It was an excruciatingly long conversation with Juliean that Lafayette would’ve very much have preferred to avoid. It took him three tries just to call the man (he was so use to him appearing out of nowhere to inform him of whatever nonsense he had to do) and once he’d finally gotten ahold of him, the man had the audacity to just… make it difficult.
Eventually, the blonde sorted out what he was supposed to be doing. Juliean wanted him to go collecting samples or some nonsense in certain cities. Cities that happened to range across the various regions. Which was groan worthy on its own but something that he didn’t have control over. Making note of the places, he promptly hung up on his employer before the man could descend into any further condescending and vulgar word pieces. Luckily, he had a pokemon suited for getting him around and maybe he owed her a little time out. Retrieving his team from the nurse, he headed outside and pulled Dova’s ball from his belt. He let loose the Noivern who promptly cooed and nuzzled into his face happily, nearly knocking the blonde over. He huffed a bit, shoving her away and giving a bit of a sly smile.
"Hey there Dova." He gave her a gentle scratch under the chin, watching as her back leg twitched in tune with the scratch. Silly dragon. He reached into his bag and gave her a little snack, which she gobbled up excitedly. While she addressed her gains, Lafayette maneuvered and gave her a pat before climbing up onto her back, something he hadn’t really done in quite a while. Immediately she jumped, ears wiggling in excitement. Oh boy! They were going flying? It’d been such a long time since she’d gotten to fly!
"A’igh’ girl, let’s give it ah fair go." He remarked. The last time he’d tried flying on Dova, it hadn’t exactly gone so well. She was a bit of a yutz and the concept of ‘personal space’ to any degree was ultimately foreign to her. She seemed excited though, wiggling underneath her trainer before crouching low to the ground, bursting into an open sprint. Soon she was jumping and flapping like mad, nearly colliding into a tree before finally catching the burst of air she needed to properly propel herself up and into the skies. Once it was certain they weren’t going to die, Lafayette gently jerked the Noivern’s head in the direction they needed to head. First stop was Fuschia City.

Alex Cross Water Pokemon Trainer
Alex didn't need to wait for too long as Lt. Surge had heard that he had another challenger. His pokemon were fully healed and ready to battle at full strength. The gym leader entered the arena from the other end across from Alex."Another trainer, looking to learn a hard lesson about how powerful electric types are."Lt. Surge said with an over confident look on his face, though after finally taking a look at his opponent, he was familiar to him."Oh, what do we have here? A trainer from this very city. I'd heard that you had started your adventure, figured you'd show up eventually."The leader said with a bit of a grin. Alex couldn't help, but chuckle as he figured the guy would at least know that much. "Yeah, it's been awhile since I was back here, but I think we have some unfinished business. I will show you that electric types just can't compare to water type." Of course, the two of them liked the opposite kind of pokemon, it made sense that they'd want to prove which was stronger."Still haven't given up, well then, lets cut to the chase. I'll show you first hand. I can't hold back, not against you, Alex."Lt. Surge said, at least remembering Alex's name despite having only a little contact. "I was hoping to hear that, it wouldn't be worth it to beat you if you held back."
They both sent out their first pokemon, Lt. Surge sent out his Pikachu and Alex sent out Umbreon. The battle eventually went to Pikachu as the pokemon was just too strong to handle. Next Alex sent out Marshtomp who easily finished of Pikachu with a Mud Bomb. The second pokemon out for the gym leader was his Voltorb. Alex wore the electric type down, but switched to his secret weapon, the Legendary, Cresselia. The gym leader wasn't deterred however as he kept up the offense. The Psychic type didn't show any hesitation in taking out the Voltorb and leaving Lt. Surge with only his Raichu. Cresselia took quite a bit of damage from Raichu, but using that to their advantage, the Legendary used Lunar Dance. Marshtomp was sent back out, due to the psychic move, the water type was back to full health. The gym leader didn't give up as he used Double Team to perfection. Marshtomp's Mud Bomb's kept being avoided by the electric type. The match came down to the wire, but eventually, one final Mud Bomb ended things. Alex had managed to pull out the win. It wasn't with only water types like he hoped, but he had learned a few things on his travels which helped in the electric type gym battle.

