Poppy
"Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me.."

Poppy would open her eyes once the healing process had completed, the glow in her wings would slowly fade as did her energy. She hadn't been sleeping well recently, it was evidently impacting her energy all together as her semblance would usual make her tired but not quite like this. Tilting her head at Oberon, Poppy would feel a sense of nerves overcome her - this man was a businessman and a mercenary.. who knows what he knew or who he knew. It made her a little uncomfortable, she would try and see the potential good in the situation but often struggled with this. Her eyes would lock with Roqs, he would hopefully by now understand that she was a nervous individual, who just required a reassuring look from Roq to feel a little more at ease.
Poppy would breathe out deeply, she smiled to Roq and nodded at his question. "I can manage, it seems to be getting stronger and less taxing.." she would say, attempting to hide just how tired it really made her. She would do it as many times as was needed for her friends, for Roq. It got her thinking a little, as she looked to her broken wing. "I wonder if I can fix it as I keep getting stronger... one day.." she thought to herself for a brief moment.
Poppy would stand by Roq, staying silent as they made their decisions. She went a little bit red at the suggestion of them bathing together and looked away for a moment as she recovered. She would do whatever meant she got to stay with her only teammate.

  Seems as though Roq was all stitched up, literally. A magnificent power the woman had but Oberon imagined that she couldn't keep it up forever, it had to be taxing unless she had an abundant amount of aura to work with. Oberon caught the scroll before setting down his case and pulling out his own. He took down Roq's info and sent his contract via attachment and with it his contact info. Upon doing so he noticed he had another notification from his current employer. Skimming it, Oberon did not like what he was reading... "You've got to be kiddin me... Ugh, whatever. At least I've gotten my initial fee as well as my stipend." Oberon put his scroll away and walked over handing Roq's back to him. "Well kid seems my schedule is wide open now. My current employer has... expired." Oberon was just getting to used to letting out exasperated sighs, "Shame too, this one had deep pockets, and I almost could say it wasn't a chore to be around em and at least one other in his merry gang of misfits."
Oberon was ready to go, "Well, this has been fun and all but I think I'll be goin now. I'm kinda stuck in Vale for awhile until a certain someone decides to move elsewhere." that certain someone being his counterpart. He looked over them both for a moment, first his helmet facing Roq, "Hmph..." He would remember this one. Oberon then turned to the girl flustered presumably at the thought of being naked with Roq. He had to admit, "Heh... chin up girl, take pride in what you want, well in this case who you want. You two are teammates right? He'll take good care of you." she was incredibly fun to tease, she made it so easy but eventually he'd get bored of it... just not right now. He inspected her head to toe, he wasn't going to ask about her wing, it was none of his business, but it did remind him of a certain serial butcher he had the displeasure of meeting, "I wonder...." Oberon finally stopped inspecting the both of them, "What an odd pair you two... Well whatever." He began to walk away making his way to town, "I'll respond as soon as I am available. Sometimes surprises come up." He continued walking then stopped half-turning to the two, "Oh, and don't message me, or call me to just chat, I ain't one of your classmates nor am I your friend kid. Cya." he gave one final wave of dismissal and he was off.

Something about her singing was simply enchanting. Once she broke from her angelic trance she'd lock eyes with him. She was clearly nervous about Oberon. "Trust me..." Roq said confidently. He'd turned back to Oberon now.
He took back his scroll and chuckled when Oberon announced that his current employer 'expired.' "Do your employers expire often? Wait- on second thought, don't answer that!" he said.
Roq was glad that Oberon would be staying in Vale. He fully intended to meet this man again. Something about him inspired Roq. He wasn't quite sure why, but he liked the guy. At the same time, he found him dangerous. A lot wasn't known. So Poppy's nervousness was well warranted.
Oberon made his last farewell statements which turned Poppy red and then Roq himself felt his own cheeks flush a bit. Did he just imply Poppy wanted him? Lies. Nobody wanted Roq, and Roq didn't want anybody. Or so he told himself. Though, deep down he was definitely captivated by Poppy. He just wasn't sure how true these emotions were, or if it was some side effect of her semblance. Maybe it was all a lie, but what Oberon just said... Well, it confused him to say the least. "Seeya around old man! Don't go expirin!" Roq would shout as Oberon took his leave.
Roq turned back to Poppy. He could tell she was a little tired. Though she did a damn good job at hiding it. "Poppy..." he faltered. "I got to get something off my chest..." His crimson eyes would lock onto hers.

"Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me.."

Poppy would go even more pink at his comment about taking pride in what she wants, or who she wants. She would flash a quick, nervous look to Roq and clear her throat. Poppy would then give a quick smile and then nod to him, she knew deep down somewhere that he was right about Roq, he would take care of her. She would wave to Oberon as he left, "What an interesting individual.." she would say quietly so that he wouldn't hear.
Her breathing would settle over time as she regained her strength back, she would take a few small steps forward before Roq would say her name. She would turn back around to face him, her bright blue eyes locking with his - like ice and fire. Poppy would feel her nerves coming back again as she nodded to him, "Y-yes?" she would say, waiting for whatever would come next.

Her entire demeanor was opposite to his. She was kind and sweet and he was rigid and harsh. Her eyes were blue and his were a violent crimson. "Poppy..." Roq started. "We've been teammates for how long now? A year, maybe less, and I feel like I've been awful. Not just awful, god-awful. To Chase, and to Tabby, and especially to you..." he said with eyes full of gloom.
"I wanted to ask you, not only for your forgiveness, but-" Roq would look back up to her beautiful blue eyes and she'd see his pained resolve. "Let me forfeit the Captainship of our team." It was a question, but also a statement of what he wanted. "I destroy things. I don't create things. I'm not good enough." Roq said it. He finally felt like he could breathe.

"Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me.."

Poppy would put on a half smile as he spoke, she held her arm and looked to the floor, feeling a little sad about how he thought he had been awful to them all. She knew he wasn't wrong, but she also knew it wasn't him being 'awful' but more him just unsure of how to deal with his feelings at times. In all honesty, she felt the same too. Poppy was always so nervous and anxious that it must have put people off.
Poppy gave Roq a look that showed he didn't even need to ask for forgiveness, she was a little shocked to hear him want to give up captainship for the team - but she smirked a little as she suddenly wrapped her arms around his arm in a slight hug. "And here I was thinking you were going to say you were leaving Beacon.." she said as she walked away from him towards the riverbed, she turned to him and smiled - one of the most genuine, gentle smiles she had ever given. "Besides, you don't need a title for people to want to fight for you, to be with you.." she said, clearly meaning that she would follow him no matter what title he had.
Her eyes would glow brightly, she looked towards the river and felt her chest. The feeling she had was something she was not used to, her heart had a healthy beat to it and she couldn't shake the smile off of her face - it confused her. Poppy wouldn't look back at Roq, but would become a little more nervous again, a feeling she was used to as she anticipated what Roq was going to say. "I've said to much haven't I... oh my goodness, what is he going to say?"

He rarely asked for forgiveness, much less apologized. And he couldn't really read Poppy as he spoke, she always kept a gentle smile, but then she abruptly wrapped her arms around him and he tensed up. His arms in air awkwardly as she pulled him into a gentle hug. He would eventually lower his arms and accept it, but just as soon as it has started she was gone and by the river. He sort of stalled there holding the air before his arms dropped at his side. "Poppy..." was all Roq could say in response to her kind words. He felt tears welling up. He had never experienced such acceptance. His parents loved him, but they also caged him like a wild animal. They wouldn't fight for him.
Lobster tears rolled down his cheek. But this made him feel a sudden wave of anger. Anger at his own tears. He would breath in deeply for a moment and let the wave pass. And then the gentle kindness take hold again. Why did he always have to fight this rage? Everything made him mad. When he opened his eyes he could see Poppy, the gentlest soul, standing there before him. "As long as you're here, I won't ever leave." he said before thinking about the words coming out of his mouth. An immediate blush taking over his cheeks. He felt that his mask would cover most of it, but Poppy would still clearly see him go red.
"I-" Roq started, but words failed him. "Screw it, come here." he walked swiftly over to her and wrapped his arms around her, but he was also fighting intense emotions like never before and closed his eyes as he pulled her into a tight hug, probably too tight. And then he lost balance and they would both topple over and into the stream. "Opp!" Roq yelped as he pivoting to take the fall. The cold water splashed over them and Roq would start to flail to push himself and Poppy out of the water. He would gasp for air as he sat up and start to chuckle at his blunder, hoping Poppy was okay.

"Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me.."

Poppy would turn after Roq had had his moment, missing the tears however upon hearing him say he wouldn't leave as long as she stayed. She experienced another wave of confusing emotions, as she could see him going red her head would tilt in confusion. Nobody had ever loved Poppy, she didn't even know, bar Edward, what it was like to have someone want to stay just because of who she was. She almost doubted these thoughts, and a sense of worry overcame her as she began to wonder if this was a trick to trap her again, the angel had always lived in a cage.
Poppy would feel her body go rigid when Roq walked over to her at an alarming pace, she would slightly wince as she braced for something - she didn't know what however. She trusted Roq, however she had trusted before and it resulted in years of slavery and abuse. Poppy would almost go numb as she was pulled into a tight embrace, this was a completely new experience and she didn't know how to cope.
For a second the world around her stopped, the smell of Roq was comforting and the warmth of the embrace was wonderful. She closed her eyes and smiled, her arms rising up to hold him back as she would rest her head into his chest for a brief moment before the hug would become quite tight and a little uncomfortable. Poppy opened her mouth to say something and before she knew it, they would both take a topple into the water and she would let out a short yelp as she went under.
Poppy would be brought back up by Roq and swim beside him as she pulled herself out. She would shiver a bit and gather air back in her lungs as she sat up right beside him. Poppy would let out a rather loud laugh, a true laugh, like she had never done before - nobody had ever made her this happy or excited. Once she settled a bit, she would fix her hair slightly as it was now soaked and stretch her wings out, shaking the excess water off. After a few minutes of laughing, the pair would be facing the river and she would shuffle next to him, resting her head on his shoulder as she let out a sigh of relief.
"You know, I was sent to Beacon to find someone that might connect me to my past.." she said, taking a good pause to think about how to approach what she wanted to say. "But, maybe I was supposed to find a future... maybe I was supposed to find you..". She would say, feeling her face go a tad pink as she took her head off his shoulder.
Her bright blue eyes would shine as the sun began to fade for the evening. "My whole life has been spent in a cage.." she would say, looking at her arm that was now on show, covered in scars from knives, burns and all the abuse she had suffered. She would sit up a bit rigid and cough with nerves, but somehow felt like she didn't have to feel scared anymore. "With you I feel..." she paused, as words wouldn't come to her. "Free.." she would add, chuckling a little as she looked to the sky. "I-I'm sorry, not sure where all of that came from.." she would apologise to Roq. Pink cheeks appearing on her face as she would attempt to fix her hair again, the cold air didn't even phase her as she was just living in her emotions and moment with him.

