Thanatos arrived at the Canine Island, he had not been there for a long long time. The path was still the same. He began his climb up the mountain. He could sense them, staring at him. Of course they would. He was once their sage and then he suddenly vanished without a trace. He could even hear some growling from them.
His head was low he actually loved the fact that he had returned but he could not bare to look at his friends. As he was making his way up someone stood or more like sat in his path. It was pakkun, they got along really well. He held no anger or happiness in his face upon seeing Thanatos."Hey Pak, it's been a while."
Pakkun sighed and looked at Thanatos."That's all you have to say? You've been gone for three years and now you just show up out of the blue? Like thing has changed or happened?"Thanatos stopped and looked at the ground but then he held his head up and looked at Pakkun."I'm here to see-" Pakkun interuptted him."I know why you're here, and I"M here to till you to turn around and go back."
Thanatos walked around Pakkun even after he told him to go back. Pakkun began to follow him."If you go and see Aoiyasha, she'll kill you. The manner in which you broke the contract tore her up inside. You know that don't you?" Thanatos nodded. As he continued walking up the slope. He was silent for a while as Pakkun continued following him, it seemed Pakkun was trying his best to get him to just go back.
Aoiyasha was that mad at him huh?"That day...Pakkun." The small dogs ear curved up towards Thana."I honestly believed that was the best decision."Pakkun shook his head recalling the events.Explosions, fire, and death. The battlefield around them has turned into a chaotic mess.
It was Thanatos against an army of UHV. All of his best techniques had been wiped away as if they never existed. Now he fought alongside his summons to try and defend him home. They had managed to disrupt the cannons from dropping volleys of bombs down on Kumo. But now he was up against squadrons of soldiers. With some shinobi mixed in Thanatos continued to fight.
As he was cut, as he was battered. He continued to stand up. He knew, he hoped that help was on the way. But as the battle raged on, it seemed less and less likely. But he knew deep down they would come. One by one his summons helped and received damage and were sent back. Aoiyasha was the remaining summon.
Thanatos clothes were tattered, he was bleeding from multiple places. Though most were shallow and non life threatening. He was tired, drained physically and mentally. Aoiyasha was doing her best to protect him as they continued holding up the army. A volley from a cannon got past them bomb and exploded knocking them both down. Aoiyasha was hurt and so was Thanatos.
He could barely even stand after that attack. But Aoiyasha who's pure white fur was stained with blood and mud towered over him. Protecting and deflecting as best she could."You've received too much damage, go back anymore and you'll-"He was interuppted again, it seemed it wa common for the canine not to respect their sage completely.
"I know what'll happen to me if I take too much damage in your world!"She then turned to the soldiers and a growl came forth."But I will never leave you alone Thanatos, I will die before I abandoned my sage." Her words gave him strength even if it was only a little. A volley of kunai came their way, Aoiyasha was preparing to deflect but as she attempted to move her ankle was too badly damaged and didn't allow her the mobility.
She closed her eyes as the volley came but nothing ever hit. The kunai stood in midair as she looked back at Thanatos who's body glowed a brilliant golden color. The Kunai were then forced back in the direction they came, ending many of the soldiers who fired them. The dark lines over Thanatos eyes gave him away. He was very low on chakra, and that S rank technique he just used didn't help.
Aoiyasha came near him, he didn't stand. He hadn't stood since the fall. "Thanatos are you?" Thanatos had a weak soft smile, as if he was laughing at himself."I can feel them...they just won't move." Kencha had suggested that they escape, but if they did that they would continue their bombing of Kumo.
He needed hold on until reinforcements came, if his parents weren't already dead from the bombs they would and many more if he let them continue.Aoiyasha nodded at him."Then I will stay."She faced her opponents as she could feel Thanatos pat her dirty fur."Aoiyasha, I appreciate this. Thank you." She thought he meant the fact she would stay with him until the end. He turned to give him a smile when she saw their summoning contract.
