                  ʃ ɑ с ҡ . || CITY BOY - SURFER BOY ||

“I prefer to say you are my procession,” he answered with a dismissive wave. His tone and gesture were casual but his lips and eyes said he was pleased at the rebuttal. It wasn’t often you found someone who actually gave as they got. Most rational human beings would have either continued to ignore Jack (something that might have actually managed to eventually drive him away) or responded with heated anger. The second option was usually very fun to watch, but it was always like fireworks, brief and suddenly gone again, replaced with blackness and an ear ache. Kaito’s style was more like… classical music. Some actual thought might have gone into it. It wasn’t within Jack general area of experience, but it certainly kept is attention. He wanted to see if he could jar the notes, make one of the players skip a beat or drop their instrument.

He flashed teeth in a grin when Kaito turned at the sound of the snapping open and shut. If it annoyed him, the other boy was going to be driven mad before the end of the year. It was a habit almost as ingrained in Jack’s subconscious as the craving for the cigarettes themselves. Pens were tapped on the desk and lighters were clicked. He just liked the sharp fast sound. Sometimes one could tell Jack was annoyed by a sudden increase in the tempo, but few actually stuck around him long enough to notice the pattern.

The cafeteria looked in front of them and Jack’s expression went lazy with pleasure. He moved through the throng of students like he expected everyone to move out of his way and for the most part they did. He bumped one or two, barely noticing the sounds of indignation. It wasn’t as though the shock of red hair were hard to miss. He was his own damned neon sign and anyone who didn’t see it coming and move was not his responsibility.

The cafeteria smelled like a combination of disinfectant and French bread, but he didn’t mind. Jack had never had a sensitive stomach, nor a very good sense of smell for that matter. “Don’t forget your veggies, Doc,” he murmured, passing the other boy a tray by poking him in the stomach with it until it was taken. Then he grabbed his own and began to browse, throwing on whatever looked decent.

"You can probably get where I'm coming from...
Yet you can't understand why I'm still smiling...
"

Yukio had walked into the cafeteria with three bruises on his face after the semi-fight he had with the so-called 'disciplinary commitee'. He spotted Jack and the artist boy and walked over to them. "Hey, guys, did you ever fix the door I broke to your room?" He kept the same closed-eyed grin on his face as he sat down next to the blondie

"You can't see that I'm hiding behind this smile

He changed his top then left his room to find the cafeteria.
"hungry" he said quietly as he smelt the food.
Kyle followed after the smell and came upon the entrance of the cafteria. "ah. thats good~ ive found the cafteria right away" Kyle grinned as he went inside. He got a drink and a sandwich.
"looks yummy" he thought smiling as he paid and went to find a seat. "where to sit. Where to sit?" Kyle said as he bit his lip as he looked around for somewhere to sit and eat.

"Naturally. After all we already have a clown do we not?"Kaito responded, his lips quirking further up yet as an actual note of humor entered his otherwise deadpan voice. The teasing quips were intelligent enough to hold his interest as well as being entertaining for the amount of drawled ego all but dripping from the red-head. It was why they were having as close to a conversation as the blue haired artist ever got.

The pair moved into the cafeteria as soon as it came into sight, Kaito's slate blue orbs sweeping those who had already gathered here and noting positions. His head tipping slightly to one side as he took in a pair of males on the opposite side who were either in an argument or about to be. Their body language making his fingers itch to sketch it out, but he'd left his notepad back in the room. Red moved past his vision as the other male started pushing his way through the gathering of people, earning several heated looks for the action. With no more expression than usual he drifted along behind the wake of shoving content not to have to deal with the people himself.

"Yes, mother."He grunted faintly, the action caused by having a school tray shoved unceremoniously into his diaphragm. A briefly rueful look crossed his otherwise placid face. Jack seemed to be rather oblivious to both personal space and any form of respect for an individual. Still his fingers closed around the object, if for no other reason than to keep it from hitting him again, and he moved into the line with a short and flat glare at the person behind him which gave him more room.