Even when the laughs subsided he couldn't help but chuckle at what just happened. Not very often do you fall into a river. He would for once not tense up when she rested her head on his shoulder. Part of this moment felt so surreal. He would admire her wings when she stretched them out. She always seemed so small, but then her wingspan just made her suddenly become much larger whenever she expanded it. He didn't notice her broken wing, not like before. It was part of who she was to him. He'd never known her to be different and she was perfect as she was.
She would bring up the reason she even came to Beacon, and it was a little surprising to him. He had never really heard it, though it did make sense with what what little she had shared in the past. His crimson eyes would be wide and curious as he listened to her. He was more interested than ever before."A future..." he said with great introspection. "I have never really put much thought to the future. I guess I've always been so busy trying to run away from the present—but now—I see you." His eyes peered at her with pristine clarity. He didn't know why, but being so close to her made his vision straight. He didn't fully realize it but in that moment he knew that he'd do anything for Poppy. His resolve was set.
He would lift his arm up but then hesitate, before finally deciding to wrap it around her gently. Still very light. Part of him was just so uncertain with any touch. He was rough and he knew it. Most things he touched were broken. A smile took over his face when he realized she was already broken. Maybe he didn't need to worry about it with her.
He would sit and listen to her whole story. Being put in a cage, her scars—Anger welled up again at the sight. An overwhelming sense of protection took over. His breathing quickened. His eyes locked onto the scars on her arm, but more so onto the vision of the figure that would do her harm. He would start to work on his breathing techniques his mother had taught him to cool down. Poppy would easily notice this but he'd calm down faster with her by his side. If he ever met the people who did her harm, he would destroy them.
When she said she felt free with him he couldn't help but nod. He felt the same. For the first time in his life he felt like he didn't want to run away from everything, but rather he wanted to protect something. It scared him because he didn't know how to protect. All he ever knew was destruction. Roq looked down at his hands and promised himself that'd he'd find a way to protect her, at all costs. "As long as I'm alive-" He'd stop himself there. There was so much he wanted to say, but fear of what he would say overtook him. He was too rash, and quick to speak usually. He didn't want to ruin the moment.
When she finally sat up and realized all that she had said he couldn't help but smile brightly at her. Then he realized she couldn't even see his face, which felt wrong in the moment. He unlatched the mask and let it fall into his lap and flashed his grin at her in full view.
"Poppy. I'm not as good with words as you are, but I just want you to know I feel the same. He locked eyes with her for a moment. "Free.
"Let's call it a day?" He stood up and offered her a hand. A smile more genuine than she'd ever seen on his face. There was so much he wanted to say, but he needed to give it time. He didn't know how to process all of the emotions coursing through his veins, but he knew he would be beside Poppy until his last breath.

"Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me.."

Poppy watched as Roq let his mask fall, she loved his smile and would brightly smile back. Butterflies would soon arrive in her stomach and she felt her heart racing like before, it was a relief and exciting to hear he felt a similar way. She knew that somehow, this was the first time either of them had emotions like this - it was new, and they would have to explore it carefully, even though part of her just wanted to explore more of this feeling.
She nodded and took his hand to pull herself up, her eyes locked on his face. She almost looked surprised to see his smile, realizing it was a sight she honestly hadn't seen. Once she was stood up, without thinking she would rest her head on his chest and place her arms gently around him for a soft embrace. Poppy closed her eyes, listening to his heart beat, hoping it wasn't all a fluke and he would hug her back, "Just a little longer...".
Once the moment had passed, she would step back a little and put on that usual nervous look. "Oh!" she exclaimed as she would then float over to her bag a few feet away with her wings. She would rummage around in it for a few seconds, presenting a small box to Roq as she walked closer again. "I uh, I got these for you, since I know how much you love strawberries.." she would say, opening the box to show freshly picked strawberries. Poppy would chuckle sheepishly, "Well, only if you want them.." she said, once again her shy nature getting the better of her. There was still so much of her life she wanted to share, and so much of his that she was desperate to know, but Poppy knew that these life experiences would be shared when the time was right.
There was a certain new glimmer in her eyes as she looked at Roq, she needed this time, she needed him.

