did.." Fingering at his belt, he felt his claws drape acorss the dagger Lenore ahd made for him. It was impressive, but Nevermore was just aweinspiring.

"Here, you can hold it," Len said cheerfully, holding the sword out to him. The blade wavered and bent gracefully for a moment, snapping back stiffly into place as she gave it a curious look.

"It moves on its own sometimes," she explained briefly. "Dunno why."

Feeling disappointed, she sagged against the arm of the couch.

"That's too bad. He seemed like a nice guy."

Deimos took it ginergly into his fingers, his eyes scanning it in grium fascination.. "wow.." He bretahed again, rushing his fingers gently down the bones.. "Yah.. We'll probaly see him now though, if we bot have he must be staying somewhere.. or visiting a lot.." He gripped the sword, relishing the feeling of the bones beneath his fingers.

"Dead men tell no tales!

The sword wavered again in Dei's hands, almost in protest, but stilled itself again after a beat. Len grinned, looking pleased.

"See? It likes you." She said. "I hope I get to see 'im again - I liked him." She added wistfully. Glancing at Phobos again, she giggled.

"Cute little guy."

Deimos quirked a smile at the swords acceptance.. It was even enough to distract him from the whistful tone in which Lenore spoke of Birvan. "Where did you get it?" He asked..

"Make him walk the plank!" He said, spewing phrases out as it seemed to make the shiny thing giggle. He liked that noise.

A dark, troubled expression flitted over Len's face briefly, and her hands clenched on her lap.

"I... there was some trouble, a couple weeks ago. He - the guy, y'know, this guy - he came here and hurt my family. And me. Mum came for me and killed him."

Her tone was flat and a curiously blank look had settled in her eyes. She touched her side unconsciously, remembering something private.

"He's a bad guy. ...I'm gonna keep people safe with Nevermore, to make up for what he did." She said, the flatness in her voice disappating as she shook herself back into the present.

Deimos half wanted to just drop the thing from his hands as Lenore spoke.. Instead he tried to keep his cool as he placed it back onto the table... Someone.. someone ahd tried to hurt Lenore? And.. and he ahdn't known.. He hadn't helped.. He almost felt sick..

"Failure!" Phobos said, whistling the ending music for a random video game death..

"I.." What kind of captain was he? That his own crew was hurt and he did nothing..

'You're weak... Untrained..'

Erebus was right. He was weak.. All these thoughs happpened in only a matter of seconds, but Deimos made no attempt to speak again. What could he say to her? After he'd promised to defend her.. adn failed..

Shivering at the memory of screaming, Lenore shook her head violently.

"No. No! Nevermind! It's not important!" She said, her voice determined. "I'm okay, and we're safe now. There was nothin' anyone could've done - he took me to hurt Mum. And she got him back for it."

Taking Dei's hand, she smiled, the haunted look completely gone.

"He told me he hurt you, but I knew he was lying. You're stronger than he ever was. And now he's mine. I own him." She said, the smile growing a little wry. "He'll never hurt anyone again." She squeezed Dei's hand slightly.

"Ever'thing's okay."

The pressure of Lenore's long fingers on his own comforted him greatly, more than er words did.. EVen though it shocked him to ehar that this man had told Lenore that he was hurt.. "I just.. I promised I'd defend you.. I said I wouldn't lt anyone hurt you, Lenore.." He said.. He wasn't stronger.. He was weak, untrained.. He couldn't defend Aunt Chao, he couldn't defend Lenore and even though she ahdn't even arrived, he felt like he couldn't even defend his own mother from that crazed woman who was after her...

'Part of our deal was that I'd give you lessons remember...

Deimos eyes seemed to brighten at the though.. With Erebus training him.. A smirk graced his lips.. "But.. I.. you're right.." He siad finally, returning thw squeeze to her hand.. He'd became strong and he'd defend her.. "I guess I just felt bad, that I didn't know.. You're part of my crew.. I don't want you to get hurt..

Tilting her head to one side, Len regarded Dei with an obivous expression of admiration.

