Wash had never actually been to Canada. It was cool, but not uncomfortable, and the scarf and coat getup finally felt practical, especially after months of slogging around in a rainforest feeling like a damp rag. It would almost be refreshing, if it weren't of course a S-Class mission whose purpose was to rescue hapless civilians.

He hoped he'd have time to grab a souvenir.

And then they were all herded outside into the rain around some picnic tables, like a company luncheon going very, very badly, or perhaps a funeral. Most of the information he gleaned was from the text message debriefing -

-Neutralize hostiles, find and rescue civilians-

Which seemed, all in all, pretty standard. He decided, against all logic, to check in with Allan before heading out, who simply checked his runics while making some odd cheerful remark or another. He also stuffed Wash's pockets with flavored bread sticks and some kind of weird juice, which made it feel less like a mission and more like his first day of preschool.

Those feels, however, quickly faded as he stepped through the portal from a rather orderly base to a derelict, dystopian landscape. The ruins of a fair-sized city was barely visible through a suffocating haze of fog. And just beyond the concrete -

Strange, green vines.

The infected were about as scary as a typical non-28 Days Later horror flick - impossibly stupid and slow and easily avoided. Shadowlings formed slowly in wisps in the ever thickening fog, and it wasn't long before Wash summoned his weapon.

He wandered for what seemed like hours, wondering how anything living could have survived this, when suddenly -

He found a pair of red rimmed glasses not far from a small, huddled figure.

Carlos was swept into the crowd. "Oh hello! Opps ahhahahaha." he giggled as he spun around and around.

He didn't walk he just floated letting the crowd of creeple do the work around him. A booklet was shoved into his paws and words were tossed his way.

He honestly didn't understand what the fuss was about. Humans dying? didn't that just mean more ghosts? what was death anyways. As a spirit born a spirit dying a spirit, a creature of vapor, Carlos just didn't understand the need.

But they wanted help and Carlos would help.

Carlos didn't read the pamphlet immediately until he was smacked on the head. "oooooowwwwwweeee! That was mean!" he pouted and read the pamphlet.

Oh that looked easy.

Carlos looked at the passport he got making sure he had one. and then wondered over to the mini pet. "Hello friend!" he licked the minipet. Wait... it talked? "Ok!" he grinned wider and then wandered through the portal and through the fog.

It seemed like he always being dragged into one thing or another. Although, Doyle mused as he lifted the pamphlet and pretended to study it, usually it was for things he actually had a handle on pronouncing. He resisted an urge to try MRTHATSFH again, knowing the sounds wouldn't work anywhere near the way probably intended, and resolved to call it Mr. That Fish. In his head, at least. He doubted the ones in charge of the Fish would like it much.

As he shuffled over towards the portals with all the other 'volunteers', the shadow man crumpled the pamphlet up and shoved it into the pocket of his coat for possible later perusal. Probably not, though. The instructions had been ridiculously easy to remember, and he'd only pretended to read it at all because he'd seen the whacks on the head those who didn't had received.

One by one the line moved forward, and finally here he was. He glanced at the house elf again as he approached, and apparently that was enough prompting for an enthusiastic "Saving a Human is such a great honour! They are magnificent beings! Well, mostly. Some. That's really what counts right?"

"Ahh, well at least they're trying." He guessed, anyway. Although dimly aware that it was possible he'd been a human once, the idea of it was a hazy thing and still seemed terribly unlikely when he thought about it. He'd always been what he was now, and so what could he possibly know about humans that would be of any help here? His mouth opened to question- maybe there was getting out of this, after all- but then a shove from behind sent him through the portal.

The world on the other side was grey. Glowing red eyes scanned the foggy surroundings while he reached up to make sure his hat hadn't been too disturbed by the sudden movement, and then he began to walk. Hundreds of shadowlings that hadn't taken form yet, human-shaped things that he had to squint and then turn away from- Was there really anything to save out here?

He was just considering turning back away from the thickening fog when he saw her. He moved forward to crouch beside her, considering, and determined that for all the blood, she was just asleep. Well then. Maybe this wasn't so hard after all. "That's step one down, then. Let's you and me see if we can't get through the others."

Here she was minding her own business as she tried to find a new tea set when the screaming elf made her turn to see what all the fuss about. End of the Humans? End of the World? What was he talking about? Still, Kaguya listened long enough for someone to hand her a pamphlet which she turned over to look at. How to save your Human? Interesting, as far as she knew she didn't own a Human? Or maybe she did and she didn't know about it? Narrowing her eyes at the disappearing figure of the one who had handed it over to her, Kagya opened it and read inside.