Unfortunately, a minute later a familiar seeming white haired male moved up near them while Kaito was dishing up something that might have been potatoes...and began chatting. Why did everyone suddenly seem intent on asking him questions? Ignoring the newest addition as well as he was almost everyone else in the room, the artist finished filling up his plate and moved towards a suitably empty table. He gave no indication of having heard the male, although his question resolved the issue of why he seemed familiar. He'd been the distraction he'd used earlier to try and hide his notebook. Not that it had worked.

The slate haired male sank gracefully into his seat, his back to a wall, and arranged the items from his tray in front of him. Oddly he found his gaze sliding up to see if Jack had followed him before shaking off the instinct and dropping his attention once more to the white mush that he wasn't sure of its true origin.

Kyle found a place to sit.
He slowly walked over, his hair was still covering his bruised cheek, he didnt care about his neck bites.
He placed the tray down and slowly ate as well. His eyes looked around the room to see the students walking around.
Kyle picked up his drink and took a sip. "Theres some pretty cute people here"

Kiyo was quite disappointed at the moment. On his journey throughout the school he had seen a few people here and there. None of them were the least bit interesting to him though. If he was going to befriend someone they had to have something to them. The teenager hated boring, stick in the mud people. He prayed that if he had a roommate that they'd be at least a little cool.

The brunette opened the door to the cafeteria while his stomach let out a small grumble. Kiyo hadn't eaten anything since super early that morning and he had already finished his lollipop. Not finding anything that looked all that appetizing to him, he opted for a simple bottle of water. The male searched the room for a seat. His eyes soon landed on a green haired male. 'He looks interesting...' Kiyo's hatred of sitting alone pulled him over to the seat across from the other teenager. "Mind if I sit here?" He asked the other with a smile.

Kyle looked up the guy looked pretty cute "hm go ahead" he kept his bust up face hidden and went back to eating.
Kyle reached for his drink and took a sip. Normaly he was pretty talkative but if a client got violent he was rather quiet.
He looked up at the guy and started to think "he looks very femenin...but really cute at the same time" he thought as he put the drink down and went back to eating

Kiyo mentally cheered to himself as he sat down. He took a moment to observe the other male before speaking. "So..." Curse the heavens above for making him terrible at starting conversations. Taking a sip of his water, he searched his mind for something to say. "How's your day been so far?" It was a simple, easy question...Or so he thought.

"Mine's been pretty boring and unexciting. What with the lack of intriguing people to hang out with and stuff." He rambled a few seconds after asking the question. The brunette often did that when he didn't know what to talk about. He'd do almost anything to get rid of awkward silences.

Kyle glanced up and his bust lip and bruise was showing "its been fine. Todays my first day" he smiled.
He then thought "why am i being so doom and gloom. Kyle be happy you are a naturally happy person."
Kyle looked up and didnt care about his beat up face "im Kyle by the way" he grinned as he held his hand out.

Kiyo instantly noticed the other male's injury and couldn't help but wonder. "That's cool." He commented, his usual smile still on his face. "It gets better after the first week or so. Trust me. I'm a returning student myself." The teenager informed the other. Hazel eyes widened slightly as the older boy said his name. Kiyo was surprised that he forgot to mention his own name. "Nice to meet you Kyle. I'm Kiyo." He introduced himself while shaking hands with Kyle.

Looking at the other's face made his curiosity grow even more until he spurted out his own thoughts. "What happened to you?" He asked in what seemed liked the most innocent way possible. Finally noticing what he had just said, he became slightly flustered. " Y-You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. If it's too personal or something." His mother had always taught him never to pry too far into people's lives. Especially if you had just met them.

"its a pleasure to meet you Kiyo. Your the first person ive met and the friendlist one as well" he smiled as he looked at him.

he finished his food and drink and placed them to one side "so what dorm are you in. Im in dorm 5" he asked with a friendly look on his face

"Oh, Okay." Kiyo was glad that it wasn't that something terrible had happened to him. He listened to Kyle as he spoke. "Really? That's awesome!" The male was glad that he had finally made a new friend today. A pretty cool one at that too. The small smile on his face soon turned into a grin. " I guess we're roommates then because I'm in dorm 5 also." He said excitedly. Kiyo took yet another sip of his water. The day was just slowly getting better and better.