"I know. You're my friend, and friends worry about each other and stuff. It's okay now. Nevermore'll keep us all safe." She hesitated, looking at the sword. "Once I learn how to fence, anyway."

Deimos didn't see the look she was giving him, his gaze turned elsehwere, anywhere but straight at her face.. "You bet and once I get ood with my dagger.." He said, pulling it out and gripping it tightly.. "Nothing will hurt us.." He said, his voice much more confident than he actually felt.

"That's right. We'll get rid of anyone who tries to get us," Len said, glad they were getting away from the topic of her kidnapping.

"We'll get them first..."

Deimos nodded fervently. He would.. He'd get strong enough to fend off any opponent that came thier way.

Riley up by all this exitement, Phobos stood up on his hind legs, speading his tiny wings wide. "Avast, ye scurvy dogs!" He cried out. Yes, Deimos ahd taught him plenty of those phrases.

A bit desperate to steer clear of any more unpleasant business (though it had been she herself who'd brought it up anyway), Len grinned at Phobos just to do something.

"Smart little guy, aren't you, Phobos?" She asked him sweetly. He was too cool for words, really. Settling abck against the couch and picking at the material, she looked around the room absently.

"So, when d'you think the Dawn'll be ready to sail? The ice on the lake's melting pretty fast," she said hopefully.

Deimos nodded. "Soon, real soon.. I've been practicing most veryday so that when the ice finally melts we can sail.." A sly grin grew on hisf ace as he remebered all the nifty little secrets he'd been learning, plus the ones Birvan had shown him.. Honestly, they could have sailed now, if Deimos wasn't so scared ice, or more so, falling into the water.

"Really bad eggs!" Phobos replied to Lenore's comment. He couldn't really talk, just spew back phrases for now, but he was really good at it.

Lenore smiled wistfully, toying with her hair dreamily.

"Oh, it'll be wonderful," she breathed. "I've never been on boat before - oh, just think about it! We could go anywhere, see ever'thing all around the lake... visit the islands, even! Oh, goodness!"

She was making herself extremely excited just thinking about it. She'd finally get to meet the rest of Dei's crew, for one. Besides that, they'd finally get to pillage and raid just like real pirates!

Deimos smiled at the look on Lenore's face. "And yu should see what I found out.. The Dawn can fly... well.. hover anyways.." He said. This was a big revelation when he was shown.

Giving a sudden, delighted laugh, Len clapped her hands excitedly.

"Oh, how freaking cool! Does that mean we could, I dunno, fly into the city to raid n' stuff?" The prospect was a terribly exciting one. If they could leave HQ, who knew what they could get away with...

Deimos grinned. "If Rex helped us, I bet we could.. The Dawn can hover a bit, but with Rex's Gravity powers.." A grin spread across his features.. They could do anything they wanted.. He had thought this out..

With a sudden swell of pride, Lenore made a breeze rattle the windows inside the room on a whim. Grinning, she cocked an eyebrow at Dei.

"I'm gettin' really strong with Air, too. I could help give us a little bit of lift," She said slyly. The breeze grew stronger and unnaturally directed, blowing across the room and lifting loose items around in a mad whirlwind before settling back down, scattered around the floor.

Deimos felt the wind and looked around, watching the items fly around, admiration shining in his eyes. "Awesome.. This will help so much! My Air pwoers aren't much at all, but I've been getting much better with my fire!" He said, well, he hoped.

Puffing out her skinny chest with pleasure at Dei's response, Len nodded eagerly.

"Really? What can you do? Mum's brother - Julian, I don't think you ever met 'im - he can do fire stuff too. Probably not even half as good as you, though."

The compliment sounded a little brown-nosing, but she meant it. In her eyes, Dei could do no wrong. Anything he could do that was special had to be incredible.

Deimos smirked widely. He looked around, spottting an unlit candle on a distant table. "Watch this.. I've been practicing.." Pointing his finger at the candle a spark emerged and fire flared on the wick. Closing his finst, the fire vanished.. He was rather proud of his ability.

"Cool!"