Was before him, noone else was available to be summoned so why would he. Thanatos lifted his thumb and bit it, allowing blood to run. Aoiyasha eyes went wide as he placed his bloodied thumb over the contract."I hereby relinquish my position and end our contract."Time stopped and Aoiyasha turned to stop Thanatos, but his name faded off the list and before she could reach him she poofed in smoke and reappeared back at the summoning island. A sorrow filled howl could be heard echoing throughout the entire area.
Pakkun sighed again."She tried leaving the islands to go back, but she wasn't in any condition to leave. And you ended our contract, terminated it completely. I think your the first person to ever do that. Everyone else just dies." Thanatos was sad hearing about that. But they had reached the top The only thing that was left was to open the door of the doghouse and meet with her. Pakkun tried one last time for him to go back."While Aoiyasha isn't the strongest of us, she was the one who vouched for you when you first appeared before us. Even if everyone else has forgotten about it and forgiven you. If she doesn't you can forget about sage, you won't even hold a summoning with us." But Thanatos wasn't listening. He entered Aoiyasha white fur was still as white and pure as ever. Though a scar or two could be seen, he wondered if she received those from that time. She faced away from him. Thanatos slowly walked up."Leave." She said. But he wasn't going anywhere until he said what he needed to say.
(Haad to change my entire post in the end cause I thought AOiyahsa was the boss. did you guys change that? Pakkun isn't really boss material XD)

xxxxxx "Aoiyasha." he said as her tail whipped out and struck him hard. Knocking him into a wall. he couldn't say it didn't hurt cause it did. He's not even surprised that she struck him. Pakkun tried to warn him." I came here to speak with you. Her tail flew out towards him again, but this time he was ready and managed to dodge. If he could just get her to listen to him.
xxxxxx Even with his nicely timed dodge, she kept coming at him. An unexpected paw came from the side and struck him. Knocking him against a stone pillar. It crumbled on impact burying Thanatos. It was getting more and more difficult to stand he wasn't as strong as he was before. But even so he got up again. The unsheathing of a blade could be heard, it seemed she was getting serious. She wasn't just going to listen to him. He got ready to dodge she charged at him and Thanatos calculated what would be the best way to diffuse the situation. At the end of his thought he simply got out of his stance and stood arms open wide embracing her attack."I'm sorry."He said simply as the blade stopped at his neck. Thanatos opened on eye to check she hadn't cut him accidentally. Looked like he wasn't bleeding. But looking up at Aoiyasha tears formed in her eyes."You think saying that will make us forget what you did?"Thanatos shook his head as a hand slowly rested on her blade lowering it. "I don't expect you to forget what happened three years ago. I made a choice...and I have regretted it every day since waking up." He stepped closer and patted her head."I've felt as if a part of me was missing as I walked among the living once again. I was a vegetable for three years. Waiting on a Sage who could possibly never wake up...I wouldn't want to do that to you guys either. So whether or not you forgive me...I just really wanted you guys to know that. And that...you will always be a part of who I am today. I will never forget you."Thanatos placed his forehead against hers as tears also streamed down his face. It had felt so good seeing everyone again. They were literally the only people in the world he actually knew. Even if they were summons, he felt at home among them. Aoiyasha was at a loss for words She couldn't stop the tears from coming as well. They just joined Thanatos tears on the ground. He stayed with her for a while and they just talked. He told her what he was informed happened to him. His three year coma and the months after his awakening. Even when he thought about killing himself. She told him about the ones who had come before him, it seemed myurai had taken his mantle as dog sage after him. But even he fell off as well. Much time had passed and Thanatos heart was full, the aching in his body had ceased. He had missed them so much seeing them again made everything better. Even if they didn't want him as sage again, Thanatos stood."I should be heading back. My village is expecting me."Aoiyasha was a bit confused."Are you not going to speak with Pakkun about returning to your position?" Thanatos shook his head."I don't think everyone will forgive me deep down...I wouldn't want to force the into agreeing if they truly didn't want me. This was enough for me just seeing you and everyone."Thanatos said his goodbyes and began to head out, Aoiyasha followed him as they exited the door to her home. As they exited it had gotten dark but torches had been set up. Next to every torch a dog summon was posted. They were all there waiting for them. Thanatos eyes opened wide, the first one to speak was Pakkun."Aoiyasha, tell us. What have you decided?" That was the same thing he asked her when Thanatos had originally became summoner years ago. The test was simply to get from one place to another, though many things were in his way. The true test that one of the dogs along the way would be the decider wether he was allowed or not. But Thanatos had no idea, he helped any dog in need on his way up. In the end, the dog who needed the least assistance, just a bit of water and a fan waved in thier face. Was his secret sponsor. Aoiyasha smiled rembering her words back them."I, Aoiyasha Officially sponsor Thanatos Hatake. And Recommend him to take his place as our sage once again." Thanatos was surprised, even though he had just finished crying, his throat started to hurt a little from holding back. Pakkun rose to speak once again."If anyone has any doubts, speak now and this motion will be denied. If for, raise your right paw." Looked to his left, the next summon above Aoiyasha sat there. He looked at Aoiyasha and then Thanatos and nodded, raising his right paw. One after another they raised their paws. Until finally Pakkun was the only one remaining."Welcome back home Thanatos."He raised his paw. Officially granting Thanatos his Sage status back. Thanatos thanked them all and decided to stay the night before heading back. In the morning he rose bright and early to start his way back to kumo.