Kiyo was genuinely looking forward to the school year now. He was sure that it was going to be a blast. "Hm?" Was his first reply when he was asked what time he woke up. "I'm not much of a morning person. I only get up that early if I absolutely have to." He replied to the older boy. "Also, you don't have to worry about waking me up. I sleep through almost anything." Kiyo added after a second of thought.

[[ ooc || Sorry for the late response. Had some errands and fell asleep early. I even missed dinner! –gasp- ]]

Jack slipped the lighter back into his pocket so he had a free hand, continuing to hum that strange little off-key tune under his breath as he moved about the room. He passed over a few baked goods and grabbed a muffin that looked as though it wasn’t entirely stale and a slab of unidentified meat before changing his mind and putting it back. He wasn’t much of a picky eater, but he generally liked to know which half of the animal he was sinking his teeth into before he took bite. Instead he picked up a pre-wrapped sandwich and a bottle of water. That was plenty. Bread was a nice filling food and there was probably something that had once been a vegetable tucked away in the sandwich.

His head turned curiously in the direction of the rather surprising white haired boy. What was his name again? Ah, right… Yukio. The smiler. And just as before, that smile was perfectly in place as he strode closer, as though he were genuinely happy to see Jack and his roommate, which seemed like a completely baffling reaction. Especially since Jack had also seen the boy display much more strength than he would have given him credit for against a couple of bullies. So he wasn’t co-dependent… It was all rather odd.

Hello, Cheshire cat,” he said, thinking of the perpetually smiling Alice in Wonderland character. “Our door is shut, but not exactly fixed.” He picked up the tray and put a hand down on the top of the younger boy’s head firmly, just holding the freshman in place for a moment. “I do believe you owe us until its fixed. You can start now.” He passed his tray to Yukio to carry without a second’s hesitation. In his head, a small switch flicked and Yukio became a new Game, though admittedly a different game than Kaito.

Speaking of his roommate… Jack looked around to see if he could spot the blue haired Kaito. To his surprise and satisfaction, he saw the other briefly look up at him before looking away again. The smirk slid onto his face and he turned, heading off towards the table Kaito had claimed, assuming Yukio would bring the tray along behind him. If not, he’d figure something else out. Something that would probably involve stealing Kaito’s food so that he didn’t have to get up again. After all, he couldn’t be so rude as to ignore what had been practically an invitation from his stoic new aquaintance . As he slid into the seat directly opposite his roommate, Jack raised an eyebrow. “Missed me already? Don’t go all clingy on me now,” he murmured.

"Hello, Cheshire Cat. Our door is shut, but not exactly fixed," replied Jack, obviously teasing him. He hadn't heard that one ever, so he just played along with the nickname. Yukio noticed he suddenly had a load on his arms, realizing that Jack had placed his tray in his arms. "I do believe you owe us until it's fixed. You can start now."

"..." Yukio kept his closed-eyed grin and debated in his head whether he should retaliate, or obey. Sadly...He chose to obey. "All right, I guess that's fair."

He took the tray and followed him like a servant would. It was always a weird habit of his to obey every command of a person, excluding rhetorical phrases. He was so used to be given orders, that he's been used as a servant in so many different ways. In his mind he imagined himself declining politely to him, but in reality, he was acting as a butler. Yukio followed him to his table and waited for him to be seated before setting Jack's tray down.

Kaito lifted a forkful of the white food that may or may not have been potatoes, a slight frown on his otherwise expressionless face. It could easily have been because he was about to eat something of questionable origin or because he'd been caught glancing up at his new room mate. It wasn't like him to show any form of interest nor had he really ever eaten something so...off.

The seat across from him was claimed just as he decided to chance the food and consumed the stuff off the fork, catching further movement from the edge of his vision he shifted his head enough to catch sight of the red-head and the white haired male that was following him with a tray. His own eyebrow rose as he finished swallowing, noting that there wasn't enough flavour to even help him identify what he'd just eaten. He made a mental note to avoid the potatoes in the future.

"I was breathless with anticipation of our next meeting, but I'll try and contain my enthusiasm. I would hate to be one of THOSE women."The blue haired artist drawled, taking another bite and shifting his gaze just slightly towards the other boy that was hovering behind Jack in a manner that reminded Kaito of his father's personal assistant. "Still exploring the wildlife, Attenborough?"he asked archly as he continued eating, his gaze sliding away and sweeping the room with a sort of bored disinterest. Although he was picking up a few things that would likely manifest in his drawings later.

