.a face long forgotten. ...(grencia appears)...
The bitter chill came as a surprise to her and with a disgruntled snort she shifted her weight and turned her head towards the source of the wind. For days now the slopes had been increasingly hostile and even she, with a thick winter coat, struggled to remain warm against the unforgiving winds as they tore mercilessly against her flesh.
She gave a slight shiver, deeply uncomfortable, she very nearly relented and chose to return home to the teepee where some form of shelter was required. However, her stubborn resolve steeled her on and the desire to uphold her duties fed the fire that somehow, kept her warm despite the given weather.
Foundered, really didn't cut it.
Baltic? Nope, still no good.
Her ears swivelled round as she picked up a familiar sound in the distance. She had been expecting it for the simple reason that at this time of day the individuals in question proceeded down the slopes to the forests and thus she knew that all was in check with them but they were not what concerned her - rather, it was the unfamiliar sounds that would peak her interest.
Unsurprisingly, the mountains were relatively silent though. Completely void of all life, it seemed that many had moved down the slopes for the winter to avoid the harsh conditions and on some occasions, the mare often felt as though it was completely pointless to be here - still, it was good to remain vigilant and most of all cautious.
...She would kill for something to eat right now though!

"So, this is the infamous land in which he has fled to." Pursing his lips, the stallion turned his glowing eyes upon the Kawani lands. Perched atop the slopes with his winged fledged and ready, he had only paused for the briefest of instances to take a brief overview of his surroundings. Much to his surprise he had discovered that it was much greener and cooler here than it was in land.
He gave a snort. Despite the snow beginning to creep along the rocky mountainside, he failed to see any signs of life at all. This made his mission difficult, in order to locate the soquili and complete his objective he would first need to make sure that there were soquili in existance.
"Well?" He turned his gaze towards the smudge of black in the distance, tumbling uncomfortably along the snowy outcrops in an attempt to descend the slopes without causing injury to itself. It was his 'ground cover' so to speak, it was also, once the familiar of his target but had long since been abandonned - it had been sheer luck that the stallion had found the small bear, and even greater luck that he had taken the familiar of a traitor under his wing.
Giving a small nod, he seemed satisfied with the bear's progress and with a heave and a 'wumph' of his wings he launched himself into the air once more. Gliding along the somewhat turbulent wind currents at a reasonably relaxed pace, he would only descend when his companion gave the signal...

It came in a rather unexpected way, she was certain she had been hearing things at the time but now she was positive that she was not, she was definately able to hear a snort from somewhere near by. Her ears twitched and swivelled accordingly in an attempt to locate it but much to her displeasure, the shifting winds made this ever more difficult.
Sniff
There it was again...
Sniff, sniff.
Was someone crying? She raised a brow and with a soft whicker turned her head towards the sound, whapping her tail against her flank gently to regain some feeling within her limbs. Now this sound was most definately unfamiliar to her, she'd never heard such a thing before on the slopes and only knew that weeping often meant that a little foal was lost.
And so, she waited for the winds to settle until at last she was able to locate the whimpering. It wasn't even that far away!
Appalled by her inability to locate something at such close quarters the mare gave a soft whicker and proceeded forward, anticipating that she would discover a small child hidden amongst the rocks but much to her surprise she found...
"A bear?" She voiced her own thoughts, unable to refrain from sounding incredulous as she watched the weeping bear who had taken to huddling in the rocks to protect itself from the cold. Either that, or it was scared, lost and alone - she knew how that felt.
"Hey now." Whispering softly she approached the fluffy creature, extending her muzzle to breathe warm air across the delicate fur of the individual in question, who soon gave another sniff and a small squeak of pleasure. "You really shouldn't b out in this weather, little one." She pointed out, releasing a chuckle as it sat up to stare at her.
But within moments, it had released a rather loud wail!

