The Entrance Hall -- Calintha, Alessa, Peyton, Liliana, Landon At the appointed time and day, you follow the directions printed in small letters on the back of your ticket to Tanglewood. The building itself is unremarkable -- if anything, someone simply bought a small hole in the wall store and placed tarp over the windows from the inside, preventing sunlight of any sort to get in. An attendant was waiting outside the door on a bright ????????????? plastic chair, taking time only to glance at the ticket before ushering you inside. It takes your eyes a moment to adjust to the dark room. The walls have been covered with a wallpaper to give it the illusion of a forest, however the dim, flickering bare lightbubs that dangle like ill-placed bee hives break the illusion. The crackling, low-quality sound effects of birds chirping and water gurgling add atmosphere to the place like a so-called "scary" Halloween track at a haunted house. From where you stand, you can see two noticible directions to take. Which way will you go? Take the left hallway. Take the right hallway. Exit out the door you came in -- this place isn't worth your time!---OOC--Quick reminders: You have 24 hours after each prompt to post. If everyone has made a post, the game will advance. There is no posting order. BOLD your choice. You may observe that the, ah, invitation you received contains typos. This is a hint for the complete and utter cheapness that lies ahead of you. Enjoy. biggrin

It had to be the saddest excuse of a invitation that he had ever seen, failing in comparison to the lovely flier he got when the Singles' Event happened. No elegant script, nicely raised borders, or even proper spelling! If he hadn’t been bored, he would have tossed the invite along with the other junk mail. Even saying he was a winner right off the bat made him roll his eyes. Another Publishers Clearing House wanting to pull him in. It was lucky that he was eating cereal that morning and there had been nothing to read at the back of the box. Looking for material, he started to turn the invite about, reading the list of how he was lucky to be chosen and how the prize at the end was almost guaranteed to him if he bothered to participate. The prize however wasn’t mentioned, and he wondered if this was a way to pull people in for the mystery prize or if someone failed to print out the invites properly.
Either way, he started to think about what it could be, and like a moron being pulled in by a email scam saying he had a British relative that died, he was actually considering going. It was in town, and he already knew he wasn’t about to give them any personal information. If he found himself walking into a seminar about changing your life through believing, he’d just walk out. Hell, he could go for a cheap thrill, and by the looks of the invite, it really would be cheap.
He wasn’t mistaken. Upon seeing the building, he was tempted to turn right back around. It had that same shady quality that white vans had. Remembering the talk about Barren Pines in the news, he wasn’t sure he wanted to risk loosing a kidney. Lifting up the invite, he weighed the possibilities. Mysterious prize and a bit of fun, or waking up the next day in a tub of ice. Well, if anyone bothered him, he could just changing into Wolframite.
As he stepped forward, he handed the man his invite, who looked it over and gestured for him to go in. Wondering if there was a group of men waiting to tackle him inside, he prepared to change. Instead, he stepped into a really ugly room with horrible sound effects. The type of tape you buy for relaxation out of the dollar bin. At least there wasn’t someone holding a burlap bag and some rope. Feeling better, he looked around. Nothing but two hallways, and no signs that either one was the way he was suppose to go. So using the best process he could go by, he started to sing. “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe..” By the time he finished Y-O-U, he was pointing at the right, and he headed down the hallway.

Peyton didn't usually receive any mail.
She wasn't even sure it had arrived in the mail, she'd just found it there on the side table, her name printed clearly on the front. Neither of her parents had known anything about it, it seemed almost as if it had mysteriously appeared without any warning. Turning it over, she'd discovered that apparently she was a winner, without having done anything. It intrigued the slightly naive girl, and she couldn't help but go along. The cheapness of the invite hadn't gone unnoticed by the teen, but she'd figured it was just lack of funding or...something. After all, not everyone could afford...everything. Yeah, sure.
Her invite was checked by a somewhat strange man, Peyton already having clocked a dark-haired boy approaching in front of her. Had he won too? How many of them were there? Standing patiently while the man looked over her invite, she gave a grateful smile as she was gestured in, taking slow, cautious steps, watching the boy in front of her carefully for a few moments before checking her options. Weren't there any, like...instructions? Okay, she wasn't going to lie, this wasn't very well organized. The only options she could see were two hallways, one going left, one going right. And Peyton Scott wasn't exactly the best at decision-making.
She heard footsteps, and noticed the raven-haired boy had chosen a direction. He headed right, and she found herself arguing for making the same decision. Right did sound like a prettier direction than left...and she'd have company. A smile on her face, Peyton's impressionable nature struck again as she hurriedly followed the boy before her, rushing down the right hallway, trying to catch up with him. A conversation might be nice, and the wide smile on her face was nothing but friendly.