"Go on, Kaoru"he cheered, sitting down at the border of Kensha. It would serve for him as a place to relax that also ensured Kaoru would not die of boredom while he did. He'd read about the lands of animals as a temple initiate, but it was hard to believe. The completely untrained Shiba Inu bounded off into the open, barking and yelping, tail just a wagging. He'd take a moment to smoke, but thought better of it. [1/10]
He did like dogs more than most people, but his was still young and only knew her name. Grunting back to his feet as she flit from his sight, he tucked his sword arm into his yukata and ventured further. This place reminded him of a junkyard, which seemed pretty cliche to him. The other dogs running around or lounging didn't seem to mind, so who was he to judge? Kaoru's borking caught his ears, but he didn't rush, unwilling to really intrude or give a frighten. [2/10]
After all, this wasn't his home, and he hadn't really asked to come here. It'd been ages since he'd met an animal that could talk. Perhaps they understood Kaoru and were just tolerating him like humans would a pet in some places. He paused mid-step, sensing a disturbance in the force. Nothing hostile, as he could actually sense that intent. No, as he looked down to see what he nearly stepped on, he was met with the mlep of a puppy. [3/10]
"Ah. Hmm. Sorry about that. Suppose it could have been worse though."Kanzaki took two steps back, and when the puppy didn't retreat, crouched down. Since his left hand had been bleeding and he forgot to change the bandage, he stuck out his right palm instead. The tiny dog waddled over and sniffed it, jumping back two times between additional sniffs. It would bark at him, but he didn't back any further away, which seemed to please his new little friend. [4/10]
His partner came sprinting from a large pipe opening ahead of him, tongue hanging out of her mouth. Looked like somebody was having a good time. So good a time, in fact, that she didn't seem intent on slowing down. Now that he thought about it, he hadn't spent much time playing with Kaoru, and she seemed intent on forcing it."Hold on. You're gonna meet Kaoru, so forgive her in advance. She's a little excited."Without really asking, he picked up the puppy by the scruff of its neck and set it to his right three feet away. [5/10]
Kaoru came barreling into him, making him roll backwards once before falling on his back. Not phased in the least, she began to lick his face while wiggling her legs on his abdomen. The puppy was joined by another unfamiliar hound that looked nothing like the former, but that didn't stop the two from walking over and sitting beside the ninja and his partner, tilting their heads to the side. While trying to block his face with his injured hand, he held out his right for the other dog to sniff. [6/10]
"Sorry. We're just visiting. She bothering you?"He got no response, so he'd assume that Kaoru wasn't giving any of the locals too much grief. Honestly, he'd try to tell her to behave, but she wasn't going to understand then or care now. Someone here was clearly excite. The newest dog didn't recoil from the offer of his hand sniffing introduction, so when that was over with Kanzaki gently nudged Kaoru off of his chest and stood up, wiping his butt off. [7/10]
He tucked his hand back into his yukata and carried on, trying his best to follow Kaoru. Not that she was doing anything other than circling around him and jumped up at each rotation, but it was something. The other two canines followed behind, the puppy especially close to Kaoru."Kaoru! Careful of the pupper."He raised his voice a little more to put some emphasis on making her mindful of the little thing she was nearly falling over as they ventured. [8/10]
The older dog following them wandered on ahead and out of sight, presumably back home after seeing what the noise and smell was about. The puppy after a while took off back to where he had met Kanzaki, with Kaoru bolting after it, overtaking him, pausing to bark, then took off again. He was glad she was having fun, but in terms of travelling to find purpose, he had to admit this first stop wasn't giving him much except fun with dogs. A welcome break nonetheless. Pivoting on his heel he following the two, pondering if there was anything to eat around here. Did dogs use money? [9/10]
