The struggle through the vines was not particularly pleasant. The girl even attempted to pull some of them down, but to no avail. Whoever had built this place had used sturdy vines and industrial staples in order to create the jungle gym room. She managed to make it through to the other side, but Calintha had also managed to drop the sheet in the process. The damn slippery thing was ALWAYS dropping, and this time she didn't feel like picking it up.

On the other side, Calintha leaned against the wall to catch her breath and calm down. The girl also picked up her sword, which she'd slid along the floor beside her so it wouldn't get caught somewhere. "Man, that was tough. How'd you fare?" She turned around and looked for Ladon. They'd gone through it together, considering the room had been wide enough to do so.

She tried really hard to tune out the beeping. The beeping was very, very annoying. Beeeeeep. She sighed and surveyed their options. "I think we should go straight?"

It would have been good if there weapons had been real and not made of foam, making them completely useless against the vines if not more bothersome. While pushing their way through, their limbs tangled their legs caught on lower vines, and it came to the point that he worried he might just hang himself on accident. The flashlight was dropped somewhere, but twisted up after a rather difficult bundle, they hadn’t bothered to go after it. They were out of the darkness anyways, and they needed their hands free. After a while, the curtain unraveled itself and that too as left on the path, making the route harder for anyone else who might come this way in the future.

It was a relief to finally step out, Ladon hoping twice to free his one leg and then yanking a vine off his weapon. It was surprising he still had the thing as it had caught and stuck several times, but even if with the weapon beeping at him, possibly telling at him that there was no point in playing the game now that he had lost, he didn’t feel safe without it. After all this way, dropping his weapon would really feel like quitting and until someone officially said he had lost, he was going to continue.

“Well that was fun.” He pointed out, reaching over to pick off a small vine from Calintha’s shoulder and tossing it to the ground. Looking around, their options were pretty much the same as before, and while they were limited, he knew he was NOT going back through the vines again if he could help it. “I'm good with going straight. Maybe we’ll actually get lucky and just have a nice path to follow.” That or they would face something more annoying, more scary, more troublesome than anything they faced before. He as hoping for the nice path, and headed straight with his adventure buddy.

Will This Lead us to a Hidden Box? – Calintha, Ladon
As you cross the room, something nags at you. This room... is it familiar? Nah, it can't be – given the repetitive decorations, you think you must be imagining things.

The room you have entered looks exactly like the previous room: the walls are covered with wallpaper that makes it look like a forest, and there's piles of dirt and bushes scattered here and there to bring the outdoors indoors. What sets this room apart from the others is the large gate blocking your way. The gate also has a large lock with some tumblers on it, beneath a large sign that reads:

Gatekeeper of Here,
He who guards but is was outside,
Has what throne color?

The strike-out on the sign looks as if it was made rather recently. The lock beneath it has letters on its tumblers instead of numbers. Now if only your weapons would shut up long enough to actually think and try to remember...

Crack the Code: Input a color; bold your selection. (ie, Soandso twisted the lock's tumblers until it read chartreuse.)

Leave it alone.

??? - ???

Somewhere, something has found something. It quite likes what it found, picking it up and turning it this way and that. If anyone was around to hear it, it was currently making an odd sound. To it, it sounded like happiness. To someone else, it sounded anything but.

It wasn't in any hurry to go anywhere, but something caused its attention to be pulled away. Whatever it was looked up, stopping its sound of happiness in order to scurry off and do... something.

Calintha was glad that the next room didn't seem to hold any nasty surprises. It was a little familiar though, like she'd seen it somewhere before. Unfortunately the constant beep seemed to enter her mind at that point, removing any hope of figuring out the similarities. The room after that was exactly like the first, save for the large gate in the middle.

Walking up to the lock, Calintha examined it. There were a weird set of tumblers on it. She noticed the sign after looking at the lock mechanism for a few seconds. "What was his throne color?" It seemed like a strange question. She held the sign in her hands while she pondered it out.

"Well, thrones are normally made of gold." Beep beep beep. Calintha tried to block the noise out of her thought process, but it was difficult. "But this place is pretty low budget, so I doubt it would be actual gold. Maybe a color like it?"

