What.

Elias didn’t actually say the word aloud, but it thought it hard enough that he figured he might as well have. The flat confusion was probably sketched plain across his face. Of all the answers he had expected, being called pretty at random had not been even made the list. Or rather, having his hair called pretty if what the man across from him was staring at was any indication of what he was actually talking about. “…thank you,” he said slowly and in much the same tone one used with a potentially dangerous animal. Soft and careful and laced with suspicion.

He decided to try a new tactic. If he could identify the man (it was a man, right?) sporting drag in front of him, maybe it would help him figure out what had happened. Or at least what he should do now. Feeling like a useless bystander had never been something he was fond of. The need to have some influence on the world around him had gotten Elias in a lot of trouble in his youth and even if he had curbed the more destructive tendencies, that still left him with a sense of ‘must fix’ when faced with the unfamiliar. “You’re a new teacher I take it?” he guessed. That or a janitor, though that was definitely not a janitor’s traditional uniform.

A familiar voice made him turn and he saw Haru. A trace of smugness entered the gray eyes. The reason most teachers sought him out was for computer troubles. Was it possible he had won their bet already? That would be great. One less thing to worry about when he went back to try and fix his own computer glitches. Behind Hatu he could see what looked like a student with a calm, nearly serene expression. He raised an eyebrow at the way Haru was moving. There was a certain urgentness to it he didn’t remember being a part of the silver haired teacher’s usual gait. Was he running away from a student?

The smug look increased. Who in the world had managed to put someone like Haru on the run? Overly enthusiastic learner? The kind that asked question after question until you wanted fake your own death just to get away? Maybe a cute little student-teacher crush? That seemed plausible. Even Elias had noticed how Haru looked and Elias didn’t make a point to notice things like that. Either possibility promised a bit of revenge for the metaphorical squirming he’d been put through the day before.

“Haru,” he said pleasantly. “Who’s your tagalong?” He deliberately oriented himself to see both the teacher and the student without losing sight of the new teacher. He didn’t want to miss any of this.

Haru was thrown off balance enough that he didn't notice the almost smug look that drifted into the other teacher's eyes. He was far more happy to have found other people so that should anything happen he had witnesses. He'd really never faced something like Aiden before and he had the urge to put people protectively between them. Unfortunately, Elias ALSO happened to notice the dark haired boy following at a more docile pace behind him.

"Ah yes, Elias this is Aiden Dark, he's a new student. Aiden, this is Eilas December he teacher's ninth grade."Haru made the introductions, accompinied by Miko's meow of greeting for the dark haired male she recognized as having given her food. With a light leap she abandoned Haru for the other teacher and twined her way into his hair before sitting down to start cleaning the dark strands. Far from seeming upset at this, a touch of Haru's original smile brushed to life as he shifted along with the dark haired teacher to put him between the ash-blonde and the student.

"Exclusive?"Aiden asked, tipping his head slightly to the side so dark strands slid over the midnight blue eyes and partially concealed them. He was beginning to wonder which, or if all, of them he was going to have to do in order to get dinner. He hated being hungry, it was the only thing he actively worked to avoid. The blonde teacher seemed to be using the dark haired one as a shield, so assuming the newer male was the more dominate of their relationship Aiden turned his ancient gaze towards Elias.

"Who's your friend? And what happened to the cafeteria?"Haru asked quickly after a short choked cough. It was like there wasn't a switch off valve in the kid. Silver grey orbs darted towards the other blonde that was currently staring at Elias' hair like it was the golden fleece and arched an eyebrow as some of his good humor returned. Well, at least he wasn't the ONLY one getting hit on. Granted he probably would have preferred the gender confused maid to the student...

Aiden for his part was standing just a touch inside of what was proper distance for a stranger. He really would rather get this over with quickly, so he was willing to move things along if that was what his marks wanted in order for him to get some food. He smiled, a look that promised the world as he reached up and twirled the ruby earring in his fingers in a way that actually had Haru gulping and stepping back a pace.