Jack accepted his tray back with only a small nod of acknowledgement, though he did shift his foot a bit to the side, hooking his foot around the legs of the chair and pushing it out a few inches for the white haired male. It wasn’t exactly an invitation and the attitude was more than of a command, but it was as close as Yukio was going to get. Jack was in a wonderful mood to have even done that much. He picked up the muffin and tore a small piece off, popping it in his mouth. He’d gotten lucky. It was actually very good. Granted, his pallet consisted mostly of ‘what’s cheapest today’, but the confectionary treat was still soft and was blueberry flavored. He didn’t demand more from something a basic as food.

He blinked in silent surprise at what was probably the longest he’d ever heard Kaito speak uninterrupted. Two actual connected sentences, followed a short pause later by a third. My my, such progress so quickly. The next thing he knew his roommate would be giving dissertations in the front of a lecture hall. “Don’t let it trouble you,“ he said when he’d swallowed, mutilating his meal as he continued to tear ragged bits off and slip them between his lips. “It’s a common effect I have. I believe you can find a support group online.”

His eyes followed Kaito’s towards Yukio and he grinned wolfishly. “Meet Yukio. He’s our new servant as payment for breaking down the door.” Never mind that the school would be the one to have to pay to actually fix the door and that Jack didn’t give a damn about security. If Yukio agreed to it, it was well within Jack’s right to take advantage of it. Moral obligation? What was that?

"Still exploring the wildlife, Attenborough?" asked the boy with dark hair. He seemed rather annoyed by Yukio's presence...or so it seemed to him. Yukio's head tilted as he placed Jack's tray onto the table, and sat in the seat that he thought was being pulled up for him. As he sat, he gave the boy the smile he's been giving to people all day. "I take it I remind you of someone you know?" he asked.

He was starting to take out his lunch, which was in a rather large bento box, when he heard Jack said, "Meet Yukio. He’s our new servant as payment for breaking down the door." He was sliightly offended and was tempted to shift the blame onto the two guys who first picked a fight with him, but decided they had been punished enough.

"It seems only fair since I was the one who let your door break in order to defend myself from a fatal blow..." he said, opening his black eyes, smiling still. Whenever his eyes were opened he looked a little bit like a cute sort of tired ditz. "I'm sorry for making you guys lose your door of security..."

Kaito sighed softly before taking a bite of his potatoes when he saw the chair slide out slightly in a silent invitation for the white haired boy to take a seat with them. An invitation that was accepted as the third male sat and pulled out his own lunch. Returning his slate blue eyes towards Jack he swallowed and lifted his drink, pausing with it just in front of his lips.

"I'll join immediately."was his caustic response before taking a drink and fixing an empty stare on the pale haired male.

"A stray?"he drawled an answer that lilted at the end into a question, his tone flat as his expression when he was asked if the white haired male reminded him of someone. Thanks to his back ground he accepted the male's taking a position as a servant and mentally shifted him into that niche and thus put him out of his mind despite his still being there. It was a different level than he usually treated humans around them. An almost acceptance while still being far beneath his notice.

"Have him report it to the office."Kaito shrugged not worried that anyone would come into their room regardless of the doors state, returning his attention back to his food as he attempted to finish off the potatoes in order to move on to the next portion which was actually recognizable. Green beans were almost impossible to ruin, so he had some faith in their taste.

Jack grinned, watching the other two for a moment. They weren’t quite opposites, but they were definitely spread far across the personality spectrum. The only thing he could definitely note in common was a quiet personality, though Yukio’s seemed gentler while Kaito’s stemmed from a colder source. Or maybe he was wrong. A person’s complete personality, all the little buttons that made them think and act certain ways, was immense. With the more boring subjects it would be predictable enough that you didn’t actually have to find every button to direct someone’s movements, but when they were interesting, it was so much fun to mess with the controls.