Thought process was taking long because of- beeep beeep beeep- the noise. The noise, the dumb, dumb noise. She would shake her sword if the girl had thought it would do any good (Calintha was afraid of making it worse). "Yellow...orange, brown, red. Those are all associated with gold."

The blonde girl knelt down to examine the tumblers more, figuring out how they worked. "Hey, didn't the ticket taker in the beginning have a yellow chair?" It had seemed so out of place then, like a kid's chair that they had bought or something. And there really wasn't any other yellow in the place. Calintha decided to try and break the code, twisting around the tumblers until it spelled out a very clear yellow.

Calintha stepped back a bit, unsure what would happen, if anything at all.

The room was familiar, which could either be a good or bad thing. Good in that there didn’t seem to be anything new to throw them off, but it could be a trap. That would be bad, and he really didn’t want to be dropping from any floors or being hit by any decorations or fighting cardboard at the moment. In fact, he wondered how well everyone else was doing, because he felt like he was getting the short end of this experience with falling and being smacked around. He could still feel where a bump was forming on his noggin from the first surprise since entering this building.

While walking in, he guessed they were being given a breather, and instead tried to wrap his hands around his weapon and trying ot find where the beeping noise was coming from on the handle to muffle it somehow. It had been beeping since the drop and it was really not helping their situation at all. Now they had to sole riddling with the noise? He couldn’t even stand reading when there was music playing, let alone the little bleeps going off every 2 minutes.

They read it out loud, and then started to brainstorm. “Thrones. Thrones. Thrones. Yeah, they are usually gold, but I didn’t see any chairs around here.” Only tables. What if they missed a room? Calintha seemed more on the right track than he was, and was moving on as he was still hung up on thrones. Chairs. Gates. There hadn’t been any gates they passed. Now if they mentioned a curtain, he could answer that.

Calintha was moving on, and landed on the guy outside of the building. Well, made sense. The guy was guarding here, which was this building. He also remembered the chair. “Yeah, it was yellow. Cheap too, but that just goes with everything else.” A shrub nearby looked ready to fall over. “Go for it.” He walked with her and watched her enter yellow, deciding if that didn’t work, he might just twist in the color gold instead.

All Locked up with Locks? - Calintha, Ladon
Y-E-L-L-O-W. As soon as you twist the last letter into place, the gate stwings open on its squeaky hinges. You proceed onwards, leaving the gate open behind you.

Continue...

??? - ???

Is it here? No. It is confused, shuffling around. It appears to be looking for something, and the flashlight it clutched wasn't it. It was close, though.

Something causes it to stop and listen. It pauses, seeming to consider something before darting off again.

And Buried Deep Away -- Calintha, Ladon
You approach a gate much like the last one. It's pretty exciting -- gates are supposed to block your way, right? Does this mean you're getting close to the end?! You are eager to read the sign, though is it just your imagination or did the beeping of the weapons just get louder? Either way, the sign reads:

Not the second but
What trap was the first? Which one
of these three were you?

Beneath the sign is a large lock. On the wall are three keys, each with a small picture. One depicts a monster, another a ghost, and the last is blank.

Use the key with the monster.
Use the key with the ghost.
Use the blank key.

You stare at the keys, attempting to make sense of them before you hear a soft 'click.' You turn to face the other wall, where several more keys hang:

Use the key with a plant.
Use the key with the bridge.
Use the key with the frog.

It worked! Ladon beamed over at Calintha. “Wow. Good thing you’re smart.” He would have failed if he had to choose, and who knew what punishment was given being wrong. Trap doors. Falling foam boulders. At least it wasn’t making their weapons louder. They were already at ear-bleeding high as it was, and he shook his axe, hoping he could break whatever was inside of it that made that noise. Nothing worked, and he wished they had the curtain again just to stuff their weapons inside and muffle the noise. They just had to put up with it for now.

Moving on, they met – Another gate?! “Ahh. I hope this means we’re getting close to the end. If we just keep hitting gates, that’s going to get old.” That and he really didn’t think that they would get lucky every time. While he read a lot of fantasy stories, all the riddles were ones you heard all the time. They didn’t seem to be drawing out their riddles from the overdone hat.