Minagi just smiled politely. "Yes, I am the 8th grade teacher, Minagi Kawashinma. And what teacher are you?" he asked in response of his question. He was really having a hard time staying cheerful, anxious to sneak into the hospital and make his brother crossdress as punishment for his stupidity.

He then remembered the man asking him a question earlier. "Ah you could say that. But really I don't remember quite much of it. I think one was hospitalized, but that's it really." he ensured.

Seeing two more people enter, Minagi just smiled and waved. "Hello there! How are you guys this evening?"

“Elias December,” he said with a nod, a bit more at ease now that the conversation seemed to have veered in a more normal direction. “Ninth grade.” He considered giving the usual information on his specialty with the campus electronics, but decided this particular conversation did not need the added complication. If Minagi had trouble with his computer, he would ask around and eventually someone would know enough to direct him to Elias so the problem could be fixed. Instead, his attention narrowed to focus on the answer to his earlier question.

“Hospitalized?”he asked sharply. “And you say you don’t remember what happened?” The man’s tone regained its suspicion, expression serious. Whatever this Minagi thought, such things were not jokes to be brushed off or casual things to be dismissed. And memory loss… that sounded fake. Actual memory loss from trauma was rare without a concussion that would have required Minagi to be in a hospital himself. He smiled suddenly, but it was not a friendly one. It was an expression that said Elias was willing to play nice for now but the moment he had any kind of evidence that Minagi was not telling him the entire truth there would be hell to pay. “I see… How unfortunate.” The words were clipped and calculated as the gray eyes studied the new teacher much the way he would study a virus that had slipped past his firewalls.

With a sigh and a slight softening of his expression he turned to the new student and nodded. The serious composure was completely lost as a small lump of gray fur abandoned Haru and came suddenly barreling towards him. Elias floundered for a moment, trying desperately not to accidentally drop the feline on it’s head. It finally seemed to settle for grooming him and Elias blinked. Looking respectable at all while there was a kitten giving you a bath was not easy. So much for first impressions. The computer teacher rolled his eyes but could not stop the soft smile that crept onto his lips.

“Hmm?” Elias muttered, distracted by the cat enough that he did not immediately grasp what Aiden was saying. “No, I also teach an extracurricular electronics course and supervise the computer club. Until we’ve filled the entire staff roster I may sub in the other grades from time to time.” Fingers scratched lightly behind the kitten’s ear before his eyes were brought back up at the sound of a strangled sound coming from Haru. Elias raised a dignified eyebrow, but chose not to comment. There was something… off about this situation. Unfortunately, there was actually too much unusual for him to pinpoint which strange part was irking him.

“Haru, this is Minagi Kawashinma,” Elias did his best with the pronunciation of the last name, taking his time with it. “The new eighth grade teacher.” And he really had no answer for the second half of that question so he merely shrugged. Time enough to sort this out later. He was now starving, willing to chance the cafeteria food. He was on friendly terms with most of the cooks, trading peanut butter cups for a program that sent their food orders to the, ah, priority list on the delivery van’s route. It only gave them a couple extra days when they needed to order something, but apparently that counted for a lot.

“I assume you’re both here to eat?”he said. “Come on. Minagi, you are of course welcome to join us.” God it was hard to sound formal and in charge when you were trying not to laugh because cat fur was tickling your ear. But he had seniority and he was damn well going to make sure the new teacher knew not to screw with him. …not that it had worked on Haru terribly well. Come to think of it, Haru was behaving. What the hell?

As every cat owner knows, nobody owns a cat

Haru carefully arranged himself in a better position to use Elias' body as a shield as the other teacher seeme3d to be stuck for a moment, not sure what to do about Miko who was grooming him from his shoulder at the moment. Finally he seemed to settle for amused before answering Aiden's question. Haru blinked, slightly shocked that Elias had taken his question in such a normal manner. Was HE the pervert? Maybe Aiden really wasn't sending out the creepy, I'll do you or a dollar, aura and Haru had gone over the bend and was now a *****. It was a daunting possibility that threatened to crush his rather massive self-esteem. No, there was NO way he was misreading this. Elias apparently was just a lot more pure of brain than he was, which normally would have been a challenge for the ash-blonde male to have attempted to change, but at the moment he had other problems.