She wasn't really into the whole hugging human kind of thing. Still at this point she was a little intrigued, though skeptical of whether or not it was really the end of the world or not. The idea of getting a passport to go into the Human world though did have quite the appeal for her, so Kaguya got in line. The whole thing did look a little odd, usually monsters and such didn't get into such a hissy fit over a couple of Humans dying. That's when she began to take it a little more seriously and sought out the house elf. She nodded at him, he was a little over excited for her.

Kaguya blinked a few times as she surveyed the area she'd newly entered through the portal. From what she could remmeber of stories and such, the Human world didn't look so... Bland? It certainly was odd, she was actually starting to believe that there may be something very wrong here. She could barely look at any of the weird looking Human things so Kaguya walked on in the fog. Soo though, Kaguya spots something on the ground and goes over to inspect it.

It's a human. A real live sleeping human.

Milo didn't know when he had been volunteered for MRTHATSFH, as he'd never heard of the thing before. He hadn't any idea why the humans had needed rescuing, but they had to be rescued. Milo approached the grey robed reaper to receive an instruction booklet, opening it to read through the first few pages.

So they had to hug the humans and carry them to the exit? That sounded simple enough. Which meant something was bound to go wrong. It wasn't as if he could make a run for it now, so he picked up his Volunteer passport and headed toward the portals.

As they were led to the portals, Milo looked to the strange minipet. His ears twitched at the mental words it spoke. A small opening? For what?

He steps through the portal to witness the damage done in the human world. Were there any humans left? He would have to go and find out. He walks for hours, fur keeping him warm, until he comes across a human, fast asleep and rather ragged. He decided he liked this one and picked it up under an arm.

Like any good student, Bopha wanted to join the rescue effort to save the humans. After all, she used to be a human! And without humans, there wouldn't be ghosts, and while she doubted there were humans that could become Ahps in this part of the world like her, future ghosts were pretty important enough to save.

When she glances through the handbook held up in a coil of intestine that she'd slipped out of her belly, she momentarily wonders how she's supposed to hug her human when all she really had (when not in her handy humanoid student form) were some goopy, prehensile organs. She'll figure something out when she gets there. She'd gone so long without proper limbs she'd almost forgotten how to use them, oops.

She floats up to the portal and doesn't speak to anyone, but the house elf tries to talk to her anyway about how great it is to save humans and all that. Yeah, sure, humans can be okay. She doesn't remember anything about her human life. The Ahp just nods awkwardly at him and floats up to the portal, tucking the book under an arm and getting in.

To make things go faster, she floats over the broken remains of Delta and through the fog, looking for any sign of life, stopping at an elderly man laying in the rubble and clutching a cane to his chest. Hovering near to him, she watches curiously for a few moments to make sure he's breathing, lightly prodding at his neck for a pulse. He's scrawny, but despite that he's still kind of bulky and not an easy task for a ghost under 5 feet tall to carry.

With nothing else coming to mind, she awkwardly ties a length of intestine around his ankles and begins to drag him in the general direction of the portal. Not the most elegant solution, but she had to improvise somehow and wasn't as physically strong as her classmates.

Nobody's entirely sure how The Embalmer is still a student, and everyone's afraid to ask. He was probably too busy doing his spooky reaper things to turn in his credits or something. He growls menacingly as he reads the handbook on the proper care and rescue of humans, apparently taking it in as he throws the book over his shoulder when done (with comedic screaming of an imp being struck with said book in the background at the reader's discretion).

He looks at the weird minipet and grunts in acknowledgement of it, nodding once as he conjures his folding steel chair and flings himself into the portal like he's going to wrestle whatever's on the other side of it. While the narrator is pretty sure that The Embalmer can't solve this problem with wrestling, that doesn't mean he's not gonna try.

Predictably, when he gets to Delta, all there is for him to wrestle is fog, at least for a few plodding hours before spying a flash of orange amid the grey -- a large man, not unlike himself, with a godly physique. He's older, of course, probably retirement age, but The Embalmer would have found him to be a worthy adversary in the ring in his prime. He effortlessly hefts the human over his shoulder like a hideously-dressed sack of potatoes and starts heading back to the portal.