Deeply impressed, and wanting to impress him even more, Len willed the breeze back to life. The air current picked up the candle and made it spin in midair, then snap in half with a loud crack. Pleased with the destructive force of her power, she willed the air to set the candle down gently back onto the table.

"I'm really good at breaking stuff with it," she said happily. "All I have to do is think of what I want the air to do, and it does it."

"I can.. burn thuff.. and melt things.." He said, chuckling. Watching Lenore and her abilities, he felt more motivated to practice and train. To be stronger.

"Put out that fire, Deimos!" Phobos chirped, repeating something he ead heard Jizzy shoutone day.

Snerking at Phobos, Len shook her head.

"Spoilsport," She said to the little creature jokingly.

Deimos chuckled. It felt nice to just hang out with Len, no Erebus, no nothing.. He smiled at her, just as the clock on the wall went off, indicating the time.. His face fell.. This was the time Jean Claude went out to feed and he felt bad at leaving his mother alone.. Looking back from the clock, he started to stand.. "I have to go.. But.. come to the ship tonight at.." he looked over at the clock again.. "9... I'lol show you all the cool stuff I've found..."

"Bye Bye Pretty Lenore!" Phobos piped up as they left the room, closing the door behind them. Shiny = pretty..

"Okay, then. See you later," Len said, smiling and waving goodbye. She clucked her tongue at Phobos fondly, cocking her head to one side. Charming little creature.

--Dark Waters - March 7th, 2006 --
Participants - Deimos and Lenore

The moon was high that night, shining as Deimos leant cassually upon the side of the Dawn.. He had invited Lenroe to see her, and all her new tricks.. Besides, he'd never been sailing at night beofre, he want to try now that the moon offered him such great visibility.

Sneaking out of the room had been harder than Lenore had anticipated. The family had an irking habit of staying up late, and waiting for cover of sleep was a dull thing to sit through. Flying stealthily, Lenore made her way to the lake.

"Darn it! Why couldn't they just go to bed at nine o'clock like normal people?!" She hissed to herself as she spotted the beautiful sweeping form of the sloop in the water. Landing hard and jumping up, she scampered over to Dei with an apologetic smile.

"Sorry I'm late - Ethan always falls asleep last. Took ages to sneak out," She said.

His ips quirked into a smile at the sight of her. He could relate.. Jean Claude was a hard one to get past. "That's ok, you're not that late.." He said.. He knocked his fist into the wood next to him, kncoking down the gangplank so that they could walk up it.. "Come on.. I have a lo to show you, Len.." He siad, starting up the gangplank..

Following eagerly, Len looked around as she finally got to board the ship.

"Damn," she breathed appreciatively, grinning. "This is just too cool..."

"It gets better..." He siad, smirking widely. Leading her into the captain's cabin, he hit a plank on the wall and it slid open revealing the closet full of pirate garb.. Taking his hat from the hook inside he placed it onto his head.. "Feel free to take what you like..." He said, as olong as he had his hat, it was ok to take anything else in the closet..

Len's eyes lit up with almost unnatural happiness at the sight of the clothes. Running a long-fingered hand over the different fabrics, she grinned and snatched at a ruffled white shirt.

"Oooh..."

Slipping it on with only a little difficulty, she grinned as her feathers passed through the fabric without tearing it.

"Birvan made it so I don't rip stuff anymore without meanin' to. I can wear stuff like this all the time now," she said, looking pleased to be wearing long sleeves at last. Grabbing a long black coat as well, she slipped it on and buttoned it up. Turning to Dei, she spread her arms wide to let him see the full effect.

"How do I look?"

He looked her up and down and nodded. "Great.." He said, shiftng his hat from it's position.. "There are all sorts of compartments like this around the Dawn.. I don't think I've found all of them yet.." He said, looking around the cabin, as if expecting to find more.

color=darkblue]Fumbling with the buttons on her high collar, Len wandered a little around the ship. It was wonderful - everything she'd imagined about it couldn't hold a candle to what she saw.

"Neat... does it have cannons? Or lasers? Laser-cannons?"