For their sake, he read the next riddle out loud and then walked over, picking up the keys before another set jiggled further off. “Here.” He handed off the first set of keys to Calintha and then went over to get the second set, coming back and looking at the riddle and then at the keys. “The first trap here?” He looked at the keys. “Well, the monster was before the bridge, so the bridge is out. A frog and a plant? I didn’t meet any of those.” What if those were the first. “No…we didn’t split up until after the cardboard monster…right?”

He didn’t think they spotted a frog or a plant before that point since they had been all together at that time from the very start. He reached up, running a hand through his hair as he thought, his fingers passing the bum on the back. Stupid decoration.

“Ah!” He dropped his hand, looking at it before looking at her. “I was hit before the cardboard monster. Remember. The trap on top of the ceiling before the cardboard monster came out. That has to be the first trap.” He looked at the keys, trying to remember what the decoration had been. A bat? No…it was something else….uh… “The ghost. It was a ghost decoration. I know that much.” He was the only person the stupid thing hit.

“I’m going to try this one.” He paused. “Um, In advance, I’m sorry if it doesn’t work.” Just in case she got angry that he wasn’t as smart. He went over, grabbed the lock and used the ghost key before turning.

Calintha blushed a little bit when he called her smart. It wasn't something she'd heard everyday and it made her feel nice. She followed Ladon through the gate, trying desperately to tune out the weapons. They had even seemed to gotten louder, if that was possible. It was absolutely LAME. Apparently, the boy with her thought so too. Had his beeping stopped with shaking, Calintha wouldn't have been far behind in trying the same thing.

"Yea, I didn't see a frog or a plant either..." Ladon's reasoning made sense. The first trap she had run into had been the ghost that had assaulted their little group. Calintha couldn't help but let a little giggle escape, remembering how Ladon was the only one that got bopped by the Halloween decoration. "Its alright even if it doesn't work!" It was worth a try, after all, and the girl didn't have any better answers then he did. So she watched him try the ghost key, waiting eagerly to see if it worked.

We'll Dig up the Box! - Ladon, Calintha
You try the ghost key. It doesn't work.

We know it's full of Precious Booty! - Ladon, Calintha
You realize that the beeping has stopped.

In fact, the beeping has been replaced. There is a long, drawn-out beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep akin to a flat-line on a monitor. Or at least, what sounds like one. Funny, it's a lot more annoying in person than on the drama television.

Burst open the locks! - Ladon, Calintha
As you contemplate this turn of events, you hear a shuffling sound. You turn, and there's a... creature for lack of a better word standing there. It looks like whoever created this place did have some costumes lying around, as the person seems to be dressed up in some sort of lizard-like costume. The detail work is amazing! From the scales to the fake blood, it's...
...
wait. There is a coppery tinge to the air. Blood? It's real blood?! The monster shifts the flashlight in its hand as it takes a step forward, pausing to rip the gate out of the wall. The gate was installed at least three inches in -- your eyes bulge at the length that was driven into the wall. The gate was there for a reason, and that reason seems to have been to keep that out!

And then we'll say -- KSJDFKSDFLK GET IN THE CAR. - Ladon, Calintha
What'll you do, what'll you do?! You back away from the creature, and feel the gate shift and bend beneath you. That's it! This one wasn't installed correctly! Both of you push against the gate as the creature takes a step, then another step towards you. It reaches out with a scaley hand, the tips of it covered in the crimson liquid.

The gate crashes behind you! The lizard-like being hisses in confusion and lunges, but the both of you react quickly and throw your weapons at it. You scramble to your feet and flee, hopping over a small picket-fence and ignoring the bright yellow sign hanging upon it in favor of the glorious door that is before you!

FREEDOM! Glorious free- Ladon, Calintha
You burst out of the door and collide into the iron rail there. You are quick to recover, and are nearly shoving the other out of the way as you clamber down the fire escape. Finally, you make it to the ground. There doesn't seem to be any signs of pursuit. You allow yourself a chance to breathe. Whew! That was close!

Or was it? You look around, and suddenly realize that you have no idea where you are. You explore the area a bit, but can't find the store front anywhere, or any signs indicating where 'Tanglewood Halls' is. Did they clean up the area when you guys disappeared into it? Or...

You can't help but to wonder if you just ran out the emergency exit. Well, so much for the prize money... at least you didn't spend the day bored, sitting around the house with nothing to do?

Game Over -- Thank you for playing!

Peyton, it's all up to you now!
