If Slipknot is on the list, why isn't Stone Sour. Its the same band, just with a different name. Just thought I'd mention.
Only the singer and guitarist are the same. And their styles are completely different.

Oh, and for the record, "Nu" isn't even a word in Latin. Non means not.

it's a mistake, nu is (old) Greek I think

Emotional Shinobi

ps.Nu is a greek letter used for the kn sound. such as knee.
And it doesn't even exist in Latin. Also, as far as I know, there's no such thing as Nu-Salt. There is No-Salt, though.

I've had Greek for a couple of years, and the 'kn' letter is written like a v, it's called the 'nu' though. But that's like calling the letter n 'AN'
If I translate it litterally, nu-metal is N-metal, which could indeed indicate Non/Not-metal

Why isn't Korn on the list? I've yet to hear a guitar solo from them, Their lyrics would be rap without the guitars, and they make the whole world seem repetitive.

Korn don't even have metal riffs, do they?

Also, does Rage Against the Machine fall under nu-metal?

My question lies with what is Van Halen. They were one of the penultimate hair metal bands, but they had crazy instrumentation going on. There are exceptions to all rules, even ones pertaining physics, and so I would like to ask whether or not this would count.

Nu-Metal.... Bah, that's about as metal as Death Cab....

Yeah, because you're so ******** smart when it comes to the people of this guild.

@Flyguy- Hair Metal =/= Metal. Hair Metal is just Hair Rock, Van Halen is just rock.

i was thnking a bit and well... Korn is pretty Rockish... but can... can it be considered nu-metal??

also i was dissappointed by this thread for all the nasty comments about hair metal...It is metal and most of it was very influencial to metal bands today... thinik NWOBHM....(New Wave Of British Heavy Metal(for you metal noobs)) It started it all With Black Sabbath and Judas Priest... Then came Hair Metal... Then came Thrash With Bands like Slayer... then Came Nu-metal like Pantera and the nu-nu-metal like slipknot who procedes to call themselves thrash

all i ask is u look upon your metal history

Big time. What I meant was that the person a few posts above called Pantera nu-metal. Pantera started off as, belive it or not, power metal in the late 80's (Hence the name of the album). They're so far from nu-metal it is not even funny.

That album has no power metal other than in the name. Pantera started off as a hard-rock band.

Back to nu-metal, Disturbed is good. heart

You people.... Why must you continue to contest me so?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nu

Ok, so I was wrong. In a way.... Nu is not Latin, it is Romanian. What does it mean? Why, it means no.

And yes, there is Nu-Salt. I have some in my kitchen. Resturaunts serve it.

Still think I'm bullshitting you? http://www.nusalt.com/ E-mail the company, and ask them if it exsists.