"It has connons, but no cannonballs.. They shoot sleep pwoeder, and itching powder, and sneezeing gas and other kinds of things.. I use the sleeping powder to sneak out of the house.." He confessed.. It was how he ahd gotten past Jean Claude. It only lasterd 15 minutes, but it was enough.

"Oooh, itching powder..."

Slightly disappointed that Dei hadn't mentioned anything possibly fatal, Lenore continued to wander around.

"Man... this is awesome. I can't wait 'til we can start raiding and stuff. I mean, we are still gonna, right?" She asked a bit anxiously. One of the only things that had made the long winter bearable was the thought of pillaging and (possibly) destroying unsuspecting towns, riding out to sea in triumph. It'd be a shame if they could only use the ship to sail around the lake and look cool.

"Of course!" He said.. "Birvan said she's not made for the ocean, but I think she could do it.. with a good crew like us, the Dawn can take us anywhere.." He said confidently.. It was his dream to sail the ocean and he wasn't going to let it be dashed by soemthing silly like his boat not made for the sea.

Running her fingers along the smooth wood of the mast, Lenore craned her head up to look around.

"It probably could. Once I get strong enough with Air stuff, maybe I could make winds or somethin' that could bring us where ever we wanted." She said wistfully. Wandering over to the side of the ship and leaning over it, she let her fingertips brush the water. The glassy surface rippled violently at her touch as a breeze breathed across the lake, making the ship rock ever so slightly.

"That'd be great.." He said, looking out onto the sea as she spoke.. It'd be the best thing if they could do it.. He let out a small sigh and looked over at Lenore.. "so.. would you like to steer her.." He asked her.. He had brought her to show her the ship, may as well teach her to drive it as well.

Lenore looked up at Deimos, startled.

"St-steer? Steer her?" She choked. A blush rose in her face, turning it a darker gray. Deimos was going to let her steer his ship?

"I-if you.... sure! I'd love to!" She paused. "Er, captain, sir. If you'd allow me."

He nodded. He trusted Lenore probably most out of all his crew. Besides, if he ever ahd to go somewhere, someone would have to know how to steer her.. Moving to the mast he tugged some ropes, letting the sails flutter down before he led Lenore to the helm.. "Go on. I can't be the onl one who knows how to steer her.." He said matter of factly, opening a panel hiden in the railing to turn on a small shiled he'd discovered the protected the bottomt of the ship from scratches and dents and whatnot..

Taking hold of the wheel as though afraid she would break it, Lenore turned it to the left carefully. She had to repress a shriek of joy as the ship moved in turn. She was doing it! She was steering!

"Oh, gods, this is so cool..." she breathed, daring to make it turn a little sharper. The ship went out further onto the lake, obeying her touch at the wheel and zigzagging across the water. "I can't believe it, I'm really doing it...!"

Deimos watched, a bit nervously, out at the water, in case of any stray bits of ice.. When none reached his eyes he began to move towards Len.. "Good!" He said.. Taking calmed steps towards the held when a slab of ice Diemos' eyes had not caught in the dark slid under the ship. The ship rocked violently, teetering as if about to capsize. Deimos lost his footing and he stumbling falling over the rail behind him into the icy waters..

Under the water he gurgled, watchignt he ship straighten itself out.. He flailed his arms, as if that would help him rise.. His cloak was soaked adding to his weight as he began to fall through the waters..

"DEIMOS!" Lenore screamed, abandoning the wheel in horror. What had she done?! She'd thrown him overboard! Without a moment's thought or hesitation, she ran across the deck and threw herself into the water. She slipped under, the icy cold numbing her horribly and knocking what little air she had out in a rush of bubbles.

Swim, you idiot! Swim!

But she didn't know how.

Thrashing desperately as she sank deeper and deeper, she unfolded her wings out of instinct and flapped upwards. The large metal wings acted like flippers, forcing her upwards. She surfaced and coughed, spitting out what felt like gallons of water.

"Deimos? DEIMOS?" She called, swimming clumsily by flapping her arms. She couldn't see him anywhere. "What've I done?"