Back near the entrance the puppy's parents had come to greet it, the mother and Kaoru sniffing each other. The pup's father was listening t its whines and yelps, alternating between looking at him, Kaoru, and Kanzaki."Uh, sorry. Didn't mean to take him far from home. I was keeping an eye on him though."He had to guess that in these animal lands that humans were no major threat, since the mother ignored him when he came closer, and the father walked up to him to sniff his boots. Kanzaki still knelt and offered his hand, which the father said "Yes" to and raised his paw in turn, leaving it on Kanzaki's palm for a second and turning away to guide his child inside. Kaoru and the mother both stopped sniffing and looked behind Kanzaki, frozen and blinking.

"What?"There was nothin behind him, and by the time he turned back around momma dog was heading back inside, and Kaoru was following. That was fine, as it meant some one was looking after what was ostensibly a teenager, leaving him to his own devices. He'd crack his neck and head deeper into Kensha, feeling for the first time much like a parent in that he didn't have to worry about his kid for a short moment and could do adult stuff. Like ponder reality. [1/2]
Not that he could get much of a chance. The more he explored, the more animals were staring at him from their pipes and high walled open windows."Something on my face?"This could not have been the first time they'd seen a human, so he had either committed some sort of crime or faux pas. He'd like to see more of this place, sure, but not if he was unwelcome. He checked behind him again and saw nothing, so he made his way out. [2/2]

After a brief "chat" with a language barrier, he negotiated letting Kaoru stay for a day or two with her new friend while he carried in on search of meaning, on the condition he bring back something tasty. Agreeing, Kanzaki set forth for more adventure.

Here he was, back again at the junkyard. He ventured this place had to be some kind of ruin before the dogs occupied it. Not that they were not intelligent, but it'd be hard for them to build all of it. Once again Kanzaki arrived in awe and a hyper awareness that he was just a man. [1/10]
Retracing his steps for the two days he was gone, he came to the home he left Kaoru at. The puppy came bounding out first with his father watching from the open doorway. Kanzaki knelt down and caught the puppy as it jumped at him."Hey there fella. You get along with Kaoru OK?"[2/10]
"Yes" was what Kanzaki got from the father, both the man and the puppy tilting their heads to the side. OK, so this one understood him, but either was stoic or had a limited vocabulary. Either way it was cool. He'd set the puppy down, who dashed inside barking. He could hear Kaoru within, but she was whining over something. [3/10]
He really should learn how to speak dog as well as teach her the common tongue. Guessing Kaoru was saying her goodbyes, Kanzaki took a walk into town alone. He did not receive as many strange looks as he did last time, mostly ignored like a tourist now. He didn't see much in the ways of some kind of economy, so feeding himself was going to be a challenge. He was quite hangery. [4/10]
While poking his head under a tarp he was barked at immediately from behind, making him jump. The Jounin turned about to come face to face with a dog as tall as he was."Am I interrupting?"The response he received was a deafening bark, with massive jaws coming at his face. Rather than defend himself, he fell back on his a** and held up his right arm. No sense in the local breaking his teeth on a sleeve of steel. [5/10]
Surprisingly, after his flinch, teeth the size of pocket knives had not severed his arm. In fact, they were barely touching, but indeed poised to cinch shut over the limb. The massive animal was staring him dead in the face, and Kanzaki back. Was this a test? Was he being tested? He relaxed his shoulders, sliding his wrist out of the huge doggo's mouth and stood up, brushing off his yukata. [6/10]
"Right. It won't happen again."He was rewarded with a blast of wet air from its nostrils, exhaling its reluctant satisfaction with his guardian response to violently authoritative apprehension. It nodded with him as it turned to leave, Kanzaki following behind it for a short bit before breaking off. [7/10]
So some of the locals didn't mind him, and the apparent guard gave his gruff blessing. If he knew how to speak he wouldn't mind settling here in his down time. He let his mind wander as his feet carried him back to Kaoru. She clearly loved it here, and it was nice to be away from ninjas and other humans in general. Who didn't love dogs? Monsters! [8/10]