Aiden for his part arched his eyebrow at the response he got from the dark haired teacher. Either the guy was REALLY into games, or he was clueless. Given his history, Aiden was going with games. Elias turned and introduced Haru to the crossdressing made, indicating he was actually one of the teachers. Haru was apparently in for all sorts of surprises tonight.

"Ah, hello. Nice to meet you."Haru tipped his head slightly, a faintly haunted look in the back of his grey eyes as he continued to use Elias as a living shield. While it was massively out of character for the flirtatious he was feeling slightly hunted at that moment and therefore didn't offer up any comments or suggestions about his fellow teacher.

"I'm available after then."Aiden commented lightly, no particular emotion in his voice as he shrugged one shoulder again in a familiar move as Elias invited them all to go eat. As long as he got food he was willing to play whatever game the teacher wanted. He'd never done three at a time, but he was a quick learner and fairly confident he could handle it.

Haru skirted around to make sure he was keeping at least one person between him and Aiden. Feeling a rather serious urge to make it apparent that he was currently taken, but he had a feeling the dark haired male didn't care. The hand that had been playing with the earring traveled up through his hair and back in a gesture that did nothing to tame the messy collection of black strands. His only interest was in food.

"Food is good, JUST food is wonderful."Haru pointed out in return, shooting a quick look at Aiden only to meet perfectly content midnight eyes that didn't seem to have a trace of anything in them that suggested he cared one way or another. It was unnerving and Haru wasn't sure how to respond to it other than to stay out of his way. Given Aiden continued to stay well within the personal space of Elias had the ash-blonde frowning slightly with a slight surge of an emotion he NEVER felt. He had an urge to pull the dark haired teacher away, and possessive jealousy wasn't a color he wore.

x x Katsumi had decided not long ago that there was not enough light in his room. He very much enjoyed the quarters he was assigned, indeed. They were comfortable and provided what he would need to rest and live comfortably at the boarding school that was now his career. But while there was light enough to see, and enough for a normal person to consider plentiful, none of it was the right kind of light. And it just wasn't concentrated in one spot enough to be useful. The desk lamp was too dim and the wrong color of light. And so Katsumi was left with no good station to work in his quarters. He told himself that the next chance he got he would go and buy a better lamp, or perhaps an entire station to work at. But for now, he had to go somewhere else if he was to get rid of that insatiable itch to work. And so that was how he found himself walking down the hallway, and stopping in front of an entrance labeled at the top, 'Cafeteria'.

x xIn his arms were several papers, all of slightly differing sizes. He had a pair of reading glasses perched precariously on his nose, and a book bag was slung around his shoulder. His already messy red hair completed the look of a seemingly unorganized and clumsy teacher. Katsumi knew all too well that was what he looked like; just having the glasses made him look like that. But what only he knew until one spoke to him was that he was not an unorganized and clumsy teacher. It was an unintentional facade. No, Katsumi was organized, though it was often the kind of organization that looked like clutter that only he could understand. And he was not clumsy. Certainly not! Several times he had been commented on how graceful he seemed at times. And as for the papers.. they were too large to fit into his bag, and he hadn't felt the need to pull out his case just for a few pieces of paper that weren't even very valuable... yet.

x xWith some difficulty, Katsumi successfully opened the door to the cafeteria without dropping anything. The large room was as brightly lit as he expected it would be, and he almost smiled in satisfaction. He had set his load on a table and spread the papers before him, still standing, before he noticed that the cafeteria was not empty, as he expected it might be. Four others were in the room as well; by their appearances Katsumi guessed three teachers and a student. Why a student was hanging around three teachers was confusing in its own, but the redhead was more thrown off by one of the teachers. He.. she.. The teacher.. was either a cross-dressing man or a slightly masculine woman. After scrutinizing the person for a few moments, he settled on the fact that it was a cross-dressing man. Blinking several times to allow himself to grow used to the image, Katsumi looked away, making no move to introduce himself, and sat down in front of his things.