Part of him couldn’t believe Yukio had accepted the place of their servant so easily. No rational person would do so, let alone a teenage boy. He’d seen strength there, at least briefly. The white haired male’s quiet acceptance of Jack’s pronouncement did not fit with that. After all, it was a form of bullying, albeit a more subtle kind than shoving someone against a wall and demanding their lunch money. Was he an idiot? When he opened his eyes he certainly looked like one, but something about it felt off. The smirk on Jack’s lips turned contemplative as he tried to adjust mental gears, looking for categories that he could drop Yukio into. It was trickier than he would have thought.

But whether it made sense or not, Yukio had accepted it, both by word and action. And when that happened Jack’s mental stamp came out and stamped ‘mine’ straight across the younger boy’s face. If he saw bullying again, he would probably light someone on fire.

His smirk switched to a pout as he turned to Kaito. “Don’t be heartless,” he drawled. “Giving someone the opportunity to work off a debt personally is good for the soul, Doc. You really shouldn’t be such a cruel person.” He picked up his fork and reached across the table to stab a few of the green beans on Kaito’s plate, trying them. Hmmm. Not horrible, which meant they’d probably hadn’t come from a can. A relief. He chewed, considering stealing another bite.

He changed his mind at the last second, picking the still wrapped sandwich as he stood up. He drew himself to his full height and his fingers lightly touched the small rectangular box outlined against his pocket. He pulled out the lighter and clicked it once, looking for a side exit. “Be good kids,” he murmured with a wink, leaving the tray for someone else to deal with. The door slammed shut behind him as he headed out into the light, leaning against the side wall of the building.

"Hn."The artist shrugged slightly, it wasn't cruel to speak the truth and given the boy seemed to be following them like a lost puppy, a stray was an apt description. However, he didn't care what friends Jack wanted to keep. So long as Kaito wasn't annoyed by him, at least this one was quite which was more than he could say about their current roommate.

A fork moved across the table and speared a chunk of the green beans from his plate, drawing slate blue eyes up from their contemplation of the potatoes and across the way to the amethyst eyed male who had stolen them and was currently eating them. An eyebrow arched before Kaito returned the favour with a bit of the left over pastry. It actually tasted of something he could recognize, blueberry, and he made a note to grab one during his next meal as he chewed it.

Jack stood abruptly, taking his still wrapped sandwich with him, and traced something in his pocket before telling them to be good. Finishing his bite, Kaito picked up his own drink again with a bored expression.

"Yes, mother."he drawled, although it wasn't a problem. Yukio had fallen into a very specific niche in Kaito's world views and as such was actually quite safe from him. It would also mean that the white haired boy wouldn't find himself facing a frigid stare for remaining at the table after his welcome was over, which was normally very fast. He took a quick drink and set it down while his other hand was spearing a few of the beans left for himself. Almost as soon as the red-head left the table the blue orbs emptied out again and Kaito concentrated on eating his lunch and ignoring the world in general. He already was forming the picture he wanted to sketch of the earlier fight, but once that was done he wanted to try and paint the full color of that dresser...

                                [[ ooc || Hooray! *feels loved* ]]

Jack wasn’t gone long. Though he probably wouldn’t have admitted it out loud, he didn’t care much for being alone. Not during the day at least. Sometimes at night, when it was cool and dark, then it would feel right to find a quiet spot alone. At home he’d been called ‘Firefly’ by a couple of people who were almost close, given for the way he sometimes liked to stand in the dark so that only the burning end of the cigarette was visible, blinking in and out from time to time like the insect. But during the day… No. It just didn’t work.

Not that it was hard to imagine why he didn’t like to be alone. A creature of headgames doesn’t like to only have his own mind to play with.

So he allowed himself maybe five or ten minutes to sate the cravings, head tilted back and leaving a bit of dirt in the red strands from where they touched the unwashed building. He cleared his throat and tucked the pack away, slipping the lighter in after a few clicks of the lid. He used the same side entrance and grabbed a new bottle of water before finding the table again. The unmistakable scent of the drug’s smoke still clinging to him. He barely noticed, but when he did he found it a comforting smell rather than an offensive one as most people did.

He sat on the edge of the chair he’d occupied before as though he hadn’t quite decided to stay. “God, Doc, you talk so much I could hear you all the way outside. Don’t you ever shut up?” he said casually.