He wasn't iused to so much affection. He did love it when she looked at him, though he did find it a little hard to maintain eye contact suddenly. Just something about it felt so intimate. He would hesitate for a moment, but eventually hug her back. Carefully. Restraining his strength with slow and methodical movements. He may not be a huge hunk of a man, but he was much stronger than he appeared. His strong heart pounded against his chest, knowing that she was listening only made it race more. Eventually it would settle down as he would rest his head on top of hers. She smelled good, he wasn't sure how to describe it, but he loved it. It made him feel at peace.
The moment would pass and she would grab her things. Leaving his standing there scratching his head. Obviously flustered and unsure what to do. But he would put on a smile and kick the dirt with his hands in his robe's pockets as they began back. She would present a box to him of: "Strawberries?! But how-" He looked shocked. Unsure of how she knew, he never paid attention to details like that."You- You're so kind! He immediately opened it and shoved an entire strawberry into his mouth, leaves and all, and in less than three seconds it was gone.
"What are your favorite snacks?" he asked, as they walked back towards Beacon. "Do you like strawberries too?" He was like an excited child with his favorite food in hand. He would offer her as many as she wanted. Something about this moment made it unforgettable. He just knew they'd never split as a team. Not the two of them at least. Not unless he was dead, though that was morbid and he shoved that thought out of mind by shoving another two delicious and juicy strawberries into his mouth at the same time. "Mhmm!"

Poppy
"Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me.."

Poppy would chuckle as he clearly got excited by the sight of the strawberries, she was just glad to make him smile. She felt like before today, Roq had often found it difficult to fight off negative emotions, this was almost like meeting a new version of him, she would remember it for the rest of her life. She would stroll beside him, with her hands behind her back as they walked back to the school ever so slowly. Poppy would clearly think on his question, she had never really experienced many foods until she came to Beacon. Edward used to have her on a strict diet with her training, however something came to mind.
"Melon, I think.." she would say, recalling a time when she went to the market with the family that she was a slave for in her youth. Poppy would be starved for long periods of time, however the children of the family would sneak her food and she often enjoyed some sweet melon. She would take a strawberry from the box and pick the stem off it, a sweet smile on her face. "These are pretty delicious too, I made sure to only get the best ones!" she said, her mind attempting to take her to a dark place however Poppy would move it to the back of her mind.
"What else.. do you like?" she would ask, "Music?" she would add, almost prompting an answer but not meaning to. Poppy would keep the slow pace up, almost wanting this time to never end. Her mind had never felt so clear, she would look up to the sky and breathe deeply, wondering if she would finally experience this life that Edward had fought for her to have. Even just a full nights sleep would be new for her. Poppy would very often disappear through the night to train or just sit with her thoughts, her nightmares tormented her and she could never win the fight against them.
"I feel like I have so many questions.. I-I'm sorry if I ask so many.." she would apologise, knowing how curiosity can often bite people in the backside. "I think the headmaster put us on a team for a reason you know, I would like to thank him someday.." she said, as she would nudge into him a little, playfully. There were so many things she would also like to say to him, Poppy had a feeling towards him, like they were connected somehow, she only had to see their matching wings to know so. This was a thought that she had chased all of her life, however right now it didn't really seem to matter to her, Roq did.

xx ❶ x ᴡᴇᴀᴘᴏɴ xxxxx ❷ x ᴘʀᴏғɪʟᴇ xxxxx ❸ x ᴅάɴɢᴇяᴏᴜs __________________________________________________________________________________________ Rσϙ Oυɾɾσƙ nodded in agreement that melon was a great pick. "Can't go wrong there. Watermelon especially!" He was now wanting watermelon, but he was getting full from the strawberries which were practically all gone."You- You're so kind! He immediately opened it and shoved an entire strawberry into his mouth, leaves and all, and in less than three seconds it was gone.
He wasn't yet able tp pick up on every little piece of body language from her, but he could tell that she was purposefully keeping a slow pace back which he liked. He would match her pace just so happy to be with someone who wanted to actually get to know him as much as he wanted to get to know her.
"To be honest, my parents never listened to music, they were the stoic warrior types. Except this one tune my mother used to hum to ne when I was a little lad." he said suddenly looking into the clouds trying to remember the tune. "I don't think I can do it justice, but I might have to say my favorite music is-" He stopped mid sentence. He couldn't let himself say what he wanted. Instead he changed the subject. "What about you? Music, food, hobbies? What does Miss Poppy enjoy?" He hoped she'd just go along and drop the first question. "I want to know you better as well, we are teammates afterall. I do also wonder if the headmaster had some idea that we might just be a good fit? Though, I'll admit. I didn't see it at first. Can he really be that good with understanding people? I guess you don't get that position easily..." He obviously hoped with enough rambling the subject would be solidly changed.