Deimos, however, was not as lucky to have built in flippers. Instead he had very heavy claock attached to his back and virtually no knoledge of swiming. He flailed, maybe rising a few inches before being pulled down by the wight of his clothes and cloak again.. His eyes darted about the murky waters ina panic, his lungs felt liek they would burst.. Opening hsi mouth ina dumb move, a long stream of bubbled flaoted to the surface, and a large amoutn of water entered his lungs..

Len swam around calling out to Deimos. Where'd he go? What had she done? How could she face his mother if something had happened to him?

"Deimos, please, where'd you go?" She screamed, swimming further and further out. "Dei-...huh?"

She'd spotted ripples a bit further up. Bubbles were popping as they reached the surface... "Oh no! OH NO!"

He'd gone under. He'd.... drowned.

"I killed him!"

Len took a deep breath and plunged under the water, desperate. She had to find him. It was all her fault. Plummeting down far with every beat of her wings, she tried to spot him.

Feeling the pressure upon his lungs, Deimos midnwas begining to blacken..

'Use your air magic you moron!' Erebus shouted. He was too weaka dn Deimos to strong to take over as he had when Deimos had been just a toddler the demon was panicking at the prospect of death hanging over them.

Air magic.. Air magic.. Deimos eyes lulled.. how could he cast air magic when he didn't feel a smidge of air within him.. But if it could save him.. He focused and a few large bubbles formed under him... They lifted him several feet, popping in quick succession before Deimos blacked otu and the bubbles vanished entirely..

A flurry of motion and rising bubbles caught Lenore's attention. Swimming quickly towards the source, she had to keep herself from screaming (which would have been a highly stupid thing to do) at the sight of a seemingly-dead Deimos.

No, oh please, no, don't let him be dead, She thought. Swimming closer to Deimos's body (her stomach clenched at the thought), Lenore clutched what she could get at and tried to swim upwards. Deimos was dead weight in her arms - she couldn't do anything but sink.

He is NOT going to die because of me! She howled in her mind, enraged. Holding Deimos close to her, she squeezed her eyes shut and opened her mouth. Air rushed out in a torrent of bubbles, and she gagged as water rushed in to replace it. Concentrating hard on the air she'd let out, she felt a swoop of victory as the bubbles returned to her and formed a kind of float around them. As it rose swiftly to the surface, Len kept a hard grip on Deimos, not daring to look at him.

As the bubble-float brought them to the surface, she coughed and vomited out a bit of water. Kicking ferociously back towards the Black Dawn, she gave a howl of rage as she felt herself and Deimos sinking again. There was a freezing wind across the surface of the lake, making her shiver horribly.

"BRING ME BACK TO THE SHIP!" She screamed. The wind obeyed at once, tearing her out of the water with Deimos in tow and throwing them hard onto the deck.

"Ouch..." She mumbled, pushing herself up and coughing up more water. Letting go of Deimos at last, she shook him frantically.

"Dei, Dei, please, wake up. Don't be mad, it was an accident..."

First there was blackness.. Then there was though.. Deimos though how dull death seemed. There were no lights, no voices calling to him, just darkness. It was rather boring..

Then he heard mumbling, Lenore's mumbling.. Then a loiud screaming in his ear.. Erebus going on abotu how dumb he was and he could have gotten him both killed. How annoying..

Taking in a deep breath, he noticed he couldn't and he gagged and coughed, water spweing from his lungs.. Another cough and he was able to take in air into his lung, darkness still surrounding him, but breath coming in him...

A chill wind passed over the deck and he shived.. "damn it's cold.."

Lenore gave a hysterical laugh and hugged Deimos tightly, starting to cry.

"You're okay! Deimos, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to! I was so scared, I thought you died - oh, Deimos, I'm so sorry!" She squeaked, head buried in his shoulder as she hugged him. She didn't even bother to think that he might not take kindly to being hugged by a hysterical, soaking wet girl, but hey. She was simply glad he was alive to possibly be furious with her.

Deimos' first reaction was to gasp for air, her hugging squeezign the little he had out.. "Len.. *pant* Len! *pant* I'm fine!!!" He said, taking in great gasps of air.. He opened his air and looked at her.. She was soaked.. She must have jumped in after him.. "I'm fine.." He repeated. It was the only thing he could think to do while she clung to him like this..