Sure enough the whole family was outside, going back and forth with their goodbyes. Kaoru's mood seemed to have improved slightly, with Kanzaki speaking up in a lull."She can come back to visit, of course. Is it OK if I come too? I promise I'll be more social if you'll have us."Surprisingly it was the mother who spoke up. "Of course hun! We love her." The father nodded and offered his usual "Yes" to the proceedings, earning a butt bump from the mother. [9/10]
Both the ninja and his animal partner laughed through their noses, Kanzaki stepping closer to shake the hands of the adults in turn. The puppy lunged and pawed its way atop his shoulder, precariously balanced."No, you're not ready just yet I don't think. We'll be back soon I think. C'mon."Like a silly hat he lifted the pupperino straight up and off his head and laid it back down on the ground, giving it a boop on its head before standing with a grunt. [10/10]

Reaching into his yukata, Kanzaki withdrew one of the thin paper manuals that he had purchased when he adopted Kaoru. She followed along behind him, seemingly less distracted than before, and her owner was curious what, if anything, she had learned. Maybe she just spent the past few days playing without his obnoxious watchful human eyes. Clearly so, as howls and barks trailed behind the pair as they made their way to the edge of the junkyard wilds. [1/2]
Turns out they had a well wisher to bid them goodbye. He hadn't seen this one before. A large dog, all white, with a narrow scarf of black and red and yellow, who glared with ruby eyes straight through him. With any luck he had not pissed her off while he was here. "Alright, calm down."For what felt like the sixth time he was back in the land of dogs. If Kaoru didn't know any better, she might begin to think if they left Konoha, they were coming here. He knew he was coming back here because of dice rolls, but in character, he could not explain why. Something was drawing him to come back, like there was more to see or he'd missed something. [1/10]
For the third time they arrived, Kanzaki a bit more apprehensive at the prospect, whilst Kaoru is delighted. She goes full sprint into the domain of her people, with Kanzaki at her heels. They venture much further inland, passing the large hill leading into a wider open area. This far, they had only strayed within sight of the entrance. [2/10]
The signs of a civilization were far greater the deeper they ventured, happening upon the valley. Much of what could be called a city center lay here. What looked like shops were all over. Signs in crude writing, covered stalls, and cushions were abound. It looked less lived in and rugged when compared to where the inhabitants slept and stayed and ate. Speaking of eating, the scent of beef caught their attention. [3/10]
Kaoru bounded over to an open grill with an older bearded fox was steling strips of beef raw or cooked."I don't think they take Ryo, Kaoru. How much are they?"He asked the shop keep, who of course growled and yipped incomprehensibly. Kaoru took a shot at it, asking how many of the tiny shinies was needed for noms. The fox wasn't interested in them, as the need for human money was only at the higher level of shipping. It wasn't as f every animal here was a hunter, but cattle weren't roaming free either. [4/10]
Kanzaki stuck his arm in his yukata and walked a short bit away, standing tall over dogs and coyotes and foxes and such gong about their day. He heard a lot of noise, none of which he understood. The language was their own, so why bother with common, especially when few went about the world? Domestication seemed tolerable here, since Kaoru hadn't been liberated from him yet, but this island seemed just as bustling and homey as anywhere could be. Just for animals. [5/10]
"A guy could get used to this." Said entirely to himself, forgetting the possibility some one might understand and be able to respond. "Stay then." He blinked and looked down and behind him. It was the fox at the grill, looking up at him. Kaoru had been commandeered with assisting on few orders, wearing a tall chef hat hilariously, while a younger fox guided her on."I'm sorry?"He almost knelt down, but considering how crowded the area was he remained standing. [6/10]
"Stay here if you like it. You'd have to be vouched for, but your friend on the grill seems to like it here, so that'd be easy. A few humans come and go, but they're here for so long and stay away so little, they're practically residents. Merchants and craftsman, mostly. Pick up the lingo in no time." Engrossed by this, Kanzaki stroked his chin and took a long look around the place. He had a place to live and an NPC mother, but not really a home. Why not live in Kensha? [7/10]
