Scarlett closed her eyes and allowed herself to sink lower and lower into the water until it came just below her nose. With her ears below the water, everything became silent, and the world washed away. It was in these rare moments that Scarlett found peace, and she savored it while it lasted. After a moment, she moved to pull her hair back into a ponytail, opening her eyes, and was startled as she found Vandal sitting across the small pool of water, staring at her. "The hell?! Get outta here!" Scarlett threw her towel at the zoroark, which he caught and stood. "Sorry, I wanted to tell you I was here, but I didn't want to interrupt." He shrugged, indifferent to Scarlett's embarrassment. "Plus, I didn't peg you as one to feel embarrassed about your body." He flashed a wolfish grin and Scarlett scowled. "I'm not, but ya're a pokemon.""All the more reason you shouldn't mind.""Well I do mind, thank ya very much." Vandal snickered and dropped Scarlett's towel back on her bag. "Ifn ya feel like playin' human, why daen't ya go make yerself useful, take my bag, and win me a gym battle?" Scarlett suggested, pulling out her change of clothes and letting Pearl out of her pokeball. "It's a fire type gym, and ya have Pearl, so even you can't mess this up." Vandal gasped dramatically. Vandal muttered to himself as he walked through the pokemon center and across to the gym, glancing to Pearl. She certainly looked tough, and against a fire type gym, he supposed this should be a cinch, but he couldn't help feeling worried. "You ready for this kid?" He asked, glancing down at Pearl, who puffed herself up proudly. "Mm... S'what I thought, but you know, I always try to be prepared." He handed her some rare candies with a smile and a finger to his lips. She had to be close to evolving, so three would do the trick. Considering Scarlett had nine saved up in her bag, he hopes she wouldn't miss them. Sure enough, as soon as Pearl ate the candies, she evolved, activating her megastone in the process. "Here, take this too. I think she's been saving it for ya." Vandal handed the TM earthquake over as well to help Pearl learn the ground type move now that she was large enough. With preparations settled, Vandal opened the gym doors, getting himself and Pearl blasted with hot air. "Don't tell the captain about anythin' we just did, 'kay?" Pearl's eyes gleamed as she nodded. She was just happy to have her new form, and into the sauna they went to fight Flannery.

Vandal breathed a sigh of relief. Thank Arceus he'd won that, who knows how pissed Scarlett would have been otherwise. He wasn't sure if it was because he didn't cut it as a trainer, or if Scarlett had overestimated her team, but the battle hadn't gone nearly as smoothly as he'd expected. One would think taking a water type against a fire type gym would be easy, but it seemed Flannery had been prepared exactly for that with sunny weather, light screens, and solarbeams. Even Luna had gone down, and she was arguably Scarlett's strongest pokemon. Speaking of which, Vandal needed to get her healed at the pokemon center. Flannery, while smart, was also quite obviously inexperienced with playing her part as a gym leader, and was more than willing to give Vandal Scarlett's badge even though he hadn't really proved to be a worthy trainer, at least not in his opinion. She was a nice girl though, and took the defeat quite well, and after pocketing her badge and TM, Vandal left for the pokemon center, hoping to get Luna healed before Scarlett decided to get out of the hot springs.

Speak of the devil... Vandal grimaced internally as Scarlett stepped back down the steps from the entrance to the hot spring and into the pokemon center lobby. The moment her eyes laid on Pearl, she lit up. "Pearl! Ya evolved! Damn, an' I missed it too...." She sighed, her excitement quickly turning to disappointment and then turning to Vandal as a scapegoat. "You. Tell me the details. How did it happen? Mid battle? Must've been glorious..." Scarlett seemed lost in her own daydream, but still waiting for his answer, so Vandal supposed he should humor his captain rather than tell the truth. "Yeah, it was somethin' to watch her go from a little wartortle to full mega blastoise at once. After that she basically mopped the floor with those fire types. I can see now why you like demolishing gyms." Vandal gave a lazy half smile. It wasn't entirely a lie. He had seen her evolve straight to a mega form, and she had done a fair amount of great battling. "Ahh... Oh well. I'm proud of ya lass. Ya've done well." Scarlett praised, patting the mega blastoise on the cheek before returning her to her pokeball. "Where's my praise? I got you the badge didn't I?" Scarlett scoffed. "I appreciate ya handlin' that far me so I could relax, but t'wasn't a big achievement on your part, so ya'll have ta excuse me far not kissin' yer feet." Vandal was tempted to tell her that the battle was more difficult than she believed, but he didn't want to appear incompetent. Unfortunately, that just meant keeping quiet for now. Scarlett dug around in her bag to check her rewards, a shiny new badge and a TM overheat, though she also noticed that she was short a sitrus berry and three rare candies. "Excuse me sir... Your pokemon is all healed and fighting fit!" Nurse Joy handed Vandal Luna's moon ball and bowed. "We hope to see you again!" Vandal glanced to Scarlett and gave an uneasy smile as she stared down at him disapprovingly. "We'll talk about this later." She insisted, taking Luna's ball and putting it back in her back before returning Vandal to his ball and calling her ride charizard. She had already found her egg in the hot springs, and with the battle here finished, she needed to move on.

The city was decked out from top to bottom with effigies of an ancient lizard like Pokemon bursting forth from the volcano that loomed over their heads billowing black and gray smock into the air. At street level, Ohmarow could still feel the gentle breeze that up above was strong enough to push the soot north out over the ocean and away from the city. "I wonder what the parties all about?" Ayami remarked examining a poster stapled to the Pokemon Centers front. Ohmarow in the meantime was watching the smoke flow from the mouth of the volcano in an endless stream. He imagined the heat there had to be intense. This was not prime territory for his Steel types. The place would be crawling with Fire-type Pokemon for sure.
"Ohmarow, come look at this." Ayami called breaking his attention from the smoke. "There's a tournament!" Ohmarow blinked and for an instant thought, he'd seen the faint glimmer of some small flash of white light within the smoke. Was he seeing things too now or was there something else going on~ "Yeah, coming," He remarked breaking his attention away to look at the poster himself. It was a black silhouette of the volcano and the lizard Pokemon spitting fire into the sky on a red background with white words written in bold down the volcano's length.

"Ok so who ever win the tournament wins the right to face this Primal Groudon, that's the picture I suppose huh," Ayami said stretching her back by bending backward. "Suppose so. Guess I need to get my A-team then huh." Even if this whole thing was a waste of time, it would be good battle experience for his team.
"So, got a battle strategy?" Ohmarow had switched his entire team around. Bringing with him only his most powerful of Pokemon, save Klefki who he intended to field test. "Yeah, to crush the competition." He'd heard they were a powerful breed of steel types. But seeing was believing. In its first match, it was able to take down two opponents with ease. It might take it a while to get prepared but if it wasn't dealt with quickly the match would drag on indefinitely, and not in the other guys favor either. "Well that's one victory." Ayami remarked from the sidelines looking a little impressed with the Fairy-Steel type herself. "Yeah but I need to eliminate as much of my competition as I can before dusk." Ayami pulled her jaw back in an expression he couldn't put to words. "What?' Ayami giggled nodding to another trainer looking for a foe of his own. Iv just never seen you so serious before."