Lenore took a couple deep breaths to calm herself and let Deimos go. Still sniffling, she brushed the sodden hair out of her eyes and wiped them roughly, embarrassed to be seen crying.

"I got so scared... I was sure you'd died." She mumbled. "Are you sure you're okay?"

She was deeply rattled from the whole incident - her captain had nearly died, and she was completely certain it had been her fault.

"I'm fine.. really.. You're alright too, right?" He said, taking his cloak from behidn him and starting to wring it out... For just having had a near death experience, he seemed pretty calm. It hadn't been the first time it had happened anyways and he'd feel much worse if it had been Lenore in his place.. He felt shame swell inside him at his show of weakness..

"I'm sorry though.. You probably think I'm the worst pirate ever now.." He said, his voice low as he scooched a bit aside and summoned a small fireball in his palm to warm them... "who ever heard of a pirate who can't swim..."

Lenore shook her head hard, scooting closer to the fire and shivering.

"Yeah , I'm okay... an' I don't think that," she said. "I can't swim either. Th' only reason I could even move in the water was 'cause of these," she added, pointing to her still-spread wings. Spitting out a bit of water, she coughed and looked out onto the serene lake with suspicion.

"Maybe once summer comes, we can learn how. Just in case that happens again."

Letting the fire off his palm it hovered between them, flickering and warming him thoroughly.. "Maybe... I have this dumb cloak though.." He said.. He had seen Erebus wings in dreams and vision and they were so much cooler than this dumb thing..

Following heer vision he looked out onto the lake and sighed.. "I.. thanks for saving me..." He said in an almost inaudible whisper.

Len glanced down at the cloak curiously.

"I always forget you can't take it off," she murmured. Holding her hands up to the fire, she shivered as the wind blew across them both with bone-chilling cold.

"Quit it," she hissed. The wind died down obediently - she was getting better at Air magic than she'd previously thought. As the wind died, she caught what Deimos had whispered. She smiled a little.

"You're welcome."

Deimos shuffled as an akward silence sell upon the ship.. What could he say to her now? He cleared his throat idly, the fire flickering and sparking before them.. "I..you were steering really well though.. I didn't see the ice that got us.." He said softly, avoiding her gaze, feelign very awkward.

Lenore smiled wider, feeling pleased.

"Oh, well... y'know. I was just trying it out..." she said, trailing off and glaring out at the lake again. A few chunks of ice floated here and there, deceptively harmless-looking.

"Stupid ice." She snapped, looking cross. "I shoulda been more careful... anyway... d'you think we should get back to shore?"

Deimos nodded softly.. He'd be in so much trouble though if he tread water into the house.. it'd simply eb proof he'd snuck out again.. "Yah.." He said, closing his fire over the fire, putting it out as he stood and moved to the helm.. The stillness of the wind was unnerving though and the ship went nowhere.. Turning to Lenore he made a weak attempt at a smile.. "Man the winds.."

'Yes, sir!"

Len jumped up and raised her hands slowly, fingers splayed out.

"Rise."

The deadened wind returned, careful and gentle as it filled the sails. Lenore looked over at Deimos and grinned.

"Ready when you are."

Gripping the helm firmly he looked otu, spotting the shore at a shore distance.. "To shore!" He cried out, truning the ship in the right direction, the bow cutting through the icy waters as he did so.. A short and dreadful though entered his mind and he shuddered as he steered..

Jean Claude would eb awake..

color=darkblue]"To shore..." Len murmured under her breath, pushing the winds into the sails. She was extremely tired - from the terrible shock and icy swim, as well as using so much magic so quickly. She could barely keep to her feet. The winds faltered a little as her eyes drooped.

"Boy, I'm tired..." she said, her voice feather light. "Wish I could sit down a second..."

The ship had nearly reached shore again when Len gave a tremendous yawn and sat down. The wind slowed to a faint breeze, and sputtered out as she curled into a ball on the deck.

" 'Kay. 'Night." She managed to mumble before falling asleep.