Liliana thought it odd to find the piece of paper in her room on her dresser. She had noticed it immediately as it was not something she had put there and her room was always pristine. She'd wondered if it had come from her brother or maybe if it was a prank from her sister. Either way the ticket had proclaimed her a winner. She frowned when she seen the she apparently won something, when she had not entered anything, but the mystery prize had caught her attention. It made the ticket more exciting though the suspicion remained, she decided she would go.
On the day the ticket specified Liliana headed for the address on the ticket feeling a bit excited for the mystery. When she was coming upon the place whoever she frowned whole heartly. The place looked barely passable as anything more than a dump and Liliana was very worried what she might find inside. The temptation to leave was weighing heavily on her, when she noticed a familiar head of hair entering. 'Was that Peyton?'
The head of hair disappeared through the door and Liliana quickly followed. If it was Peyton, it was quite a little miracle that they had both won the contest and she now thought that it could be fun knowing there was a familiar face around. Showing her ticket she hurried in hoping to catch up with the girl.
When she walked in she stopped for a moment to take in the room. Bad wall paper, odd music, horrible lighting and two hallways. The right of which she noticed the familiar head of hair, she thought to be Peyton heading down. Liliana sighed feeling as though something not so good was going to happen and hoping she would not have to transform because of it. She hurried down the right hall.
"Peyton. Hey, Peyton is that you," she called softly.

What was up with all these invitations, lately? Alessa wasn’t very concerned by that. Instead, she simply believed she was on a roll. Her mother had found the leaflet in the David’s mail box, and almost threw it in the trash bin. It had really looked like garbage at first glance, until the girl managed to get her eyes on it and read more. It’s the intention that counts, after all! Plus, the reward is a surprise! It could only have been omitted intentionally! The student had very low standards. Very, very low standards. And she was bored.
Fortunately (?), by the time she reached the place, her standards were still pathetically low. And she saw people come in, so it couldn’t be that bad. Right? They had already disappeared before Alessa could identify them. The man at the entrance only grumbled something that may be a greeting before making her enter. Frankly, the inside was shoddy. Crappy. Badly-made. But most importantly, she saw the shadows of the first incomers going to the right. She decided to treat whatever this was as a sort of adventure. A cheesy adventure. Taking the right hall like everyone else, like a good little sheep, the girl with glasses trotted to reach the small group faster. “Hello?” Who knew, maybe there was someone she knew in there. She couldn’t possibly have been the only schoolkid invited.

Calintha had found the invitation slipped under her door. Which was strange, considering she lived above a store, where the door at the street worked on a buzzer and her only neighbor was the sweet old Chinese man who owned the store below. Upon further investigation, she realized that it was not some regular advertisement flier, but an invitation to something. A badly spelled, badly designed, cheap looking ticket to some weird event. After a few seconds Calintha realized it was to the same event that she had applied for a few weeks ago. Some event done by raffle drawing. It was pretty lucky, considering she'd never really won much in her lifetime. Maybe things were finally looking up?
Excited about what the whole Tanglewood thing was about, Calintha made her way to the strange building running a few minutes late, as usual. When she entered into the seedy looking store front, she presented her invitation. The bored looking man in the ????????????? chair simply grunted her through, without any explanation at all. "Strange... I wonder what I'm supposed to do?"
After looking around a bit, taking in dingy wallpaper and badly recorded 'nature' music, Calintha figured she had to make some kind of choice. The more she was here, the more uncomfortable she felt about everything. Since she hadn't really seen anyone else enter, Calintha veered towards the left hallway. Had she known the others had gone right, she would have certainly followed, but as for now she was on her own, traveling down a terribly lit forest hallway.