Volunteering was usually nowhere near any part of his daily to-do list, but somehow there he was, sitting among the body of students that were assembled for some volunteer rescue mission. Right that instant he found the elf that was speaking more interesting than the news said elf was sharing, which was...probably a little sad. The idea that the human race would be going extinct was probably supposed to be more worrisome and ought to have demanded more of his attention, but Kane couldn't really get himself to care too much. Still, before he knew it in his hands was a curious pamphlet with the name they'd given this mission of theirs, and he opened it out of mild curiosity.

It was simple enough and told him about these...humans. Being a first year he knew very, very little about them and, despite himself, the idea of possibly meeting one was worth a little more attention. He flipped through the pamphlet quickly and put to memory the simple instructions. Sans the hugging, because he wasn't going to be hugging anything, if he could help it.

Before long they were ushered to a clearing where numerous portals were set up, and he fell in line. Eventually he found he had a passport in his hand and was being led toward a portal. He was unsurprisingly indifferent to the whole thing save for the small inkling or curiosity in actually meeting a human...one he tucked away as he approached a doorway where a werewolf stood, cloaked in red. Kane blinked up at her, contemplating whether or not he should say something. There werewolf beat him to it, though.

She crosses her arms, scowling at the fog. "We do not t͏r̕us̵ţ this," she growled. Her growl reverberated with the sound of more than one being. "There is something about the fog that sets my teeth on edge. Keep your Fear close and strike swiftly."

He barely had a chance to nod his head (admittedly a bit dumbly) before he felt someone shove him forward and through the portal.

As soon as he faceplanted on the other side he grumbled a swear word or two before he got up and dusted himself off. There was something really off about the place once he finally looked around, taking in the sights of...well, nothing, really. At least nothing worth noticing. At first. He started walking a bit, the pavement cool beneath his feet. The fog was moderately thick which made things a bit hard to see, but he could manage. What he couldn't handle was the smell...

Kane had his nose wrinkled the whole time and soon sighted what seemed to be the cause of it: some human-shaped thing in the distance, lurching about like the blackness of its body like tar and inside was a trapped human. He curled his lip and moved on, sighting other shadowlings along the way as well. It was mostly empty though, and for quite a while he found no signs of life outside of those two things. Were they even considered "life"?

He let the thought pass and went along slowly, pondering the reason behind why the fog was suddenly getting thicker to the point where he really couldn't see well anymore. Still he wandered, following his nose (particularly away from the stench) until finally he caught another scent. Something vague yet different from what he'd scented so far, and soon enough he found a human.

Lying by a car, asleep. He quirked a brow.

"That's a human?" he snorted, crossing his arms. "I don't see what's so great about them," he started to grumble, but knew that he was there for a reason other than to make a judgement about said human. So without letting another thought draw his attention away from the task at hand, he quickly assessed the human he found and then the situation so he could plan out the next part of the plan: how to get said human to a portal safely.

Ugh.

Pelagion was less than enthusiastic about being roped into this whole... rescue... thing. Not that he had any problems with rescues, even if they were of humans, but it just seemed like a whole lot of effort. It would have been more effort to refuse the offer to volunteer. He flipped through the guidebook and shrugged, slipping it into his coat. It was pretty straightforward, he could handle that. He just wished people would shut up about how important this was. He got it, they were motivating, but he didn't care about that stupid moralistic crap. Rescuing was a good thing, he couldn't get out of it, he might as well do it, let him do it and get it over with... thats what he thought.

He waited his turn for the portal, summoning his bound weapon to him just for the hell of it, and glanced down at the... minipet? Hey, Pel liked fluffy minipets. He was tempted to pick it up, but he figured now was not the time...

Ok, so not a minipet. Whatever, still fluffy and cute and full of advice. And it had sweet taste in clothes. Pelagion could appreciate that.

Finally, it was his turn to go, and he walked through...

Oh... So this was the human world. Somehow, he had been expecting... more. His family was very into the whole... balance between worlds thing, and so he had always heard things about the human world from time to time, but this was...

Well, okay, it was kind of dull and blah. Really blah. Foggy, nasty, blah. Pelagion tucked his coat tighter around him and set out to find some human to help. Why not, right? Except, he could barely even see where his feet were going, or the gleam off his weapon.

It was so... blah. Droll. Annoying. Pelagion grumbled things to this effect. And then his foot hit something – a prone shape. A human? Pelagion knelt and nudged him – yes, this was a male human, they looked just like reapers, no big deal.