x x As he began paying more attention to the work spread out in front of him, the redheaded teacher became less and less aware of the four people in the room with him, and more immersed in his work. His art. The papers that were not in his bag were five unfinished works; he planned on working on a little bit of each for now. His tools for the sketches were in his bag. After fishing around finding a pencil, Katsumi situated one drawing in front of him; what it looked like now was just quite a few jumbled lines that, if one blurred his eyes, might look dimly like some landscape. What it would look like in the future was rolling hill after rolling hill, focusing on the right side of the page, where a large, ancient holly tree spread its leaves over the crest of one of the hills. And in the distance the hills became forested, and after that, mountains would rear up in the background. Sadly, the picture was far from completion, and Katsumi quietly got to work, continuing where he had left off yesterday.

It wasn’t that Elias was pure of heart. Far from it. But he was, beneath the way he tried to present himself as cool and in charge and responsible, a geek at heart. Things fell into certain lists and places in his mind. If he had been asked that same question or stared at the same way by Haru, he would have probably reacted differently. But the student was, well, a student. His mind immediately went to the more innocent explanations for anything directed his way from a student. The presence of a cat on his shoulder did nothing to help him pay more attention and realize exactly what was going on.

He faintly noticed the way Aiden was a touch too close, a bit too near, but because he’d already decided that Aiden had a crush on Haru, this made sense. Haru was on the other side of Elias and Aiden was tying to get closer to him. Which was too funny to put a stop to yet. Haru clearly had no intentions of encouraging the young man’s affections so their wasn’t any danger of an inappropriate liaison and Elias was vindictive enough to want to see the silver haired man squirm with a dose of his own medicine for once. Ha.

But the seriousness with which Aiden spoke gave him pause. This wasn’t the time or place for a discussion on it, but they were teachers. Sometimes uncomfortable issues had to be addressed whether they liked it or not. Responsibility for your actions and the actions you could influence was important. “Aiden,” he said suddenly, gray eyes flicking down to the startlingly old ruby ones, “I think you should realize that student teacher relationships on anything but a strictly platonic level is prohibited.” He made a pointed glance at Haru. Technically everything the boy had said could be completely innocent but now that he was paying attention Elias didn’t think the boy could have said “please pass the salt” and have it be innocent. There was just something about him that made you feel like you’d stepped into a redlight district. It couldn’t be on accident could it?

Elias nodded once and turned to lead them off to the food line, pushing open the doors and holding it momentarily for the next person. He nearly tripped over Aiden once and reminded himself to be patient with the new students. Just because someone had an strange aura like that didn’t mean you had to react to it. If Aiden wanted to play sex god, he would damn well do it away from Elias’s teachers and Elias himself.

“Trays there,” he pointed for the student’s benefit. “Buffet style. Get your food, find a place to sit. Mingle with the students.” That was as good a dismissal as he was going to get. Elias followed his own advice and took a tray, perusing the line.

Aiden followed behind the group of teacher's, having watched the crossdresser leave so that at least temporarily dropped him from the discussion. He slid his midnight blue gaze to the side and up to glance through the long dark bangs in an almost adorable action had it not been for the sense of seduction behind the action, responding when he heard his name being spoken. At the comment his lips quirked up slightly in blatant disbelief.

"Of course."
Aiden rolled his shoulder slightly. He didn't care what games he was supposed to play, at some point or another he'd played them all. He could keep a secret it the price was right. He wouldn't mind adding a little bit extra cash to his collection anyway, he wanted to pick up a necklace he'd seen in the city on their way through. It was strange how many people enjoyed the game more if there was an element of danger, he wouldn't have pegged the dark haired male as being the type, but he found it was better not to make those assumptions.

He slipped through the doorway just as the ash-blond teacher did, moving in such a way he slid practically along the male's front. Haru froze in a jerking motion before bolting once more behind Elias, Aiden gave him a docile look that suggested he had no idea why the other male was acting so strange before turning his blue gaze towards the indicated trays. For a moment there might have been a touch of surprise in his eyes but it faded away behind the docile look once more. So he got to eat first? That one was unusual.