The Right Hallway -- Ladon, Peyton, Liliana, Alessa It's not only a direction, it's also the proper! You make a right-hand turn and walk down the hallway, feeling rather conf- BONK!Ow! It looks like the right hallway was an optical illusion, painted to make it look like another hallway, when in actuality it was a dead end. Turn around and take the left hallway. (Skip to 'The Left Hallway' below) Go back to the entrance and leave. What a dirty, cheap trick! The Left Hallway - Calintha & Co. Whoever designed this place wasn't satisfied with tacky wallpaper and half-burnt out light bulbs. The hallway itself was littered with strips of AstroTurf and plants, most likely stolen from an assortment of backyards in Destiny City. In all honesty, it's not interesting, and quite difficult to get lost. There are hints and indentations in the wall as to where another path should be, however when examined nothing happens. It's as if this place is half-finished! It isn't long until you come to a chamber. Or what could pass as one, really -- it was big enough to fit all five participants, as well as a poorly-lit table. The table itself was of no value, being amazingly sturdy with all for legs of equal length. What was interesting, however, was the sign above it: ARM YOURSELF HERO FOR WHEN LIGHTS OF THREE LIGHT UP GAME OVER, SUCKER.
Below the haiku-sign on the table were five items, arranged in a row. Ladon probably would have been the only one to be envious of the items -- they were weapons. Specifically, they were the sort of weapon that any Negaverse Lieutenant would have been proud to own. There was a bat of some sort, an axe, sword, a mace, and something flat -- this was nearly falling off the edge of the table. It wasn't until they were picked up that the secret to these weapons was revealed: they were made of foam. Partially, at least -- rubber (or something similar) coated the items, leaving them squishy to the touch yet free of that odd foam texture. Thankfully there was a weight to each item that hinted at either wooden or metal supports inside them. There are also three "baubles" on each weapon -- some sort of LED light adornment, perhaps? Because of her head start, Calintha arrives first and picks her weapon of choice. There is only one of each, so make your choice. If someone has something you want, don't be afraid to bargain or try to talk someone into trading! Also feel free to list out your preferences in OOC, just in case anyone wants to wait. Take the sword. Take the mace. Take the axe. Take the baseball bat. Take the mysterious flat object.

Peyton heard her name called, and turned to spot...who? The darkness made it difficult, and the girl didn't really think about where she was going as her head was turned, the situation not made any better by the fact that it wasn't even a hallway...
"Ow!" she yelped, walking straight into the wall painted to look like a hallway, scowling softly. Who did something like that!? That was...that was stupid! Feeling her cheeks flush pink in embarrassment, Peyton rubbed her sore cheek, a sheepish smile gracing her lips. Ohh, it was that...girl. The one from the animal shelter, the singing one. Peyton frowned a little - she'd been nice, but kinda...boring. And a little unrealistic. "Hey Jacobs," she mumbled with a small wave, completely forgetting the awkward moment that had been created last time she'd tried to call the girl by her last name. Looking around, she quickly realized that there were four of them - the boy she'd been following, herself, Liliana and another girl, who Peyton flashed a friendly smile at.
"So, uh...the left hallway, guys?" Peyton suggested, as always trying to avoid awkward silences, taking a few steps as if to lead the way, even though actually she hated leading. What if the people behind her like...left? Then she'd be on her own! "I'm Peyton, by the way...Peyton Scott." she offered, hoping to get names from the two strangers. She wasn't fond of introducing herself in such a way, but always introduced herself with her surname in the hopes that the other would do the same - it was how her habit had developed, and that was exactly what it was. A habit. And so Peyton turned, following her 'group' down the left hallway instead, hoping that a conversation might be started, rather than an awkward silence. Peyton hated awkward silences.
The hallway was filthy, with litter scattered all over the floor, and Peyton stepped carefully, not wanting to get anything gross over her shoes. As soon as they reached a chamber, she was surprised to find another girl - clearly she'd taken the left pathway to begin with, and saved herself the pain of walking into a wall. Smart. Offering a friendly smile once more, Peyton was glad she'd decided to come in the end - look at all these new friends she could end up making! Casting her eyes on the table before them, though, her smile soon faded a little.
Weapons? Why were there weapons!? Glancing around for an answer, she soon spotted the sign, mouthing the words silently as she read it over, forehead creasing in a frown soon after, eyes turning back to the weapons. Three lights - was that those LED things, attached to each weapon? ...So they had to stop them lighting up? ...Whoever organized this really needed to write better instructions. Reaching out, Peyton touched the closest weapon to her, surprised to find it wasn't cold like metal - it was actually somewhat warm, and applying a bit of pressure reassured her that the weapons weren't real - they were some type of rubber or something.
Allowing the girl who'd arrived first to pick - it was only polite, since she'd been smart enough to choose the correct path - Peyton reached out, picking up the baseball bat.