Well, he found a human. The human was out cold. He prodded them again. Now what?
PostPosted: Thu Oct 01, 2015 9:44 pm

Vashti hadn't been planning on emergency volunteering today, but regardless, she found herself roped into it anyway. The nearby reaper shoved a pamphlet at her, urging her to read it and to volunteer to help save the human world. She skimmed over it; each page was simply covered in bold lettering: find a human, hug it, carry it toward the exit.... you did it? Yay? Seemed like a waste of pamphlet, it could've been scrawled on a small leaflet. She was about ready to just toss it and tell him no, but she was swiftly swept up in the crowd as they handed out temporary passports and directed everyone to the portals. She turned to the reaper on her way out, but he simply made a sarcastic quip about her abilities and she was through the portal before she could formulate her indignant rebuttal.

Well, now she was here, in... wherever this place was. The place looked to be in shambles with weird vehicles scattered about in the fog. There were a number of weird humanoid shapes moving in the distance, but every time she tried to get a better look, her head began to pound and she was forced to look away. Those... must not be the humans they were sent to rescue. She took to her brother's preferred mode of travel: lifting herself onto her tail and slithering on the remaining length. It was easier to get around obstacles by carving her way through instead of picking her way around on foot. It wasn't long before the fog began to thicken into soupy tendrils, and she had to make her way around by feel until her tail bumped something unexpectedly soft.

She had to get back down on her feet to get a closer look, and her hands touched something startlingly warm. She struggled to haul it up for examination: a human female clad in white, totally unconscious.

Imbere knew leaving her dorm room today would just add more stress to her life. Adjusting her scarf due to the slight cold that settled under her skin, the water nix slid two fingers through her lilac hair, scratching idly at a gill. It was bad enough that she was pulled into volunteering-- Now, she actually had to work and possibly move around. Lucretia was no where to be found, and any other monster she knew had mysteriously dropped off the face of the planet. She'd have to do this solo... something she was, unfortunately, used to doing. Watching the animated house elf with a sort of dull amusement, Imbere took the book that was handed to her, leafing through the pages before closing it. She didn't need to read this... So she thought. Some volunteer thumped her head, and Imbere made an indignant groan. So much for skipping.

...Had a child written this? Imbere wasn't hugging anyone, but she'd be fine with dragging. That'd be enough. Barely listening to the elf speak, disinterested, the teen glanced around before her eyes settled on the grey reaper. "If you can save a Human with that amount of Fear, then I'm the reincarnation of the Lord of the Underworld." His addition made Imbere's temper flare. "Whatever you say, bucko," The octopus said with slight anger, rolling her eyes and stepping into the portal carefully. The minute she was outside, she realized the entire fog was overwhelmingly blinding. As she wandered through, her foot hit something. She merely wrinkled her nose and tried to step over it, only to see it was something way bigger than she thought it was. She stepped right on the plushy surface, pulling her leg off of it the moment she realized what it was-- A human.

Well, 1/2 mission accomplished, she guessed.

A large yawn was let out, sharp canine teeth glinting before the mouth closed. A thin hand moved up, pulling a vivid red scarf over half of their own face pale skinned face. Red eyes almost as vibrant as their scarf began to skim the crowed that began to gather. Getting more nervous with each new person, monster, or thing that joined in. A long silver-white kitsune tail twitched. “W-why? H-how… was I p-pulled into this?” their voice meekly spoke.

Hands were pulled up again, this time fidgeting with one another as long buckled sleeves slid down the figures arms. Arctic kitsune ears flattened against their white hair, catching the glint of light on three earrings pierced in the left one and a signature skull pinned on the right ear.

Haze Vix was as skittish as ever, his body fidgeting as his tail occasionally hit against himself or the ground. “S-o…. So many people all in one place~” His voice becoming fluid for a moment, reminding himself that he wasn’t the only one there. The young kitsune’s ears pointed towards a voice, speaking of catastrophe and calamity. “Isn’t knowing there is an end fun though?” his voice spoke fluently again, though quiet enough to seem as if he was just talking to himself. Regardless if anyone had heard him all of their attention were directed towards booklets with dummy labeling plastered on the front. “R-reading?” his voice caught onto his tongue again. Haze didn’t particularly like reading, even if he was quite literate. And so the white haired male attempted to tuck it away in the many compartments of his straight jacket without a second glance; but he was soon stopped with a quick swipe to the back of his head.