Shrugging slightly he moved across the room, his gait the smooth walk from earlier. A world weary seduction in motion as he accepted the dismissal for what it was. He was aware of the eyes that watched him, memorizing faces with the skilled practice of a hunter as he picked up a tray and began moving down the line, picking up food without seemingly paying any attention to another person in the room.

As every cat owner knows, nobody owns a cat

Haru nodded his head, slightly distracted, when the teacher/maid made his excuses and let the two teachers and the student standing in front of the cafeteria. He was beginning to wonder if this was his punishment for all those girls that he'd broke it off with. They HAD always said he'd get his in the end. Granted he hadn't thought he'd been CRUEL when he'd done it which just made this a bit of an over-reaction on Karma's part if that was what it was.

Some of what the student was broadcasting must have finally gotten through to Elias because the dark haired male called the other boy's name and calmly told him that teacher/student relationships were not allowed. Haru could have kissed him. He made a mental note to do so as soon as he got a chance to in fact. Although he wasn't so sure about the smile the dark haired student graced them with when he agreed. Hoping that the whole situation would resolve itself he let Elias walk ahead of him through the doors and moved to follow, only to have what equated with a human cat rub as the student slipped in before him. Feeling haunted again he froze and then dove for the relative safety behind the taller dark haired male. He was NOT going to be caught anywhere alone with this kid.

"Thank god he's not one of mine."Haru breathed when Aiden took the hint and moved away from them to accept a tray and pick up his own food. The ash-blonde teacher's shoulders sagged as he sighed in relief at getting the overly ambitious student as far away from him as possible.

"I'm changing your title from coffee b***h to bodyguard."Haru drawled to his fellow teacher, turning his grey eyes towards the long haired male as he slowly started to relax once more. He grabbed a tray of his own and kept Elias between him and Aiden as he started moving down the line and picking up his own foods.

Yukio had ended up carrying Dion with some newfound strength all the way to the wing that held the cafeteria. Dion was glad he hadn't had to walk all that way, but he wondered how Yukio had been able to do it. He opened the cafeteria door and waltzed inside.

He noticed that there was a new teacher and a new student inside. He saw Haru and Elias and he called out to them.
"Hi, senseis!" He turned back to the new teacher, forgetting his hunger for the moment and walked over. "What are you doing?"

x x Katsumi found himself glancing around the cafeteria only a few minutes later, and curiously eying the cross-dresser as he left. His eyes swept back to the remaining two teachers and student, and he watched the odd exchange for a few moments. While he couldn't hear what was going on, just the way the student was acting towards the silver-haired teacher (whom he hadn't yet spoken to himself) was rather... well, he could say suggestive. But really he didn't know anything and decided not to question what was going on half-way across the room from him. So he bent his head back down to his work and continued shaping the hills he was still working on. Soon he'd begin work on the tree itself, which was at the moment nothing but the beginnings of a stump and an outline of how far out the branches and leaves would extend.

x x And after only a few minutes of work, Katsumi was once again pulled away from his work, though this time because of his own wandering mind. This time it was because of a young voice asking from almost directly behind him, "What are you doing?" Blinking, Katsumi set his pencil down and turned around. Directly in front of his was a bare chest. Scratch that. A bandaged, but otherwise bare chest. The redhead frowned and raised his eyes to the student. He was a small blond boy, who looked to be in either eighth or ninth grade, and he was looking curiously at Katsumi's work. The teacher silently took note of the wrapped chest and head, wondering what had happened to him. He reached up and lowered his glasses (which were for drawing and reading only), to take a closer look at the boy before responding.

"I'm drawing," he said, quite bluntly, giving the kid another once over. Then he turned around and put his glasses back and picked up his pencil. He bent over the drawing again and continued sketching, hoping that the boy would walk away and get his food, like he must have been here for. But some little nagging instinct in the back of his mind told him that would not be the case. Frowning, Katsumi attempted to ignore both the boy and the instinct.