The hallway was disgusting. Calintha kept having to step over weird patches of Astroturf, and the walls were oddly dented, like something had knocked it around. Upon arriving at the room, she looked around and finally settled on the sign. At that point she heard the arrival of other people. Apparently, by the arrival of the rest of the invitees, Calintha had been correct in choosing her hallway. None of them she particularly recognized, but that was nothing different than normal. "Hey guys. I'm Calintha." She greeted the group of people who walked into her doorway before walking over to judge all of the weapons.
Her first choice was the sword, but she was deciding between that and whatever the flat object was. It seemed like it was calling to her, in its strange flat goodness. Ignoring her strange urge to pick up the unknown, she reached for the sword, preparing her body to pick up the heavy object.
She prepared it too much, when she lifted it the foam sword jerked up, nearly hitting her in the face. "What the hell... they are made of foam?" She examined the sword closely as she stepped away from the table. A foam sword with round little lights on them. How curious. "What do you guys think of this place? It's kind of strange, yea?"

He felt a bit of personal responsibility for leading a group of girls to a dead end. While he hadn’t known that they would be tricked like this, he felt bad for walking this way and finding out a small party was following him. It was just his luck that he didn’t smack into the wall, and instead hit his foot on it instead. Wincing and making sure not to swear (there were ladies present), he stumbled back. Out of the way, he didn’t have time to warn the others, watching one girl collide with the wall.
“It seems we took the wrong way.” He said, pointing out the obvious. He wondered if this place would be an adventure by being a maze, which he hoped not. He didn’t like mazes. All the twists and turns made him feel like he was a rat in an experiment. It was good that the other girl, who called herself Peyton Scott, decided to lead the group this time around, taking all responsibility if they ran into another wall. Following last, he let the girls talk amongst themselves. It seemed he had been the only boy to go get an invite or had bothered to show up, and he felt out of place among the group of girls. Still, he remained courteous and offered his own name in a soft “Ladon Shepard” when Peyton looked to all of them. She seemed to be a confident and social person, and he couldn’t recall seeing her in Meadowview. The other girls he think he might have seen.
Taking the left hallway, they stepped over bits of junk that he tried to avoid before arriving in a small room occupied by a cluttered table and another girl. Yup, he was the only guy here, and while most guys would be dancing at their luck, he stayed in the background before his eyes settled on the table. If there was one thing he had a new appreciation for, it was weapons. His jump rope had been a pain since he first got it, and seeing a sword, axe, even a bat, he felt better. Slinking past the girls, he met a girl named Calintha, and since she missed the introductions, he smiled to her. “I’m Ladon.” His eyes went to the weapons, but as he reached for the nicest one he could get his hands on, the secret was revealed that they weren’t real but made of some cushy material. Since the sword was taken, he picked up the axe, turning it about in his hands. If it had been the real thing, it would have been too bulky and heavy for him, but this one was easy to hold. “They probably don’t want a bunch of kids swinging around real weapons and get sued. I don’t think they could afford it.” He frowned, disappointed that he didn’t have a real weapon, but anything was better than a jump rope.

