Kudha quietly padded through the pridelands, keeping his eyes open for the Ligi. As a Lord, it was his obligation to keep up with the matters of the pride...but on days like this, when the sun was blocked out by gloomy-looking clouds, he always hated patrolling the pride. His sister, Fila, lived for her night patrols, relishing the challenge and the danger. Though he was quite capable of defending himself should the Ligi choose to attack, he would rather not resort to violence. Ever the diplomat, Kudha would rather talk his way out of a fight than start one.

It just so happened that his stroll took him near Indira's dens. He usually avoided the Tama section of the pride, but he had rationalized the visit, with the reasoning that he should be semi-aware of the goings on of the whole pride, not just his Atmaja half. He had heard that she had a litter of cubs, but he had never seen them before. To be honest, he worried for them. He knew what the close association of Sahen did to cubs, his own niece and nephews were proof of that. He wondered if Sahen tried to manipulate Indira's cubs, too. But he couldn't bring himself to go nearer. He had no business there, after all, and Indira wasn't the type to put up with courtesy calls.

It was dark today.

The young lion rolled a stone between his paws, idle but wishing he were not. Lazy paws got no work done, and he so did not wish to disappoint his mother. He'd entertained thoughts of going to find his red friend again, missing the fun of playing with someone who was not one of his brothers. But he'd spotted one of the Ligi roaming around when he'd gotten almost halfway there and, knowing how Indira worried, had slunk off back home just in case.

But there was little to do here, and Kayin was at a bit of a loss. He'd already practiced most of that day, and his brothers were done with sparring with him. He didn't much feel like practicing more, he was vaugely tired, but there really wasn't much else to do...and he ought to make sure he had every bit of what Indira taught them down just right.

The rock skittered away as he batted it harder, his light eyes following it as it rolled...towards another lion. Oh, he hadn't meant to do that. Luckily the stone stopped before it struck the red-maned male's paw, but still, Kayin should have been paying closer attention.

"Pardon me, Sir," he called, already on his feet and inclining his head faintly. He'd learned that being polite was more than just a proper way of conducting himself, lions, even Ligi, who were not offended by him were less likely to be upset with him.

Kudha's eyes snapped up as he heard the rock rattle towards him. Another Ligi trick? No, he decided, his eyes scanning the area, just a cub. Was this one of Indira's? Surely not...he looked nothing like her. Save for the hint of Tama in his irises, this cub could be an Atmaja child. A little taken back, Kudha paused to collect his thoughts. "That's okay, child. You're lucky I'm not part of the Ligi, though, or there would be hell to pay. But you...you need not worry about grief from me." Kudha smiled. This young cub was about the same age as his own nephews. Kudha's heart softened like butter. What could he say? He loved cubs, always had. "Tell me, though, what you're doing outside on such a gloomy day?"

If this cub was one of Indira's, then he would be schooled in the art of fighting and defense. Kudha raised an eyebrow. Was it even possible that a cub so young could protect himself from someone as brutal as the Ligi? Fila thought so, Kudha knew. That was why his sister was training Amira's cubs. Kudha knew that Fila believed that one of them could be the Chosen One, the one to end Sahen's madness. But...to strip away a cub's innocence like that...Kudha couldn't imagine it.

Oh, good, a smile could hardly be a bad sign. Relieved, both at the male's expression and his words, Kayin padded down the faint incline to retrieve his rock. It wasn't much in the way of a plaything, and did nothing to make up for his lack of a playmate, but he still felt some strange desire to take it back, especially since he wasn't going to be in trouble for it.

"I'll try to be more careful," he agreed quietly, fully aware of the facts that the other was warning him about. He'd never been attacked by a Ligi before, but he'd seen some of those who'd crossed one. The knowledge that one creature could do such a thing to another made him feel sick. "I was...playing..." Kayin mumbled, fully aware that what he'd been doing was a very sorry excuse indeed for the term. "I don't mind clouds," Kay added, glancing up at the sky, "Rain makes the grass greener." It wasn't like storms were all bad, they might be a little scary but they also did some good too. And while he wasn't the sort who loved to run and play in rain and puddles, he had learned that it helped plants, which could hardly be a bad thing, right?

Kudha saw a dark expression flash over the cub's face. Even children knew of the horrors of the Ligi...though some, like his own niece, weren't convinced that Sahen was responsible for the chaos. He sighed. "I wish it didn't have to be that way, you know. Maybe someday the Ligi will be gone, and you won't have to worry about them." That was his fervent hope, anyway.

Kudha paused, pondering over the cub's words. "It's true. Rain does make the grass greener. So maybe it isn't so bad after all." He smiled at the cub, pleased that some of his innocence was in tact. "I'm Sikudhani, by the way. I don't believe we've met. I'm not usually in the Tama sector..."

Kayin's ears laid back slightly at the strange adult's words. He agreed, he hoped fervently that the Ligi would someday be gone. But discussing it so openly...it made him nervous. Wary. He didn't want to cause any kind of trouble for his family, Sahen being oblivious to their bloodline and intentions was horribly important. So while he agreed with the red maned male, he didn't say anything. Not a word.

"My name is Kay," he replied, introductions were polite and generally a very simple topic of conversation. Nothing dangerous in sharing names after all. "It's nice to meet you See...kud...hany..." the cub tried, frowning slightly. It was an awfully long name, he didn't mean to mess it up. It was just...a little hard to say was all.

Kudha noticed the cub's discomfort. He understood. He could be brazen because he could defend himself against a Ligi attack...and because he had his family to back him up. Though perhaps he should watch his tongue in the future...he was nothing if he wasn't a diplomat, and he didn't want any trouble for Amira and her cubs because of something he said.

He laughed when Kay had trouble saying his name. "It is hard to say, isn't it? Can you imagine me stumbling over it as a cub?" He snorted with laughter at the memories. "Call me Kudha," he said with a smile. "It's much easier to pronounce. It's good to meet you, Kay."

Kay nodded when the lion said it was hard to say his name, a shy little smile flitting at his features as the other laughed. It wasn't so scary meeting a strange adult. At least one who was not a Ligi. Sik...Kudha was...nice.

"Then it's nice to meet you Kudha," the young lion said instead, his tail flicking to curl around his paws. "And I'm sorry about the rock..." he added again, though he was pretty sure the stone hadn't actually hit the other. He was glad that he hadn't upset the lion, Kudha certainly seemed like the sort of person he wouldn't mind spending time with...except he was a little bit big was all...
