Clasi's note: Remember that Nu-metal is against the rules because it is not a genre of metal.
This comes from facts passed on either by word of mouth and through forums and certain websites, because no other forms of media know their face from their a** when it comes to music. This should become apparent when one sees someone on T.V. comparing Slipknot to Black Sabbath. It has nothing to do with opinion. Genres are pure 100% fact which are determined by key characteristics depending on the sub-genre or genre. Many of the genres you listed are non existant. See the Metal Recomendation thread for a complete list of known genres and bands which fall under them. The key characteristics of Nu-Metal include, but are not limited to: Heavy repitition, hip-hop influence, and angst lyrics. Nu-Metal contains the word 'metal' simply because of the mass media and their throwing the word around. It was labled "Nu-Metal" because Nu means no in Romanian[sp?]. Hence the name Nu-Salt of the salt-substitute intended for those who cannot consume high levels of sodium. To back up Kitti's analogy, it is not salt, although it is simular because the chemical composition is different than that of actual salt. Hence, it is not salt, just as Nu-Metal is not metal. Do you see the Metaphor? If not, it is quite simple. Nu-Metal is Alternative Rock with heavy Metal influences such as heavy dissortion, harsh vocals, and dark themes. However, it is not metal because it lacks complexity in instrumentals. Contrary to popular belief, metal is not determined by how "herdcurr" a band is. It is determined almost completely by complexity in intrumentals with normally includes guitar solos. There is a huge difference between the two, as you now know. The Genre was named that because of so many getting it confused with actualy metal. Genres exsist to keep music seperate and orderly. After all, you wouldn't want to turn on a rock station and hear country, would you?


I'd like to also state that Hair Metal/Glam Metal, are nothing more than rock and will also not be tolerated. Think of them as the Nu-Metal of the eighties.

I'd say it would be. I don't consider them nu metal, never have, tehy've always been more of a elctronica rock band, and kind of goth based.

Ninrei, thats okay. A lot of metalheads mistake the implication that nu metal is not metal for hatred of the genre. Asserting that nu metal ain't metal isn't the same as saying nu metal sucks, it is merely an attempt to seperate them for interest's sake, so that in this here metal guild, we don't get flooded with posts about bands that the originators of the guild never intended for discussion to be centered upon.
Personally, I don't have a problem with nu metal, and I wish most metal fans would agree that just because something isn't metal doesn't mean that, by definition, it 'sucks'.

I actually really like Incubus, but I always thought it was just "rock". sweatdrop