He couldn't miss it. The wail echoed across the entire mountain and reached his ears within seconds. He hadn't expect to be so successful in his search on the first day within these lands but he gave a small smile of satisfaction as he began to descend, circling above his bear as he took in the Soquili below but...
His target was not meant to be red!
He furrowed a brow, it seemed the bear (as young as it was) had simply cried out the moment it was confronted by the stranger regardless of whether or not the soquili posed a risk. By the spirits, he had explicitly said that the silly creature should cry out when he saw his old master! And yet...
The longer he circled above the head of the fiery red Soquili, the more it seemed more familiar. The long flowing main, the swirls upon the coat and the shape of that perfectly arched neck.
"...Yei?" He breathed uncertainly, hesitating in one of those rare moments in life when he was unsure of whether or not he should make his presence known.
Should he?
He faltered again, his expression contorting in to one of confusion before it returned to the familiar look of determination. A stranger, Yei, or not...it mattered little, they may have information on the whereabouts of his target and thus he would land.
Silently.
In fact, the bear was making such a racket that he landed without being detected by the fiery mare who seemed to be pulling faces and gurgling in an attempt to make the fluffy animal relax, which it did, the moment it saw him and looked directly at him.
No sooner had he looked in the stallion's direction that the female also looked round and the stallion felt an overwhelming weight press down upon his shoulders as memories, guilt and remorse flooded into the forefront of his mind.
She was alive...!

A stallion. A stallion almost the same colour as her - a wind no less. That distaste clambered into the forefront of her mind and she couldn't help but allow the grimace to remain obvious on her youthful face. She had completely disregarded his almost horrified expression having put that down to the mere thought of a 'lesser' soquili being near his pet but still he was a new face, on her land and needed to be vetted.
"Evening." She offered at last, flicking her gaze towards his wings briefly before returning them to his refined features. If anything, he reminded her of something but she truly couldn't put her hoof on who, perhaps he was a similar colour to her father or another male she knew.
...Did she know anymore orangey/red males?
A few moments of thought and she honestly couldn't say, it must have been her father.
"Can I help you?"

It was so long ago... All his composure, his sense of purpose left him in the instant that she had turned a now steely and defiant gaze upon him. He remembered her, the gentle laugh, the tender touch...the demure mare who had made it her duty to help all those of the herd who were in need regardless of who they were, what they were or how they treated her after she had aided them.
Yei Umeko...
So many years ago, years he hadn't forgotten and yet in the years that had passed he had come to accept that he would never see her again. His herd had long since believed her dead, taken by the spirits in return for the safety of those she had saved.
"Yei..." He croaked, clearing his throat as images of her parents flashed in to his mind. The broken and defeated father who had lost the only foal he had sired, the filly he had been so proud of. She had been the most desirable female in the herd, she was said to have had great prospect and yet, in one tragic event she had been 'killed'.
His brow furrowed as he fought to control the urge for his face to contort into one between guilt and utter joy. He had never been close to her, in fact he'd never had the time or deemed it the right time to approach her when they were younger. Part way through pride and another through fear that he would be rejected by the mare. Granted he had wings, but even a wind soquili could deem something out of his league even when the rest of his kind viewed those without the feathers to be lesser.
Yei.
He had heard the news from those who had survived the event. Everyone except one mare, his mare had returned...come back with tales of bravery and the ultimate sacrifice. Still in shock, it had taken them many days to finally explain that during a fierce storm upon the slopes, Yei had taken it upon herself to direct them home. Unfortunately though, when testing the ground on one occasion, it had given way and she had plummeted to her death - the one time she had needed wings.
...He hadn't been there and all this time he had believed that if he had, she would have survived. Why was he not surprised to see her still standing? The spirits must have loved her, treasured her in every way if she was still able to walk, talk and see.
It was hard not to miss that scar though, hidden just below her breast.
"Empy, this is not the one I sought." He murmured softly, shaking his head as he observed the bear that was now padding towards him joyously but the stallion had once again turned his gaze towards the mare who was looking incredibly confused, even her eyes showed no form of recognition.
Surely she would recognise him?!