The blue haired artist hadn't spoken further to the other male at the table as he continued to eat the food he'd collected on his plate. It was nice to finally have someone that wasn't immediately interested in filling the air with chatter and he was quickly able to finish his meal and drink.

He didn't move his attention from the task at hand until the sharp smell caught his attention and he automatically lifted his head and scanned the room, only to spot the red-head as he once more dropped into place across from him. Kaito tipped his head slightly, realizing he'd picked up the smell earlier it simply hadn't been this strong.

"I know, horrible isn't it, I simply can't control myself."he responded, the edges of his lips lifting into a partial quirk as he pushed back away from the table in a smooth movement and snagged his tray as he did so. He snagged the earlier abandoned tray in passing from in front of Jack and crossed the room to drop both into the space near the back wall that supposedly lead to the kitchen. That done, he ran a hand through his hair and drifted back towards the others, although the why of this wasn't something he thought about.

At least he didn't until he came to a stop, leaning against the table, and realized he'd just come back. There wasn't a purpose to it, it wasn't as if he was gaining anything from this conversation. A faint frown pulled across his expression before it fell blank once more. Shaking his head slightly, a move that caused his bangs to shadow his eyes, he pushed back off the table without saying a word and started walking for the door. He did NOT need to sit and have a conversation, the fact he even thought about it was something that had darkened his orbs slightly as he chewed mentally over the problem.

Jack gave a nod, expression serious. “I forgive your flaw, but only because you’re almost as pretty as I am,” he said magnanimously. Then the smirked slid up the side of his lips, the serious expression unable to stay for long. He unconsciously tugged a bit at the collar of his shirt again even though the top few buttons had long since been undone, ruining the sense of formality that had doubtless been attempted by forcing the boy into the shirt.

He leaned back a little bit when Kaito picked up his tray for him and got rid of it. That was… unexpected. He had no idea why Kaito had done something that could be called a favor. Without even being asked. And for Jack. Actual surprise crossed his features, pale violet eyes widening almost imperceptibly as he watched his roommate dump the trays without a word of explanation or even sarcasm to cover the deed. If that hadn’t been enough, Kaito came back. Jack naturally expected him to say something and he watched the other boy, noting with interest the way he seemed only then to realize what he’d done.

Jack grinned. When Kaito stood, he did to, exactly as if the blue haired male had spoken and invited him. He looked back at Yukio and smiled faintly. Yukio was invited of course, though he’d have to figure out that much for himself. And technically Yukio hadn’t eaten yet so he might take a while to catch up. Yukio was automatically invited because he was their servant and Jack hadn’t finished playing with that yet.

He walked as he had before, though perhaps not quite as far back this time, just a step or so behind and a little to the side, following Kaito out. His stride shifted the moment they left the building, adopting that subtle swagger that was confident to the point of arrogance, lids narrowed to almost slits as he watched the world, scanning the people around them on reflex.

“Doc, where are you from?” he asked after a few rare moments of silence, looking mildly curious.

For the second time that day the pair headed towards the cafeteria. The blue haired male as expressionless as ever with his hands lightly resting in the pockets of his school pants while empty blue eyes watched ahead of him. Although he wasn't seeing very much, just enough to avoid walking into something or someone. His mind was on entirely different things.

The first was still that Jack still seemed annoyed with his plan. Given there wasn't an option that guaranteed the level of success he was after, it may just be he'd have to set up things on his end instead of the red-heads and settle for having a permanently pissed off roommate. It was better than loosing him. Which was still an odd thought to the artist.

The second was locked on composing his mental list of replacement sponsors. Kaito couldn't pull any of his own money in order to finance it because of his father, but there were still a number off other people in California with the income to cover it and no connection to the Sorazorashii family. He wanted to narrow his list down to about five candidates and then make sure there wasn't anything in their history that would cause an issue.

It was because of these two items working themselves out in his mind that he remained as silent as he did. The presence of other students moving around them occasionally also assisted, but that manifested more in the return of his emptiness. It might have helped a little that he was still unsure of what exactly to do with his recent development. Being unsure wasn't something that happened often to the Tigiren Heir, but he also had never been quite as emotional or even attached as he'd grown to the red-head at his side. It was a troubling development that he also seemed to be at once perfectly at peace with. This he did not approve of.