Poppy would nod in agreement about the watermelon comment, a brighter smile on her face as he mentioned how kind she was. The truth was, Poppy couldn't help it with Roq. She had never felt a connection like this to someone, her whole life she was unable to be like this with someone and not through her own choice. Now that she could choose, she would choose to show Roq a world of kindness and stand by his side as much as possible.
Poppy appreciated being told about Roq's past, his parents not listening to music however one specific song that his mother would hum, "That's sweet that you remember.." she would say as he continued but stopped himself from sharing his favourite music, she was a little bit gutted he didn't continue but wouldn't pry. A wave of nerves would then take over Poppy slightly, she wasn't used to being asked about herself and honestly, she hadn't had a lot of time to figure out everything she loved since being granted her freedom.
"Me? Oh.. I.. she would trail off, thinking about an answer. "I've always wanted to visit a beach" she would start with, "I enjoy training, ice cream and I like open spaces to practice my flying.." she added, feeling like she shared too much. Poppy would open her mouth to apologize, but then remembered who she was with, "You know, through my whole life I hated singing and my voice.." she would say, "I think I'm starting to enjoy it now.." she would flash a quick look at Roq, clearly a bit nervous. Poppy had always been forced to use her voice against her will, with Roq it was different, she wanted to help him.
"I find it difficult to understand the headmaster's motives as well.." she said, her voice trailing off at the end as she became deep in thought for a brief moment. "Do you have a connection to the headmaster?" she asked, as they walked a bit closer as the sun had almost fully gone down. Poppy's hand would brush against Roq's, she would gasp a little with nerves, "Sorry - I wasn't trying to-" she would become overly nervous, unsure of what to say or do.

It was hard to take his eyes off of her. Yet whenever they made eye contact it was just so intense he had to look away after a brief moment. Which was strange as that was not something he generally had issues with. He had stared down many street hooligans.
When she stumbled to provide information about herself he could not tell if it was because she didn't have an answer or if she was just awkward. But he didn't care. She was just so sweet about it. But he did need more information. "Training. Ice Cream. Flying. he repeated her answers to remember what she liked. "Those are all things you can do in one day!" But they were also simple things. Not that there was anything wrong with that, but it made him realize she had been more locked up then even he was.
His eyes lit up when she mentioned singing.
"Your voice is like..." he struggled to find words. "Like sunlight on my skin. Or a cool blast of fresh air. I could probably listen to it forever." Was that too much? He blushed a little, feeling embarrassed. But it was how he felt. Maybe she needed the encouragement. He had goosebumps form on his arms suddenly feeling chilled. The sunlight was nearly gone but they were also now approaching the gate. Her hand would brush against his which would make him go a little rigid. She gasped and tried to explain it away but her voice trailed off. He would suddenly stop in the grass clearing and just look at her. He didn't know why, but he felt something needed to be said.
"Poppy." he would reach his left hand out to grab her hand. If she let him she'd feel his hands were both warm and soft, though the skin was tight with goosebumps from the evening chill. He did have some rugged callouses on his palm. "I'm like... I don't know. I just really like you... He wasn't even sure what he wanted to say here. He gulped. "I am happy to just be around you." Deep down he was scared though. Scared to hurt her. Scared to be hurt by her. Scared of the new feelings he had. But he felt that this was meant to be. Words would not suffice to get this point across, so he settled for a simple holding of her hand. His thumb brushing the top of her hand softly.