Surge brought his hand across his chin, looking a bit thoughtful as he recalled his final, fainted pokemon. Finally, he let out a laugh. "Not sure you made your point there, kid!" he guffawed, "You only used one water pokemon, and it was part ground!" He held up one brawny arm and placed his other hand on his bicep. "I think I'll stick to my electric types!" He dropped his hands down, and placed them on his hips. "But I gotta admit, you got guts, Alex! Guts, and something else, to get a legendary like yours. Here--" He walked over, pulling out the badge and a TM, holding them each between his fingers as he offered them to the trainer. "You've certainly earned this, it seems."

Alex Cross Water Pokemon Trainer
The battle turned out to be close, but with one final attack, Alex and his pokemon were able to pull it off. He smiled a bit toward Marshtomp as he was a big reason for the victory. "Great job, Marshtomp." His pokemon looked back toward his trainer, happy to have been told he did a good job. The shiny made his way back over toward Alex, looking tired from the tough battle. Alex turned his attention toward Lt. Surge while crouching to see his pokemon. Eevee took this chance to climb back up to her perch on Alex's shoulder. The gym leader was right, he really didn't prove that water pokemon were better. This however might have been the cause of not wanting to hold back or maybe he just forgot. "I think you're right about that, but perhaps I wanted you to see how I've changed." He said with a bit of a chuckle, but Eevee didn't believe for a second. The small normal type reached up and pushed his cheek with her paw.["You totally forgot, didn't you?"]She said, before sighing at knowing that he got caught up in the flow of the battle. "Okay, maybe I forgot, but either way, that was before my adventure and having pokemon of my own. I found out that I can form a bond with all different kinds of pokemon. It's not just about proving water pokemon are the best anymore. I really hope you stick with your electric types, they are truly strong." Alex said with a bit of a smirk, before returning Marshtomp to his pokeball. As Lt. Surge neared, he got back up to his feet and took the items he was offered. "Thanks, I'm actually helping Cresselia learn about how pokemon can become stronger by forming a partnership with a trainer. This was her first time battling as well, I'm glad it was against such a tough opponent."

With the battle done, Alex exited the gym and headed for the pokemon center. His pokemon had done a great job and deserved a long rest and time to recover. They really had been pushed to the limits, but Alex wouldn't do something like that if the pokemon wasn't willing to. The bond he had with his pokemon was always the most important thing to him. It had been a long time coming, but he had finally managed his third badge in Kanto. The thought of getting Fly was really exciting as well. With a fast flying type like Skarmory, it was interesting to think of where they could go now. This would also be helpful if Alex ever wanted to come back to Vermillion City. This was something that he really hadn't thought about until he recieved the Hidden Machine. His knowledge of the City helped him as he made it to the pokemon center and stepped inside.

As soon as he entered, Alex walked up to the front counter. Just like always, he was greeted by Nurse Joy and Chansey. After explaining the situation, the water pokemon trainer would have his pokemon fully healed shortly. Alex found himself a comfortable couch to sit on as he waited. Eevee curled up on the couch next to him as she really wasn't too worried about things and decided to let her trainer decide on what to do next. He had found his badge case again and was looking at all six badges that he had won, three in Kanto and three in Johto. There wasn't a commitment to collecting all eight in either region or at least that's how it seemed. "Three in each, is there any method to my madness?" He spoke to himself, but also to Eevee since she did know him best. The small normal type couldn't help, but snicker at the comment as it did seem weird to have three in two regions without collecting them all. Alex continued to ponder the thought. In the end, there was only one idea that came to mind, do them both at the same time. Teaching Skarmory Fly and pulling together the strongest team possible. That was the only way. "Alright then, looks like you're back to battling for us, Eevee. We'll test Skarmory with flying back to Johto." Maybe it wasn't the best plan, but it was a plan as he opened his bag up and added, but also moved some active pokemon back to his bag. Umbreon, Croconaw, and Marshtomp were replaced by, Crawdaunt, Eevee, and Druddigon. Sure, he wouldn't have as many water types, but it would still be a powerful team.
Now that all that was over and he got his healed pokemon back, he was ready to continue as he headed back out of the pokemon center. The water pokemon trainer knew exactly where to go in Vermillion City to let out his Skarmory. Alex had gone to the port and managed to find a quiet and secluded dock area. "This should do." Alex said as he found the HM for Fly and got Skarmory's pokeball from his belt.