Dion leaned a little bit closer to see what he was drawing, but most of it was blocked by the older males shoulder. He leaned back and rocked on his heels. "Watcha drawing?" Dion was curious. The only other person he'd seen sketching, and not even from this standpoint, was his roommate Kaito.

Dion moved to the other side of the table and sat himself down across from the other. He watched as the male made different types of strokes with his pencil and he wondered how it all worked.
"Can I try?" In truth, Dion couldn't draw for beans, and the best he could do was stick figures, but he wanted to make something for Yukio. Like a get well card. His hunger had been forgotten.

x x He clenched his jaw as he felt the blond kid lean forward and tried his very best to ignore him. However, it was hard to do such a thing when he was speaking to him. He looked up briefly, not bothering to hide his scowl, and said, "A landscape." And then he turned around and continued to attempt to draw. It was proving to be increasingly difficult, however. Katsumi always had trouble drawing with lots of interruptions, hence why he had wanted to draw in his room, but couldn't, because there was not enough light. And so he had to come here, where he had thought there wouldn't be many people, because it was fairly late. Was there a curfew for these students or anything?

He nearly growled in frustration when the student walked around the table and sat down across from him, watching him draw. He looked just a bit too curious. And then he heard why. Try? Try what? Katsumi finally set his pencil down and took another good look at the kid, raising an eyebrow skeptically. "You want to try... drawing?" he said. He looked down at his paper, and then at the blond, who looked quite oblivious to what drawing might actually be and mean. "Have you ever drawn in your life, boy?" asked Katsumi, not all that kindly. He sighed in annoyance and reached over to his bag. From within it he withdrew another pencil and a piece of scrap paper. He pushed the two items across the table to the boy, still looking skeptical.

"What's your name?" asked the redhead absently. "Are you in any of the art classes?" He was not quite sure what to make of the blond student in front of him, but so far Katsumi had decided he didn't quite know what another's personal space meant to them - that or he didn't care - and might be just a bit oblivious.

Elias was glad the student seemed to take the rule in stride. Or probably had. That calm answer just didn’t fit the situation. If he’d been as interested as he seemed to be, there should have been protest or at least some sign of annoyance. Maybe a grumble or a frown. And if Elias had completely misread the situation, there should have been embarrassment or protesting or… something. Gray eyes studied the younger male for a moment, then let it go. There was nothing more he could do unless something happened. At least he seemed suitably distracted by the food. Small favors.

He took his own tray and slid it along, looking for something appealing. The salad looked fresh enough. That and a bowl of soup worked nicely. Elias was used to eating things that required no cutting so that he only had to eat with one hand while he worked on a computer. Things that produced a lot of crumbs were frowned on as well. Even though he didn’t have a laptop with him now, old habits die hard.

He turned to look at Haru when the silver haired teacher spoke. He frowned in slight reproof at the uncharitable statement, then let out a breath, acknowledging that he understood, at least partially, what he meant. “He’s a bit… old for his age,” Elias murmured softly. God willing the students would have some kind of influence on that rather than the other way around. Some were a bit too immature for his personal liking. If they could balance each other out, maybe things would sort themselves out without help.

A smile he didn’t meant to let slip slighted his eyes and he ended up smirked at Haru. “Does that come with a pay raise or is it just lip service?” he asked. A hand reached to pet the kitten who was miraculously still balanced on his shoulder. It’s warmth and weight were more comforting than he would have imagined and Elias was suddenly tempted to introduce a little fur ball of his own to his life. Maybe Haru would just let him borrow this one from time to time.

He turned away and scanned the room, taking in the form of one of the other teachers, one currently in discussion with a blonde student Elias remembered from the health office. He was bandaged, but he seemed to be alright. Hopefully he wasn’t being bullied any longer. Elias remembered that he needed to speak to Aizen about controlling that bunch that hung around him or there would be consequences.

He took a seat at the same table as Aoshiza, not quite directly across from him. Eyes strayed to the drawing with a kind of detached interest. Art was not Elias’s forte and he couldn’t have said how much skill such a drawing required, but it was quite good none the less. He didn’t attempt to interrupt, only nodding once to the other educator in greeting.