How did he know her name?
Shifting uncomfortably she swung round to face him properly and gave a shake of her mane. Against the cold sun, the strands seemed to glow viciously, a living flame in their own right but still a hinderance to her sight on occasions. It seemed that from the moment that this being had landed before her, there had been an inexplicable amount of tension between them and it was not what she would have described as hostility.
Pursing her lips, she narrowed her eyes suspiciously. Failing to recognise the stallion at all despite his obviously very unique appearance she could only take him at face value and that, was a threat. Not even Paramekia, with all his methods of manipulation and all his links had known her name before she had introduced herself.
...Still, 'Empy' seemed to appreciate his company and her core warmed slightly as the bear snuggled up to the stallions surprisingly fluffy hooves. In fact, when she had looked at him for a longer period of time she became aware that he had a very thick coat, almost as if he lived on the mountain slopes.
...Had she seen him before? It wasn't like her to forget a name.
"I um," She cleared her throat, equally uncomfortable as she attempted to figure out a way to deal with the current situation. This was not something she was used to and in a way, it scared her.
"You -" She tensed visibly as a colder bite of wind nipped at the tips of her ears and she turned her gaze towards the peaks, her brow furrowing further as the clouds began to darken.
Not good.
"The weather is turning," Nodding towards his familiar briefly she then motioned with her hoof towards a slightly lower outcropping quite a distance away. Granted, it would start to rain before they reached there but they would miss the worst if they moved now and sought out shelter immediately.
"Come with me." She ordered in a matter-of-fact tone, giving a snort as she began to paw her way down the slopes in a reasonably well practiced manner and she was pleased to hear a small 'sniff' as the bear was pushed after her and the stallion seemed to follow.

Even her demeanor was different. Again, guilt plagued him as he obediently slipped after the mare who now held herself as a guardian of the herd would have done. Her entire stance was different, imposing and a challenge to the eye, her eyes harder as though she had suffered many hardships - and he had let her.
"Thank you." He offered in as honest a tone as he could, determined to emphasise that he meant every word as he persuaded his companion bear to move on, "You seem familiar with the weather conditions to say the least." He continued, swallowing hard as she flicked her steely gaze towards him briefly before continuing on.
...He had wanted to try and find her, to try and see whether she had been alive but each time he had the elders had told him that he couldn't change the past. All it would serve to do was to hurt him further and yet...
Look at her now.
Hardly the mother he pictured in his mind. Hardly the desirable and noble mate that he had longed for, instead, she was now so similar to the cynical and bitter spinsters of the herd, the ones that had denied the stallions the pleasure of their company due to the height of their standards.
Would it have been different if he had found her? Protected her and fought to keep her safe, to make her feel appreciated?
...Would that demure and delicate mare return?
She really didn't recognise him.
"Forgive my lack of manners, they refer to me as Grencia." He continued, uncertain as to whether or not the name would hold any meaning to her but at least in some form, he would have introduced himself to her, "And the bear is Empy, my companion...."

"Grencia... I know that name." Yei mused as she slipped into the alcove as the heavy droplets began to fall upon the ground. It was small and she was forced to bow her head slightly but it was much warmer than the open slopes and the rain was more inclined to miss them from here. In short, it was ideal in the given circumstances.
"It's a nice name." She added, offering a smile that softened her features and seemed to cause the unfamiliar tension to intensify. Whatever she had done, whatever she had said had seemed to appeal to the stallion and although he didn't approach her she could already feel the magnetism - it almost compelled her.
"You appear to already know my name though," Shaking her head she turned her gaze towards the now heavy rain, raising a brow as the bear once again snuggled into the stallion's leg...it was terribly cute.
"Maybe the lions have been reasonably talkative this month." She mused, "Are you new to the area?"