Alex let Skarmory out of her pokeball, happy to get the chance to see the flying and steel type again. He looked toward his pokemon with a grin on his face as he spoke. "It's good to see you again, I have some good news." The water pokemon trainer had taken off his bag and set it on the ground prior to letting Skarmory out. He crouched down and found where he kept his TM's and HM's and took out the newly acquired Fly HM. Skarmory was always pleased to be outside and used the chance to stretch out her green wings as her attention was on her trainer. The pokemon was curious as to what Alex had meant and even more so when he had the item in hand. Alex stood back up straight and grinned about before following up his words earlier. "We got the move Fly, it's time to give you the chance to truly become a flying pokemon." He was clearly excited and Skarmory also seemed to show that she was happy with this news. The thought of flying anywhere would always intrigue a bird type pokemon. Though, she was more worried about if she'd actually be any good at becoming more airborne.["Thank you, for your kind words... b-but I don't think I'd be the greatest at flying."]Alex wasn't too surprised by what he imagined Skarmory had said. She was always this modest, so it wasn't really a big deal to him. "Don't worry, Skarmory, there is always time ti improve no matter the case. I'm still not a perfect trainer, but I'm always trying my best, for everyone. You'll never know until you try the move for yourself." The water pokemon trainer smiled again, glad that his pokemon always kept to their own personalities. "Trust me." Despite not really thinking she'd be the best at flying, the last thing Alex said, gave her a little more confidence as she nodded her head to learn the move. He grinned a bit and carefully gave the pokemon a slight hug, before teaching Skarmory the new HM. "I think it'll be fun, but we'll need to think of something for you." Alex said as he glanced toward Eevee, knowing the pokemon hated being in a pokeball.

It wasn't a surprise that Eevee had also been wondering how they'd fly. She definitely didn't want to spend a single second in a pokeball. There would be no fun in that. Alex thought about the idea of the small normal type just holding on, but that just didn't seem safe. A few ideas went through his mind, but eventually he came upon the only solution. "I got it." He said with a bit of a grin, while nodding his head. "Just climb into the backpack and I'll keep the top open so you can look out." Eevee blinked a few times at such a simple idea and looked like she was thinking of how to say no to it. Despite her best efforts, the small normal type just sighed and nodded weakly. Alex on the other hand was pleased that he had finally stumped Eevee with one of his ideas. "Yes, I knew I'd be able to make you agree. Now then." He turned his attention to Skarmory and nodded. "I think we should take a test flight." The shiny flying pokemon was glad that she could be of help to her trainer. She smiled and spread her green wings, clearly happy to get the chance.["I think that's a good idea, I'll try to do my best."]Skarmory spoke, before retracting her wings and waiting for Alex to get prepared for their first attempt.
Used 2 Rare Candies on Crawdaunt! Crawdaunt Grew to Level 25! Used 9 Rare Candies on Skarmory! Skarmory Grew to Level 26!
Out of Ball: Eevee, Skarmory OOC: Ouch, the site I used for sprites is not working. Hopefully it comes back or I'll need to find others. lol Also, since I'm using Skarmory full time as my flyer, I need to boost that level with rare candies. They were far too easy to get in the old guild. Maybe a couple on Crawdaunt too.