Jack covered a yawn as they walked. This early and he was already tired, though to be fair his body had a decent excuse. He’d gotten a decent workout on the roof and the past few days before arrival were a blur of airports and bad food and flight attendants with smiles large enough to bite someone’s head off. He remembered falling asleep for little bits at a time on the plane and was pretty sure he’d dozed off once or twice in the cab from the airport to the school, but all in all it didn’t add up to much. He had a feeling he was going to sleep like the dead once he decided to let himself go.

Kaito was doing his mime impression and Jack decided not to press. He didn’t really have anything to say yet anyway. The boy’s mind was surging through varying levels of mush thanks to sleep deprivation, a new bout of interest in his roommate, trying to decipher this odd new world his subject of interested lived in, and the headache trying to think more than a day in advance always gave him. Jack was not a chess player. He could not wrap his mind around strategy and rarely though about what he was doing now, let alone what moves he would make in the future. The temptation to leave the planning to Kaito was only challenged by his pride, but that was a sizable obstacle.

Pushing into the cafeteria, he again grabbed a tray and poked Kaito in the stomach with it until he took it before grabbing his own and heading down the line. He eyed something that was probably meat and skipped ahead to the chili instead. Remembering the success of the muffin he’d had before, he snagged another one that was speckled with blueberries, adding a little butter packet to the plate. His head insisted on something cool and he found some sliced melon, spooning it into a bowl separate from the chili.

This and a bottle of water he dropped onto a table near the back of the room. Without looking, he hooked his foot around the chair next to him and shoved it out a foot or so in silent invitation. He remembered that shower he’d skipped in favor of following Kaito to the nurse’s office and decided it was going to become first priority very soon.

Content with the quiet, Kaito did nothing to interject conversation into the moment as they made it to the cafeteria once more. It was slightly less crowded than it had been previously, which worked for the artist as he shifted slightly to avoid touching someone coming the other direction and caught sight of his room mates yawn.

Slate blue orbs shifted towards the large windows lining the room in an automatic time check and noticed that while weaker the sun was still bathing the world in a faint warm glow. As soon as he realized he was actually thinking about how that worried him as the red-head shouldn't be tired he shut down the line of thought with a steel trap. Possessive over something like Senator Hormel he could handle, that was a serious threat and a challenge for himself. When he started worrying about someone's sleeping habits there was an issue. It suggested a level of attachment that Kaito was still shying away from.

So he did his best to ignore the moment by accepting the tray shoved in his direction with a sense of deja vu. Shifting the plastic object to the correct direction he moved down the line behind his room mate and started picking out foods that looked slightly more edible than the potatoes from earlier. Like Jack he took one look at the meat and decided to be safe and stayed clear. So his plate was mostly recognizable vegetables by the time he was done. A few fruits, and thankfully, rice. A silent addiction to the white grains was never to be admitted to but easy to observe at any place that served it often enough.

taking his now full tray he crossed to the table Jack had claimed and accepted the invitation of the pushed out chair. Setting his tray down he sank into position with little ceremony. Sliding a quick scan of the students present and the groups they were already forming before dropping to the beans he'd once again acquired and picking up a fork to see if they were as edible the second time around.

Jack hadn’t even realized he’d tensed until Kaito took the offered seat and sat down next to him. Part of him was obviously still expecting Kaito to find a seat alone, somewhere not at Jack’s table. Sitting down first to see if the other boy would follow wasn’t exactly a test, it was more a measuring stick. He just wanted to see what would happen, see for himself if Kaito decided to sit with him or wander off the moment Jack wasn’t right there. After all, most of their time together had not been Kaito’s idea. It had been Jack either insisting on Kaito accompanying him or outright following the blue haired boy.

Jack had no idea what he wanted. Kaito, obviously, but his thoughts refused to get more specific. He propped an elbow up on the table as he ate, the hand to his forehead in a light support. His head was ducked, hiding his eyes from a sun that was sinking low enough to come directly in the windows now, blinding half the students facing towards the west windows.