Looking over his shoulder he almost bared his fangs as his gaze seemed to appear fiercer in that moment before wimping out again. Without so much of another word he looked at the pamphlet, seeing how it was remedial enough for even his irrational side to understand what it was saying. His tail moved, the strands of fur on the tip turning into something like a were-hand before it grabbed onto the pamphlet. Allowing for his arms to flop down to his side as if he had no strength left in them after holding them up for only a minute or two. Letting out a heavy breath the sight of portals began to cause Haze to fidget again. Resting back against his tail as it created some sort of kickstand for him (like a Kangaroo!), he waited for most people to shuffle forward into lines for their passport before he moved for his.
His eyes rested upon a small minipet that looked particularly odd especially in the clothing it had on. Haze’s head cocked, hearing a voice that wasn’t familiar to his own in his head. Had another one surfaced without him knowing? Flattening and twisting his ears he only caught half of what the voice said before his irrationality began to stir. “Lets just get on with it and have some fun~” Haze said, his voice dripping with an eerie consistency again.

It only took moments before Haze walked into the portal, instantly feeling surrounded and pressured by fog. It was almost suffocating if Haze wasn’t used to this kind of heavy feeling already. He blinked his eyes a few times, tucking his chin into his scarf once more as he took in everything he saw. The kitsune was very observant when he wasn’t busy being batshit crazy. Everything that was new to him peaked his curiosity, but his secluded nature got the best of him. Telling him to stay away. His feet slowly move forward, hitting the cool ground as he wore no shoes. They would just slow him down anyway. Dragging his tail against the floor he looked around him again “So must destruction~ So little time to take it all in~ Don’t you find this exciting?” Haze spoke again, but this time with no one around but half formed shadowlings he really did seem like he was talking to himself. Half the time the little kitsune seemed to pick up his step as he get closer than comfortable to some of the shadow like things before nervously wandering back away. As if he couldn’t make up his mind.

After a good long while Haze recognized something out of the ordinary, if there even was anything ordinary to him in this world. A sleeping human was sprawled out on the ground, his eyes immediately catching onto something “What pretty hair you have~” he would say, crouching down as he reached out his hands towards Sereva…

Reluctantly, Horace responded to the call. He was a little anxious, a little not ready to see any of the hunters he knew. Perhaps he could curtail any interactions, stick to the sidelines, do his job and leave. They received no briefing beyond the texted out mission summary and Horace frowned. Despite the map, it was a little too blind for him.

Caelius, of course, ignored him. The death assistant, though... (Horace never could remember his name and of course the SPECTRE watch didn't necessarily work on Death division). The assistant waved him off too, handing Horace a watch for double watches. He put it on, used to mapping out areas. Then he was pushed through the portal, grumbling.

Immediately, he brought up the map on his watch. That had one been a skyscraper, that - a library. It was an utter wasteland. "Great, vines. Didn't we have this s**t before?" Horace headed out into the fog.

How Nii got roped in to this mess she didn't know. And why the whole thing was called MRTHATSFH, a word no one could pronounce, she didn't get either. Especially as it was actually suppose to be spelled with an "E" in the beginning. Well, either way her she was waiting for it to start.

A tiny could be seen holding a giant megaphone that seemed more intent in chewing his head off. "This is worldwide catastrophe! Humans everywhere will become extinct! Halloween will cease to exist! Stop the end of the world now!"

"Great, what have I managed to get myself into?", she asked herself in low voice. Before she could continue a good looking reaper in grey passed by handing her a pamphlet on how to save her human. The pamphlet wasn't very big and she really didn't see any point in reading it, but she did anyway as she didn't want to be scolded later.

After reading through the pamphlet she turned her head forward again. Nii could see some portals ahead with several portal keepers guarding them.

"All right, everyone make nice, even lines, and pick up your volunteer passports." The (house) gnome was currently perched right on top of the fountain as they spoke. "They will allow you temporary access into the Human world without dissipating entirely! Don't forget that most Humans cannot see you, but if they do, stand very still and pretend you are a piece of furniture, we are here to save them, not kill them even more. If all Humans die, then our world will be destroyed. Think of the scarelings!"

Nii got in line for the portal that was guarded by the nice looking reaper she saw before. He looks at her sceptically before announcing "If you can save a Human with that amount of Fear, then I'm the reincarnation of the Lord of the Underworld." He pauses. "That was a joke. You know, because you can't."

"What a dork", Nii thinks to herself before making her way through the portal.

Everything is a mess on the other side. The ground is littered with debris, but no matter how hard she look she can't seem to find any humans. Although it might just be the weird foggy feeling that is in the air.

After looking for a long while she finally find a human being. The person is just laying on the ground and when Nii gets closer to examine she realize that the person is sound asleep.
