Name: Kayin Meaning: Celebrated child Mate: - Pride: Ashanai'leRank: Youth - First Blood - Tama Lord - Ligi Seer: ? Fertile: Yes Personality: Quiet and dutiful, he always puts forth his best effort no matter how small the task may be. He’s loyal, and hardworking, but also a little bit shy. Even the smallest role needs someone to fulfill it, and he’s more than willing to be that person. He acts as though he aims low, but works as though he’s trying to surpass even the greatest. Calm and accepting, he trusts his mother’s words, and strives to learn everything she wishes to teach them. He loves to learn, but derives little enjoyment from praise aside from the confirmation that he is doing well. Mostly, it just makes him self-conscious and uncomfortable, but he doesn’t like to argue with someone about whether or not he did well, it makes him feel like he’s asking for more praise. Theme Song - More Than It Seems/I Do Not Belong by Kutless. I didn't realize it was two songs. Acquired RP Contest Quote: MACADAMIA NUT “Shaken, not stirred”

Prompt Response:
It really wasn’t something special.
Kay felt his shoulder slump slightly as his mother showered him with praises again, feeling the eyes of his brothers upon himself. Again. It really made him feel a little…well. He was thrilled to be doing well. Make no mistake. He worked hard to be able to please Indira, to prove her attempts at teaching them successful. Besides, he wanted to learn, he loved finding himself able to employ the new skills with success.
But.
The cub glanced unhappily at his brothers. They had worked hard too. He wasn’t the only one who was doing well today. Nor was he the only one who’d done well yesterday. Or the day before… and now he was feeling even worse about it. Sure he’d done the technique properly, but only because he’d paid extra close attention and practiced it over and over again while the lioness they called mother was busy with one of his siblings. But… but she must not have seen that. She might not have noticed how hard it was for him to make his execution as good as it was, perhaps she only praised him because she thought it came naturally to him when in reality it didn’t. Perhaps…but if he said as much, surely it would only seem to be a ploy for attention.
So now Kayin didn’t know what to do. He wanted to do his best, he always did his best. Always worked his hardest, always sought to improve. But he didn’t do it for any glory or any notice. He did it to better himself. And he did it because it was what was asked of him. The cub wasn’t looking for praise or congratulations, he didn’t need it, didn’t want it. Sure, it was nice to know he had done well but…but…
…but it wasn’t fair to his brothers. They deserved to be praised. Probably even more than he did. Meekly, he watched as their mother put one of them through the paces, drilling him on the technique Kay had already managed to grasp. He needed to practice it too…but he didn’t want her to compare them again. Not like she had only a few moments before. The look his brother had given him…it hurt to know he’d upset his sibling so much. He hadn’t meant to do it at all. He was only doing his best. It was only what anyone else would do…right?
He didn’t want to give any less than his best, mother was a good teacher. She deserved to know her efforts were not futile. But… but Kay didn’t want to hurt his brothers either. Maybe…maybe he’d just do what he could, but he’d do it over here. Where mother could not see him so well, so she would not be able to see him so well. Then she would not compliment him, would not tell his brothers to do as he did. He hated to want to be less than his best… but… but it wasn’t fair for her to compare them. Everyone’s best was different, it wasn’t right to compare. But he didn’t want to contradict his mother…or continue to upset his brothers. He just didn’t know what to do…
Quietly, Kay slunk as far from his mother and brothers as he could without leaving her line of sight. Wouldn’t want to upset her by vanishing, she worried when she couldn’t see them. Worried that the Shatkona might hurt them. But Kay wanted to be out of sight, and out of mind. Wanted to just watch instead, so that he couldn’t do anything that would cause mother to make his brothers feel jealous. Because there was no reason to envy him, he was just like them. No better at all.
“I just try to be my best…” he murmured softly to himself, hoping that his idea would work. He didn’t want to have to choose between his brother’s feelings and being true to himself. Colorist Skye

One of Indira’s sons, he grew up knowing he was adopted and meant to help fulfil a prophecy of the Ashnai’le pride. He is loyal and devoted to her unconditionally, and spent his childhood training and working hard to prove she was not wasting her time with them. In this time he made one friend, an Atmaja cub named Kafele. The two saw one another infrequently, but are very close.
When he and his brothers reached adolescence, Indira instructed them to join the Ligi. Kayin does try, but he feels too guilty to make a good Ligi, and is at a loss as to what to do. His dread that Kafele would turn on him and hate him turned out to be misplaced, as Kafele had recently found out he was an heir of the Shatkona. He is currently assigned as Kafele’s bodyguard, and is much more comfortable in this position.
He is currently trying to do his mother’s will, and stick close to his brothers and friend. There is also a huntress, a lioness by the name of Iaeratu, with whom he is curiously infatuated but not certain as to how to react to this.
As a meta character, his plots are already semi-plotted. He is not looking for new ones.
