"You can check on him if you'd like, he's right downstairs," Ophiuchus whispered right above her ear. "But that won't be far away enough from here for you."
He was wary, so wary. He didn't really care that Lin moved close to him. Of course she would, she would naturally be attractive to the strongest source of light magic right now, which would be himself. There was nothing else between the two of them. But Ophiuchus was still wary - not of Lin, but for her. She was the innocent one here.

Lin actually winced in pain and weakness. The darkness was draining her so badly. The fact that she had lasted this long was astounding. She was so damn stubborn.
"No... it is not. The darkness, I am sure, is very heavy down there as well. That... man..."
She looked in the direction of Riser. "He is very dark."

"Congratulations for noticing," he responded bitterly. "I found that out eons ago. Now, we will kindly obey the Headmaster's father and scram, because you're in no condition to be anywhere remotely near here at all. Plus you left your potions on the counter." He chose the fastest method of travel, and instantly transported them both to the pocket dimension that was Ophiuchus's lab, and Lin's new favorite classroom.
"Far away enough?"

Lin immediately gripped her professor's thick upper arms to steady herself when they landed in his potions lab. She had already been dizzy, and then teleporting had about done her in. She felt like she was going to fall over now.

"Alright, I take it you REALLY don't like dark magic..." Ophiuchus sighed, and picked up Lin in his arms. He casually snagged the leg of a low patient's cot (although Ophi mostly used it as his own bed) and pulled it out from the wall.
He set Lin down on the cot, and stepped away. "You are a stubborn elf, you know that?" He had crossed his arms and was looking down at her with his piercing green eyes.

Lin barely noticed what her professor was doing until she found herself sitting on something somewhat soft. She nodded her thanks, even though even that hurt her head.
"It is this way with all of us elves. If we are exposed to too much dark magic for a long period of time, we can even die. We are composed of only strong white magic. What is potent to white magic? Dark magic, and vice versa."
She tried to smile up at her professor and laugh, but it just hurt her head and she put her hand on her head.
"And how am I a 'stubborn elf', Professor?"

He couldn't help but to raise an eyebrow. "... You're giving me a lecture?"
Ophiuchus sat down next to Lin. He scowled jokingly, and poked her forehead. All her headaches would go away. "You're stubborn, because I've met adult male warrior elves that wouldn't have gone near a god like Riser, and yet you stood in the same room as him for at least five minutes. That's how you're stubborn."

Lin laughed softly when her professor said the statement about the lecture. It was somewhat odd that she was lecturing him. A god who had been alive for 2,500 years.
All humor went out of her, though, when her professor touched her head and her headache went completely away, instantly. It was amazing!
She turned her head to look up at her professor with wide grateful eyes. "Professor, Akakios! Thank you! My headache is completely gone! That was incredible!"
She was going to look away, but his bright green eyes kept her eyes on him. They were like hard emerald stones that shined brilliantly.
"I.... I did not know you had such bright green eyes, Professor."

He sighed. "That's not incredible, it's just... never mind." No matter what, anything he did would probably be considered 'incredible' by Lin.
"You never noticed? I guess not, since your head is always in a book instead of on other people, which is not a bad thing, by the way. So, you've never seen me get irritated with a student. My eyes glow just like yours."

Lin's eyes widened in shock. "You have noticed that my eyes glow when I am angry or really happy?!"
She felt an electric shock go through her body at just the idea that her professor had paid such close attention to her.

"Yes, I've noticed." He didn't feel like pointing out that she by far not the first elf he had met, or that glowing-eye-syndrome was a common occurrence in many races. Or that her eyes were starting to glow right now. "I think they might have changed color once as well."

Lin laughed softly. "I did not know that they could change colors."
And then she realized she was staring. Staring at her professor, into his eyes. As soon as she realized this, her cheeks blushed a light pink and she looked down at her lap in embarrassment.
"Ah... Well, Professor, I want to thank you for removing me from that situation, sir. I had to make sure that I administered the potion to the right person. He was the last person I had left. I saw Professor Wolfe on my way to the building you were in and gave her her potion. Kai was my last stop, thank goodness."
She lifted her head and looked back up at her professor but looked at his forehead this time. "Thank you for helping me to leave as soon as I had done that, sir."

Ophiuchus feigned astonishment. "Why, I HAD too! It was that, or be punished by hours of lowly degrading paperwork conjured the Headmaster! He'd do that too, just to annoy me!"
He didn't seem bothered by the way Lin was looking at him. "Now, seriously. Your headache might be gone, but a nap has magic in it that I can never hope to duplicate.'

Lin laughed and shook her head. "No no, sir. I do not nap. I never have and never will. Sleep for us elves is, as I am sure you have researched, simply to relax and possibly receive visions that we might need."
She then looked down at her lap again and shrugged. "Besides, a nap would take away from any time that might be spent learning more about herbs and potions, sir."
She then cocked her head to the side as she remembered something. "Although, you did say, sir, that this place has no time."
She gasped and a smile slowly appeared on her face as she realized something. "And that means that I can still go to the funeral for Ambrose when I am feeling stronger because I can go right back to the time before the funeral, no matter how long we spend here!"
She turned her head and beamed at her professor in excitement. "I will be able to be there for him after all."

Ophi nodded slowly. "Yes, you can do that tonight." But not all the time, he would to explain that to her soon. Time travel has its price and although Ophiuchus was a god... He was also being forced to work at a fraction of his real power. "And how long do you intend to spend here? You may not need to nap, but I certainly enjoy them."
The lit incense always kept the lab warm (being cold-blooded was such a awful hassle sometimes), so Ophiuchus stood up and took off his coat. "But tonight, the focus is certainly not on me. What did you have in mind, Lin?"