The idea of a test flight seemed pretty interesting, but he figured that it would be better if it actually helped them get the next badge. "I think it would be best if we headed for Celadon City. Perhaps we can do another gym battle. Maybe after a little more training, though, I dunno." Alex said with a weak laugh as Eevee rolled her eyes. The normal type didn't mind the idea, but her trainer didn't seem to know what he wanted at the moment. Either way, Eevee climbed back up to Alex's shoulder.["Lets just see how we manage this flying business."]Alex smiled a bit at Eevee's words and unzipped his bag just enough for Eevee to climb inside and peek her head out. The small pokemon climbed inside and made herself comfortable, before poking her head out. This actually wasn't so bad. Alex glanced back toward his pokemon and chuckled a bit. "You're small size really does help here." Alex spoke with a bit of a snicker, before moving next to Skarmory. "I'll just climb on and when you're ready, we'll give this a try." The water type trainer said with a bit of a nod. Skarmory nodded her head, before lowering herself to make it easier for her trainer to climb on her back. Alex did just that as he moved onto the steel birds back. He made himself comfortable and held on tightly to the pokemon's neck. Alex was able to hold on, and with his pokemon being steel type, it didn't seem to bother her at all. "Whenever you're ready, use Fly." He spoke, while looking up the map on his pokegear. Skarmory flapped her wings a few times and hovered off the ground a few feet. After a moment to settle into the unusual situation, The shiny pokemon began to fly up into the air, slowly at first, until she got used to things. Eventually she got used to flying with the added weight and just like Skarmory were known for, she took off at a high rate of speed. Heading for Celadon City.

There was no use in waiting nor in keeping the Gym Leader waiting for her arrival. Misa had been training a lot for this moment and there was absolutely nothing that would stop her now! Thus, from the entrance of the city, Misa made her way to the Electric Gym within her sights.

Misa entered the doors of the Gym but a thought had crossed her mind. The girl had yet to switch out her team to make way for the ones that would battle the Gym Leader! Golbat didn’t need to switch out for Pidgeotto since they shared a common weakness in the Gym. There was no need to put Pikachu on the team either since it wouldn’t do much help with this gym. As much as it was an Electric type Pokemon, the girl didn’t want to use Pikachu like that. The mouse needed more training till it faced another Gym. For now Misa would change the Nidorans and Charmander out of the team for the three Ground types she trained. [Nidoran [F], Nidoran [M], and Charmander were Replaced with Graveler, Sandslash, and Dugtrio] {2/10=Leafstone}

It was certainly different from her experience in the Cerulean Gym. That Gym had a pool and all she had to be worried about is slipping on some water. This time, the Vermillion City Gym was booby trapped with electrical traps. She had to be careful, navigate through the entire Gym, and communicate with those inside in order to get to the Gym Leader. It took her a little while to get to him but the blonde Gym Leader was there and waiting for her. Misa may have struggled through the traps but she got to her target. ”I’m ready for you Lt. Surge!” {3/10=Leafstone}

Lt. Surge was waiting for his challenger this time. He'd gotten a heads up of her approach from one of his trainees, and stood there, tossing a pokeball in hand. He snatched it out of the air as Misa arrived and issued her challenge, grinning. "Ha! We'll see, missy! My pokemon have been through the same training I have-- we're ready to face any opponent!" he boasted good naturedly. "Let's show her, Pikachu!" Tossing the pokebally up into the air again, higher this time, it snapped open, releasing the electric mouse before Surge caught it again. The pokemon appeared, shaking its head, then raised its little fists, electricity already sparking around it.

The girl smiled as she faced her opponent. This was going to be a close battle, there was no doubt in her mind. Even with all of her Pokemon she might not do very well. No! She had to do for herself and for her Pokemon or else all that training was going to go to waste. ”Come out Graveler! Our battle starts here Lt. Surge!” Misa sent out her Graveler, already facing the small electric Pokemon. All of the Graveler’s hands were locked into tight fists as the battle was ready to begin!