"I -" For a time he was quiet, admiring her now soften features as once again her demeanor shifted to that familiar and almost demure female he had known so many years ago. Three years ago, three years ago to this day that he was going to request that she be his, it had also been the day he had discovered that she was 'dead'.
He hated it when that happened.
...Well not necessarily your potential mate dying, but any plan being dashed.
"Yes, I came from the other side of the mountains. Across the peaks." He replied at last, shifting his weight from one hind foot to the other in a wearied fashion. He'd flown for quite awhile and had walked without rest for quite a few days so he had every right to be tired but now was not the time to take a nap.
How to tell her?
You know that was the one duty he had never performed. Siring foals...
"I came in search of someone, an outlaw so to speak but my search has been in vain as of late. I do not wish to trouble you but if you are aware of an individual by the name of Paramekia then I -" He froze as a flash of recognition crept onto her face and she turned towards him with an incredulous expression.
"Would appreciate it if you would tell me where he is hiding." He finished bluntly.

"...Paramekia had been living at my Teepee for a while there." Having finally broken the ice, Yei was happy to speak with the wind on the subject of the infuriating Imperial stallion but was careful not to divulge his location. As the rain continued, so too did the flow of the conversation and by the time the rain was literally lashing out of the heavens she had long since progressed to not just locations, but the events that had transgressed since his arrival in the Kawani lands.
"He seemed to be very interested in the manipulation of females for a time, twisting them and coaxing them until they saw things his way but things seem to have changed." Shifting her head slightly to brush the mane from her eyes she fixed her gaze on the stallion who, for once, seemed to be interested in what she had to say.
"He met a mare, a very beautiful one by the name of Ailurinae and she seems to have done something to him." She smiled faintly as she recalled the warm glow in the stallion's eyes as he had departed and said his goodbyes. There had been a hint of cynicism in his voice but on the whole, he seemed to have a renewed sense of vigor and hope.
"In what way?" Grencia enquired, secretly savouring the warmth in the mare's voice and eyes as she spoke of the outlaw. It seemed that she viewed him in a fond way despite what problems he may have caused her in the past, the stallion was almost certain that Paramekia had never divulged his past to her though.
"He was in love." She gave a sigh and glanced briefly at the bear who was now experimentally prodding at her hoof. She was tempted to give him a slight nudge but thought against it, he didn't trust her enough at present.
"Love and Paramekia do not go together." Grencia's tone was flat and Yei cast an almost inquisitive glance towards him. They knew each other? Perhaps Paramekia had spoken of Grencia before and that was why she knew the name.
"Apparently they do, there is even talk of foals." Yei gave a chuckle and shook her head although a sad glint did lurk within her eyes. Everyone was in love, everyone was having foals and she was stuck on the sidelines without even the slightest chance, she wasn't desirable or 'rare' enough for the taste of the males in this land.
"Lucky him." There was no indication that Grencia was even remotely pleased and Yei gave him a somewhat startled look. Given his race, his colour and handsome exterior she would have thought...
"No luck?"
"It is a long story." He replied, flashing a bemused smile as he turned his gaze back towards the rain outside the alcove. He could hardly tell her now, hardly tell her that she was the object of his affections and had been since the day he had clapped eyes on her as a colt.
Nope, couldn't say that.
Couldn't say that she was the reason he hadn't sired foals and kept his duty to the herd because, like the spinsters, his standards were too high.
She would run a bloody mile!
"So, would you happen to know if there is suitable shelter elsewhere on this mountain or will I have to trudge into the forests?" He enquired, casting his gaze down onto the dark shadows of the forest below them - not that he had a problem with foliage but it made things difficult when you needed to get out quickly.
"Well..." Yei tilted her head to the side, it wouldn't have been the first time that she had invited a stallion to her teepee until he was settled elsewhere and for some reason, this one seemed different...trustworthy?
"There's always my teepee, it's not very big and not extremely warm but it's still a vantage point and has some decent shelter." She offered, flashing a very small smile towards him.
"That would be very much appreciated." He replied softly and they both fell silent...Each left to their own thoughts.
So admittedly, she had completely forgotten him, knew nothing of him and seemed to dislike the feathers that had been a subject of interest to her as a foal but at least she was prepared to at least help him - it seemed that somewhere deep down that demure female was still there, even if he couldn't have her and remained a forgotten face...