He finished off the small bowl of chili in tired silence, letting the spoon clatter into the dish once it was empty. Lithe fingers found the muffin and tore pieces off of it to eat, movements a bit sluggish, a bit slower. But he was comfortable despite the hard chair and bright light. He tilted his head a bit towards Kaito, cheek now resting on the back of his hand.

“You get blue hair from your mom or your dad?” he asked, speaking the words the moment the question came into his head. His eyes traced the strands and remembered they were soft and silky when touched. If he’d been a bit more awake, he might have tried again. But sleepy as he was, his movements had slowed to the point where he could sometimes think before he acted. His mind was saying playing with Kaito’s hair was a bit too intimate an action to be done in the cafeteria. And if Kaito made that face again, Jack would kiss him and Kaito would probably end up pissed. And a pissed Kaito might be smart enough to steal the shower before Jack got to it.

So he kept his hands to himself, violet eyes watching the other expectantly.

Without realizing he was doing it, Kaito frowned slightly. A small crack in the otherwise emotionless boy, something no one would notice unless looking for a shift. It was caused by the shift in movement coming from his roommate. As well as the fact that he had been watching him from the corner of his eye as he ate through the green beans on his plate.

He'd had several hours and different situations to become familiar with the way the red-head moved. It was something he usually did with anyone near him simply because a person was amazingly easy to read once you learned to recognize their body motions. Jack moved with sure, easy movements. No real economy to his energy, just an out and out attack on everything whether he realized it or not. That was gone at the moment, replaced with a sluggishness that was drawing out the faint frown on the artists face.

He wasn't expecting the question when it came, although he should have been. His room mate didn't seem as comfortable with extended silences as he was, which only pointed towards the slowing he was seeing in his actions. Finishing the bite he'd just taken he turned his head slightly to meet the amethyst eyes watching him and blinked slightly. A faint hint of color rising to his cheeks before he dropped his head to stare at the plate. Using the blue hair to hide his eyes. All because the way he was watching him had reminded him of earlier. He really shouldn't be reacting this easily to a simple stare.

"My father. I look almost nothing like my mother."he answered, his tone staying deadpan enough that it could have been imagined, his faint blush. His mother actually had a light teal colored hair, similar to his sister and pale, pale blue eyes. His sister had gotten the darker eyes of their father but otherwise was the same petite match for his mother. Both were quite pretty, if you could get past the fact that there was almost nothing left of his mother's personality and his sisters was acidic enough to eat through concrete.

"What about your family?"He once more found his mouth moving without impute from his brain. Why did he keep actually adding to conversations? Why did some part of him actually care so much about Jack's family and Jack in particular? And why was it still bothering him how tired the red-head looked? He ate a bite of the rice to give his mouth something to do other than keep speaking without his permission.

Jack didn’t know what he’d done to earn that rose color on the pale face in front of him. The question had been idle, not terribly personal or even important. Kaito had never responded that way to casual interest before. Wine colored eyes settled on the faint hints of pink he could see through the strands of dark hair that partially covered Kaito’s face at that angle. That boy really needed to stop looking so cute if Jack was going to have some hope of hanging onto his self control.

Because really, he was only holding out for Kaito’s sake. Or rather, for the sake of not pissing Kaito off. Jack himself would not have minded people seeing. He liked attention, was comfortable with having the eyes of the people around him be drawn to his words. He said and did deliberately inflammatory things just to stir up trouble. Stealing a kiss from his roommate was exactly the kind of thing Jack would have done if he’d been bored or tempted enough. And the blush was pushing him straight into the second of those options.

Someday though, he was going to find a way to convince Kaito to kiss him. A devious grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. Eyes deliberately traced the other boy’s lips before moving back to the hair in question. Hmm. Did that mean Kaito’s father would be an prediction of what Kaito would grow up to be? The idea of possibly being attracted to Kaito’s father when he met him made Jack choke a bit on a piece of melon. He cleared his throat and shot a brief ‘don’t ask’ look at Kaito.

“One of my brothers has red hair, but for the most part it seems recessive on my mother’s side,” Jack said. “My parents are brunettes. One of my little brothers is almost a blonde in the summer. No blue though,” he added, giving into just enough of the lure Kaito presented to touch one of the bangs framing Kaito’s face. Then he let his hand drop and returned to his food as innocently as he could.
