He had failed to reach the end the first time, perhaps due to negligence. He would not fail again. But perhaps he was a little too eager, again.

Recollecting himself, he remembered to wind up the contraption, with just the right force, and was headed off the edge without plummeting down.

Fear rolled through him again as he began to doubt. Had he wound it up enough? Would it make it to the island? What if it ended up being buffeted too much by the win just like last time, and ended up crashing into the side of the island.
His grip on the glider tightened, not daring to look down.

And then there was a voice, a whisper, reassuring him. With a deep breath, he steadied himself, pushing his doubt aside as he prepared to steady the glider from the upcoming winds. He could do this. He knew he could.

And then a sudden gust of wind lifted up the glider, making him freeze, but rather than send him into the sides, it was enough that he hovered above the islands, at which he pressed all his body weight down, making it descend faster, not daring to mis-shoot and let it fly over the edge.
With that, he got off, breathing a sigh of relief.
The view from here, as well as the blessing, was what made this all worth it.