"I don't have much to offer, afraid. I'm just a shinobi.""Heck friend, they come here most often. Not like we need human ninjas, but you never know. Ask around for Aoiyasha. Your friend is working off the meal for you, since you both don't have anything to trade.""Just mine?""Hers was on the house. I owed Ganta a play with my grandson." That had to be some one Kaoru had met during her stay. He wasn't going to dig deeper, merely clasping his hands and bowing as the fox walked off. [8/10]
Could he actually live here? There were certainly bitches, but not human women as far as the eye could see, and he had his tastes. Still, he thought it over as he kept behind the fox back to his dog, wondering what a human ninja could barter to live here. Thanking the grandfather and grandson for the meal, Kaoru laid beside Kanzaki and gnawed at the meat in her paws. Kanzaki did much the same, sitting down and eating the stick of steaming beef with both hands. [9/10]
Off a ways away his eyes caught that same flash of white and splash of reds, belonging to an animal that had an air about it different than the rest of the locals. She was watching him like last time, and not bothering to hide it. It had to be some one of importance, but Kanzaki would wait until he sought them out. The residents had given up blatantly staring save for that one wolf. Kaoru either did not notice or did not bother to care. She had beefy noms in her tummy and was content. [10/10]

Time went on as they rested from their slight meal, with some dogs coming to talk to Kaoru, leaving Kanzaki to ponder or give consenting scratches and rubs to whoever asked. He had to be shown the first time, his hand held in a wolf's jaws and guided to another's ears before he got the hint. Did that function as some kind of trade? Could he get free room and board for just lounging with wolves all day. Doubtful. Kaoru's notoriety seemed to be on the rise, as a young dog from the outside world on an island with few visitors. Her human companion was just a side show. That is until he mentioned to Kaoru that he would like to get back to his pilgrimage to nowhere. Kaoru did not get up, which he took at first to mean she did not want to. After all, Kanzaki had not demanded, only mentioned he'd like to [1/2].
Then he realized the one who had been watching them was, in fact, standing before the two of them. "That's her!" came a whispered shout from the grandpa fox beef grill chef. It was who? Aoiyasha? Clearly come kind of bigwig around these parts. Kaoru had laid back down and made a deliberate bow with her head, which Kanzaki had certainly taught her. Unsure of what specifically to do, and also since he only had 2 legs, he sat back down in seiza position, placing his hands on the ground and bowing his head low for a breath. Once his upper body rose again he held out his right hand, palm facing the dirt for Aoiyasha to sniff if she chose. If this one had authority, he'd actually respect it, since Kages and Chuunin and such hadn't been highly reliable in his earlier days."Yoriyoshi Kanzaki-no-Kami Uchiha no Konohagakure... partner to Uchiha Kaoru... The Shiba Inu beside me... Look, I'm really sorry but I don't know the proper greeting around here. "This is your question?" Kanzaki just nodded, Aoiyasha putting her paw over his hand to force it down. This one was odd, but he could work if he gave a damn. "It is acceptable. As are you. Come." Kanzaki looked to Kaoru, who had no clue what she meant either, but both of them rose and followed Aoiyasha, the duo being led through the hustle and bustle. The fox chef and his grandson borked their goodbyes, which Kanzaki waved back at over his shoulder. It was not to some grand palace or larger communal dwelling he was taken to. Instead, the two Uchiha were taken a house a few feet wide and no higher than his waist. It was every bit as a cliched doghouse as one could get. Inside though was anything but cliched. "Lord Pakkun. This one is looking for work. A shinobi." The old dog himself squinted in the light as he came outside, wearing a forehead protector, much like the one Kanzaki had thrown into the sea ages ago."That so. So tempting, that when he poked a hole in his palm with a hashi to sign, he didn't even remember he did not know one lick of fuuinjutsu. His lengthy name was signed with quite a bit of blood, not wanting to condense it any. Taking a queue from the others, he smeared blood on his palms and signed with a paw print of his own."That's what I like to see. Now that you've done that for us, let's do something for each other. C'mon."Kanzaki wiped his hands on his black trousers and put out his cigarette, standing up to follow Pakkun up into the hills of the Canine Wild Lands.