Deimos looked over his shoulder to see her and sighed.. She ahd reason to be exhausted.. Shifting the summoned winds slightly, he led the ship to shore. Moving to the side he lifted the gangplank up and over the side of the ship, having it land with a thump in the sand.

Moving back onto deck he took another look at the sleeping Lenore.. He rolled his eyes slightly the threaded over to her. As gently as he could (which mind you wasn't terribly gentle) he managed to scoop her up into his arms.. She just saved his life, least he could do was let her get some sleep.

Lenore's slept like the dead in Deimos's arms, only a slight twitch of her fingers indicating she was still alive. She was wholly exhausted.

"Ahem."

Standing out on the beach awaiting them, arms crossed and an unreadable look on his face, there was Julian. He glanced over their soaking wet clothes without comment, and he cocked an eyebrow.

"Eventful night, I see." He said dryly.

Deimos eyes Julain oddly.. He looked a lot like Crow with all those wierd marking, yet he'd never seen him before. "Sure, we'll go with that.." He said, walking down the gangplank and strait past Julian, now hoping to get back to HQ as soon as possible. After nearly drowning he wasn't sure he couldn't really fight anyone..

Julian matched Deimos's stride easily, grabbing him by the shoulder to stop him and taking Len out of his arms. Cradling her carefully so he wouldn't wake her, he looked down at the boy silently for a moment.

"I suppose you won't want me to tell anyone," he said, maintaining the dry tone. "I won't."

Lenore muttered something in her sleep, twisting in Julian's arms and settling down again.

A faint smile quirked Julian's lips for a second.

"You're the pirate, right?" He asked Deimos, eyeing his cloak in interest. "She talks about you all the time."

Deimos stiffened instantly as Lenore was pulled from his grasp. His claok fluttered behind him. "Never heard her talk about you. Who are you?" He said harshly, extending his arms to try and take Lenore back from this stranger.

"My name is Julian," he said. "I'm Crow's brother. We've... well, I think we've never met. If we have..." He trailed off, shaking his head. "Nevermind."

Walking back towards HQ, he didn't bother to see if Dei would follow, though he kept talking.

"She really admires you, y'know," he said, nodding down to Len.

Deimos did follow. He wanted to see Lenore go into her room with this man before he'd even consider letting her out of his sight.. "I didn't know.. Thanks for the info.." He said a bit snidely. He didn't believe it.. She might have before, but after his moment of weakness tonight she could never still admire him, not in his mind..

Julian's eyes flashed red for a moment, brilliant and plain to see, at Deimos's tone. His mouth set into a hard line as he held the door open for them to go inside.

"Listen here," he said, bending down slightly to better look at Deimos. His eyes flashed red again, longer this time. "She may worship the ground you walk on, but if you ever put her in danger like that again, you'll answer to me. You and him." His tone made it obvious that he knew Deimos wasn't the only one he was talking to.

"Em?" Len said, shifting again.

'He knows....'

Deimos raged built up even more as he trode inside, spinnign around to face Julian as soon as they were indoors. "It's not like I try to hurt her. She's part of my crew.. I try to protect her.." Anger build up inside him adn he turned his face away from Julian. "I felt so *insert word that Deimos definately shouldn't knwo at this age here* weak when I found out she was taken.. I didn't know and I couldn't do anything to help.. I don't ever want her to be in danger, you idiot, so don't threaten me like that.."

Julian eyed Deimos long and hard. He dearly wanted to mention the first time Len had been kidnapped just to needle the kid, but curiously decided against it.

"She's proved she'd do anything to keep you safe. Do her a favor. Don't get in trouble." He sighed, looking down at Len. "I'm not threatening. I'm warning. She's... she's devoted to people she loves. Alarmingly, blindly devoted."

A tired look crossed Julian's face for a moment as he looked at Dei again.

"Strange.... no one seems to get to just have themselves in their head anymore," he said, more to himself than to Dei. Shrugging, he hefted Len in his arms and continued walking.

Deimos was about to snap at Julian at his first comment. It wasn't his fault if she followed him, but then he continued and Dei began to see his point, a bit.. He grumbled.