Lily stopped at the hearing an ow, before coming closer and seeing it was indeed Peyton in front of her. As well as a boy and she could swear she heard another set of footsteps bringing up the rear.
Peyton greeted Lily and instantly received a seething glare from the girl. Lily could not help but, to wonder if the girl had done it on purpose and before she had a chance to correct the girl she suggested they take the left hallway. Lily frowned shaking her head and think it served her right for following the girl, but was a glad at least that she hadn't walked into the wall like Peyton had.
Letting her death glare fall away she nodded at Peyton and turned to follow the girl out, but a a good distance because she was a bit irritated with the girl. At hearing the names being offer up, Peyton whom she knew and Ladon, who she thought she may have seen at school she offered her own name. "Liliana Jacobs," she said softly her first name coming through louder than her last.
She sighed as they turned down the left hallway and almost blanced at its state. Lily was disgusted and it showed her face. She quickly toed her away around the messy astro turf and plants wanting to get down the hallway as quickly as she could without knocking someone else over. She found herself silently hoping there would be no mud in this place.
She relaxed when they entered a chamber but only for a second. There was another girl there who seemed to be looking over the objects on the table in small room. "I'm Liliana," she said hearing the girl introduce herself.
She watched as choose her weapon as was proper having been the first one to arrive in the chamber and the only one to choose the left hallway. She almost laughed hearing the girls exclamation, "Foam really? Is it light," she asked finally reaching for one of the weapons. Sure enough it was made of a soft material that reminded her of memory foam, which would make the fake weapons easier to wield.
Lily looked over the remaining weapons unsure which to pick, but thinking to a mace was definitely not the weapon for her. She was very drawn to the flat weapon, even though she did not know what it was.

Just her luck. That was a little awkward for so many people to have tried going the wrong way. Again, she followed the rest of the crowd into the left hallway. “I’m Alessa David” replied the brunette, still cheerful. They were all people her age, and she’d have sworn she had at least seen a couple of them back at school, though she didn’t remember actually meeting them. “Hey, is any of you from Meadowview?” she asked.
Now, while the girl was a terrible judge of character overall, even she could see from the state of the chamber the organizers were complete lazy asses. But the disappointment didn’t last. C’mon, just because it was half-assed didn’t mean it wouldn’t be fun. Maybe they just lacked the time or budget to finish that crap. Typically sounds like a student thing. As everyone started picking up things (which, judging from their reaction, were harmless foam weapons), Alessa eyed the axe. She wasn’t a violent person, nor a weapon fanatic, but in such a kitschy setting, it would have been a shame not to pick the most over-the-top thing. So with a grin, her hand went towards the table; the other people still being busy around it, she wasn’t completely sure she manage to pick it, and she half-expected to stumble into something else instead. “We’ll probably have to do some fighting”, she commented, still grinning, and completely innocently, she added: “Perhaps we’ll even have to fight each other with these?”
Her hand stumbled upon a thick handle. Grabbing it, she realized it was a mace, and that all the other "weapons" were already in the others' hands. Ah well, a mace would do the trick, too.

It seemed as though everyone was eying the objects they wanted and that as Alessa had said they would probably have to fight.
Lily looked around feeling a bit nervous, "I hope we do not have to fight each other." She couldn't imagine having won something she didn't enter ... come to think of it.
"I have a question for you all. Did any of you enter to win a contest? My invitation had me name clearly printed on it, but I am certain I did not enter any sort of contest."
She looked around at the others listening for their answers before she turned back to the table and picked up the mysterious flat object wondering what it could be.

"Yes, I go to Meadowview too- a new transfer this semester." And she would leave her explanation at that. Calintha stepped off to the side as the other people chose their weapons. This was a strange contest that they were entering into.
The wall sliding open next to Calintha made her jump. It was unexpected, just as everything else in this strange adventure she was on. Since she had been the first to enter the room with the weapons, the girl decided to lead the way into the next strange room. "Well, doesn't this just get curiouser and curiouser." Alice in wonderland had always been a favorite book. The blonde girl pointed to the opened wall behind her, making sure that everybody had seen it.
Holding her sword out in front of her (and feeling ridiculous to do so), she took a few steps into the room. After the first few steps something white, and something moving fast hit her peripheral vision. Acting on the same instincts that allowed her to avoid the occasional gardening mishaps, she ducked and rolled to the side, attempting to dodge the object. "Holy crap!" She didn't know what it was, and Calintha certainly hoped she dodged it. As she tucked and rolled, she held up her foam sword, so at least if she got hit a small part of the impact might be blocked by her cheap sword.