"Hamukau. Kawa. I brought the kid."After what seemed like hours Kanzaki and Pakkun arrived at a plateau, with a slight cave guarding the entrance, enclosed by a ring of high stones. One small and very old dog came walking out to greet them, even more aged than Pakkun. Kanzaki of course went to kneel, bow, and hold out his hand, which was sniffed and dismissed."Kawa said you'd do that. I am Hamukau of the Dog Clan. Mama Kawa is asleep, figurin' she don't have to do any work since this was all her idea.""Yoriyoshi Kanzaki-no-Kami Uchiha no Konohagakure. So, that idea. Plenty of employees sign contracts, but not in blood.""Pakkun! You didn't say he was slow in the head. You explain to him the thing?""Dame Kawa sai--""OH right. Kawa this, Kawa that. Where's she. Old coot. Sit own Kanzaki-chan. We got a lot to talk about. First of all, this troubling matter of where you're from. You get one chance to answer me true, Kanzaki-chan. Only one. Tell me who you are."Kanzaki stared, his expression growing stern. The hair on Pakkun's neck stood on end, ready to go at this kid if he tried anything, or at least bite him on the calf to draw blood if he refused. Kanzaki stood up and pulled out a cigarette, gesturing to it before lighting it to Hamukau."Downwind, boyo. Downwind."Lighting up, Kanzaki took a long drag, staring at the cherry before speaking."I think it'll do me some good to finally get this off my chest. Hours passed. The early afternoon sun had long since set. The stars in the sky were at their highest and brightest point by now. Over the evening Kawa had brought them all something to eat, but otherwise stayed out of the events, having no felt so well the last few days. Pakkun shut his mouth, groaning at having it open for so long, nowhere near finished trying to take in everything he had just heard. Hamukau was as quiet as Kanzaki was the latter of which was finishing the last cigarette he had on him."I'd tell you to forget all that, but we know you won't... Well that's out of the way. He's worthy, Pakkun. I've got things from here. "Pakkun yawned his goodnight and headed into the cave's guest bedroom. Hamukau got to his feet and started to walk, bidding Kanzaki to follow, which he did so that both could stretch their legs."It's not just that we need a guard around here. We got plenty of guards, boyo. Ninjas used to come over all the time seeking our favor and signing the contract you just did, becoming one with use through battle. To call on one another to fight when in defense of ideals and life. We don't have that anymore, boyo. But there's another level to that contract. I know you don't know so I'll just go ahead and tell you. The Dog Clan needs a Sage. Too few humans commune with nature on any real level. A ninja can combine their stamina and spirit to create chakra. But a Sage can take in energy from nature, boyo, nature. It makes that fighting strength and bond stronger than anything, and brings them closer to Momma Dog. If you ask me, the Dog Clan and Humans have been bonded since time began, and that we don't have a Sage is downright pitiful.""So why me?""Don't interrupt, Kanzaki-chan! You wanna know why? You're so very wow. Much so. The training is difficult, more than you can imagine, but not the way you're imagining. You just have to undo your every instinct as a living creature. What do you say?""Apparently you already knew I'd say yes, but I do accept.""Good to hear. Your training begins now. Sit out here, all night. Don't move a muscle. Don't fall asleep. I'll check on you in the morning. Gnite boyo.""..."Doing as he was bid, Kanzaki sat down in the open field to meditate, thinking that could keep him awake. It wouldn't.