Hearing Julians final words, Deimos gave a sigh.. "It's becuase we're in Gaia.. Mother says its the place mostly..." He said, trying to keep conversation to calm his down..

Julian laughed.

"Can't argue with that," he said lightly. His previous temper with Deimos gone, he stopped in front of the door to Len's room and glanced down at the boy.

"Well... good luck staying out of trouble, then." He said, opening the door carefully so not to disturb the sleeping girl.[

Deimos nodded. "And remeber.. You didn't see anything.." He said, palcing a clawed finger to his lips and treading off.

"Tell me where you got that sleeping powder and I may let you off..." Jean Claude spoke from the doorway as Deimos apreached.

Deimos gulped... He was in trouble now...

[ A note? ]

Buzzing throughout the hall it was a quick easy route to Deimos's room, twisting the untwistable door knob to enter. Sighing, the wasp mishap figured it was locked. Zooming back down the hall she picked up the note she left by her door, flying back to Deimos's room she took a large stick of a star, and attached the note to his door.

--Grounding of Deimos--

“I can’t believe you Dei! You know you can’t swim. You could have DIED!” Jizzy shouted at the soaking child that’d dripped into her room in the middle of the night.

“But I didn’t… so what’s the big deal..” Deimos replied.. He sorely wanted to skip the lecture and get a proper change of clothes, but with his mother in front of him and Jean Claude at his side, any chances of escape were immediately dashed.

“What’s the.. what’s the BIG DEAL?” Jizzy stared at the child.. She’d been rather on edge lately after Amalia’s last attack and this had just caused her to snap. “The big deal is that you snuck out in the middle off the night and almost got yourself killed! You should know better Dei! You know how dangerous it’s been lately..” Her tone dropped a few levels..

”No I don’t! You never tell me anything.. You just come home all beat up, or call and tell me you’re in the hospital. You can’t talk to me like that when you’re the one who’s always getting in trouble!!”

Jizzy sputtered… Deimos was right but.. but “That.. that’s besides the point.. The point is that you’re just a kid and you shouldn’t go out like that, especially without telling me..”

“Would you have let me out if I told you?”

“Of course not!”

“Which is why I didn’t tell you!”

“Well you should listen to me! I’m your mother!!”

“No, your NOT!!” Deimos shouted furiously. He was fed up with this. Why was she making such a big deal out of this.. He almost instantly regretted shouting at her though as he felt guilt course through him..

Jizzy’s thinly worn nerves snapped and tears brimmed in her eyes. Her lower lip quivered and it looked like one more word would set her off into tears.. “fine..” She said, in a trembling voice and left..

“You idiot boy!” Jean Claude hissed, grabbing Deimos by the scruff of his neck, ignoring his protests.. Shoving him into his room, Jean Claude glowered at the demon child. “Do you have any idea how worries she was?! She was sure you’d been taken!”

“ Why would anyone want to ‘take me’ ?!”

“Because of her! Both Chao and Rico have been attacked and Mahlah blames herself you know, because its all her sister’s doing.. She was sure Amalia had come for you too and she was terrified!! And then you treat her like.. like.. like…”

“But I WASN’T taken! I’m here in one piece!

Jean Claude let out a long growl.. “You just don’t GET IT, boy! That’s it! You’re grounded!”

“GROUNDED?!” Deimos’ eyes widened. “You can’t ground me!”

” I sure as hell can after what you said to Mahlah..” Jean Claude’s eyes were practically feral, exasperated by trying to get his point across to the stubborn boy. “For a month! And you have to apologize to Mahlah or it’ll sure as hell be longer!”

“You can’t do anything! I don’t have to listen to you!” Deimos shouted at the vampire. How dare he punish him? Why did he think he had that authority, but Jean Claude quickly pushed the thought from his head as the vampire scooped Deimos up by the front of his shirt, glaring at him and Deimos could say, he was honestly afraid.

“You don’t have to listen to me.. But I highly recommend you do if you wish to have your limbs intact by the time you hit puberty…” And with that he let the boy go and stormed off. Now he had a crying Mahlah to deal with as well.
